The nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is a medical condition characterized by fat accumulated in the liver tissue other than excessive consumption of alcohol.

Therefore, people with high body mass index and high levels of total cholesterol levels are susceptible to increased risk of the diseases.

Taken together, intake of herbal Anise with abundant bioactive chemical constituents and a change of diet pattern rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables may have a higher potential in the cure of nonalcoholic liver disease,

However, further data collection on larger samples and multi-center clinical studies performed with human consumption during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of its anti-nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) possibilities.

In finding natural compounds in cancer therapy, researchers at the United Arab Emirates University conducted an experiment to test the underlying mechanism and molecular targets of manuka honey (MH) on proliferation, invasiveness, and angiogenic potential were investigated using two human breast cancer cell lines, the triple-negative MDA-MB-231 cells and estrogen receptor-positive MCF-7 cells, and the non-neoplastic breast epithelial MCF-10A cell line.

Infection of MH at concentrations of 0.3-1.25% (w/v) induced a dose-dependent inhibition of the proliferation of MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7, but not MCF-10A, cells.

At higher concentrations (>2.5%), MH was found to be generally deleterious to the growth of all three cell lines.

MH induced apoptosis of MDA-MB-231 cells through the activation of proteins associated with cell death programming and cancer cells apoptosis correlated with a loss of proteins associated with cancer cell proliferation.
Furthermore, low concentrations of MH (0.03-1.25% w/v) induced a rapid reduction in tyrosine-phosphorylated STAT3 (pY-STAT3) involved in cell growth and division in MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells.

The maximum inhibition of pY-STAT3 was observed at 1 h with a loss of >80% and coincided with decreased interleukin-6 (IL-6) production.

These results suggested manuka honey (MH) inhibits breast cancer cell lines through many different mechanisms.

A total of 50 nulliparous female Sprague-Dawley rats were grouped as follows: Group 0 (healthy normal rats control), Group 1 (negative control; untreated rats), Groups 2, 3, and 4 received daily doses of 0.2, 1.0, and 2.0 g/kg body weight of TH, respectively. The rats in groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 were induced with 80 mg/kg of 1-methyl-1-nitrosourea (MNU) to examine the effects of Tualang honey (TH) against breast cancer.

The TH-treated rats showed a reduction of tumor progression (mean 75.3 days versus 51.5 days) compared to control.


The incidence (mean 76.6% versus 100%); the multiplicity (mean 2.5 versus 4 tumor masses per rat); the size of tumor mass (mean 0.41 cm versus 1.47 cm [p < 0.05]) and the weight of the tumor mass (mean 1.22 g versus 3.23 g; [p < 0.05]) also lower in the TH treated rats compared to control.

The grade of breast cancer is lower (I and II) compared to control (Grade III),

The efficacy of TH treatment in reducing the expression of breast cancer was attributed to the lower anti-apoptotic proteins (E2, ESR1, and Bcl-xL) expression and a higher pro-apoptotic proteins (Apaf-1 and Caspase-9) expression at serum and on the cancer tissue level.

The breast cancer size breast in the TH-treated groups was smaller mean tumor size (≤ 2 cm3) compared to Controls (≤ 8 cm3). The number of cancers developing in TH-treated groups was also significantly lower.

More importantly, an increasing trend of the apoptotic index (AI) was found in TH-treated groups with an increasing dosage of Tualang Honey compared to control.

Taken together, adding a portion of honey into a women's diet may have a potential effect in reducing the risk of breast cancer.

And honey may be considered an adjunct therapy combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of breast cancer.

#Herbal #Andrographis Inhibits the Risk of #HeartDisease Through its Antioxidant Activities, Researcher Say

Herbal Andrographis may process certain bioactive compounds for the prevention and treatment of heart diseases, some scientists suggested.
Heart disease is the medical condition associated with the blood vessels, including coronary artery disease, heart rhythm, and a heart defect caused by the accumulation of plaques.

Plaque made up of cholesterol, fatty molecules, and minerals accumulated in the arteries can cause stiffening and hardening of the arterial wall and narrowing of the arteries, affecting the transportation of oxygen risk blood to the heart.

These result suggested that people who follow the Western diet high in saturated and trans fat, red med meat and processed foods and over the use of calcium supplement are associated with the increased risk plaque building up.


Long-term building-up plaques can cause substantial damage to the arterial wall, facilitating the onset of heart disease.

According to statistics, heart disease kills more than 2,000 Americans every day and approximately 60 million Americans have heart disease.


The exact causes of heart disease are debatable. Researchers do not why people who over a few decades of following the Western diet, only some are susceptible to heart disease while many do not, even they have the same health conditions.

Andrographis paniculata is also known as Andrographis is a herbaceous plant, genus Andrographis, belonging to the family Acanthaceae, native to India and Sri Lanka.

The plant has been used in traditional Siddha and Ayurvedic in treating the common cold, flu, upper respiratory infections, infectious diseases, diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, pneumonia, swollen lymph nodes, leprosy, bronchitis, sore throats, tuberculosis, chicken pox, etc.

In the concern of ischemia-reperfusion (I-R) injury in the increase of the complication of myocardial infarction (MI), researchers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences conducted a study with an aim to find a natural ingredient or whole herb which processes a cardioprotective effect.

In the rat model, hydroalcoholic extract of Andrographis paniculata was evaluated against the left anterior descending coronary artery (LADCA) ligation-induced I-R injury of the myocardium.

Selected MI rats were induced by LADCA ligation for 45 min followed by reperfusion for 60 min and divided into five experimental groups viz., sham (saline-treated, but LADCA was not ligated), I-R control (saline-treated + I-R), benazepril (30 mg/kg + I-R), A. paniculata (200 mg/kg per se) and A. paniculata (200 mg/kg + I-R).

* In the I-R control group, LADCA ligation showed a significant cardiac dysfunction evidenced by reduced hemodynamic parameters; mean arterial pressure (MAP), and heart rate (HR).

* The I-R control without treatment of the herbal extract expressed a decline of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and glutathione (GSH) but enhanced lipid peroxidation product, malondialdehyde (MDA), a marker of oxidative stress.

After 30 days of 200 mg/kg A. paniculata administered orally, the treated group showed favorable improvement in hemodynamic and left ventricular contractile function, restoration of the myocardial antioxidants, and prevention of depletion of myocytes injury marker enzymes along with inhibition of lipid peroxidation.

The results indicated that 200 mg/kg A. paniculata demonstrated a significant cardioprotective activity by inhibiting the adverse effect caused by LADCA in the rat model.

Dr. Ojha SK, the lead author said. "The cardioprotective effects of A. paniculata were found comparable to that of benazepril treatment".

Additionally, in reaffirming the cardioprotective effect of herbal Andrographis, researchers launched an investigation to examine the watery extract of Andrographis paniculata Nees (APN) activity after one hour of the development of myocardial infarction by the formation of a thrombus.

13 dogs were included in the study with 6 of the was served as a control group.

The Andrographis treatment group showed clinically significant efficacy in the improvement of the myocardial structure surrounding the initially appearing ischemic area.

Furthermore, in the differentiation of the effect of low-caffeine green tea consumption on the risk of sleep quality on middle-aged individuals (n = 20, mean age 51.3 ± 6.7 years) in a double-blind crossover design, with standard green tea (SGT) used as the control and low caffeine green tea teas (≥300 mL/day), which were eluted with room temperature water, were consumed over a period of seven days after a single washout term, researchers indicated that
* The level of salivary α-amylase activity (sAA), a stress marker, was significantly lower in participants that consumed LCGT (64.7 U/mL) than in those that consumed SGT (73.9 U/mL).
* Sleep quality was higher in participants that consumed a larger quantity of LCGT.
* In addition, a self-diagnostic check for accumulated fatigue was significantly lower in those participants that consumed LCGT than SGT.
Dr. Unno K, the lead author of the final report said, " LCGT intake can reduce stress in middle-aged individuals and improve their quality of sleep. The reduction in caffeine is suggested to be a valid reason for enhancing the anti-stress effect of green tea".

Taken together, it is safe to suggest that moderate consumption of low-caffeine green tea may have a profound effect in improving sleep quality by reducing the levels of stress.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belongings to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan.

Aloe vera has been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of diseases, including wounds, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol,...

It is also one of many popular herb studied in scientific ways with some conflicted results.

The Ingredients
The ten main areas of chemical constituents of Aloe vera include: amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, lignins, monosaccharide, polysaccharides, salicylic acid, saponins, and sterols.

1. Diabetes

Diabetes is defined as a condition caused by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose. It is either caused by cells in the pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol. In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.

Many herbs have been proven in studies to be effective in treating type II diabetes, including Aloe vera.

2. Ance vulgaris

Aloe-Emodi, a chemical compound found in Aloe vera, specifically suppresses breast cancer cell proliferation by targeting ER α protein stability through distinct mechanisms and may be used as a possible application of anthraquinones in preventing or treating breast cancer in the future.

Also in other studies, Aloe-Emodi is considered as a potential value for the treatment of gastric cancer and cervical cancer because its mechanisms are by means of cell cycle interruption and induce differentiation and suppressed the expression of PKCalpha and c-myc.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is defined as an endocrinologic disease caused by undeveloped follicles clumping on the ovaries that interfere with the function of the normal ovaries resulting in enlarged ovaries, leading hormone imbalance( excessive androgen), resulting in male pattern hair development, acne, irregular period or absence of period, weight gain and affecting fertility. It affects over 5% of the women population or 1 in 20 women. According to the study by Desai BN, Maharjan RH, and Nampoothiri LP. almost 70% of PCOS women have abnormal serum lipid levels (dyslipidemia) and 50% of these women are obese. Several classes of pharmacological agents have been used to manage dyslipidemia. However, studies have shown adverse effects associated with these drugs.

Aloe Vera may be a potential herb in treating Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome by enhancing the reductions of plasma triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, with an increase in HDL cholesterol, or by restoring the ovarian steroid status.

According to the study of PCOS induced in Charles Foster female rats by oral administration of non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor letrozole (0.5 mg/kg body weight, 21 days), AVG-treated PCOS rats exhibited a significant reduction in plasma triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, with an increase in HDL cholesterol.

The gel treatment also caused a reversion of abnormal estrous cyclicity, glucose intolerance, and lipid metabolizing enzyme activities, bringing them to normal. Another study also indicated that Aloe vera gel formulation exerts a protective effect against the PCOS phenotype by restoring the ovarian steroid status and altering key steroidogenic activity.

This can be attributed to phyto-components present in the extract.

Dr.Pérez YY and the research team in the study of the Effect of a polyphenol-rich extract from Aloe vera gel on experimentally induced insulin resistance in mice also indicated that decreasing significantly both body weight (p < 0.008) and blood glucose levels of Aloe, calculated using the homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) formula by the polyphenol-rich extract from Aloe vera.

Also in the confirmation of the above result, the study of Aloe vera leaves on blood glucose levels in type I and type II diabetic rat models, vera leaf pulp extract showed hypoglycaemic activity on IDDM and NIDDM rats, the effect being enhanced for type II diabetes in comparison with glibenclamide. It may therefore be concluded that the pulps of Aloe vera leaves devoid of the gel could be useful in the treatment of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. 6. Gingivitis
Gingivitis is defined as a condition of Inflammation of Gum Diseases.

In the comparison of the effectiveness of a mixture of Aloe vera (AV) and Matricaria recutita (German chamomile, GC) in treating Irritable bowel syndrome, GC inhibited only small bowel transit while the AV/GC mixture delayed gastric emptying at the doses of 150 and 300 mg/kg.

The AV/GC mixture also reduced colonic transit and small bowel transit at the dose of 150 mg/kg. In other randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trials to test the effects of aloe vera for irritable bowel syndrome, there was no evidence that AV benefits patients with IBS and is superior to placebo in improving quality of life proven Irritable Bowel Syndrome patients, but in 49 completed the protocol to 1 month and 41 to 3 months.


Eleven of thirty-one (35%) AV patients, and 6 of 27 (22%) placebo patients responded at 1 month (p = 0.763). Diarrhoea predominant patients showed a trend towards a response to treatment at 1 month (10/23 V 2/14, p = 0.07).

9. Skin diseases

Skin disease is defined as a condition of skin damage and is classified according to each pathogenic cause of diseases.

In a systematic review of Aloe vera's clinical effectiveness, topical application of Aloe vera is not an effective preventative for radiation-induced skin injuries but might be effective for genital herpes and psoriasis.
