Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reducing age spots caused by overexpression of melanin, some scientists suggested.
People with a light complexion and lots of sun exposure over the years are found to associate with higher prevalent risk.
The results of this investigation were carried out by some worldwide institutes, including the Chongqing Institute of Forensic Science.
You can view the publication through some online medical literature if you want to know more about these subjects.
Age spot is the overexpression of skin pigment on the surface of the skin, probably caused by Skin aging, sun exposure, or other forms of ultraviolet (UV) light exposure,...
Age spots may also be caused by the hormone imbalance in the induction of increased production of melanin, which is responsible for darkening the skin.
Green tea is a precious drink that processed a number of health benefits and is known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
In the investigation of Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), used as a constituent of cosmetic products, researchers found that the application of EGCG exerts a significant effect as an antioxidant in exhibited anti-pigmentation properties.
Through measuring hyaluronic acid synthase (HAS) and hyaluronidase (HYAL) gene expression, EGCG also promoted skin hydration, through increased the expression of a natural moisturizing factor-related gene, including Hyaluronan synthase (HAS)-1, and (HAS)-2.
HA synthase enzymes (HAS) are molecules with the function of synthesized hyaluronan (HA) plays an essential role in protected skin fibroblasts against apoptosis, due to environmental stress exposure.
Hyaluronidase ((HYAL) is an enzyme that cleaves HA.
In UVB irradiation conditions, the application of EGCG protected the expression of the decreased level of HYAL found in all tissues with 50% present in the skin, thus reducing HaCaT cells in the formation of free radicals and decreased cell viability.
Melanin is produced in melanocytes, underexposure UVB irradiation with an aim to protect skin cells against UVB radiation damage.
Years of frequent and prolonged sun exposure and overexpression of melanin may induce aging spot
In other words, EGCG not only exhibited a strong effect in reduced over secretion of melanin but also enhanced cells integrity against forming of aging spots due to exposure UVB irradiation
HaCaT widely used in scientific research of the epidermis, is a spontaneously immortalized human keratinocyte cell line isolated from adult human skin.
Dr. Kim E, the lead author said, "EGCG might be used as a cosmetic ingredient with positive effects on skin hydration, moisture retention, and wrinkle formation, in addition to radical scavenging activity and reduction of melanin generation".
Furthermore, in confirmation of green tea efficacy in reduced overexpression of skin pigment by evaluating the fatty acids contents in the green tea oil, researchers indicated that all 3 major fatty acids isolated from oil were oleic acid (87.93±0.19%), stearic (5.14±0.06%) and palmitic (5.08±0.12%) acids.
A single application of each fatty acid demonstrated a strong protection of the cell viabilities through their antioxidant activity.
Moreover, the antioxidant activity of 3% tea seed oil exerted a greater cellular protection with cell viability of 90.38±7.77% compared to other concentrations.
Some researchers suggested that green tea polyphenols and theophylline as polyphenol nanoparticles (PNs) may reduce skin aging through the nanoparticle formation process involving copolymerization of monomers through exhibiting its free radicals scavenging activities.
Taking all together, green tea and its bioactive compound such as EGCG may be used as a natural and functional food for reduced overexpression of melanin and skin pigment in the induction of age spots.

#Fennel Inhibits the Delayed-Type Hypersensitivity and Pathogenic Infection through Immunosuppressive Properties, ASccording to Studies
Kyle J. Norton
Including a portion of fennel in your daily diet may improve the body's anti-allergic activities, some scientists suggested.
The results of the differentiation were carried out by a number of universities and published in online medical literature.
The allergic effect associated with nonharmful allergens caused by an overreaction of the immune system may induce symptoms of skin rash, and sneezing,.
In some cases, an allergic reaction can be life-threatening (anaphylaxis), depending on the severity of immune responses.
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of the genus, belongings to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean, used in traditional and herbal medicine as a warming, carminative, antispasmodic, antidepressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve PMS,...
In the study to confirm the potential efficacy of fennel for antiallergic use, inhibitory actions of the fruition 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) and β-hexosaminidase release, researchers found that application of fennel extract at ethanol 70% with IC50 of 3.2 μg/ml, exerts a potential effect in inhibited 5-LOX-catalyzed leukotriene production in the mediation of allergy, and other immune responses.
β-hexosaminidase released from activated mast cells is responsible for the allergic inflammatory reactions associated with immune response.
5-Lipoxygenase (5-LOX), an enzyme plays important roles in infection and allergic responses.
Although many ingredients isolated from fennel fruit demonstrated an inhibitory effect in the reduced immune overreaction of the unharmful allergens, phenylpropanoid, and trans-anethole, showed the considerable inhibitory action of 5-LOX compared to others, particularly at IC50 of 51.6 μM of trans-anethole
However, the fennel bioactive compound trans-anethole displayed an insignificant effect on the degranulation reaction of β-hexosaminidase release from antigen-treated RBL-2H3 cells compared to other ingredients.
The RBL-2H3 cell line is a commonly used histamine-releasing cell line in immunological research. inflammatory and allergic activities.
These results suggested, depending on the stimulation of allergens, fennel demonstrated anti-allergic activity through the expression of different constituents in both the plant (FR) and trans-anethole alone.
Dr. the lead author after taking into account other co-founders, said, "FR and several major constituents are 5-LOX inhibitors and they may have the potential for treating 5-LOX-related disorders".
Additionally, according to the study of Yonsei University, oral administration (200 mg/kg) of Foeniculum vulgare fruit methanolic extract in a tested animal model exhibited inhibitory effects against acute and subacute inflammatory diseases and type IV allergic reactions, a delayed-type hypersensitivity usually takes a few days to develop.
Further analysis suggested that the application of fennel also reduced inflammatory factors activated by
the immune response in the induction of systemic inflammation against allergens in causing damage to the body through its antioxidants and stimulated productions of antioxidant enzymes from the host, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase and the high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol level. in the prevention of lipid peroxidation in initiated by ROS.
Moreover, the application also reduced levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), which is an indication and marker of oxidative stress.
Interestingly, F. vulgare fruit methanolic extract expressed a strong effect in the inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) produced by the innate immune system through activated macrophages in inhibited pathogens replication.
The above differentiation was supported by the literature of "Foeniculum vulgare Mill: A Review of Its Botany, Phytochemistry, Pharmacology, Contemporary Application, and Toxicology"
posted in BioMed Research International.
According to the study, oral injection of the methanolic extract of F. vulgare fruit at 200 mg/kg once a day for 7 days showed a significant inhibitory effect on DNFB- (2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene-) induced delayed-type hypersensitivity through fennel immunosuppressive properties.
2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB) may induce allergic contact dermatitis.
The information collected indicated that fennel, its bioactive compounds, and extracts may be considered as a functional food for reduced risk immune over the response to unharmful allergens.

#Herbal #Anise Inhibits Parameters Associated with the Onset of #NonalcoholicFattyLiverDisease #NAFLD in Vivos, Studies Show
Kyle J. Norton
Intake of herbal Anise together with the change of diet pattern may have a potential and substantial effect in the cure of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
The nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is a medical condition characterized by fat accumulated in the liver tissue other than excessive consumption of alcohol.
According to the American liver foundation, Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease is one of the most common causes of liver disease and approximately 30% (100 million) individuals in the United States are estimated to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
The causes of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease are unknown. Also, as of today, researchers do not understand why some people are susceptible to liver fat accumulation while others are not.
However, some researchers suggested that combined health problems such as overweight and obesity, insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia may all contribute to the onset of the diseases.
Prolonged and untreated Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease may induce complications of cirrhosis, a disease characterized by late-stage of fibrosis in the liver, and untreated cirrhosis can lead to life-threatening diseases, such as coma, liver failure, or death.
The Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Science examines the results of selected studies including 33 full texts and 7 articles suggesting that
*Intakes of red meat, fats, and sweets are associated with an elevated risk of NAFLD, and consumption of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables is associated with a reduced risk of NAFLD.
* There is a highly positive association between the Western dietary pattern and the risk of NAFLD.
The university experiment also found that adherence to the Mediterranean diet was significantly associated with the attenuated severity of hepatic steatosis through improving insulin sensitivity in an insulin-resistant population with NAFLD,
Anise is a flowering plant of the species of Pimpinella anisum, genus Pimpinella, belongings to the family Apiaceae native to Egypt and the Mediterranean region, used in traditional herbal medicine as a fragrance in soaps, oils, and mouth fresheners and stomachic, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic,...
Chemical constituents
Anethole, D-pinene, I-phellandrene, Alpha-terpineol, Safrol, Methyl chavicol, Resin, Shikimic acid, etc.
In the comparison the effect of anise fruit essential oil and extract and the risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, the Islamic Azad University conducted an experiment of 60 rats randomly divided into ten groups, six in each group with NAFLD induced by using a choline-deficient diet for 90 days and followed by 30 days of treatment with 25, 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg/day of hydroethanolic extract (AE) as well as 0.125, 0.25, and 0.5 mg/kg/day of essential oil (AO)
During the course and the end of the experiment, researchers showed that both applications exert significantly reverse activities in
* Increased plasma levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, and triacylglycerol and
* Decreased high-density lipoprotein level caused by a choline-deficient diet in a dose-dependent manner.
Additional differentiation also found that AE and AO reduced the elevated levels of enzymes aspartate transaminase (AST) and alanine transaminase (ALT) which are considered as indications of either liver injury or damage caused by the acute inflammation in the experiential subject model.
However, patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease may have normal transaminase levels.
Levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) are usually used as a maker to detect liver damage.
Serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) are the best predictor of NAFLD after considering other clinical and biochemical features.
Observation of injection of anise AE and AO also exerted a powerful antioxidant activity in significantly lower overexpression of ROS in the exhibited free radical chain reaction in the induction of oxidative stress to precipitate liver toxicity.
According to the St. Louis University Health Sciences Center, overexpression of free radicals in the liver can damage cellular macromolecules in the induction of hepatocellular injury.
Also, in histological findings, both AE and AO displayed a substantial effect in reduced macrovesicular steatohepatitis which is the leading cause of liver cancer.
Further analysis of the experiment, researchers found that both anise AE and AO demonstrated a strong effect in ameliorated lipid peroxidation induced by oxidative stress indicated by elevation of plasma level of 8-isoprostane which is correlated to the prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Elevated 8-Isoprostane values activated by lipid peroxidation induced by injection of a choline-deficient diet were also considered biomarkers in patients with nonalcoholic liver disease and correlated with body mass index and total cholesterol in NAFLD but did not significantly relate to sex, age, biochemical data or iron metabolism markers in all liver diseases.
Therefore, people with high body mass index and high levels of total cholesterol levels are susceptible to increased risk of the diseases.
Taken together, intake of herbal Anise with abundant bioactive chemical constituents and a change of diet pattern rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables may have a higher potential in the cure of nonalcoholic liver disease,
However, further data collection on larger samples and multi-center clinical studies performed with human consumption during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of its anti-nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) possibilities.
Intake of Anise extract should only be prescribed by related field specialists in the prevention of acute liver toxicity.

#ManukaHoney (MH) and #TualangHoney (TH) Process Anti Proliferation, Invasiveness, and Angiogenic Activities Against the Onset of #BreastCancer, Scientists Find
Kyle J. Norton
Scientists may have found a sweet whole food that processes a strong effect in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer, according to some studies.
Breast cancer is a medical condition characterized by cell growth irregularly and disorderly in the breast tissue.
Most cases of breast cancer start in the cell on the surface of the inner lining of the breast tissue before spreading into deeper layers of the breast.
In the early stage, most patients with breast cancer may experience lumps on the breast or surrounding the breast.
However, breast skin irritation or dimpling, nipple pain, nipple retraction (turning inward), redness, and scaliness that cannot be healed within 3 weeks are also the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
At the later stage, after colonizing most part of the breast, the breast cancer cell may travel a distance far the way to infect other healthy cells and tissue.
In Canada, according to the statistic, 11% of women will develop breast cancer by the time they reach 90 years of age.
Just about 20% of breast cancers in Canada are diagnosed in women under 50, while almost 30% are diagnosed in women over 70 years of age.
These results suggested that the most common risk factor to fuel the onset of breast cancer is the increase in age.
In the concern of the increasing number of studies indicates that the strength and even direction of the association between breast cancer and established risk factors differ according to the woman's age when she develops the disease, Dr. Tryggvadóttir L, the lead scientist. according to the result of the study of a cohort of 80.219 women attending population-based cervical and breast cancer screening in Iceland, 1120 cases were identified, aged 26-90 years at diagnosis, and 10,537 controls, individually matched to the cases on birth year and age when attending wrote at the final report, "age at diagnosis should be taken into account when studying the effects of breast cancer risk factors".
Sadly to let you know that 60% of women who carry the genetic mutation of gene BRCA1 and 2 have breast cancer developed before the age of 70.
Other risk factors associated with the onset of breast cancer are reproductive history having a dense breast, personal and family history, previous intake of drug diethylstilbestrol (DES), previous radiotherapy.
Regardless of all risk factors, women breast self-examinations are still the most important methods to have breast cancer diagnosed early and increase the years of survival.
According to worldwide statistics, the 5 survival rate of the early stage of breast cancer is 100%.
Honey is a miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.
The rich golden liquid is considered one of healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener by many people.
In finding natural compounds in cancer therapy, researchers at the United Arab Emirates University conducted an experiment to test the underlying mechanism and molecular targets of manuka honey (MH) on proliferation, invasiveness, and angiogenic potential were investigated using two human breast cancer cell lines, the triple-negative MDA-MB-231 cells and estrogen receptor-positive MCF-7 cells, and the non-neoplastic breast epithelial MCF-10A cell line.
Infection of MH at concentrations of 0.3-1.25% (w/v) induced a dose-dependent inhibition of the proliferation of MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7, but not MCF-10A, cells.
At higher concentrations (>2.5%), MH was found to be generally deleterious to the growth of all three cell lines.
MH induced apoptosis of MDA-MB-231 cells through the activation of proteins associated with cell death programming and cancer cells apoptosis correlated with a loss of proteins associated with cancer cell proliferation.
Furthermore, low concentrations of MH (0.03-1.25% w/v) induced a rapid reduction in tyrosine-phosphorylated STAT3 (pY-STAT3) involved in cell growth and division in MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells.
The maximum inhibition of pY-STAT3 was observed at 1 h with a loss of >80% and coincided with decreased interleukin-6 (IL-6) production.
These results suggested manuka honey (MH) inhibits breast cancer cell lines through many different mechanisms.
A total of 50 nulliparous female Sprague-Dawley rats were grouped as follows: Group 0 (healthy normal rats control), Group 1 (negative control; untreated rats), Groups 2, 3, and 4 received daily doses of 0.2, 1.0, and 2.0 g/kg body weight of TH, respectively. The rats in groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 were induced with 80 mg/kg of 1-methyl-1-nitrosourea (MNU) to examine the effects of Tualang honey (TH) against breast cancer.
The TH-treated rats showed a reduction of tumor progression (mean 75.3 days versus 51.5 days) compared to control.
The incidence (mean 76.6% versus 100%); the multiplicity (mean 2.5 versus 4 tumor masses per rat); the size of tumor mass (mean 0.41 cm versus 1.47 cm [p < 0.05]) and the weight of the tumor mass (mean 1.22 g versus 3.23 g; [p < 0.05]) also lower in the TH treated rats compared to control.
The grade of breast cancer is lower (I and II) compared to control (Grade III),
The efficacy of TH treatment in reducing the expression of breast cancer was attributed to the lower anti-apoptotic proteins (E2, ESR1, and Bcl-xL) expression and a higher pro-apoptotic proteins (Apaf-1 and Caspase-9) expression at serum and on the cancer tissue level.
The breast cancer size breast in the TH-treated groups was smaller mean tumor size (≤ 2 cm3) compared to Controls (≤ 8 cm3). The number of cancers developing in TH-treated groups was also significantly lower.
More importantly, an increasing trend of the apoptotic index (AI) was found in TH-treated groups with an increasing dosage of Tualang Honey compared to control.
Taken together, adding a portion of honey into a women's diet may have a potential effect in reducing the risk of breast cancer.
And honey may be considered an adjunct therapy combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of breast cancer.

#Herbal #Andrographis Inhibits the Risk of #HeartDisease Through its Antioxidant Activities, Researcher Say
Kyle J. Norton
Herbal Andrographis may process certain bioactive compounds for the prevention and treatment of heart diseases, some scientists suggested.
Heart disease is the medical condition associated with the blood vessels, including coronary artery disease, heart rhythm, and a heart defect caused by the accumulation of plaques.
Plaque made up of cholesterol, fatty molecules, and minerals accumulated in the arteries can cause stiffening and hardening of the arterial wall and narrowing of the arteries, affecting the transportation of oxygen risk blood to the heart.
These result suggested that people who follow the Western diet high in saturated and trans fat, red med meat and processed foods and over the use of calcium supplement are associated with the increased risk plaque building up.
Long-term building-up plaques can cause substantial damage to the arterial wall, facilitating the onset of heart disease.
According to statistics, heart disease kills more than 2,000 Americans every day and approximately 60 million Americans have heart disease.
The exact causes of heart disease are debatable. Researchers do not why people who over a few decades of following the Western diet, only some are susceptible to heart disease while many do not, even they have the same health conditions.
The differentiation suggested that some people may process certain genetic prepositions which
can increase the development of heart disease.
Dr. Seka Kathiresan, the lead scientist in the study"Genetics of Human Cardiovascular Disease" Cardiovascular disease encompasses a range of conditions extending from myocardial infarction to congenital heart disease most of which are heritable", and
"ANGPTL3mutations as a cause of familial combined hypolipidemia, BAG mutations for dilated cardiomyopathy, NT5E mutations for arterial calcification, KCNJ5 mutations for hereditary hypertension due to aldosterone-producing adenomas, and KLHL3 or CUL3mutations for hypertension and hyperkalemia".
Other risk factors, according to epidemiological studies include obesity insulin resistance or diabetes, high cholesterol and blood pressure, being physically inactive, smoking, and eating an unhealthy diet are also associated with disease onset.
However, most people who carry some of the risk factors have never developed heart disease.
Andrographis paniculata is also known as Andrographis is a herbaceous plant, genus Andrographis, belonging to the family Acanthaceae, native to India and Sri Lanka.
The plant has been used in traditional Siddha and Ayurvedic in treating the common cold, flu, upper respiratory infections, infectious diseases, diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, pneumonia, swollen lymph nodes, leprosy, bronchitis, sore throats, tuberculosis, chicken pox, etc.
In the concern of ischemia-reperfusion (I-R) injury in the increase of the complication of myocardial infarction (MI), researchers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences conducted a study with an aim to find a natural ingredient or whole herb which processes a cardioprotective effect.
In the rat model, hydroalcoholic extract of Andrographis paniculata was evaluated against the left anterior descending coronary artery (LADCA) ligation-induced I-R injury of the myocardium.
Selected MI rats were induced by LADCA ligation for 45 min followed by reperfusion for 60 min and divided into five experimental groups viz., sham (saline-treated, but LADCA was not ligated), I-R control (saline-treated + I-R), benazepril (30 mg/kg + I-R), A. paniculata (200 mg/kg per se) and A. paniculata (200 mg/kg + I-R).
* In the I-R control group, LADCA ligation showed a significant cardiac dysfunction evidenced by reduced hemodynamic parameters; mean arterial pressure (MAP), and heart rate (HR).
* The I-R control without treatment of the herbal extract expressed a decline of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and glutathione (GSH) but enhanced lipid peroxidation product, malondialdehyde (MDA), a marker of oxidative stress.
After 30 days of 200 mg/kg A. paniculata administered orally, the treated group showed favorable improvement in hemodynamic and left ventricular contractile function, restoration of the myocardial antioxidants, and prevention of depletion of myocytes injury marker enzymes along with inhibition of lipid peroxidation.
The results indicated that 200 mg/kg A. paniculata demonstrated a significant cardioprotective activity by inhibiting the adverse effect caused by LADCA in the rat model.
Dr. Ojha SK, the lead author said. "The cardioprotective effects of A. paniculata were found comparable to that of benazepril treatment".
Additionally, in reaffirming the cardioprotective effect of herbal Andrographis, researchers launched an investigation to examine the watery extract of Andrographis paniculata Nees (APN) activity after one hour of the development of myocardial infarction by the formation of a thrombus.
13 dogs were included in the study with 6 of the was served as a control group.
The Andrographis treatment group showed clinically significant efficacy in the improvement of the myocardial structure surrounding the initially appearing ischemic area.
Andrographis exerted a cardioprotective effect in a reversal of the damaged area by restoring the damaged area.
The degree of myocardial degeneration and necrosis in the central part of the ischemic area was mild. in the treatment, dogs compared to the control.
These observations strongly suggested that APN processes cardioprotection by limiting the expansion of ischemic focus, accelerating the reversibly ischemic myocardium.
Taken together, herbal Andrographis may be considered a functional food for the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of heart disease.

#LowCaffeine #GreenTea Intake Daily and Regularly is Associated with Reduced Stress and Improvef Sleep Quality, Scientists Say
Kyle J. Norton
Scientists may have found a beverage with the potential to improve stress and sleep quality, some studies suggested.
According to the report published in Sleep Health. sleep quality is classified depending on the criteria of the person's sleep pattern, including
* Sleeping more time while in bed (at least 85 percent of the total time)
*Falling asleep in 30 minutes or less
*Waking up no more than once per night; and
* Being awake for 20 minutes or less after initially falling asleep
Sleep disturbances are encompassed disorders classified by the initiating and maintaining sleep (DIMS, insomnias), disorders of excessive somnolence (DOES), disorders of sleep-wake schedule, and dysfunctions associated with sleep, sleep stages, or partial arousals (parasomnias), the
Clinical Methods: The History, Physical, and Laboratory Examinations. 3rd edition wrote.
According to the statistic, over 50 million Americans, or 1 in 2,5 adults suffer from a sleep disorder and acute and chronic insomnia affects at least 30% and 10% of Americans, respectively.
Although researchers do not why people with the same health conditions, carrying the same tasks, are susceptible to sleep disorders, while others do not, they do know that certain risk factors such as gender, age, people with emotional and psychological problems, frequent travelers, shift-worker, long-term under emotional stress are associated with the early onset of the condition,
Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
In the concerns of injection of green tea and the risk of stress and sleep quality, researchers at the University of Shizuoka, launched an investigation to determine the effect of green tea with lowered caffeine, and low-caffeine green tea, on stress and sleep of the elderly.
In the 10 subjects included in the study, participants drank five cups/day of standard green tea for 1 week. Subsequently, they drank five cups/day of low-caffeine green tea for 2 weeks.
After measuring the salivary α-amylase activity (sAA) and sleep stages were measured using portable electroencephalography (n = 7, 6 female and 1 male), researchers found that
* The level of sAA in the morning (sAAm) was significantly lower when the participants drank low-caffeine green tea than standard green tea.
* In those participants whose sAAm was lowered by the ingestion of low-caffeine green tea, some sleep parameters improved.
* These results suggested that daily ingestion of low-caffeine green tea may be a beneficial tool for improving the quality of sleep of the elderly via the suppression of stress.
Where salivary alpha-amylase levels are correlated to sleep-disordered breathing
Furthermore, in the differentiation of the effect of low-caffeine green tea consumption on the risk of sleep quality on middle-aged individuals (n = 20, mean age 51.3 ± 6.7 years) in a double-blind crossover design, with standard green tea (SGT) used as the control and low caffeine green tea teas (≥300 mL/day), which were eluted with room temperature water, were consumed over a period of seven days after a single washout term, researchers indicated that
* The level of salivary α-amylase activity (sAA), a stress marker, was significantly lower in participants that consumed LCGT (64.7 U/mL) than in those that consumed SGT (73.9 U/mL).
* Sleep quality was higher in participants that consumed a larger quantity of LCGT.
* In addition, a self-diagnostic check for accumulated fatigue was significantly lower in those participants that consumed LCGT than SGT.
Dr. Unno K, the lead author of the final report said, " LCGT intake can reduce stress in middle-aged individuals and improve their quality of sleep. The reduction in caffeine is suggested to be a valid reason for enhancing the anti-stress effect of green tea".
Taken together, it is safe to suggest that moderate consumption of low-caffeine green tea may have a profound effect in improving sleep quality by reducing the levels of stress.

The Health Effects of Herbal #AloeVera, Accvording to Studies
Kyle J. Norton
Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belongings to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan.
The herb has become very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits.
Aloe vera has been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of diseases, including wounds, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol,...
It is also one of many popular herb studied in scientific ways with some conflicted results.
The Ingredients
The ten main areas of chemical constituents of Aloe vera include: amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, lignins, monosaccharide, polysaccharides, salicylic acid, saponins, and sterols.
1. Diabetes
Diabetes is defined as a condition caused by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose. It is either caused by cells in the pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol. In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.
Many herbs have been proven in studies to be effective in treating type II diabetes, including Aloe vera.
As a popular herbal remedy in the United Kingdom, oral administration of aloe vera might be a useful adjunct for lowering blood glucose in diabetic patients as well as for reducing blood lipid levels in patients with hyperlipidemia.
In another study of Aloe vera gel in a mouse model of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, Oral administration of PAG for 8 weeks was found to reduce circulating blood glucose concentrations to a normal level in these DIO mice.
Its leaf is also found to be useful in treating diabetes, as the study said A. vera leaf pulp extract showed hypoglycaemic activity in type I (IDDM) and type II (NIDDM) diabetic rats, the effectiveness being enhanced for type II diabetes in comparison with glibenclamide. On the contrary, A. vera leaf gel extract showed hyperglycaemic activity in NIDDM rats.
2. Ance vulgaris
Acne vulgaris, is one of the skin diseases with areas of scaly red skin with seborrhea, blackheads, and whiteheads. Aloe vera one of many herbs has been studied and researched in the pharmaceutical world, because of its common problem to the young ages and commercial profits.
The study to compare the efficacy and safety of the combination of tretinoin (TR) cream (0.05%) and Aloe vera topical gel (50%) with TR and vehicle, has been well tolerated and significantly more effective than TR and vehicle for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris and with fewer side effects.
Other researchers in the observation of traditional medicines of many cultures used to treat skin diseases, indicated that certain ingredients, including aloe vera, have been identified in the treatment of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.
3. Gastric Ulcers
Gastric ulcers are defined as a condition of localized tissue erosion in the lining of the stomach. as a result of the bacteria Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) in most cases.
Some people with gastric ulcers may not experience any symptoms at all, while others may have burning pain, severe nausea, and vomiting.
In the comparison of the effects of Aloe vera and sucralfate on gastric microcirculatory changes, cytokine levels, and gastric ulcer healing, treatment of Aloe vera was found to reduce leukocyte adherence and TNF-alpha level, elevate IL-10 levels and promote gastric ulcer healing.
Because of its anti-inflammatory effects, treatment of A. vera process the enhancement in leukocyte-endothelium interaction are associated with reduction in TNF-alpha level.
Other in another study of acute gastric mucosal lesions induced by 0.6 M HCl and acid output, indicated that Aloe vera is endowed with gastric acid anti-secretory activity and could protect the gastric mucosa at low concentrations against injurious agents.
Another component of Aloe vera, the Polymer fraction (Avpf; molecular weight cut-off ≥50 kDa; 150 mg/kg body weight, p.o.), reduces 50% of the mRNA expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS), according to the study.
4. Cancers
Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells growing and multiplying in disordered and uncontrollable ways in our body, have become progressively worse and damage other healthy tissues, sometimes spreading to other organs in the body via lymph or blood and results may be in death.
Aloe-Emodi, a chemical compound found in Aloe vera, specifically suppresses breast cancer cell proliferation by targeting ER α protein stability through distinct mechanisms and may be used as a possible application of anthraquinones in preventing or treating breast cancer in the future.
Also in other studies, Aloe-Emodi is considered as a potential value for the treatment of gastric cancer and cervical cancer because its mechanisms are by means of cell cycle interruption and induce differentiation and suppressed the expression of PKCalpha and c-myc.
Radiotherapy is most often used to treat head and neck, cancer patients. Ina study of aloe Vera, Dr. Ahmadi A. found that oral Aloe vera mouthwash may not only prevent radiation-induced mucositis but also may reduce oral candidiasis of patients undergoing head and neck radiotherapy due to its antifungal and immunomodulatory properties.
5. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCO)
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is defined as an endocrinologic disease caused by undeveloped follicles clumping on the ovaries that interfere with the function of the normal ovaries resulting in enlarged ovaries, leading hormone imbalance( excessive androgen), resulting in male pattern hair development, acne, irregular period or absence of period, weight gain and affecting fertility. It affects over 5% of the women population or 1 in 20 women. According to the study by Desai BN, Maharjan RH, and Nampoothiri LP. almost 70% of PCOS women have abnormal serum lipid levels (dyslipidemia) and 50% of these women are obese. Several classes of pharmacological agents have been used to manage dyslipidemia. However, studies have shown adverse effects associated with these drugs.
Aloe Vera may be a potential herb in treating Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome by enhancing the reductions of plasma triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, with an increase in HDL cholesterol, or by restoring the ovarian steroid status.
According to the study of PCOS induced in Charles Foster female rats by oral administration of non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor letrozole (0.5 mg/kg body weight, 21 days), AVG-treated PCOS rats exhibited a significant reduction in plasma triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, with an increase in HDL cholesterol.
The gel treatment also caused a reversion of abnormal estrous cyclicity, glucose intolerance, and lipid metabolizing enzyme activities, bringing them to normal. Another study also indicated that Aloe vera gel formulation exerts a protective effect against the PCOS phenotype by restoring the ovarian steroid status and altering key steroidogenic activity.
This can be attributed to phyto-components present in the extract.
Dr.Pérez YY and the research team in the study of the Effect of a polyphenol-rich extract from Aloe vera gel on experimentally induced insulin resistance in mice also indicated that decreasing significantly both body weight (p < 0.008) and blood glucose levels of Aloe, calculated using the homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) formula by the polyphenol-rich extract from Aloe vera.
Also in the confirmation of the above result, the study of Aloe vera leaves on blood glucose levels in type I and type II diabetic rat models, vera leaf pulp extract showed hypoglycaemic activity on IDDM and NIDDM rats, the effect being enhanced for type II diabetes in comparison with glibenclamide. On the contrary,
A. vera leaf gel extract showed hyperglycaemic activity in NIDDM rats. It may therefore be concluded that the pulps of Aloe vera leaves devoid of the gel could be useful in the treatment of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Where non-diabetic (ND), type I (IDDM), and type II (NIDDM) diabetic rats.
6. Gingivitis
Gingivitis is defined as a condition of Inflammation of Gum Diseases.
Aloe Vera's anti-inflammatory properties may be the result of the plant being used in the treatment of gum diseases. In the sudy of 45 patients who were diagnosed with plaque-induced gingivitis were included, aloe mouth wash is proven to be the most potential in reduction in gingival inflammation caused by plagues.
Other in the randomized, controlled, and double-blind study, a total of 148 systemically healthy subjects, showed a statistically significant decrease in PI, MGI, and BI scores after the rinse regimen began in comparison with the use of chlorhexidine.
But Dr. de Oliveira SM, and the research team in comparison of Aloe vera and fluoridated dentifrice, found that there was a significant reduction in plaque and gingivitis in both groups, but no statistically significant difference was observed among them (p>0.01), Aloe vera did not show any additional effect on plaque and gingivitis control compared to the fluoridated dentifrice.
7. Psoriasis
Psoriasis is defined as a chronic condition of inflammatory skin disease, affecting the joints and mostly happens to people who are obese and are predisposed to diabetes and heart disease.
Many herbal extracts have been used as topical management of plaque psoriasis, including Aloe vera based on multiple studies.
Aloe vera gel is used in alternative medicine over the century for the treatment of skin diseases, including psoriasis, and a recent study showed that ethanolic extract of Aloe vera leaf gel also produced a significant increase in relative epidermal thickness and an overall antipsoriatic activity of high effective rate.
Other in the comparison of comparison to evaluate the efficacy of Topical aloe vera (AV) and 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide (TA) in mild to moderate plaque psoriasis, AV cream may be more effective than 0.1% TA cream was found to be more effective in reducing clinical symptoms of psoriasis.
Unfortunately, in diverse dermatologic conditions, even though there are some promising results with the use of aloe vera, but clinical effectiveness of oral and topical aloe vera may require further studies, according to the study of Dr. Feily A, and Dr. Namazi MR.
8. Irritable bowel syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome is defined as a condition if a patient is diagnosed with abdominal pain or discomfort, bloating, and alteration of bowel habits at least three times a month for the last 3 months without the preexistence of other diseases.
Aloe vera (AV) has long been suggested by herbal medicine in treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms. In the comparison of the effectiveness of a mixture of Aloe vera (AV) and Matricaria recutita (German chamomile, GC) in treating Irritable bowel syndrome, GC inhibited only small bowel transit while the AV/GC mixture delayed gastric emptying at the doses of 150 and 300 mg/kg.
The AV/GC mixture also reduced colonic transit and small bowel transit at the dose of 150 mg/kg. In other randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trials to test the effects of aloe vera for irritable bowel syndrome, there was no evidence that AV benefits patients with IBS and is superior to placebo in improving quality of life proven Irritable Bowel Syndrome patients, but in 49 completed the protocol to 1 month and 41 to 3 months.
Eleven of thirty-one (35%) AV patients, and 6 of 27 (22%) placebo patients responded at 1 month (p = 0.763). Diarrhoea predominant patients showed a trend towards a response to treatment at 1 month (10/23 V 2/14, p = 0.07).
9. Skin diseases
Skin disease is defined as a condition of skin damage and is classified according to each pathogenic cause of diseases.
In a systematic review of Aloe vera's clinical effectiveness, topical application of Aloe vera is not an effective preventative for radiation-induced skin injuries but might be effective for genital herpes and psoriasis.
In support of the above, a study by Feily A, Namazi MR. indicated that Topical application of aloe vera is not effective in sunburn or suntan protection, but might be effective in treating genital herpes, psoriasis, human papillomavirus, seborrheic dermatitis, aphthous stomatitis, xerosis, lichen planus, frostbite, burn, wound healing, and inflammation.
