#Healthyfoods That Treat Migraine Headaches, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

A migraine is one most common headaches characterized by a chronic neurological disorder of moderate to severe headaches, and nausea that usually develops gradually over 5–20 minutes and lasts for less than 60 minutes.

The condition affects over 15% population in the US, as a result of the change in the brain and its surrounding blood vessels.

Some researchers suggested that dietary and gastrointestinal issues have a significant impact on the clinical expression of a migraine, including gut dysfunction during and between attacks, food triggers, increase in migraine with obesity, comorbid GI and systemic inflammation influenced by diet, and specific food allergies such as dairy and gluten(1).

And, caregivers and practitioners not only need to encourage migraineurs to seek consistency in their lifestyle behaviors, and environmental exposures, as a way of avoiding sudden changes that may precipitate attacks(1) but also must remind them to avoid suspected foods that trigger, consistently(1).

Believe it or not, according to statistics and research, migraine headaches have caused a substantial individual impact on work productivity and increased a significant societal burden to direct medical costs and lost work time(2).

And in more severe persistent migraine, the lost work time costs greatly exceed medical care costs(2).

The most common symptoms during migraine attacks include pain on one side or both sides of the head and pain that feels throbbing or pulsing.

Some patients during attacks also experience symptoms of light, sounds, smells, and touch sensitivity.

In some cases, the attack also induces symptoms of nausea and vomiting. blurred vision..... and lightheadedness.

Wholefoods for a Migraine headache
Certain diets may trigger the attack of a migraine due to an allergic reaction in certain people, but the below-suggested foods may be helpful to people who experience migraine with no allergic effects.
1. Water
Water, an essential for the body’s proper functioning, and dehydration may trigger the migraine attack.

In a study of 50 migraineurs who were asked if insufficient fluid intake could provoke their migraine attacks conducted by The City of London Migraine Clinic, researchers found that twenty replied "yes," 7 were doubtfully positive, and 23 said "no."

In addition 14 of 45 migraineurs at a meeting of the British Migraine Association (UK) also recognized fluid deprivation as one of their migraine triggers. (E.C.1).

Therefore, adding fluid deprivation to migraine patients may reduce the number of migraine attacks.

2. Fish oil
Omega-3 PUFA, from fish oil-eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) process anti-inflammatory properties which are useful in the management of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, psoriasis, lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis, and migraine headaches. (E.C.2)

3. Broccoli
Broccoli is a very good source of magnesium and a good source of calcium.

Magnesium plays an essential in many intracellular processes and in migraine pathogenesis. Low levels of magnesium may promote cortical spreading depression, hyper-aggregation of platelets, affect serotonin receptor function, and influence synthesis and release of a variety of neurotransmitters which can trigger a migraine headache(B.A.8)

4. Sardines
Sardines contain a measurable amount of Omega 3 fatty acid, calcium, and CoQ10 with function in reduced frequency of a migraine headache (E.B.3)(E.B.2)

5. Spinach
Spinach is an excellent source of both calcium, magnesium, and vitamin B2 (riboflavin).

Riboflavin therapy supplemented may be an appropriate alternative in patients with migraine disorder as it significantly decreases headache frequency, intensity, duration, and medication intake (E.C.7)

6. Mustard Greens
The World's Healthiest Foods recommends mustard greens as an excellent source of calcium and a very good source of magnesium which is important in preventing and treating migraine headaches (See E.B.1 and 2)

7. Fish
Besides being rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, all fish contain more or less DL-phenylalanine, an essential amino acid that is important for our body converts phenylalanine to tyrosine, another amino acid then to epinephrine and norepinephrine, which are important brain chemicals called neurotransmitters.

Some researchers suggest that DL-phenylalanine(DLPA) appears to potentiate pain relief and ease depression in patients receiving opiates for chronic non-malignant pain(E.C.9).

#Healthyfood #Eggplant Blocks the Matrix Matrigel (MG) in the Initiation of Tumor Cell Proliferation or Migration of #Fibrosarcoma

Kyle J. Norton

Eggplant may have a potential and substantial effect in reduced risk and treatment of Fibrosarcoma some scientists suggested.

Eggplant is a species of S. melongena with deep purple color, belongings to the family Solanaceae and native to India, cultivated in southern and eastern Asia since prehistory.

Fibrosarcoma is the medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the fibrous connective tissue. The tumor can be classified into a low grade, intermediate malignancy, and high malignancy, depending on different degrees of differentiation:

In the investigation of eggplant (Solanum melongena var. marunasu) extract activity on human fibrosarcoma HT-1080 cell lines, researchers at the Gifu Pharmaceutical University found that delphinidin, a flavonoid pigment containing in the peel, does not affect tumor cell cells interact and attach to a surface, substrate or another cell to the basement membrane matrix Matrigel (MG) to initiate the tumor cells proliferation or migration, but modulated the expression of matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-2 and MMP-9 secreted by the tumor cell, thus reducing risk of the matrices in stimulated cancer cell growth and tumor expansion.

Basement Membrane Matrix is a solubilized basement membrane preparation extracted from the Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm (EHS) mouse sarcoma.

The function of matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-2 and MMP-9 are to degrade the extracellular matrix (ECM) which plays an essential role in the collection of extracellular molecules secreted by support cells to provide structural and biochemical support to the surrounding cells.

In vivo, the basement membrane matrix Matrigel (MG) has been used to measure the angiogenic inhibitors and stimulators, repair damaged tissues, and increase tumor growth in some cancer experiments.

Further differentiation of delphinidin in cancer risk insisted that the chemical constituents also restained cancer cell invasion through reduced expression of inhibited serum- and vascular endothelium growth factor(VEGF) in the induction of making new blood vessel to provide nutrients and oxygen for proliferation and cancer progression.

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a potent stimulator of angiogenesis, associated with unfavorable clinical characteristics by promoting proliferation secreted by various human cancers.
Moreover, researchers also indicated that the efficacy of anti-cancer cell activity of delphinidin was attributed to the function of phytochemical in triggering extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs) in regulated cancer cell cycle division, including meiosis, mitosis, and post mitosis.

The in-depth analysis also discovered that delphinidin isolated from eggplant also activated the independent of nitric oxide pathway in the suppression of cancer cell progression by initiated cell cycle arrest in the G(0)/G(1) phase.

Interestingly, gallic acid and anthocyanins, the bioactive chemical constituents isolated from eggplant and other fruits and vegetables in the study of human fibrosarcoma HT-1080 suggested that injection of gallic acid and anthocyanins derivative delphinidin-3-glucoside demonstrated a significant activity in the induction of cell apoptosis through cytotoxicity.

According to the Zymographic analysis, gallic acid exerted the anti-cancer cell growth and tumor invasiveness through inhibited the secretion and activation of gelatinase proteases in breaking down protein into its building blocks, amino acids of MMP to activate cancer progression and metastasis by the tumor.
In human, gelatinases are expressed by matrix metalloproteinases MMP2 and MMP9.
Importantly, gallic acid also ameliorated cancer progression through inhibition of the matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-2 and MMP-9 same as the effectiveness as delphinidin involved in the anti-angiogenic activity.

Taken together, eggplant with abundant bioactive chemical compounds such as gallic acid and anthocyanins may be used as functional food for reduced risk and treatment of fibrosarcoma, depending to further investigation.

#Herbal #Anise #EssentialOils Inhibit the Onset of #ViralInfectiousDiseases by Blocking the Virus' initiation of the First Phase of Infection

By Kyle J. Norton

Herbal Anise may be the next potential target to identify the single ingredient medicine for the treatment of viral infection, some scientists suggested.
Infection is a condition caused the invasion of stimuli and micro pathogens, including the viral infection.

Viral infection is a disease caused by the successful entering and multiplying of a virus in the body.

Anti-viral effects is an act of certain substances to cause the destruction of a virus.

In the acute phase of viral infection, depending on the types of virus, the viruses after entering the body start to attack the specific host cells. The cold and flu virus will attack the cells in the respiratory system and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which causes AIDS, will attack the white blood cells of the immune system,

The viral infection has been known to carry over some different stages, after successfully attaching to the host cell, the virus releases its mRNA into the host cell, leading to the recruitment of the host cell's enzymes to accelerate the viral multiplying, then breaking free from the host cell to start the cycle all over again.

The white blood cells in the systematic immune response in the acute phase of infection stimulate the production of the proinflammatory cytokines to the site of infection with an aim to protect our body by killing off the invaders.

The battle between the immune white blood cell and viral invaders in most cases and in the flavor of the side of the immune system, the invaders are killed and the infection is healed.

However, if the immune system can not kill off the invaders with 3 - 8 weeks, it then will adapt to the change, leading to chronic inflammatory and infectious diseases.

Anise is a flowering plant of the species of Pimpinella anisum, genus Pimpinella, belonging to the family Apiaceae native to Egypt and the Mediterranean region.

The popular herb has been used in traditional herbal medicine as a fragrance in soaps, oils, and mouth fresheners and stomachic, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic, carminative, digestive, expectorant, stimulant, and tonic agent to treat head-lice and mites, increase blood pressure, prevent the formation of gas in the gastrointestinal tract and menstrual cramps, etc.

Besides the main ingredient Anethole, herbal Anise also contains, D-pinene, I-phellandrene, Alpha-terpineol, Safrol, Methyl chavicol, Resin, Shikimic acid, etc.

The finding a natural antiviral ingredient or whole without inducing any side effects, researchers examined 3 antiviral and immunostimulating substances (LC1, LC2, and LC3) isolated from a hot water extract of seeds of Pimpinella anisum (herbal Anise).

The isolated substances were found to significantly anti antiviral activities against herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and -2), human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) and measles virus.
Application of LCs interfered with virus adsorption to the host cell surface and directly inactivate viruses.

The results indicated that the isolated compound protected the cell membrane against the penetration of the virus in the initiation of the first phase of infection.

Furthermore, injection of LCs also prevents the overexpression of protein associated with macrophages infected. In other words, PCs protects the white blood cells associated with the first line of the immune response against the viral invasion.

The results also inhibited the overproduction of the inflammatory cytokines in the acute phase of infection.

Dr. Lee JB, the lead author said, " lignin-carbohydrate-protein complexes from P. anisum possessed potency as functional food ingredients against infectious diseases".

Moreover, the University of Heidelberg investigated the effect of anise oil, dwarf-pine oil, and chamomile oil against different thymidine-kinase-positive (aciclovir-sensitive) and thymidine-kinase-negative (aciclovir-resistant) herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) strains also suggested that essential oil from herbal Anise displays a strong effect against tested viruses.

At maximum noncytotoxic concentrations of the Anise essential oils, significantly reduced the plaque formation by 96.6-99.9% when herpesviruses were preincubated with drugs before attachment to host cells.
Adding essential oil during the replication phase completely wiped out the possibility of viral infectivity.

Compared to the conventional medicine aciclovir, which is effective after attachment inside the infected cells, anise oil affected the virus by interrupting adsorption of herpesviruses and in a different manner.

The findings suggested that herbal Anise essential oils are capable of exerting a direct effect on HSV and might be useful in the treatment of drug-resistant viruses.

Taken all together, herbal anise may be considered a functional herb for the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with primary medicine for diseases associated with viral infection.

#Herbal #Calendula Exerts A Strong Neuroprotective Effects Through the Production of Antioxidant Enzymes, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Herbal Calendula may have a potential and profound effect in protecting the neuron's integrity against the onset of neuroprotective effects.
The neuroprotective effect is a protection against damage to the brain cells.

The nerve system is a complex network including the brain and spinal cord with a unique function in transmitting information or signals from and to the brain and spinal cord from different parts of the body.

The nerve system in the human has evolved over thousands of year to enhance the survivals of the human species by the rapid response to the change of environmental factors and adapting to the change of environment.

The causes of neuro diseases are associated with the damage or dysfunction of the central nervous system (CNS), including the brain, brainstem, and spinal cord.

However, some of the most common causes of neuro diseases are associated with neurotoxicity, the term which refers to damage to the brain or spinal cord caused by exposure to natural or man-made toxic substances, leading to gradual loss of neurons that interfere with the function of the nerve system in transmitting information to other parts of the body.

There are many factors associated with the onset of neurotoxicities, such as characteristics of the neurotoxin, the doses of exposure, and the ability to metabolize and excrete the toxin.

Accumulation of toxic chemicals over the long-term in the nerve system can overwhelm the protective factors, leading to neurotoxic symptoms of paralysis or weakness in the limbs. altered sensation, tingling, and numbness in the limbs, prolonged headache, and vision loss, depending on the brain area of toxicity.

In the elderly, neuro-toxicity is also found to speed up the onset of neurodegenerative diseases, leading to symptoms of loss of memory and cognitive dysfunction, such as Alzheimer's disease.

Calendula is also known as pot marigold, an annual or perennial herbaceous plant of about 12–20 species of the genus Calendula, belonging to the family Asteraceae, native to Southern Europe.

The herbal plant has been used in traditional medicine for spasmolytic, spasmogenic, and inflammatory effects and to treat abdominal cramps, wound healing, skin diseases, colitis, constipation, etc.

Besides major chemical constituents of triterpenoids, flavonoids, coumarins, quinones, volatile oil, carotenoids, and amino acids, the herb also contains loliolide (calendar), calendulin, and n-paraffins.

In the concern that oxidative stress (OS) and nitric oxide mechanisms proposed in 3-nitropropionic acid (3-NP)-induced neurotoxicity, scientists at the Sree Siddaganga College of Pharmacy examined the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and estrogenic effects of Calendula officinalis Linn. flower extract (COE) neuroprotective against the experimental model.

The study included numbers of rat-induced neurotoxicity by the injection of 3-NP.

Observing behavioral changes, OS and striatal damage in rat brains suggested that neurotoxic rat was accompanied by significant alterations in animal behavior, oxidative defense system evidenced by raised levels of LPO and nitrite concentration, and depletion of antioxidant levels.

These examinations showed that 3-NP caused significant damage to the rat brain by increasing the expression of free radicals and suppressing the production of antioxidant enzymes by the host body.

The injection also enhanced the production of inflammatory cytokines which have a strong effect on blood vessels constriction and the loss of neuronal cells in the striatal region

Application of the herbal extract significantly attenuated behavioral alterations, oxidative damage and striatal neuronal loss in 3-NP-treated animals.

These results showed that COE is protective against 3-NP-induced neurotoxicity in rats through its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and estrogenic propertToaim to determine the effect of Calendula officinalis Linn. flower extract (COE) in the inhibition of excess monosodium glutamate (MSG), a popular flavor enhancer used in food industries in the induction of neurotoxicity, researchers conducted an experiment to evaluate the neuroprotective effect of COE on MSG-induced neurotoxicity in rats.

Adult Wistar rats selected to the study were administered systemically for 7 days with MSG and after one h of MSG injection before treated with COE (100 and 200 mg/kg) orally.

Before being treated with COE, the infected rats showed a significant alteration in animal behavior, oxidative defense (raised levels of LPO, nitrite concentration, depletion of antioxidant levels), and hippocampal neuronal histology.

These result indicated that MSG displays similar effects to those of 3-NP in facilitating the imbalance of the ratio of the free radicals and antioxidant enzymes in the tested rats.

Observation of the result after injection of COE, researchers found that COE only restores the balance of the free radicals and antioxidant ratio but also inhibits the death of neuron cells in the brain.

The neuroprotective effect of COE was attributed to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, suggested by Dr. Shivasharan BD, the lead scientist.

Taken together, Herbal Calendula may be considered a functional herb for the prevention of neurotoxicity and an adjunct therapy combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of neuro diseases induced by toxicity.

Symptoms and Complications of Organs' Toxicity, Researchers Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Our body toxins are removed by some vital organs such as the liver, kidney, and skin.
If one of these organs starts to malfunction, others must take the toxins and remove them.

In cases of our body cannot completely remove all the toxins, toxins will be accumulated in the organs and tissue, leading to the weakening of organs and tissue function in the induction of chronic diseases.

1. The Liver
The liver plays a major role in metabolism.
It is among the few internal human organs capable of the natural regeneration of lost tissue.
The liver has a vital function in removing toxins in our body, such as an overdose of medication, vitamin A, and other substances damaging normal function.
Symptoms of a weakened liver include:
a) Arthritis
b) Pale or Brittle nails
c) Unable to sleep
d) Bitter taste in the mouth
e) Limited muscle flexibility

Some herbal medicine may have a significant effect to promote liver function by eliminating toxins from our body including, milk thistle, a flowering plant of the daisy family that has been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of chronic liver disease.

The herbal medicine contains silymarin with impressive functions in protecting liver function and expelling liver toxins.

In a study to compare Cirsium japonicum DC's flavonoids, liver protection against liver toxicity using carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) with silymarin as a positive control, researchers after taking into account other co and founders found that silymarin exerts a clear hepatoprotective effect similar to those of Cirsium japonicum DC's flavonoids against toxins caused by injection of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)(1)

2. The Kidneys
Works together with the Liver in removing toxins from our diet including an overdose of medication through urinary extraction.

The kidneys also make hormones that control blood pressure, bone maintenance, and the production of red blood cells. Most cases of kidney disease are caused by high blood pressure, kidney inflammation, and hardening of arterial walls.

Symptoms of a weakened kidney include:
a) Sexual dysfunction
b) Mental retardation
c) Low-grade back pain
d) The weakness of the knee and leg
e) Frequent urination

According to the University of Southern California, antioxidant phenolic compounds such as tannins, flavonoids, isoflavonoids, unsaturated organic acids, and lignans; circulation-enhancing compounds like saponins, and basic alkaloids with multiple targets (G-protein coupled receptors) may have a profound and positive effect in improved kidney function(2).

The other compounds with properties in the exertion of proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory activities may also be included in these groups, such as fatty acids like linoleic (n-6) and α-linolenic (n-3) acids(2).

And these compounds can be found in many Chinese herbal plants(2).

Dr. Lien EJ, the lead author said, "Attention is also drawn to the plants containing nephrotoxic aristolochic acid. Different directions of future research are also presented. We hope that this review may provide some leads for a new drug (with kidney protective effect ) discovery and development, and more rational application of TCM"(2).

3. The Skin
Skin is the largest organ of the integumentary system made up of multiple layers of epithelial tissues.

It also is the third system with the function to expel toxins from our body, if the liver and kidney cannot completely remove them.

Symptoms of toxic skin include:
a) Skin rashes caused by vitiligo and psoriasis
b) Red, itchy rash
c) Inflammation
d) Temporary disability

Duchesnea indica (Rosaceae family), used extensively in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of varieties of diseases and syndrome may have a potential effect in protecting skin against toxic substance accumulation.

According to the Kangwon National University, the methanolic extract of D. indica (DIM) protected skin toxicity by increasing the antioxidant levels of the host by utilizing antioxidants in the extract and antioxidants produced enzymes in the body tissue.

Dr. Hu W, the lead scientist said, "Pretreatment of CCD-986Sk cells with methanolic extract of D. indica (DIM) improved the cell viability, enhanced activity of catalase, and decreased the leakage of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) in H(2)O(2) injured cells"(3).

4. The Intestine (except the colon)
Intestine includes 2 parts
* The small intestine is further subdivided into the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. it helps to digest materials passing through and from where nutrients are absorbed.

* The large intestine is subdivided into the cecum and colon with the unique function in absorbing water from digested material and any nutrients that may have escaped primary digestion in the ileum.
Symptoms of dysfunction of the intestine include:
a) Abdominal pain
b) Peripheral vision losses, night vision losses
c) Weight loss
d) Upset stomach, fever, earache, headache
e) Bowel obstruction
f) Muscle spasms and cramps

Sipjeondaebo-tang, a traditional herbal medicine formula, used to improve the immune system against the invasion of foreign pathogens., maybe a potential herbal medicine in promoting gastrointestinal performance.

Application of Sipjeondaebo-tang water extract (SDTW; 200 mg/kg of body weight) to rats 2 h before the oral administration of absolute ethanol to induced gastric mucosal injury exerted a gastric protective effect by decreasing the damage via conditioning the gastric mucosa, such as hemorrhage, hyperemia(4).

The results of these activities were observed by significantly reduced MDA concentration and increased GSH contents and the activities of antioxidant enzymes(4).

Dr. Woo-Young Jeon, the lead scientist said, "In an acute toxicity study, no adverse effects of SDTW were observed at doses up to 5000 mg/kg/day"(4).

5. The Colon
The colon is the last portion of the digestive system.

It also has a function in extracting water and salt from solid waste before eliminating them from the anus.

Symptoms of a malfunctioning colon include:
a) Memory loss
b) Inability to concentrate and confusion
c) Joint pain
d) Weakening the colon's ability to properly eliminate all the waste materials
f) Autointoxication or self-poisoning.

The composition of extracts of 3 herbs medicine (Atractylodis Rhizoma Macrocephalae, Massa Medicata Fermentata, and Dolichoris Semen) has been known to exert GI protective activities
According to the study in the evaluation of gut microbial niche by antibiotics like neomycin in produced gastrointestinal (GI) disorders conducted by the Dongguk University-Seoul, application of a mixture augmented stool water content, decreased fecal population of Lactobacillus spp., changed the histology of the intestine without inducing inflammation, reduced the colonic expression of zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) and claudin-1, a marker of the presence of bacteria, against neomycin-induced digestive dysfunction(5).

Dr. Bose S, the lead author said, "The combined treatment with any of the above agents ameliorated the histological changes of cecum and colon in neomycin-treated rats, and the magnitude of this effect was probiotic > HF-2 > HF-1"(5).

6. The Blood
If the liver, kidney, and skin cannot completely remove toxins, they will be accumulated in the bloodstream, causing inflammation of blood vessels and buildup of plaque.

Symptoms of poisoned blood include:
a) Illusion
b) Confusion
c) Black Stew
d) Black skin
e) Inflammation

According to the Dongguk University Seoul, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Massa Medicata Fermentata, and Dolichoris Semen are Chinese herbal medicine used for the treatment of symptoms induced by inflammation.

In LPS-mediated inflammatory insult, either individually in vitro using RAW264.7 cells or in combination in vivo using rats, the application of individual herbs exerted a significant anti-inflammatory activity through strongly attenuated the blood endotoxin and CRP levels, as well as the gut permeability, and significantly augmented the intestinal Lactobacillus spp. colonization in LPS-treated rats(6).

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is known to produce endotoxic shock by triggering systemic inflammatory responses.

7. Lung
The lung is the essential respiration organ with functions in transporting oxygen into the bloodstream and releasing carbon dioxide from the bloodstream into the atmosphere.

Symptoms of a weakened lung include:
a) Build-up of mucus
b) Irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, lips, and tongue
c) Blockage of the airway
d) Sudden illness
e) A chronic cough
f) Tiredness or depression

In the study to analyze whether Esculentoside A (EsA), a saponin isolated from the Chinese herb Phytolacca esculenta with lung protective effect against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI) researchers at the Jilin University found that injection of EsA shows marked effects by reducing inflammatory infiltration, thickening of the alveolar wall, and pulmonary congestion and decreases levels of tumor necrosis factor α and inflammatory factor interleukin 6 which are elevated by LPS(7).

After taking into account other co and con confounders, Dr. Zhong WT, the lead researcher said, "EsA suppressed inflammatory responses in LPS-induced ALI through inhibition of the nuclear factor kappa B and mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling pathways"(7).

Nuclear factor kappa B are signaling proteins with a function in the activated production of inflammatory cytokines.

Mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling pathways are a family of proteins with functions that involved a number of fundamental cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, motility, stress response, apoptosis, and survival.

MK615 Containing #Apricot, Oleanolic and Ursolic acids Inhibits the Risk of #PancreaticCancer, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Apricot may have the potential for the cure of pancreatic cancer without inducing any side effects, some scientists suggested.
Pancreatic cancer is a chronic condition caused by irregular cell growth in the tissue of the pancreas.

Most primary pancreatic cancer starts with the alternated DNA cells on the surface of the inner lining of the pancreas organ.

At the advanced stage, the malignant cells in the pancreas can travel a distance way to infect other tissue and organ through lymph and blood.

Including all the stages, the 5 years survival rate of pancreatic cancer is 7% and it is considered the most rapidly fatal cancer.
Most people in the early stage of pancreatic cancer do not experience any symptoms. However, at the later stage, as the tumor has grown large enough, it can suppress the nearby tissue and nerve cells, leading to localized symptoms and severe pain.

The exact causes of pancreatic cancer are unknown. Age, gender, race, and family history. and inherited genetic syndromes were found to associate with the risk factor of the onset of the disease, epidemiologically.

Some researchers suggested that the most common risk factors that cause the development of pancreatic cancer are found in patients associated with a history of tobacco use and obesity.

Dr. Alguacil J in the study to examine the association between noncigarette tobacco use (i.e., cigars, pipes, smokeless tobacco) and pancreatic cancer risk among nonsmokers of cigarettes, said, "Cigarette smoking is an important and well-established cause of pancreatic cancer." and "Long-term use of smokeless tobacco (i.e., >20 years) was also associated with a nonsignificant increased risk" and "heavy use of smokeless tobacco, and to a lesser extent, cigar smoking may increase the risk of pancreatic cancer among nonsmokers of cigarettes".

These results suggested cigarettes and noncigarette smoking are associated with the increased risk of pancreatic cancer in a type-dependent manner.

In the obesity front, Dr, Michaud DS in the study "Obesity and Pancreatic Cancer" said, "Obesity early in adulthood is strongly associated with future risk of pancreatic cancer and that abdominal obesity is an independent risk factor. There is increasing evidence suggesting long-standing diabetes type 2 and insulin resistance are important etiological factors of this disease, providing a strong mechanistic link to obesity".

The apricot tree is about 8–12 m tall and a trunk up to 40 cm diameter belongs to the family Rosaceae.

Apricot is classified with the family of plum and has yellow to orange, often tinged red on the side which is exposed to the sun.

The chemical constituents of apricot include
Oleic acid, linoleic acid, palmitic.acid, glycolipids, phospholipids, benzoic acid (I), isorhamnetin (II), quercetin (III), kaempferol-3-O-beta-D-galactopyranoside (IV), isorhamnetin-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (V), isoquercitrin (VI), hypericin (VII) and rutin (VIII)(a) and flavonoid glycosides.

The research team on cancer program at the Shimane University showed that MK615 produced from Japanese apricot and contains oleanolic and ursolic acids may have an effect on the inhibition of pancreatic cancer.

The experiments were performed on several human cancer cell lines exposed to MK615 for 7 days and in vivo growth of human pancreatic cancer MIAPaCa-2 cells.

Application of MK615 inhibited the growth of several human cancer cell lines in a concentration-dependent way.

Pancreatic cancer MIAPaCa-2 cells were highly sensitive to the growth-inhibiting effects of MK615.

Treatment with MK615 preferentially induced cell death in human cancer cells without causing harm to the nearby cells such as human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) and mouse bone marrow cells.

MIAPaCa-2 cells incubated with MK615 in the presence of antioxidants, growth inhibition was significantly reduced.

MK615 induced the accumulation of reactive oxygen species in the exertion of cytotoxicity to the cancer cells but not in HUVEC.

Finally, researchers also found that MK615, in both the presence and absence of gemcitabine, significantly inhibited the growth of human pancreatic cancer cells as xenografts without apparent adverse effects.

The findings suggested that MK615, a supplement produced from Japanese apricot, processes a potential and therapeutic value in treating pancreatic cancers through a reactive oxygen species-dependent mechanism.

The study was published on the National Institutes of Health

Taken altogether, Apricots with abundant bioactive compounds such as oleanolic and ursolic acids may be considered a functional fruit for the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with primary medicine for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

Mineral and Mineral Compounds In the Suppression of the Over Growth of #CandidaAlbicans, Scientists Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Candida albicans are members of a large group of microorganisms whose cells contain complex structures enclosed within the membranes, including yeast(2)(3), fungi(4)(5)(6), and mold(6) that live among the gut flora in the human mouth and gastrointestinal tract.
Non-albicans Candida (NAC) species cause 35-65% of all candidaemias in the general patient population(1).

According to joint study, in many cases, biofilm(microorganisms with cells sticking to each other on a surface) formation(7) gene mutations(8), and overexpression of genes(9)(10) are often associated with increased candida resistance toward antifungal drugs.

ROS species have duo functions that are well documented for playing an important role in our body as both beneficial and deleterious molecules in an expression of cytotoxicity against abnormal cells alternation and initiation of chronic ailments by causing the imbalance of the ratio among antioxidants and free radicals, respectively.

Minerals and mineral compounds, the organic substances are also essential in improved cellulars process, but the amounts required are very small.

Over-expression minerals are toxic to the body's organs and tissue.

In free radical over expression initiated overgrowth candida, as differentiated in the vitamins article, application of the addition of minerals of concentration µM500 µM exerted a significant effect in inhibited DPPH, chemical compound 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl of stable free-radical molecules(a).

The Anti Over Growth of Candida Minerals and mineral compounds
1. Coral Calcium
One of the richest sources of calcium not only an important mineral in building stronger, denser bones early in life and keeping bones strong(248) and healthy later in life and preventing the risk of osteoporosis (249) but also alkalizes the body to eliminate the favored environment for a candida overgrowth(250).

2. Magnesium Citrate
Magnesium Citrate is a magnesium salt of citric acid, a chemical agent used medicinally as a saline laxative(251). Besides it is important to maintain a proper level of pH(252) for the body's organs to enhance their biochemical pathways for detoxification(253), the mineral compound also limits or reduces the overgrowth of candida.

Magnesium Citrate can act as a defecation in stimulating natural bowel movement.

The mineral, magnesium plays a key role in the immune response, by acting as a co-factor for immunoglobulin synthesis(254) that significantly increase for both IgA and IgG, the antibody molecules to protect our body against bacterial and viral infections(255) and the lining of the respiratory passages, gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract(255).

3. Lithium chloride
Lithium chloride is a chemical compound with the formula LiCl. Salt is a typical ionic compound.

While maintaining the proper PH levels(257), lithium also suppresses the yeast phosphoglucomutase activity(256) and inhibits candida albicans filamentation and hyphal outgrowth(258).

4. Sodium bicarbonate
Used as an alkaline treatment(259), sodium bicarbonate is important to balance the levels of PH by taking away the acidity environment for a candida overgrowth(260)(261).

Researchers found that 5% sodium bicarbonate on the adherence of Candida albicans to thermally activated acrylic resin proved to be a viable alternative in the reduction of Candida albicans(262).

5. Phosphonium salts
Phosphonium salts with long alkyl chains (C18) show high levels of antimicrobial activity(263).

Application of alkyl trimethyl phosphonium salts(263) inhibited the bactericidal activity against S. aureus and Escherichia coli by increasing alkyl chain length(263), probably through its antimicrobial polymers(264), according to the joint study by the University of New Brunswick, Southwest Petroleum University, and North China Electric Power University

6. Zinc
Zinc is an important mineral in boosting immune system activity(265)(266).

Its nano-structure zinc(II) coordination compounds have been used in zinc therapy to treat candida overgrowth(267) by promoting metallothionein (MT)(found in high concentration in intestinal mucosa)synthesis(268) through its anti-inflammatory activity(269).
