#YogaExercises Im prove #PsychologicalSymptoms (Depression, Anxiety, Insomnia, pain, and Fatigue) and Adverse Effects on Treatment in Post Cancer Patients

Kyle J. Norton

Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells has grown and multiplied disorderly and uncontrollably in our body. Depending on the grade, aggressive cancer cells might spread to distant tissues and organs in the late stage.
the
Yoga may be used as an integrated form of excise for post-cancer patients in reduced side effects of conventional treatment and improved psychological aspects.

People who participated in yoga classes are likely to experience less or lower levels of anxiety, a renowned study suggested.

Yoga, the accident technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well-being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well-known for people in the Western world and some parts of Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes research and supported by health advocates.

The review of literature conducted by the Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital showed important support for the use of yoga as an evidence-based nursing intervention.

Dr. Sisk A, the lead author said, " Yoga techniques can be easily integrated into nursing practice and have been shown to be beneficial for patients and nurses".

As an integrated therapy, yoga participants showed a significant awareness of breath, relaxation, exercise, and social support in improving the quality of life in patients with cancer.

Yoga practice also is found to assist cancer survivors in managing psychological symptoms such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, pain, and fatigue.

In the study of 38 eligible breast cancer survivors (pre-screened with PAR-Q/PAR-MED-X) randomly assigned to either the intervention (n=20) or control group (n=18) with all participants completed pre- and post-testing assessments immediately before and after the yoga program, respectively, yoga program participants showed a remarkable improvement of psychosocial variables of emotional irritability, gastrointestinal symptoms, cognitive disorganization, mood disturbance, tension, depression, and confusion (all p's <0.10) compared control group.

The study also indicated a significant improvement in post-intervention on a number of physical fitness variables.in both groups.

Collectively, yoga has significant potential in reducing psychological symptoms and side effects of conventional treatment promoted physical fitness and quality of life in post-cancer patients, and may be used as an integrated form of therapy in addition to conventional intervention.

#Herbal #Artichoke Inhibits the Abnormal Expression of Genes Associated with #HepatitisCVirus , Researchers Show

Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a natural remedy for the treatment of hepatitis C infection with no side effects, according to studies.

Hepatitis C infection is an inflammatory liver disease associated with viral hepatitis C. According to the statistic, the viral infection has affected over a million Americans today.

Epidemiological studies suggested that persistent infection with the ofhepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major risk for the development of HCC, the fifth most common cancer, and the third most common cause for cancer death in the world.

Contaminated blood and fluids are the most common causes of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.

Hepatitis C induces liver cancer through many stages including
* The incubation period lasts about 45 days after exposure to the virus.

* Acute hepatitis, the short-term illness may last about 6 months. Most people can get rid of the virus in this stage, particularly those with a strong immune system.

* Chronic hepatitis C if you can not get rid of the virus in the acute stage, the immune system will adapt to the new change, leading to chronic liver inflammation by the hep C virus.

* Cirrhosis, the liver scar, normally is formed due to the progression of the inflammation. Cirrhosis can be developed over a period of 20 years, after initial exposure to the virus.

* Liver cancer, the death of liver cells due to overexpression of liver scars.

Dr. Gremion C, the lead scientist in the attempt to explain the risk hepatitis C and immune system, said, "While a persistent infection is generally associated with a weak CD4+ and CD8+ T cell response during the acute phase, there is no good explanation as to why this response is strong enough in 20% of acutely infected people such that they spontaneously resolve the infection".

The results strongly suggested that if you have a strong immune system, your risk of hepatitis C infection can be resolved naturally.

Artichoke is a perennial thistle of Cynara cardunculus species of the Cynara genus, belonging to the family Carduoideae native to Southern Europe around the Mediterranean.

The herbal plant has been used in traditional medicine as a liver protective and detoxified agent, and to treat digestive disorders, abdominal pain gas and bloating, etc.

Researchers on finding a natural ingredient for the treatment of hepatitis C which presently affects millions of people globally examined the traditional use of Egyptian artichoke (WEA) for the treatment of HCV infection and complications.

Injection of water extract of a WEA plant decreased the HCV viral load below the detection level in 12 out of 15 patients. In other words, artichoke exerted strong anti-HCV infection, depending on the state of the severity of the disease.

Furthermore, the water extract normalized the levels of enzymes associated with liver function and damage.

Moreover, The total WEA extract at IC50 ∼ 20 μg ml(-1), inhibited abnormal expression of genes in patients with hepatitis C infection, involving in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and other lipids (CYP2B6 (OH-BUP)) and the formation and breakdown (metabolism) of various molecules and chemicals within cells (CYP2C19 (5-OH-OME)).

WEA was found to be more effective in inhibiting hepatitis C infection compared to the Hepar SL Forte(®) due to the presence of sesquiterpenes versus the abundance of phenolic compounds of the Hepar SL Forte(®).

In chemicals analysis, grosheimol and cynaropicrin, isolated from the WEA showed the most inhibitory effect against HCV with half-maximal effective concentrations (EC50s) in the low micromolar range.

Both tested compounds inhibited HCV entry into target cells in both cell-free infections and cell-cell transmission.

Both compounds belong to the group of sesquiterpene lactones which are found in the WEA but not in the Hepar SL Forte(®).

The results clearly supported the use of WEA in traditional use for the treatment of liver viral infection and complications.

Taken together, herbal Artichoke may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of HCV infection, pending the confirmation of a larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Phytochemical 3,3'-#Diindolylmethane Shows a Strong Effect on #LiverFibrosis, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Hepatic fibrosis is a condition caused by scars tissues buildup in the liver which limits the function of the liver.
Most cases of hepatic fibrosis are a result of an imbalance of production and dissolution of collagens in the extracellular matrix caused by the overproduction of proinflammatory cytokines in the acute phase of infection or interruption in the stages of healing.

Hepatic fibrosis is an early stage of cirrhosis, a leading cause of liver failure and liver cancer.

Patients with hepatic fibrosis are asymptomatic. However, long-term accumulated of liver scar-induced cirrhosis can cause symptoms of jaundice, variceal bleeding, ascites, a condition of the accumulation of protein-containing fluid within the abdomen, and portosystemic encephalopathy.

According to the statistics provided by Johns Hopkins Medicine, cirrhosis and other chronic liver diseases are common disease-related causes of death in the U.S. Approximately 31,000 people in the U.S. die each year from cirrhosis.

In a hepatitis C virus perspective, approximately 3.5 to 4.6 million people in the U.S. are chronically infected with the virus, leading to the death of 2,000 people annually.

Most cases of the advanced stages of liver fibrosis are treated by liver transplantation. However, according to the University of California in the development of new therapy for the treatment of liver fibrosis, targeting the steps in HSC activation may be a therapeutic target for liver fibrosis.

A list of the targets can be found by clicking the link (2) of the reference area. Please read Fig. 5 Proposed therapies for liver fibrosis.

3,3'-Diindolylmethane or DIM are phytochemicals derived from the digestion of indole-3-carbinol, belonging to the group of Indoles, found abundantly in broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale, etc.

To find a potent natural ingredient for treating hepatic fibrosis with no side effects, scientists evaluated the effects of 3,3'-Diindolylmethane (DIM) on excessive collagen deposition produced by activated hepatic stellate cells (HSCs).

Both the HSC-T6 cell line and primary HSCs included in the study were examined for the expression of α-smooth muscle actin and collagen I, after injection of DIM.

During the experiment, DIM inhibited the expression of miR-21 by deactivating the underlying HSC by suppressing the signaling pathway associated with cell differentiation linked to inflammation and autoimmunity.

Where overexpression of microRNA-21 (miR-21) has been found to play a crucial role in the biological functions and diseases, including development, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and inflammation.

The inhibition of miR-21 overexpression was attributed to the effect of DIM in the modulation of the activity of the transcription factor, AP-1, a transcription factor that plays an essential role in the regulation of gene expression in response to a variety of stimuli, including cytokines, growth factors, stress.

The findings suggested that the DIM in vivo process has the potential in attenuating liver fibrosis induced by thioacetamide, according to the assessment of the collagen deposition and profiles of profibrogenic markers.

Dr. Zhang Z, the lead scientist wrote in the final report, "DIM shows potential as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of hepatic fibrosis".

Taken altogether, 3,3'-Diindolylmethane derived from the digestion of indole-3-carbinol may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of hepatic fibrosis, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of 3,3'-diindolylmethane in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Yoga Reduces Psychological Symptoms and Enhances Pregnancy for Women Waiting for IVF Treatment, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Women, waiting for treatment of IVF programs and participating in yoga lessons may benefit from reduced psychological stress, a recent pilot study proposed.
Vitro Fertilization (IVF), is an induced pregnancy artificial insemination, targeting mostly healthily infertile women with unknown causes of infertility.

Yoga, the accident technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well-being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well-known for people in the Western world and some parts of Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes research and supported by health advocates.

According to McGill University, yoga showed a positive effect in treating anxiety and depression, reducing stress, and improving the overall quality of life in the general population may be considered as a safe exercise and stress-management program for IVF patients.

In fact, returns from participants expressed a strong and positive effect in reduced anxiety, depression, and quality of life over time, in a study of 49 infertile women recruited to participate in a 6-week Yoga class in 2013 while awaiting their IVF treatment asked to complete standardized questionnaires assessing fertility-related quality of life (FertiQoL), marital harmony (Dyadic Adjustment Scale [DAS]), state and trait anxiety (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory [STAI]) and depression (Beck Depression Inventory [BDI]) before commencing and after completing the Yoga workshops,

Furthermore, in support of the efficacy of yoga programs also in women awaiting their treatment with IVF. the study of a total of 143 consecutive women with couple infertility the opportunity to attend a free Hatha-yoga course lasting 3 months offered by the designated institution, displayed an improved significantly higher of symptoms of anxiety, depression, and distress in questionnaire returned from attendees at the end of 3 months in compared non HY group.

More importantly, women who attended yoga classes get pregnant with IVF also found to enhance the stress, anxiety, self confidence during and reduced labor pain.

Dr. Shim CS, the lead author in a quasi experimental study said, "(due to efficacy of yoga program in reduced psychological symptoms and improved quality of life in women who participant in IVF treatment), Yoga-focused educational program be offered to every pregnant woman".

Taking together, Yoga may be considered a form of physical education in reduced psychological symptoms and enhanced pregnancy terms for women waiting for IVF treatment and getting pregnancy after IVF.

#DiallylTrisulfide (DATS) Isolated from #Garlic In The Inhibition of #SkinCancer, Researchers Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Polysulfides isolated from the organosulfides may have a profound effect in reducing the risk and treatment of skin cancer, according to studies.

Skin, a large organ that forms the out layers of our body has serval layers of ectodermal tissue and protects the underlying muscles, bones, ligaments and internal organs against foreign pathogenic invasion.

Skin cancer is a medical conditionn characterized by disordered and irregular cell growth in the skin.

Most cases of primary skin cancer start in the cell on the surface of the inner ling of the skin. At the advanced stage, the cancerous cells can travel a distance away from the skin to infect other healthy tissue and organ through blood and fluid circulation.

There are 3 main types of cells in the top layer of the skin (called the epidermis):
Squamous cells, Basal cells, and Melanocytes.

Long-term cumulative sun exposure is one of the major cause of basal cell and squamous cell skin cancer. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the leading cause of melanoma.

Certain risk factors that make some people susceptible to the development of skin cancer than others, include the increase in age, weakened immune system, gender, skin tone, genetic preposition, and family history.

Some researchers also suggested that the general knowledge about the protection of skin against the onset of skin cancer is lacking, therefore, more education in this field may be necessary before the prevalence of skin cancer can be reduced.

Dr. Lee Wheless, the lead scientist in the concern of the association between skin characteristics and skin cancer prevention behaviors said, "Behaviors such as sunscreen use and wearing sun-protective clothing are thought to prevent certain types of skin cancer and precancerous lesions".

However, "The overall prevalence of prevention behaviors was low. Those with phenotypic risk factors for skin cancer were most likely to use sunscreen and sun-protective clothing. Those with high-risk skin cancer phenotypes may also be those who are most receptive to skin cancer prevention educational interventions".

Polysulfides are phytochemicals in a class of chemical compounds containing chains of sulfur atoms, belonging to the group of Organosulfides found abundantly in the oxidized product, including beer, wine, whiskey, garlic oil, etc.

In the concern of incidence of skin cancer which increases at an alarming rate, researchers at the National Taiwan University evaluated the anti-skin cancer activity of sulfur metabolites in garlic oil.
Diallyl trisulfide (DATS), a member of polysulfides was found to be more potent than mono- and disulfides against skin cancer.

Injection of DATS inhibited cell growth of human melanoma A375 and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) cells by increasing the cytotoxicity of the reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Furthermore, DATS also induced apoptosis of skin cancer cells through inducing the DNA damage and through cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress associated with the cancer cells proliferation and survival, and mitochondria-mediated apoptosis.

These results indicated the importance of DATS in the prevention and treatment of skin cancer by focusing on molecular mechanisms.

Furthermore, in the depth analysis of the effects of Diallyl sulfide (DAS), diallyl disulfide (DADS), and diallyl trisulfide (DATS), extracts from crushed garlic by steam-distillation against human melanoma A375 cells and basal cell carcinoma cells, researchers showed that DATS reveals better growth inhibition of A375 and BCC cells than DADS and DAS do.

Similar to the previous study, DATS increased intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in the induction of cytotoxicity to the tested cancer cell lines.
The cell viability analysis reconfirmed the previous finding that DATS kills tested cancer cells in G(2)/M arrest.

Interestingly, DATS activated the p53 pathway in response to the oxidative DNA damage.
Where p53 is a protein associated with the regulation of the cell cycle and function as a tumor suppression.

Dr. Wang HC, the lead scientist wrote in the final report of the experiment, "DATS also displayed a selective target of growth inhibition between skin cancer cells and normal keratinocyte HaCaT cells".

Taken altogether, Diallyl trisulfide (DATS) a bioactive compound from garlic may be used for the prevention and treatment of skin cancer, pending to reconfirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Yoga Practicing Expressed Benefits in Managing #Epilepsy, Accordong to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Epilepsy is a condition of a neurological disorder caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain inducing the sudden recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance and convulsions.

People with epilepsy who participated in a yoga class may benefit from a reduction in seizure frequency or seizure duration and the overall reduction in seizure frequency, a renowned study suggested.

In the review of literature in the database of the Cochrane Epilepsy Group trial register, the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register (The Cochrane Library Issue 4, 1998), MEDLINE articles published up to the middle of 1998, a study of a total of 32 patients, 10 to Sahaja yoga and 22 to control, showed that
1. 4/10 patients were seizure free for six months compared to none in the control groups
2. In comparison to 1 patient in the nontreatment group, 9/10 yoga participants showed a 50% reduced seizure frequency
3. The yoga group also enjoyed the decline in the average number of attacks per month
4. Yoga participants also showed a 50% reduction in seizure duration.

Other, in a randomized controlled trial with repeated measures (N=18), all participants had an EEG-verified epilepsy diagnosis with drug-refractory seizures randomized into one of two groups: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT or yoga, both ACT and yoga showed significantly reduce seizure index and increase the quality of life over time.

Yoga participants also improved quality of life significantly as compared with the ACT group measured by the Satisfaction with Life Scale.

Additionally, in the total of 300 yoga amongst people living with epilepsy(male:female=173:127; age: 31.6±12.4 years) attending the neurology out-patient services of a neuropsychiatry hospital, 33.7% of the respondents, yoga practicing expressed benefits in managing epilepsy and a willing rate of practiced yoga of 54.8%, according to the pre-tested KAP questionnaire.

Correspondents also opinioned that regular practice of yoga might reduce the dosage of medication (62.8%), their side effects (51.3%) and frequency of seizures (54.5%).

Taking together, yoga may be considered as an integrated form of a potential treatment for epilepsy in reduced symptoms of convulsion and improved quality of life through decreased duration and frequency of seizure.

#Herbal #Chamomile Shows a Significant Effect on#Depression and #Anxiety Disorders in Vivos, Researchers Say

By Kyle J. Norton

Herbal Chamomile may have a potential effect in reducing the risk and treatment of anxiety disorder, according to studies.
Anxiety disorders are a group of mental illnesses characterized by symptoms of excessive anxiety, fear, worry, avoidance, and compulsive rituals. The condition is more common in women than in men.

Some researchers suggested that anxiety disorders are conditions associated with the combination of biological, psychological, and individual factors and the most commonly reported psychiatric conditions and frequently occur as comorbid disorders.

According to the statistic, anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the age of 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.

The exact causes of anxiety disorders are debatable. However, a family history of anxiety recent or prolonged exposure to stress, and excessive consumption of stimulants such as caffeine or tobacco is associated with the onset of the disorders.

The symptoms of anxiety disorders can be psychological or physical, including difficulty concentrating and sleeping, irritability, persistent stomachaches or diarrhea, sweaty palms, shaking, and rapid heartbeat.

If you experience some of the above symptoms, please make sure you check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

Dr. Lykouras L, the lead scientist in the investigation of the connection between body weight and anxiety disorders wrote, "Obesity has been associated with anxiety disorders as follows: most of the studies show a positive relationship with panic disorder, mainly in women, with specific phobia and social phobia" and "Some authors have found a relationship with generalized anxiety disorder but a negative relationship has been also reported".

The results clearly indicated if you are obese, your risk of anxiety disorders is increased substantially compared to normal-weight people.

Chamomile is also known as camomile, the common name of many species of daisy-like plants in the family Asteraceae. The herb has been used in traditional medicine as antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory constituents and for the treatment of menstrual cramps and sleep disorders, reduce cramping and spastic pain in the bowels, relieve excessive gas and bloating in the intestine, etc.

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled efficacy and tolerability trial of Matricaria recutita (Chamomile) extract on generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) showed the effectiveness of modest anxiolytic activity with patients with mild to moderate GAD(1). The University of Ottawa study on the effects of Matricaria recutita (German chamomile) and Humulus lupulus (hops) showed significant activity in the inhibition of GAD at doses of 0.11-0.65 mg/mL(2).

In the study containing 57 participants in the 2009 trial, 19 had anxiety with comorbid depression; 16 had anxiety with a past history of depression, and 22 had anxiety with no current or past depression, chamomile showed a clinically meaningful antidepressant activity to its previously observed anxiolytic activity(3).

Apigenin, a component of Matricaria recutita flowers, in a mice study, exerted its anxiolytic and slight sedative effects through the central benzodiazepine receptors(4).

Researchers at the University Science Center on finding a treatment of anxiety disorder examined the effects of chamomile extract therapy in patients with mild to moderate generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled efficacy and tolerability trial.

In a total of 63 outpatients with mild to moderate GAD enrolled, 57 were randomized to either double-blind chamomile extract (n = 28) or placebo therapy (n = 29) for 8 weeks.

Chamomile treated group exerted a significantly greater reduction in the mean total HAM-A score compared to the placebo.

Furthermore, besides the better primary outcomes, the chamomile group also demonstrated a positive change in all secondary outcomes in the reduction of anxiety symptoms.

Mild and tolerated adverse events or more were not significantly different between groups.

The findings clearly suggested herbal chamomile extract processes a modest anxiolytic activity in patients with mild to moderate GAD.

Moreover, in the evaluation of the chamomile effect on gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) which is a neurotransmitter that blocks impulses between nerve cells in the brain researchers compared the herbal plants which were used in the traditional medicine for the treatment of anxiety disorders.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter has been found to initiate the risk of anxiety or mood disorders in low levels

In vitro rat brain homogenate assays, compared to other herbal plants such as Melissa officinalis, Centella asiatica (Gotu Kola), and Valeriana officinalis (Valerian), chamomile showed significant inhibition of glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) activity (0.11-0.65 mg/mL).

These results strongly suggested that the failure of the interaction of members in the GAGA system caused by dysfunction was attributed to the onset of anxiety disorders.

Additionally, in participants with symptoms of comorbid anxiety and depression, according to the generalized estimating equations analysis to identify clinically meaningful changes over time in scores from the Hamilton Depression Rating (HAM-D) questionnaire among treatment groups, the Chamomile group displays a significantly greater reduction over time in total HAM-D scores compared to placebo.

Also, the HAM-D core mood item scores and application of chamomile also showed a significantly greater reduction over time vs placebo in all participants, regardless of the current or past depression.

Taken altogether, herbal chamomile may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention of anxiety disorders in higher-risk populations and combined with primary medicine for the treatment of anxiety diseases with tolerated adverse effects.
