#Yoga Improves All Aspects Associated with Heart Failure Patients, Researchers Suggest

By Kyle J. Norton

Yoga may be considered an integrated form of exercise in improved cardiovascular endurance, inflammatory expression, flexibility, and quality of life of heart failure patients, some scientists postulated.
Heart failure is a medical condition characterized by insufficient to maintain blood flow to meet the body's needs, inducing symptoms of shortness of breath, excessive tiredness, and leg swelling.....

Yoga, the ancient technique practice for harmonizing external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been best known to people in the Western world and some parts of Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In a study of 130 heart failure patients recruited, 65 patients were randomly selected to receive 12-week yoga therapy along with standard medical therapy (yoga group). Other patients (n=65) received only standard medical therapy (control group), and researchers showed that
* Yoga group expressed an enormous improvement in a decrease in heart rate, blood pressure, and rate pressure product (RPP) compared to the control group.

* All heart rate ratios and variability were improved compared to the control

Dr. Krishna BH, the lead author said, "Twelve-week yoga therapy significantly improved the parasympathetic activity and decreased the sympathetic activity in heart failure patients."

Truly, yoga mindfulness induced relaxation of the central nervous system in the inhibited production of stress hormones in facilitated production of inflammatory makers through interaction between immune cells-particularly macrophages and lymphocytes, one of a number of markers involved in heart failure disease progression.

Chronic psychological stress is found to have a strong negative influence on heart failure patients as a result of losing the ability to regulate the inflammatory response.

Also, yoga's slow breathing and meditation-induced relaxation of the central nervous system in stimulated the production of nitric oxide NO through an expression of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in relaxed the vessel muscles and heart muscles in regulation dilation and reduced stress hormone in overproduction of prostaglandins E2 in activated muscle constriction, plus improving in heart rate, blood pressure and rate pressure product (RPP).

Furthermore, yoga-selected postures were found not only to improve flexibility but also enhance the functioning lung in optimized oxygen demand of the heart through a circulatory system controlled by homeostatic mechanisms without inducing work overload to the heart, thus increasing peak exercise capacity (peakVO2) in patients with heart failure.

These results suggested that yoga intervention exerted a significant effect on improved cardiovascular endurance in all aspects.

Moreover, yoga mindfulness reconnected and re-balanced the mind and body by bringing back the presence while dealing with a profound and effective way that leads to actively engaging in a healthy diet and change of lifestyle in participating improvement in functional capacity.

These findings suggested that yoga, as an integrated exercise, has a direct impact on enhancing health and quality of life in patients with heart failure.

The result of the above was supported by the randomized controlled trials, in the review of the literature published on MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Excerpta Medica database, LILACS, Physiotherapy Evidence Database, together with the Scientific Electronic Library Online, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health up to December 2013.

According to the study, compared to the control, researchers indicated that
* Yoga group displayed a significant and positive impact on peak exercise capacity (peakVO2) and quality-of-life (HRQOL)
*Yoga participants also showed an improvement in Weighted mean differences (WMD) (some of the studies make a greater contribution to the average than others and global HRQOL standardized mean differences).
In clarification of the efficacy in treatment for CHF, Dr. Gomes-Neto M, the lead author said, "Yoga enhances peak VO2 and HRQOL in patients with CHF and could be considered for inclusion in cardiac rehabilitation programs".

And, the study of 40 patients (38 AA, 1 Asian, and 1 Caucasian) with systolic or diastolic HF randomized to the yoga group (YG, n = 21) or the control group (CG, n = 19) with all patients followed a home walk program, suggested that yoga group demonstrated a significant improvement of all tested aspects, such as for flexibility (P = 0.012), treadmill time (P = 0.002), VO2peak (P = 0.003), and the biomarkers (IL-6, P = 0.004; CRP, P = 0.016; and EC-SOD, P = 0.012) compared to control
Taking all together, Yoga therapy may offer additional benefits to the standard medical care of patients with HF by improving cardiovascular endurance, inflammatory markers, flexibility, and quality of life.

#Coffee Exerts Neuroprotective Effects by Inhibiting the Overexpression of Oxidative Stress, Researchers Say

By Kyle J. Norton

Intake of coffee daily may have a strong impact on reduced risk and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, a renowned institute study suggested
Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roast beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In a rat study to investigate the effect of eicosanoyl-5-hydroxytryptamide(EHT) isolated from coffee against the MPTP model of PD with rats fed a diet containing EHT for four weeks exhibited dose-dependent preservation compared to animals given control feed, researchers found that
1. Mice fed with EHT exhibited decreased protein aggregation and phosphorylation and improved neuronal integrity and reduced neuroinflammation.

2. The levels of degeneration of dopaminergic neurons(striatal dopamine (DA)) and tyrosine hydroxylase depletion, in the biosynthesis of DA are also lower in fed rats, compared to the control.

3. Fed rats also displayed lower indices of oxidative stress and JNK activation in reduced neuron cell apoptosis.

Dr. V, the led author said, " neuroprotective effect of EHT against MPTP(induced PD) is through several mechanisms including its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities as well as its ability to modulate the methylation and hence the activity of (phosphoprotein phosphatase 2A) PP2A(related to AD development)".

Another study suggested that coffee with its chemical compound cytoprotective transcription factor Nrf2 in the activation of the expression of antioxidant proteins is the ingredient in induced neuroprotective in fly PD models as shown in Drosophila models of Alzheimer's disease and polyglutamine disease, through coffee (regardless to caffeinated or decaffeinated)

Dr. Trinh K, the lead author said, "Coffee...... contains Nrf2-activating compounds that may account for the reduced risk of PD among coffee ....users. These compounds represent attractive candidates for therapeutic intervention in PD and perhaps other neurodegenerative diseases".

More importantly, in the study of the effect of different types of coffee against risk neurodegenerative diseases, researchers at Kraft Foods Research & Nutrition showed that

1. All regular and decaffeinated samples of both roasted and green coffee showed high hydrophilic antioxidant activity in vitro,

2. In neuronal cell cultures, pretreatment with green and roasted coffees (regular and decaffeinated) protected against the expression of oxidative stress.

3. Roasted coffee regardless of caffeine content, exerted much higher protection of cell survival of 203% in compared to 78% of green coffee.

4. Only roasted coffee expressed a significant activity in inhibited neuron cell apoptosis.

Further observation, also indicated that coffee phenolic compounds in roasted coffees demonstrated high levels of chlorogenic acid lactones (CGLs) which have been found to induce neuroprotective efficacy through other studies.

Taking it all together, there is no doubt that roasted coffee intake, regardless of caffeinated content, displayed a significant effect in attenuating the risk and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

#CurcumaOil Isolated from #Turmeric Inhibits Parameters Associated with the Onset of Diabetes, Researchers Say

By Kyle J. Norton

Insulin resistance is a condition that the signals sent out by the hormone insulin were ignored by the cells in your muscles, body fat, and liver.

In other words, the cells in the body no longer respond to the insulin produced by the body to convert glucose into energy, leading to high levels of glucose in the bloodstream.

The condition can induce more and more production of insulin hormone. Over time, the syndrome can cause overwork of the beta cells in the pancreas that no longer keep up with the demand for insulin, leading to the onset of diabetes.

Insulin resistance is a hallmark of type II diabetes, accompanied by the hallmark of hyperglycemia.

The causes of insulin resistance may be associated with beta-cell gradually died off or insulin receptor sites clogged up with fat and cholesterol.

According to the statistics, approximately, one in three Americans are living with insulin resistance, including half of those age 60 and older.

The exact causes of insulin resistance are unidentified. Aging and ethnicity, excess body weight, too much fat on the belly, physical inactivity, and smoking are some prevalent factors of the condition.

Some researchers suggested the promotion of the Western diet over the past few decades may be the culprit for the widespread insulin resistance in the West.

Dr. Merat S, the lead scientist at the University of California San Diego said, "The Western diets commonly used in LDLR-/- mice may not only induce atherosclerosis but also IR, potentially complicating the interpretation of results".

And, "LDLR-/- mice may be used as models to elucidate the effect of IR on atherosclerosis, eg, by feeding them Western diets with or without insulin-sensitizing agents".

The results strongly suggested if you follow the Western diet pattern, you are at a higher risk of insulin resistance compared to people who follow the traditional diet.

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as an anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and to treat flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.
Researchers on finding a potential compound for the prevention and treatment of insulin resistance (IR) evaluated the effect of Curcuma oil (C. oil) isolated from turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) in animal models of diet-induced insulin resistance.

The study included
* Male Golden Syrian hamsters on high fructose diet (HFr) for 12 wk were treated orally with the vehicle, fenofibrate (30 mg/kg), or C. oil (300 mg/kg) for four weeks.

* Wistar rats fed HFr for 12 wk treated orally with C. oil (300 mg/kg) for two weeks.

During the experiment, researchers found that before injection of C. oil, animals fed with HFr diet for 12 wk demonstrated hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, alteration of insulin sensitivity accompanied by symptoms associated with patients with insulin resistance such as increased lipid peroxidation, inflammation, endothelial dysfunction.

Injection of C. oil for 4 weeks in hamster ameliorated HFr-induced hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, oxidative stress, inflammation, endothelial dysfunction.

The effect of C. oil at 300 mg/kg [ ] was comparable with the standard drug fenofibrate.

Rats treated with C. oils for 4 weeks also showed statistical significance in the amelioration of HFr-induced hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia by modulating the expression of the genes involved in lipid and glucose metabolism.

Dr. Singh V the lead scientist wrote in the final report, "High fructose feeding to rats and hamsters led to the development of insulin resistance, hyperglycemia,.....and oxidative stress. C. oil prevented the development of thrombotic complications associated with insulin resistance perhaps by modulating genes involved in lipid and glucose metabolism".

Taken altogether, Curcuma oil (C. oil) isolated from turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of insulin resistance, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Intake of #Tomatoes Are Associated with a Reduced Risk of #ProstateCancer, Clinical Trials Show

By Kyle J. Norton

Prostate cancer is a medical condition caused by irregular cell growth in the tissues of the prostate.
The prostate is a male reproductive gland that plays a critical role in the contribution of nutrients and fluid to sperm.

Most cases of prostate cancer start in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the prostate tissue before penetrating into deeper prostate gland layers to induce metastasis via blood and lymph.

At the early stage, due to the very small size of the tumor, prostate cancer is asymptomatic.

The most common symptoms of the prostate at the later stage are frequent urination, and weak or interrupted urine flow due to the tumor that affects the tube surrounded by the prostate.

In some cases, patients may experience symptoms of blood in the urine and pain due to the oversize tumor that has pressed on the nearby blood vessels and nerve cells.

The new onset of erectile dysfunction is also common in patients with prostate cancer.

The causes of prostate cancer are not identified. However, the increase in aging is one of the most common risk factors as most cases of the condition are diagnosed in older adults. Approximately, 60% of all cases are diagnosed in men over 65.c

According to the statistics, in 2017, 21,300 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer, and the disease caused the death of 4,100 men in the same year.

The 5-year survival rate for most men with local or regional prostate cancer is nearly 100% compared to only 30% in patients diagnosed with prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body,

Some researchers in the concern that the risk of prostate cancer in the younger population suggested that the promotion of a high-fat diet over the past few decades may be correlated to the rise of the disease.

Dr. Colleen Pelser, the lead scientist wrote, "Total fat and mono- and polyunsaturated fat INTAKES were not associated with the incidence of prostate cancer. Saturated fat intake was related to increased risk of advanced prostate cancer (HRQuintile 5 vs. Quintile 1 (Q1 vs. Q5)1.21; 95% CI 1.00–1.46; p-for-trend=0.03) and fatal prostate cancer".

And. "Our study suggests that the associations of fat and fatty acids differ by prostate cancer severity. Saturated fat, ALA, and EPA intakes were related to the risk of advanced or fatal prostate cancer, but not to non-advanced prostate cancer".

The results strongly suggested that if you are a high-fat diet follower, your risk of prostate cancer is increased substantially compared to a traditional diet.

Tomato is red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belongings to the family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.

In the urgency to find a natural compound for the treatment of prostate cancer, researchers investigated the effects of lycopene-rich tomato on prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in prostate cancer patients.

The study included 79 patients with prostate cancer randomized to a nutritional intervention with either 1) tomato products containing 30 mg lycopene per day; 2) tomato products plus selenium, omega-3 fatty acids, soy isoflavones, grape/pomegranate juice, and green/black tea (tomato-plus); or 3) control diet for 3 weeks.

According to the results of the test, the tomato group showed a significant PSA decrease compared to controls.

Compared to other groups, median PSA values decreased by 1% in patients with the highest increases in plasma lycopene, selenium, and C20:5 n-3 fatty acid, compared to an 8.5% increase in the patients with the lowest increase in lycopene, selenium, and C20:5 n-3 fatty acid.

In other words, PSA decreased the most in patients with the highest increase in lycopene alone.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "Three-week nutritional interventions with tomato products alone or in combination with selenium and n-3 fatty acids lower PSA in patients with non-metastatic prostate cancer".

Moreover, in the investigation of the association between tomato consumption and prostate cancer risk, researchers at Zhejiang University performed a meta-analysis to comprehensively evaluate this relationship.

Geographically, tomato intake showed significant protective effects in patients of Asian origin and Oceania populations compared to other regions.

According to the total of 24 published studies with 15,099 cases, tomato intake was associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer with the RRs of 0.76 found in the case-control and cohort studies.

Taken altogether, tomatoes may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of lycopene in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Coffee Reduces the Risk of #RespiratoryDiseases But Increases the Risk of Chronic Airflow Obstruction (COPD), and Bronchial Cancer, According to Studies

By Kyle J. Norton

Intake of coffee and coffee caffeine may have a potential effect in reducing the risk and progression of respiratory disease, a renowned university study suggested.
Coffee, becoming a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roast beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Respiratory disease is a class of diseases involving abnormal lung function including conditions of the upper trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli, pleura, and pleural cavity,...

In a review of 15 studies, including seven cohorts, six cross-sectionals, one case-control, and one randomized control trial, researchers at the joint study led by the University of Coimbra, filed the below interesting results
1. The risk of asthma was reduced in the coffee injection group.
2. Coffee accompanied with honey displayed a positive effect in treatment for persistent post-infectious cough.
3. In a controlled study, the higher risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) prevalence was associated with coffee consumption.4. Coffee was also found to associate with lower respiratory mortality.
5. Coffee injection group also benefits to improved lung function
6. Smoking was a significant risk factor in all cases.

With all the information collected, Dr. Alfaro TM, the lead author proposed, "Coffee consumption was associated with some positive effects on the respiratory system" and "Coffee consumption may be a part of a healthy lifestyle leading to reduced respiratory morbidity."

Other, in the study filed by the CHU de Nancy, coffee consumption showed a contradictory effect involving respiratory diseases.
1. Coffee intake showed a beneficial effect on bronchospasm.
2. But in other studies, coffee intake has been suspected of contributing to the development of chronic airflow obstruction (COPD) and bronchial cancer.

The study explained these contrastive results may be attributed to the causal relationship in indirectly linking a strong positive correlation between the consumption of coffee and the use of tobacco.

The author also warned that coffee taken in large quantities by pregnant women may increase the risk of neonatal apnoea in the newborn if abrupt cessation in the caffeine level.

Also in the comparison of prenatal exposure to acetaminophen and coffee with childhood asthma, researchers found that intake of coffee during pregnancy showed a strong effect in reduced risk of childhood asthma, according to the 63,652 live-born singletons enrolled in the Danish National Birth Cohort.

Taking together, coffee intake has strong protection against respiratory diseases(including reduced risk of childhood asthma), but increased incidences of chronic airflow obstruction (COPD), and bronchial cancer, therefore, people with the above exceptive disease should reduce their intake of coffee and consult with their doctors.

#GreenTea's #EGCG Induces Apoptosis and Cell Cycle Arrest of #OvarianCancer Cells, Researchers Suggest

By Kyle J. Norton

Ovarian cancer is a medical condition characterized by cell growth disorderly in the ovaries. At the late stage, cancerous cells may infect tissues and organs far away from the originated site.

The analysis of the EGCG effects on 8 ovarian cancer cell lines (SKOV3, CAOV3, OVCAR3, OVCAR10, A2780, CP70, C30, and C200) showed IC50s for EGCG at the micromolar range, researchers found that EGCG inhibited all ovarian cancer cell lines in dose depending manner.

Normal dose application of EGCG displayed a significant increase of antioxidants in reduced ROS overexpression of oxidative stress in inhibited ovarian cancer through cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase.

Further differentiation also revealed that administration of EGCG at a common dose not only demonstrated a 6-fold increase of cisplatin potency for the treatment of SKOV3, CAOV3, and C200 cells but also attenuated the chemo drug toxicity.

However, the effect of EGCG on the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was biphasic.
The phytochemical was shown to induce and decrease ROS formation in different doses.

Therefore, a higher dose of EGCG promoted overexpression of antioxidants in reduced oxidative stress may amplify the toxicity in ameliorated human cancer cells proliferation and induced apoptosis.

Dr., the lead author said, "EGCG may accentuate oxidative stress to inhibit the growth of ovarian cancer cells and sensitize them to cisplatin".

Other researchers in the study of the toxicity of EGCG suggested that green tea catechin, (-)-epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate (EGCG) as a potent adjuvant to enhance the anti-tumor efficacy of cisplatin while mitigating its harmful side effects through various mechanisms.

Application of EGCG showed to promote hyaluronic acid function in the regulation of normal cell division and prevention of the acid in the initiation of cancerous cell proliferation.

Hyaluronic acid, a polysaccharide molecule, plays an important role in cell proliferation and migration and may involve in the progression of some malignant tumors.

Additionally, EGCG also expressed the anti-cancer effect by promoting the injection of chemo medicine cisplatin into the CD44-overexpressing cancer cells to prevent the overgrowth of tumor cells.

In regard to toxicity, EGCG, on one hand, reduced overexpression of oxidative stress in initiated toxicity against off-target organs and tissues through induction of significant antioxidant activity on the hand and stimulated the function of toxicity originating from cisplatin into the target tumors on the other.

Further analysis, green tea catechin-based micellar nano complexes also inhibited superiorly against tumor growth with no injection of cisplatin and expressed a significant inhibition without induced toxicity in both cancer cells suspended in culture medium and injected into the animal models and peritoneal metastatic model of human ovarian cancer.

In other words, green tea catechin-based micellar nano complexes may be considered safe and effective cisplatin nanomedicine for ovarian cancer treatment.

More interestingly, additionally examined the effect of EGCG in suppressing ovarian cancer cell growth in 3 human ovarian cancer cell lines (p53 negative, SKOV-3 cells; mutant type p53, OVCAR-3 cells; and wild type p53, PA-1 cells),

EGCG decreased tumor growth in each cell line in a dose-dependent fashion and induced apoptosis and cell cycle arrest, particularly in the G(1) phase in SKOV-3 and OVCAR-3 cells compared to G(1)/S transition phase arrest in PA-1 cells.

The chemical also differentiate and upregulated the expression of genes and proteins in promoted cancer cell arrest, suppressed tumor growth, and induced cell death (Bax, p21, Retinoblastoma, cyclin D1, CDK4, Bcl-X(L)) by more than 2-fold

Taking it all together, green tea may have a profound effect on reduced risk and treatment of ovarian cancer through the expression of phytochemical EGCG. However, the intake of green tea extract must be taken with care, as overdoses were found to induce liver toxicity.

#Coffee Prevents #Oxidativestress-Related Disorder through its Antioxidant Activities, Scientists Say

By Kyle J. Norton

Coffee may be used as a functional food in improved antioxidant status in reduced risk of oxidative stress, irregular cell growth, and reactive oxygen species cause various types of disease, a joint study by a renowned university study suggested.
An antioxidant is a type of chemical compound that inhibited free radicals to protect the body against oxidative damage.
Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roast beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

According to the University of British Columbia, Coffee expressed numerous capacities as free radical scavengers in balancing hydrogen and electrons, acted as metal ion pro-oxidant chelators and triggered antioxidant gene expression, and protected against gastrointestinal oxidative stress......

In vitro, according to cell-free and cell-based assays, coffee intake demonstrated antioxidant capacity through its bioactive constituents. And in cellular levels, coffee components exhibited antioxidant activity to specific genomic events through antioxidant function in both animals and humans.

Furthermore, the Antioxidant Capacity of Coffee study suggested that coffee intake showed a potential effect in reduced free radical damage against artery-clogging atherosclerosis and health problems like vision loss, cancer, or chronic diseases, through bioactive phytochemicals in the expression of antioxidants.

The lower antioxidant status also displayed cellular damage, especially in people with low consumption of vegetables...and coffee.

Interestingly, in the evaluated polyphenol content and antioxidant capacity of widely consumed beverages such as chamomile tea, yerba mate, a coffee blend (65% roasted:35% green), and coffee-like substitutes, researchers at the Institute of Food Science found that coffee showed an average polyphenol recovery of 78%. after gastrointestinal digestion, in vitro.

Compared to Yerba mate, coffee demonstrated a similar phenolic composition, but more stable polyphenols displaying.

Dr.Baeza G, the lead author said, " Regular consumption of the studied beverages provides considerable amounts of antioxidants which are relatively stable after simulated digestion, and thus have the potential to prevent oxidative stress-related disorder".

The finding evidence suggested that coffee may be considered a functional food with an increased antioxidant profile, through bioactive constituent's activities against diseases caused by overexpression of reactive oxygen species(RSO).
