Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic medical condition that affects the nerve cells associated with the production of dopamine in the brain, leading to muscle rigidity, tremors, and changes in speech and gait.
In other words, Parkinson's disease is a progressive central nervous system disorder that affects neurons in transmitting messages in controlling movement.
Some patients in the very early stage of PD may not experience any symptoms. However, Parkinson's disease symptoms gradually worsen as the condition progresses.
Researchers do not know why the neurons in the brain in some people are susceptible to gradually breaking down or dying while others do not even if they have similar health conditions and are from the same family.
However, they do know, according to the epidemiological study, aging, gender, long-term exposure to certain toxic chemicals and genetic deposition are some of the risk factors found in patients with PD.
Please note that most people who process some of the conditions have never developed Parkinson's disease.
Some researchers in the examination of the dietary habits in different parts of the world suggested that people who drink caffeine found in coffee, tea, and cola are less likely to get Parkinson's disease compared to those who don't.
Dr. Prediger RD at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina wrote, "Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder affecting approximately 1% of the population older than 60 years".
And, "The available data also suggest that caffeine can improve the motor deficits of PD and that adenosine A2A receptor antagonists such as istradefylline reduces OFF time and dyskinesia associated with standard 'dopamine replacement' treatments".
The results strongly suggested if you drink caffeinated beverages, your risk of PD is decreased substantially.
Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrub in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.
The plant has been used as herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, psoriasis, diabetes, etc.
With an aim to find a natural ingredient that processes neuroprotective effects against Parkinson's disease, researchers examined the Anthocyanin-rich preparations of Vaccinium species, including bilberry against the oxidative damage in dopaminergic neurons.
V. myrtillus preparation: 50% inhibition with 7 microM of total anthocyanins showed a significant neuron protection activity by inhibiting oxidation caused by the chain reaction of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
The application was found to be 1.5-4 times higher than that for the other preparations or for the purified anthocyanin.
According to the analysis of the chemical constituents, the neuroprotective effects were attributed to the presence of bioactive compounds anthocyanins and total cyanidins found abundantly in bilberry, but not quercetin or myricetin.
The results suggested that the high potency of anthocyanins processes a potentially neurotoxic reaction against the onset of Parkinson's disease.
Dr. Yao Y, the lead scientist wrote, "(the findings) provide a basis for in vivo testing of these flavonoids and their physiological metabolites in the context of neuro- and mitochondrial-protective effects".
Taken altogether, bilberry-processed abundantly bioactive compound anthocyanin may be considered a functioning remedy for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, pending the validation of a larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Coffee Intake Daily Reduces the Risk of Chronic Liver Diseases, Researchers Show

Good news for coffee lovers, intake of coffee daily and regularly showed to express a positive effect in reduced risk and progression of chronic hepatitis. a renowned institute joint study suggested.
Coffee, second to green tea, is a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the made from roasted beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.
Chronic hepatitis is a condition of liver inflammation caused by hepatitis B and C viruses and certain drugs, lasting at least 6 months.
According to the joint study led by the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine, intake of coffee and coffee caffeine modestly may have a profound effect in protection against advanced hepatic fibrosis caused by a viral infection in men with chronic HCV infection.
In the study of 910 patients with chronic HCV infection, 98% male and 38% with advanced hepatic fibrosis with a daily intake of caffeinated coffee higher among controls than patients with advanced fibrosis, researchers filed the following results
1. Coffee was one of the most caffeine injected by participants in the control group.
2. Consumed 100 mg or more of caffeine daily from all sources was found in more participants on a higher percentage of controls (66.0%) group in compared to patients with advanced fibrosis group.
3. Daily intake of 100 mg or more of caffeine also expressed significant hepatoprotective effects in controls.
These findings suggested that caffeine, a major chemical compound may play an important role in reduced risk of chronic hepatitis substantially in compared to noncaffeinated drinkers.
In further support of coffee intake in attenuated risk of the progression of chronic liver diseases (NASH, viral hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma)..., Dr. Szántová M and colleagues in the review of experimental, clinical, and large population studies found that coffee consumption showed significant hepatoprotective activities through decreasing mortality, improved antioxidant, antifibrotic, insulin-sensitizing and anticarcinogenic expression. And the key protective components involved in this protection may include Chlorogenic acids, diterpenes (cafestol, kahweol), caffeine, polyphenols, and melanoidin's.
More importantly, Dr. Szántová M,, the lead author said,"(The liver protective activity of coffee against chronic hepatitis may be attributed to action in)modulation of gene expression of key enzymes of fatty acid synthesis, modulation of mRNA included in autophagia, reduction of stress of endoplasmatic reticulum together with the decrease of proinflammatory cytokines and decrease of fibrogenesis are main mechanisms" and " Coffee is a non-pharmacological tool of primary and secondary prevention of chronic liver diseases".
Promisingly, the University of Naples "Federico II, in the study of the relationship between coffee and liver health, indicated that coffee consumption not only showed an inversely associated with the activity of liver enzymes in subjects at risk, including heavy drinkers but also inhibited hepatic steatosis and fibrosis, ...cirrhosis and the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma".
Taking together, there is no doubt that intake of coffee daily and regularly regardless of the number of cups, expressed a significant effect in reduced risk and treatment of chronic liver disease, particularly in chronic hepatitis.

Dermatitis is a condition of irritation of the skin characterized by symptoms of red, swollen, and sore, sometimes with small blisters on the skin.
Coffee, becoming a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.
The animal study with a skin of C57BL/6j male mice irradiated with UVB (1.0 kJ/m2/day) for 3 days and 5 days after the final session of UVB irradiation with oral administration of coffee at of CA (100 mg/day) or CGA (100 mg/day), 2 major chemical compounds isolated from roasted coffee in the separated group for the 8 days, suggested that group treated with caffeic acid (CA) showed a significant effect on the inhibition of dermatitis in compared to chlorogenic acid (CGA) group.
In fact, the efficacy of coffee caffeine acid in protecting the skin against irritation was attributed to the influence of the chemical compound in a protein related to skin inflammation, namely, the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway.
Other, in the examined hypothesis of 9763 adults 19 years or older using the 2012-2013 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey of 4 dietary patterns including fermented foods using principal component analysis on data obtained from a 116-item validated semiquantitative food, after analyzing the returned frequency questionnaires researchers showed that coffee intake displayed a significantly reduced risk of atopic dermatitis.
Together with chocolate, and ice cream, the relative risk odd ratio was 0.53 compared to other groups observed in the study.
Further to support the result of coffee intake in decreased risk of skin irritation, the Chinese study postulated that coffee intake, the beverage intake of the population of 17,497 adults in the 2009-2011 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) expressed a significantly profound effect in reduced dermatitis prevalence, after adjusting for potential confounders with the incorporation of sample weights for the complex sample design.
Taking together, one can certainly mention that coffee and coffee caffeine intake, regardless of amount have therapeutic effects in ameliorated risk and treatment of dermatitis.

Coffee and coffee caffeine may have a profound effect on reduced risk and treatment of oral cancer, a renowned cancer society study suggested.
Oral cancer is a medical condition characterized by cell growth disorderly and irregularly in the mouth region, including the lips, tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, hard and soft palate, sinuses, and pharynx. At the later stage, infectious cells may travel a distance away from the original site to other tissues and organs.
Coffee, second to green tea is one most popular and social beverages all over the world, particularly in the West, made from roasted beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.
In a prospective US cohort study begun in 1982 by the American Cancer Society, including 968,432 men and women with cancer-free at enrollment, 868 deaths due to oral/pharyngeal cancer occurred during 26 years of follow-up, researchers file the following results, without modifying other factors such as sex, smoking status, or alcohol use.
1. Compared to no/occasional drinkers, patients drinking more than 4 cups of caffeine coffee per day showed a risk of oral/pharyngeal cancer death reduced by 49% with a relative risk of cancer developing of .51.
2. Also, compared to the no and occasional groups, patients drinking more than 4 cups of coffee per day had a relative risk ratio of .61.
According to the Epidemiology Research Program, American Cancer Society, intake of caffeinated coffee showed a significant inverse association in reduced risk and motility of oral/pharyngeal cancer, linearly in dose depending manner.
Additionally, in data extracted from the Miyagi Cohort Study in Japan, including 38,679 subjects aged 40-64 years with no previous history of cancer, 157 cases of oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal cancers identified during 13.6 years of follow-up, returned food frequency questionnaires from participants expressed the results as follow
1. Patients who consumed > or =1 cup of coffee per day had a relative risk ratio of .51 in compared to the drinkers. group.
2. Intake of caffeine, and coffee showed an inverse association with cancer incidence, regardless of sex and cancer site.
More interestingly, the study also emphasized that the risk of cancer is reduced in caffeine coffee consumption, even with people who have been identified with a high risk of cancer developing.
Dr. said, 'Hazard ratios were estimated by the Cox proportional hazards regression model. The risk of oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal cancers was inversely associated with coffee consumption".
More importantly, in support of the above analysis, the study on cases of esophageal cancer(395) is compared to 1066 cases of controls conducted by the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche "Mario Negri" proposed that the same relative risk of 0.6 in both oral/pharyngeal, and esophageal cancer also found in subjects, drinking over >3 cups/ day. And there was no association between caffeine coffee in the expression of reduced risk of cancers.
Taking altogether. coffee and coffee caffeine has the potential used as a functional and therapeutic product in reduced risk and treatment of oral cancer. But Dr. Hildebrand JS, the lead author said, "Research is needed to elucidate biologic mechanisms whereby coffee might help to protect against these often fatal cancers.".

Coffee and coffee caffeine may have a profound effect on reduced risk and treatment of oral cancer, a renowned cancer society study suggested.

1. Compared to no/occasional drinkers, patients drinking more than 4 cups of caffeine coffee per day showed a risk of oral/pharyngeal cancer death reduced by 49% with a relative risk of cancer developing of .51.
2. Also, compared to the no and occasional groups, patients drinking more than 4 cups of coffee per day had a relative risk ratio of .61.
According to the Epidemiology Research Program, American Cancer Society, intake of caffeinated coffee showed a significant inverse association in reduced risk and motility of oral/pharyngeal cancer, linearly in dose depending manner.
Additionally, in data extracted from the Miyagi Cohort Study in Japan, including 38,679 subjects aged 40-64 years with no previous history of cancer, 157 cases of oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal cancers identified during 13.6 years of follow-up, returned food frequency questionnaires from participants expressed the results as follow
1. Patients who consumed > or =1 cup of coffee per day had a relative risk ratio of .51 in compared to the drinkers. group.
2. Intake of caffeine, and coffee showed an inverse association with cancer incidence, regardless of sex and cancer site.
More interestingly, the study also emphasized that the risk of cancer is reduced in caffeine coffee consumption, even with people who have been identified with a high risk of cancer developing.
Dr. said, 'Hazard ratios were estimated by the Cox proportional hazards regression model. The risk of oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal cancers was inversely associated with coffee consumption".
More importantly, in support of the above analysis, the study on cases of esophageal cancer(395) is compared to 1066 cases of controls conducted by the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche "Mario Negri" proposed that the same relative risk of 0.6 in both oral/pharyngeal, and esophageal cancer also found in subjects, drinking over >3 cups/ day. And there was no association between caffeine coffee in the expression of reduced risk of cancers.
Taking altogether. coffee and coffee caffeine has the potential used as a functional and therapeutic product in reduced risk and treatment of oral cancer. But Dr. Hildebrand JS, the lead author said, "Research is needed to elucidate biologic mechanisms whereby coffee might help to protect against these often fatal cancers.".

According to the tested assay,
* The mean value of Lequesne's Algofunctional Index (LFI) decreased from 13.0 to 9.4 in the ERC group and from 12.5 to 9.4 in the diclofenac group.
* Non-inferiority of ERC was demonstrated by both primary criteria, LFI (MW = 0.5305; CI-LB = 0.4171) and complaint index (MW = 0.5434; CI-LB = 0.4296).
Where LFI is a measurement of the severity of osteoarthritis.
* ERC also showed a superior improvement in secondary efficacy criteria, compared to diclofenac
* The global judgment of efficacy by physicians resulted in at least good ratings for 51.4% of the ERC patients, and for 37.2% of the diclofenac patients.
Furthermore, the majority of patients rate the tolerability in both drug groups as very good or good.
Based on the finding, researchers wrote, " ERC can be considered as an effective and safe alternative to NSAIDs such as diclofenac in the treatment of painful episodes of OA of the knee".
Taken altogether, bromelain used alone or combined with conventional medicine may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of osteoarthritis, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
