#Greentea Processes Anti-#SkinAging Activities Through Their Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Effects, Scientists Find

By Kyle J. Norton

Although no one can avoid aging, the process can be slowed down. Some scientists suggested that green tea may have a potential and positive effect in delaying the process through its anti-aging phytochemicals.

The investigation of green tea properties in anti-aging effects was found to associate many different mechanisms involved in the expression of some significant polyphenols.

According to the investigation of the experiment of 45 male mice model divided into 5 groups induced aging through injection of d-galactose in 8 weeks in compared to positive control fed with Vitamin C (VitC), mice treated with green tea, bioactive Epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG) once a day by subcutaneously inject after 5h of injecting d-galactose exerted an antioxidant effect in improved overall skin condition and the whole structure of the skin in compared to positive control at the end of the study.

Further analysis also found that the chemical constituents of green tea inhibited the overproduction of oxidative stress caused by the injection of d-galactose through neutralized ROS insults to maintain good dermal health.

Interestingly, compared to control, green tea EGCG also increased the expression of epidermal growth factor in stimulated skin growth at the cellular level and increase collagen production in protecting skin against aging senility.

Moreover, the evaluated characteristics of human skin and how photo-aging (extrinsic aging) occurs via the impact of ROS production by cascade signaling pathways indicated that the administration of green tea extracts (GTEs) protects the effect of aging skin through inhibited cutaneous erythema induced of redness of the skin, thickening of the epidermis involved overexpression of CK5/6 in promoted cutaneous neoplasms, new and abnormal growth of skin tissue and cytokeratin(CK16) in the induction of expression in abnormal skin epithelial patterns.

Indeed, the expression green tea also showed a strong implication in reduced matrix metalloproteinases 2-9 (MMP-2, MMP-9) activities in elevated skin changes and depletion of CD1a(+) LCs in the induction of skin inflammation, caused by UVR application

In chronological (intrinsic) aging, the administration of polyphenols, which are secondary plant metabolites also found to protect against skin aging through the exhibition of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, according to the existing literature, linking skin aging and the ability of polyphenols as regulatory elements with function in maintained skin homeostasis.

Dr. Davinelli S, said at the end of the study, "Polyphenols exert their influence mostly through their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, thereby abrogating collagen degradation and/or increasing procollagen synthesis".

Finally, in the 33 healthy Asian subjects, all men enrolled after consent in a placebo-controlled comparative study with a split face design with one group applied multiple emulsions with green tea and the second group applied multiple emulsions with lotus extract, while a third group applied a multiple emulsion with a combination of both extracts, once daily over the 60-day treatment researchers found that all groups show a significant improvement in skin roughness (SEr), scaliness (SEsc), smoothness (SEsm), and wrinkling (SEw). Compared to the other 2 groups, green tea, and lotus combined in multiple emulsions brought a superior synergistic anti-aging effect.

Dr. Mahmood T, the lead author, after considering other confounders, said, "Diverse anti-oxidant constituents in both plants have a potential influence on skin surface parameters, thus indicating these plants as the future of new anti-aging products".

Taken together, green tea bioactive polyphenols may be considered a functional food used as a topical or oral injection to delay the skin aging process through overexpression of antioxidants in improved both chronological (intrinsic) and photo-aging (extrinsic) aging.

#GreenTeaExtracts in the Protection of #HairLoss and Promotion of #HairReGrowth, According to Studies

By Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reducing hair loss and stimulating hair growth, some scientists suggested.
Hair loss can be temporary or permanent but in most cases, it is a result of the levels of by-product prolactin of testosterone in men increasing, stimulating the production of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase that causes the conversion of testosterone to dihydro-testosterones DHT, leading to hair grow-back thinner or not grow-back at all, particularly in people with androgenic alopecia hair loss problem.

According to statistics, approximately 40% of men have noticeable hair loss by age 35, 65% by age 60, and 80% by age 80.

Green tea, bioactive polyphenolic compounds in attenuated hair loss were found to associate to several mechanisms, that involved certain aspects.

The examination of green tea epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a significant constituent of polyphenol on human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) in the prevention or treatment of androgenetic alopecia showed that injection of the green tea extract expresses a strong effect in inhibition of 5alpha-reductase activity in conversion of testosterone to dihydro-testosterones DHT selectively in the activated human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) in stimulated hair follicle growth.

Further analysis suggested that EGCG activity in enhanced growth of human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) was attributed to influence hair growth by dermal papilla cells proliferation through the activation of ERK pathways involved functions in the regulation of cell cycle in the division and Akt pathway in promoted cells survival and growth.

Additional observation also found that green tea extract also increased the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax which has been found to associate to lower dermal papilla cells apoptosis and stimulate hair follicle regrowth.

More interestingly, the evaluation of the effect of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in induced androgenic alopecia by shortening the hair follicle growth phase, resulting in hair loss in animal models, application of green tea epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) protected against dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the induction of mediated human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) death through cell cycle arrest, cell viability, the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and senescence by inhibiting expression of alternated mRNA in human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) induced by dihydrotestosterone (DHT) activity, thus increasing the regrowth of hair follicle, subsequently, in stimulated hair to grow back.

Dr. Shin S, the lead author of the study said, "EGCG ameliorates the negative effects of DHT by altering the miRNA expression profile in human DPCs".

Houttuynia Cordata Thunb (HC), traditional herbal medicine widely used in Asia for the treatment of patients with alopecia containing green tea (GT) as a major ingredient, in 25 days experiment of six-week-old male C57BL/6 mice randomly divided into four groups (negative control, finasteride (1 mg/kg ), a positive control, and two groups fed with 200 and 400 mg/kg concentrations expressed a strong effect of area of hair regrowth 70.2 % and 83.5 % respectively, in compared to of 55.1 % negative control group. And the increased diameter of hair follicles was 11.9 μm, 17.4 μm, and 22.8 (±5.2) μm also found in the negative control, herbal complex 200 and 400 mg/kg group, respectively.

Furthermore, the application of herbal formula at the doses indicated also increased expression of insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 which has a direct implication on the clinical improvement of hair growth and decreased expression of TGF-β1 alternated mRNA transcription activated by androgen in human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) to induce gradually hair loss.

Finally, on hair loss among rodents, 60 female Balb/black mice with hair loss on the head, neck, and dorsal areas were assigned randomly assigned to group A fed with a 50% fraction of polyphenol extract from dehydrated green tea in their drinking water for six months and Group B received regular drinking water, researchers after taking into account of other confounders, found that mice fed with green tea extract demonstrate a significant hair regrowth of 33% during six months of treatment in compared to no hair growth control.

Taken together, green tea with abundant bioactive polyphenols such as epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) may have a significant clinical effect in promoting hair growth and ameliorated hair loss.
through many direct and indirect perspectives. Intake of green tea extract should be taken with special care as overdoses were found to induce acute liver toxicity in some reports.

#GreenTea's #Polyphenols Inhibit #WeightGain through Decreased Fat Deposit in the Liver & Promoted Calorie Restriction

By Kyle J. Norton

Some scientists opinion that green tea polyphenols may have a therapeutic effect in reduced weight gain through decreased hormone expression with function direct influence of excess energy deposit
.
Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long-term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, inducing "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weakened immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Weight gain is an increase in body weight, which involved an increase in muscle mass, fat deposits, and excess fluids.

In the compared green tea, polyphenols [epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin (EGC)] in a decoction of green tea leaves versus usual green tea extracts to evaluate the effect in weight gain in obese animal models fed with a high-fat diet, researchers after taking into account of other con-founders suggested that green tea decoction acute administration of GTD with 2/3 EGCG+1/3 EGC inhibited SGLT-1 activity involved distinct and complementing glucose homeostasis through absorbing glucose from the diet in the small intestine and by reabsorbing the filtered glucose in the tubular system of the kidney, thus reducing access energy being converted to glycogen or fat and deposit in liver, muscles and fat cells.

Additionally, green tea decoction not only improved glucose tolerance but also demonstrated a significant increase in GLUT2 protein in facilitated glucose movement across cell membranes in the regulation of glucose absorption in the distribution of dietary sugar to tissues to induce calorie restriction.

Chronic administration of green tea decoction GTD for 6 weeks, in the same experiment models also displayed a huge reduction of body weight gain, circulating triglycerides and cholesterol, and improved glucose tolerance, through significantly reduced SGLT-1 as seen in the acute application and increased GLUT2 mRNA levels in the jejunum mucosa with function in increasing the surface area of tissue available to absorb nutrients from ingested foodstuffs for decreased fat accumulation and glucose in the liver.

Dr. Snoussi C, the lead author said, "GTD-treated rats for 6 weeks display significantly reduced SGLT-1 and increased GLUT2 mRNA levels in the jejunum mucosa". This result showed that green tea decoction with polyphenols such as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin (EGC) may have a certain effect in reduced weight gain through decreased fat deposit in the liver and promoted calorie restriction.

Further analysis of C57BL/6J mice fed a high-fat/high-sucrose diet (HF/HS, 32% energy from fat; 25% energy from sucrose) or the same diet supplemented with 0.25% GTP or BTP or a low-fat/high-sucrose (LF/HS, 10.6% energy from fat, 25% energy from sucrose) diet for 4 weeks showed that treatment with decaffeinated green tea (GT) polyphenols inhibited weight gain in mice fed an obesogenic diet as indicated above, through the rearrange the relative proportions of Blautia, Bryantella, Collinsella, Lactobacillus, Marvinbryantia, Turicibacter, Barnesiella, and Parabacteroides is correlated with weight loss by a decrease of cecum Firmicutes and increase in Bacteroidetes in the gastrointestinal tract.
Indeed, GTP induces weight loss in association with alteration of the gut microbiota and increased hepatic AMPK in reaction to sugar metabolism, and energy storage and release.

Interestingly, according to the START Clinic for Mood and Anxiety Disorders, oral administration of green tea extract induced an unexpected decrease in total body fat mass, a decrease in body fat percentage, and an increase in lean body mass in patients with weight gain induced by psychotropic medications.

Taken together, green tea, bioactive active polyphenols epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), and epigallocatechin (EGC) may be used as a functional food in reduced weight gain induced by all sources and increased weight loss through regulation of energy metabolism in fat accumulation.

#Herbal #Turmeric Promotes Cancer Cell Cytotoxicity in Vitros, According to Studies

By Kyle J. Norton

Cytotoxicity is an action that kills cancer cells by inducing toxins. Cytotoxicity to cancer cells has been used in chemotherapy to kill cancer cells but it also exerts a negative impact on the nearby healthy cells.
Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by cell growth irregularly in the tissue of specific organs. At the advanced stage, the most malignant cancer cell can travel a distance away to infect other healthy tissues and organs, leading to secondary metastasis through blood and fluid circulation.

Conventionally, chemotherapy depending on the types of drugs may induce side effects of

* Fatigue is a result of a chemo drug that kills cells discriminatorily.

* Hair loss is a result of a chemo drug that damages the hair follicles.

* Easy bruising and bleeding and infection result from reduced coagulation function and weakened immune system.

* Anemia (low red blood cell counts) is caused by killing the red blood cells.

* Nausea and vomiting and appetite changes are some general symptoms of chemo drugs. Delayed nausea and vomiting most commonly start more than 24 hours after chemo and up to 5 to 7 days after treatment

* Constipation is the effects of chemo drugs on the digestive system.

Treatment of side effects is completely depending on the symptoms.

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as an anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, and wound healing agent, and for the treatment of flatulence, bloating, appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.

With an aim to find a potential ingredient for the treatment of cancer, researchers examined the nanoemulsion developed as an advanced form for improving the delivery of turmeric extract-loaded nanoemulsion powder-10.6 (TE-NEP-10.6, high content of artificial surfactant Tween 80), which forms the optimal nanoemulsion, and the TE-NEP-8.6 made by increasing the content of natural emulsifier (lecithin) on reducing risk chemotoxicity.

In cultured NIH3T3, H9C2, HepG2, hCPC, and hEPC, nanoemulsion treatment exerted no significant difference in cell viability in all tested cell lines.

Both nanoemulsion treatments showed no toxicity at an experimental concentration of less than 1 mg/mL.

However, the cell survival rate of all tested primary cultured cells decreased in a concentration-dependent manner.

In other words, nanoemulsion powder-10.6 and TE-NEP-8.6 inhibited the growth of cancer cells without affecting chemotoxicity.

Additionally, according to the results of a joint study led by The New College (Autonomous), phyto-synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) including aqueous garlic, green tea, and turmeric extracts not only showed significant antioxidant activity against the DNA alternation in the initiation of cancer but also enhanced the cytotoxicity activity against four cancer cells' lines such as human breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7), cervical (HeLa), epithelioma (Hep-2) and lung (A549) along with one normal human dermal fibroblasts (NHDF) cell line.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "The AgNPs synthesized using turmeric extract exhibit excellent antioxidant and cytotoxicity activity compared to that synthesized using other extracts".

Taken altogether, turmeric processed abundantly bioactive compound curcumin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Honey Inhibits the Growth and Induces Cytotoxicity of #Cancers, Scientists Say

By Kyle J. Norton

Honey may process certain chemical compounds which have a potential effect in the reducing risk and treatment of cancers with no side effects, some scientists suggested.
Cancer cells are the type of cells that can grow indefinitely compared to the normal cycle which can only survive after a certain cycle division.

According to cellular biology, in a fully grown adult cell, the rate of cell proliferation is much less, and under normal circumstances and cell division in an adult can only occur when there is the need to replace cells that have been lost, damaged, or worn out.

Most cancers start in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the tissue of the specific organ.

At the early stage, most cancer tumors do not induce any symptoms. However, after colonizing most tissue, the disorderly proliferative tumor can suppress the nearby tissue including nerve cells and blood vessels, causing localized pain and severe symptoms depending on the type of cancer.

Also, at this stage, malignant cells can also travel through lymph and blood to infect other healthy tissue, a distance away from the original site.

Although there are many risk factors associated with the onset of cancer, people with a genetic preposition are at the highest risk.

Men who carry genetic mutations BRCA1, BRCA2, and HOXB13, inherited from the parents are at 70% risk of prostate cancer, and women who carry the mutated genes BRCA1 and 2 have an increased risk of breast cancer of over 55%.

Sadly, more than 12 percent of men with prostate cancer tested positive for hereditary mutations of cancer-causing genes, and 87% of women reported BRCA testing by one-year post-diagnosis of breast cancer.

Honey is a miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.

The rich golden liquid is considered one healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener.,

With an aim to find a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of cancer with no side effects, a joint study led by the Universiti Sains Malaysia was conducted to examine the role of honey in modulating the development and progression of tumors or cancers.

By searching the available data online literature, researchers found that there is available evidence (some of which is very recent with regards to the antimetastatic, antiproliferative and anticancer effects of honey in various forms of cancer.

Honey was highly cytotoxic against tumor or cancer cells, while it was non-cytotoxic to normal cells.

Honey inhibited the growth and proliferation of tumors or cancers.

The application of honey inhibited carcinogenesis by modulating the molecular processes of initiation, promotion, and progression stages.

Furthermore, in the study to examine the honey and royal jelly effects against cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity in patients with cancer, researchers examined the results of patients with cancer assigned for cisplatin chemotherapy randomly divided into bee honey and royal jelly groups pretreated before the initiation and during cisplatin chemotherapeutic regimen and control group on cisplatin only and showed that

* Patients on crude bee honey and royal jelly capsules showed lower serum levels of renal injury products (creatinine and urea) compared to those in the control group.
* The changes in kidney parameters were significantly (p < 0.05) lower when compared within the bee honey group before and after cisplatin treatment.

These results indicated bee honey and royal jelly as natural compounds are effective in reducing cisplatin nephrotoxicity and may offer a promising chance for clinically meaningful prevention with no side effects.

Interestingly, the lead author in the examine the overwhelming evidence of the role of diet and lifestyle in cancer risk and prevention, suggested that there is a growing interest in the search for chemopreventative or chemotherapeutic agents derived from natural products.

And, Honey is an important source of bioactive compounds derived from plants and in recent years have been under intensified study for its anticancer properties.

Recently, the role of honey in targeting key hallmarks of carcinogenesis, including uncontrolled proliferation, apoptosis evasion, angiogenesis, growth factor signaling, invasion, and inflammation has been presented. in numbers of conventional research.

Taken altogether, honey may be used as a functional food for the prevention of cancers and as hasa secondary therapy combined with conventional medicine for the treatment of cancers.

Bromelain-based Enzymatic Debridement with Nexobrid® (#Mediwound) in the Healing of Diabetic Foot Wounds, Researchers Find

By Kyle J. Norton

Eschar is a dry, dark scab of dead skin associated with a certain skin condition.
Most cases of eschar are associated with burning or cauterizing that stops bleeding, or prevent the spread of infection.
wounds
The most common causes of eschar are burns, a condition that causes severe skin damage. Burn wound can recover without serious health consequences in a few days or weeks depending on the size of the burns.

Burns depending on the severity can be classified into
* First-degree burns affect only the epidermis or outer layer of the skin accompanied by the symptoms of red, pain, dry, with no blisters on the affected site.

* Second-degree burns affect the epidermis and part of the dermis layer of the skin accompanied by the symptoms of red, blistered, swollen, and painful on the affected site.

* Third-degree burns not only destroy the epidermis and dermis but also damage the underlying bones, muscles, and tendons accompanied by no symptoms due to complete damage of the nerves in the area.

Believe it or not, 10 percent of burns on a child's body and 15 to 20 percent of burns on, an adult's body are considered to be major injuries and require medical attention and hospitalization.

The most common types of burns are* Thermal burns caused by external heat sources.

* Radiation burns caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun or radiotherapy.

* Chemical burns caused by acids, alkalies, detergents, or solvents.

* Electrical burns caused by electrical current.

Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapples (Ananas comosus) has been used in traditional medicine as an inflammatory agent and to treat pains, strains, muscle aches and pains and ease back pain and chronic joint pain, skin diseases, etc.

In finding a potential compound for the treatment of diabetic foot burns, researchers examined the effect of bromelain-based enzymatic debridement with Nexobrid® (Mediwound) on surgical tangential excision of deep dermal and full-thickness burns.

According to the retrospective case series that identified four patients with diabetic foot burns,
Nexobrid® debridement showed significant activity in the development of further eschar and deepening of their wounds a few days after NexoBrid was applied.

In other words, Nexobrid® debridement protects the skin against the formation of dry, dark scabs or the falling away of dead skin due to surgical tangential excision of deep dermal and full-thickness burns.

Based on the finding, Dr. Berner JE, the lead scientist said, "We would recommend judicious use of this new product in patients with diabetic foot wounds".

Moreover, the joint study led by the University of Heidelberg based on the mutual experience of applying enzymatic debridement in more than 500 adult and pediatric patients by the consensus panelists suggested that the degree of consensus was remarkably high, with a unanimous consensus in 88.2% of statements, and the lowest degree of consensus of 70% in only 3 statements.

More precisely, most patients support the use of Nexobrid® debridement for the treatment of removed eschar in burn wounds and reduced blood loss.

After taking other factors into account, Dr. Hirche C, the lead researcher wrote, "This consensus document may serve as a preliminary guideline for the use of enzymatic debridement with user-oriented recommendations until further evidence and systematic guidelines are available".

Taken altogether, bromelain used alone or combined with conventional medicine may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of eschar in burn wounds, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of bromelain in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Healthyfood #Onions Are Associated with A Reduced Risk of #HeadandNeckCancer, According to Sutdies

By Kyle J. Norton

Cancer is a class of diseases associated with cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in the tissue of a specific organ. Over time cancer can become progressively worse and damage other healthy tissues.

Head and neck cancer is a class of cancer including the mouth, nose, throat, larynx, sinuses, or salivary glands.

Most cases of head and neck cancer start in the cell of the inner lining of the affected tissue. Patients with head and neck cancer at the very early stage are asymptomatic due to the very small size of the tumor. However, at the later stage, the cancer cell can travel a distance away from the original site to infect other healthy tissues and organs, leading to secondary metastasis.

The exact causes of head and neck cancer are not identified. However, researchers found that excessive alcohol intake, smoking, infection by the HPV virus, poor oral health, race, and long-term exposure to wood dust are prevalent factors associated with an increased risk of head and neck cancer.

Dr. Shu-Chun Chuang in the investigation of the risk of diet on head and neck cancer (HNC) wrote, "An inverse association was observed for higher frequency intake of fruit (4th vs. 1st quartile OR=0.52, 95% CI=0.43–0.62, ptrend<0.01) and vegetables (OR=0.66, 95% CI=0.49–0.90, ptrend=0.01). Intake of red meat (OR=1.40, 95% CI=1.13–1.74, ptrend=0.13) and processed meat (OR=1.37, 95% CI=1.14–1.65, ptrend<0.01) were positively associated with HNC risk. Higher dietary pattern scores, reflecting high fruit/vegetable and low red meat intake, were associated with reduced HNC risk (per score increment OR=0.90, 95% CI=0.84–0.97)". wrote, "

In other words, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and low red meat intake reduces the risk of HNC, whereas, a diet rich with red meat and processed meat is associated with a higher risk of the disease.

The onion is a plant in the genus Allium, belonging to the family Alliaceae, a close relation to garlic. It is often called the "king of vegetables" because of its pungent taste and found in a large number of recipes and preparations spanning almost the totality of the world's cultures.

Depending on the variety, an onion can be sharp, spicy, tangy, pungent, mild, or sweet.

In the urgency to find a potential compound for the treatment of head and neck cancer, researchers investigated the potentially favorable role of garlic and onion within the International Head and Neck Cancer Epidemiology (INHANCE) Consortium.

By analyzing the pooled individual-level data from eight case-control studies, including 4590 cases and 7082 controls, researchers found that at the 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for associations between garlic and onion intakes and HNC

* The ORs of 0.95 was associated with participants with no or low garlic use, and 0.74 for high garlic use participants.

* Increasing onion intake OR was 0.91 ( for >1 to ≤3 portions per week) and 0.83 ( for >3 portions per week) compared to <1 portion per week.

* Furthermore, higher onion intake showed a significant inverse association with laryngeal cancer risk (OR = 0.69; 95% CI 0.54-0.88).

In other words, the risk of head and neck cancer is decreased proportionally with the amount of intake of onion daily and weekly, particularly in laryngeal cancer.

Based on the finding, researchers wrote, "The results of this pooled analysis support a possible moderate inverse association between... onion intake and HNC risk".

Taken altogether, onion may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of head and neck cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
