#Herbal #Chastetreeberry In the Inhibition Against #Hyperprolactinemia Associated With #PremenstrualSyndrome Pain, According to Studies

By Kyle J. Norton

Chaste tree berry is a species of Vitex agnus-castus, genus Vitex, belonging to the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region, used in herbal medicine for thousands of years as an aphrodisiac herb and considered a Queen herb in treating menstrual problems and discomforts.

Hyperprolactinemia is a condition of elevated serum of prolactin which is the hormone in regulated
breast development and lactation during puberty and pregnancy, respectively.

High levels of prolactin are associated with elevated symptoms in premenstrual syndrome women. Administration of herbal Chaste tree berries may ease the symptoms and treatment of mild and serve cases of PMS.

According to the Second Military Medical University, in the induced hyperprolactinemia SD rat models by administration of metoclopramide dihydrochloride (50 mg/kg, tid, ip, for 10 d), injection of casticin, a flavonoid isolated from Vitex rotundifolia in the treatment group, exhibited the reduction of (10, 20, and 40 mg/kg, ip, for 7 d) serum prolactin levels by 33.9%, 54.3%, and 64.7%,.compared untreated control group.

Dr. YE Q, the lead author in the study said, casticin ameliorated the stimulation of pituitary cells with 17β-Estradiol (E2), a female sex hormone in prolactin secretion.

The study also found that casticin at doses of 0.1, 1, and 10 micromol/L, significantly inhibited the prolactin release stimulated by 17β-Estradiol (E2) in a concentration-dependent manner., by regulating the DNA expression of estrogen receptors in the activated sex hormone for the secretion of porcelain.

In the review of pharmacology and clinical indications of the effectiveness of chaste tree berries in PMS women. the University of Göttingen found that

1. Double-blind placebo-controlled studies indicated that The herbal extract had a beneficial influence on most common premenstrual symptoms.

2. Numerous less rigidly controlled studies indicated that AC extracts reduced premenstrual mastodynia by inhibiting prolactin levels through suppressed mammary gland stimulation in response to stressful situations and during deep sleep phases.

Dr. Wuttke W said" The search for the chemical identity of the dopaminergic compounds resulted in the isolation of a number of diterpenes of which some clerodadienols were most important for the prolactin-suppressive effects" and "dopaminergic compounds present in Vitex agnus castus are clinically the important compounds which improve premenstrual mastodynia and possibly also other symptoms of the premenstrual syndrome".

Taking together, Chaste tree berries may be beneficiary in reducing symptoms for women with PMS during the menstrual cycle, especially in hyperprolactinemia-induced premenstrual breast pain and discomfort.

#Phytochemicals Found in #Herbal #Coltsfoot Flower Buds Processes Anti-Inflammatory Effects Against Cough, Researchers Find

By Kyle J. Norton

Inflammation is a natural defense of the immune system that protects the body against the insult from foreign invasion.

Acute inflammation occurs quickly that lasts a few days or weeks. Most cases of acute inflammation-induced tissue damage are healed themselves after all pathogens are killed off.

However, if the immune system can not completely eradicate all invaders in the acute phase of infection, it will compromise, leading to chronic low-grade inflammation, a major cause of cardiovascular disease, arthritis, and diabetes.

Chronic inflammation is a low-grade inflammation caused by the inability of the immune system to eliminate the invasive pathogens that occurred in the acute phase of infection.

Any inflammation that lasts more than 8 weeks is considered chronic inflammation.

Believe it or not, worldwide, 3 of 5 deaths result from chronic inflammatory diseases like stroke, chronic respiratory diseases, heart disorders, cancer, obesity, and diabetes.

In the US, chronic inflammatory diseases affect more than 50 million Americans each year.

Anti-inflammation is a process that inhibits the pro-inflammatory cytokines without affecting the immune system's activity against pathogens.

Diseases associated with low-grade inflammation include diabetes and cardiovascular.

Coltsfoot(Tussilago farfara) is a perennial herbaceous plant, genus Tussilago, belonging to the family Asteraceae, native to Europe and Asia. The herb has been used for thousands of years to treat asthma, various coughs, bronchial congestion, respiratory disorders, headaches and obstruction in the nasal passage, etc.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of diseases associated with inflammation, researchers examined the anti-inflammatory effect of Tussilagone (FTF), isolated from the flower buds of Tussilago farfara (Compositae).

The study included compounds 1-4 chlorogenic acid (1), 3,5-caffeoylquinic acid (2), 3,4-dicaffeoylquinic acid (3), and 4,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid (4) isolated from ETE and their mixture was determined by spectral analysis given to mice orally in a ratio of 5:28:41:26 as in EtE) at doses of 10 and 20 mg/kg once daily for 3 days. All mixtures showed a significant antitussive effect by exhibiting anti-inflammatory effects against cough frequency by 61.7%.

Compared to other compounds, compound 2 was the most potent to enhance the phenol red secretion by 35.7% in alleviating inflammation.

Compound 4 showed the most robust effect to inhibit leukocytosis by 49.7%.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "The caffeoylquinic acids and their mixture, exhibiting significant antitussive, expectorant, and anti-inflammatory effects, could be considered as the main effective ingredients of FTF, and they may act in a collective and synergistic way".

Taken altogether, coltsfoot may be considered a remedy for the treatment of disease associated with inflammatory disease, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Healthyfood #CruciferousVegetable Reduces the Risk of #CardiovascularDiseases and #Cancers, According to Studies

By Kyle J. Norton

A recent study conducted by the University of Lund, fermented brussels sprouts, one of the members of cruciferous vegetables bound the secretion of bile acids from the liver by increased 25% of the fecal dry weight.

The study also confirmed that in various vegetables (carrots, rutabagas, peas, green beans, and Brussels sprouts), total excretion of bile acids was reduced only when Brussels sprouts were added.

Cruciferous vegetables are a group of vegetables belonging to the family Brassicaceae, including cauliflower, cabbage, cress, bok choy, broccoli, etc.

Bile acids are secreted by the liver with the purpose in removing excess cholesterol in the body and aiding intestinal digestion.

Binding bile acids in the gastrointestinal tract is the function of preventing reabsorption from the gut with an aim to lower the levels of cholesterol.

In vitro, the study of cruciferous vegetables also suggested that consumed regularly after steam cooking, would lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer and improve public health, through lowered recirculation of bile acids resulting in the utilization of cholesterol to synthesize bile acid and reduced fat absorption even more.

Dr. Kahlon TS, the lead author of the study said, "Relative to cholestyramine, (a cholesterol-lowering, bile acid-binding drug) in vitro bile acid-binding on dry matter basis was for the collard greens, kale, and mustard greens, 13%; broccoli, 10%; Brussels sprouts and spinach, 8%; green bell pepper, 7%; and cabbage, 5%" and (the levels of effectiveness can be classified as follows)"collard greens = kale = mustard greens > broccoli > Brussels sprouts = spinach = green bell pepper > cabbage".

Furthermore, according to the article published in the science research, besides steam cooking shown to significantly improved the bile acid-binding of green/leafy vegetables; sautéing also significantly improved the bile acid-binding of mustard greens, kale, broccoli, cabbage, and green bell pepper compared with steaming, boiling or raw (uncooked).

In fact, Collard greens exhibited significantly higher bile acid binding by steaming compared with sautéing, boiling, or raw in comparison to other cruciferous vegetables.

Therefore, it is safe to insist that the intake of cruciferous vegetables regularly can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer, by lowering cholesterol absorption and reabsorption.

#Healthyfood #Asparagus #Inhibits the Risk of #KidneyCancer Cells in Vitro, Researchers Say

By Kyle J. Norton

Asparagus may be a potential product used for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma caused by recurrent abnormal chromosomes in gene and reciprocal gene expression, some scientists suggested.

Kidney cancer is a medical condition characterized by irregular and disorder cell growth that arose first at kidney lining tissue before invading the deep layers of the .kidney.

At the advanced stage of kidney cancer, the malignant cells can travel a distance away from the kidney to infect other healthy tissue and organs, through blood and fluid circulation.

The exact causes of kidney cancer are unknown. Researchers also do not know why, people with the same gene are inherited from the same parents, some are susceptible to the onset of the disease, while other off-springs do not.

However, researchers do not that certain risk factors such as smoking obesity, chemical exposure, gender, and family history are some of the prevalent risk factors that can manifest the onset of kidney cancer.

Long-term intake of certain medicines such as diuretics and analgesic pain pills, such as aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen, and medical conditions such as advanced kidney disease and hypertension are associated with kidney cancer develops.

Furthermore, according to the information provided by the American Cancer Society, people born with the mutation of a gene (FH) linked to hereditary leiomyoma and the SDHB and SDHD genes are also at a higher risk of cancer onset.

Asparagus is a flowering plant belonging to species of the genus Asparagus, native to the western coasts of northern Spain, north to Ireland, Great Britain, northwest Germany, northern Africa, and western Asia.

The delicious plant has been used from early times as a vegetable and medicine, because of its delicate flavor and diuretic properties.

According to the Banaras Hindu University, asparagus racemosus leaf extract inhibits the growth of UOK 146 renal cell carcinoma through cytotoxic activity and downgraded the process of genes responsible for the proliferation of the UOK146 cell line.

Dr. Verma SP, the lead author said, " Evidence of antiproliferative effect, PRCC-TFE3(recurrent abnormal chromosomes in gene and reciprocal gene expression) fusion transcript inhibition and static anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators(BAX0 level clearly indicates that AR extract provides or elicits an apoptosis independent anticancer effect on RCC cells by some specific mechanism of regulation"

Renal cell carcinoma (Kidney cancer/renal cells) is a type of kidney cancer caused by malignant cells in the lining of the tubules in the kidney. It tends first to spread via the bloodstream and the second tumor is generally found in the lung, but it may also spread to lymph nodes and other organs as well.

Shatavarins (containing shatavarin IV) isolated from the roots of Asparagusracemosus exerted anti-cancer properties, in vivo against number of cancer cell lines, including A-498 (human kidney carcinoma) cell lines.

Oral administration of shatavarin to tumor-bearing mice at doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight for 10 days,, inhibited tumor cell volume and increased non-cancer cell count, through its potent cytotoxicity, compared to the untreated mice of the EAC control group.

The herbal decode also restored the normal expression of red (RBC) and white blood cell (WBC) counts and hemoglobin (Hb) concentration which is altered in patients with renal cell cancer.

There is no doubt that Asparagus has exhibited significant anticancer activity in both in vitro and in vivo experimental models but further multi and large-size studies are necessary to confirm this potency.

However, further data collection on large example size and multi-center studies performed with human consumption of whole food during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of asparagus anti-kidney cancer possibilities.

#Antioxidant #PhyticAcids, Inhibit the Risk of #Alzheimer's disease (AD) in Vitros and Vivos, Researchers Suggest

By Kyle J. Norton

Phytic acid, a bioactive compound found mostly in seeds and beans may have a strong and profound effect in protecting the aging brain against the onset of Alzheimer's disease (AD), some scientists suggested.
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease occurred mostly in the older population characterized by progressive brain cell death that happens over time.

Alzheimer's disease worsens over time and it is fatal.

As the disease progresses, the brain tissue of the patient with AD has fewer and fewer nerve cells and connections.

In the elderly, age-related changes in the brain include atrophy (shrinking) of certain parts of the brain, inflammation associated with overexpression of free radicals in the induction of neuro cytotoxicity that affects the energy production within cells and long-term accumulated plaques in the neurons caused by unhealthy diet are many prevalent risk factors that elevate the early onset and progression of the disease.

Dr. Pini L and colleagues in the study "Brain atrophy in Alzheimer's Disease and Aging" said, "Disease progression has also been associated with changes in white matter tracts. Recent studies have investigated two areas often overlooked in AD, such as the striatum and basal forebrain, reporting significant atrophy".

The results suggested the loss of white matter tracts in the striatum and basal forebrain may be the culprit that brain shrinking in the aging population.

In the analysis of the free radical, researchers suggested that free radical overexpression causes the reduced levels of antioxidant enzymes produced by the elderly initiate the onset of oxidative stress that may attack and damage lipids, proteins, and DNA, leading to irreversible brain cell damage and development of AD.

Dr. Tuppo EE, the lead author in the study of oxidative stress and AD, said, "The brain is especially sensitive to oxidative damage because of its high content of readily oxidized fatty acids, high use of oxygen, and low levels of antioxidants" and "Evidence for oxidative damage has been obtained from postmortem brain tissue as well as from living patients with Alzheimer's disease. Antioxidants such as vitamin E show promise that they may help treat the disease.

Phytic acid (Inositol hexaphosphate) are phytochemical of the organic acid found abundantly in nuts, sesame seeds, soybeans, wheat, pumpkin, beans, almonds, etc.

Phytochemicals, the natural chemical constituent, protect the plants against diseases and form their outer's color. Phytochemicals may be the next potential source of new medications for the treatment of diseases with little or no side effects.

In the finding of a novel protective treatment for AD pathology, researchers at the Oregon Health & Science University, Portland conducted an investigation to evaluate the phytic acid(inositol hexakisphosphate), a phytochemical found in food grains and a key signaling molecule in mammalian cells.

The experiment is to examine the protective and beneficial effects of phytic acid against amyloid-β (Aβ) pathology in MC65 cells and the Tg2576 mouse model.

In MC65 cells, after 48-72 hours, of treatment with phytic acid researchers showed that phytic acid provided complete protection against amyloid precursor protein-C-terminal fragment-induced cytotoxicity by reducing calcium present, free radicals, and plaque accumulation.

Furthermore, the injection of phytic acid significantly increased brain levels of cytochrome oxidase which is found in low levels in AD patients, and decreased lipid peroxidation.

The phytic acid was well tolerated with little side effects.

Additionally, in finding a composition and method for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, researchers showed that phytic acid, a phytate salt, an isomer or hydrolysate of phytic acid or a phytate salt, or a mixture of any combination administered to a person in an amount from about 0.5 grams to about 18.75 grams per day, demonstrated a potential effect in reducing amyloid plaque development.

In the experiment, researchers also discovered that very low doses of phytic acid are effective in the treatment and prevention of aggregation of beta-amyloid proteins as are commonly seen in the brains of Alzheimer's patients.

Taken altogether, the phytic acid found abundant in nuts and seeds may be considered a functional supplement for the prevention of AD and an adjunct therapy combined with conventional medicine for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

#Healthyfood #Cranberry Improves Quality of Life and Reduces Recurrent #UrinaryTractInfections in Women, According to Clinical Studies

By Kyle J. Norton

Urinary incontinence, a medical, psychological, social, economic, and hygienic problem, is a condition of loss of the bladder to control that can lead to mild or severe forms of involuntary leakage of urine.
Involuntary urine leakage or urinary incontinence is frequent among elderly women, adult women, and even adolescent women.

According to the statistics provided by Phoenix Physical Therapy, approximately 25 million adult Americans are living with some form of urinary incontinence of which 75-80% are women.

Believe it or not, about 17% of women and 16% of men over 18 years old have overactive bladder(OAB), and an estimated 12.2 million adults have urge incontinence.

All types of urinary incontinence have been found to have a negative impact on the quality of life and daily activity.

Epidemiologically, symptoms of urinary incontinence depend on the types of conditions, including
* Stress incontinence
Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) has a significant impact on the quality of life for many women with symptoms of leakage of urine during physical activity, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising, due to weakening the sphincter pelvic muscles, supporting the bladder and urethra.

* Urge incontinence
Urge incontinence, also known as overactive bladder, is a condition of involuntary loss of urine and intense urge to urine due to bladder spasms or contractions with no apparent reason.
Urge incontinence is also called overactive bladder.

* Overflow incontinence
Overflow incontinence is a condition of the bladder's inability to empty completely and the normal flow of urine is blocked which can lead to constant urine dribbling.

* Mixed incontinence
Mixed incontinence is a condition of a combination of stress incontinence and urgency incontinence.

* Functional incontinence
Functional incontinence is a condition characterized by functioning difficulty that prevents one from urine normally as a result of mental or physical disabilities.

* Total incontinence
Total incontinence is a condition of total loss of urine control due to certain conditions such as bladder fistula, injury to the urethra, and ectopic ureter.

Cranberry is an evergreen dwarf shrub, genus Vaccinium, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern America and Southern Asia. Because of its health benefits, cranberry has been cultivated in some parts of the world for commercial profit.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of urinary tract infection, researchers examined the effect of the efficacy of a concentrated cranberry liquid blend, UTI-STAT with Proantinox, in female patients with a history of recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTIs).

The study included the oral administration of 15, 30, 45, 60, and 75 mL daily for 12 weeks to 28 women with a history of rUTIs <6 months. Only 23 women completed the study

According to the experimental results,
* The maximally tolerated dose of UTI-STAT was 75 mL/d, compared to the recommended dose of 60 mL/d.

* Only 2 (9.1%) out of 23 women report an rUTI, a markedly better rate than the historical data.

* Furthermore, at 12 weeks, the reduction in worry about rUTIs and increased QOL was a significant increase in the tested subjects measured by the Medical Outcomes Study short-form 36-item questionnaire.

* Moreover, the improvement of QOL was also confirmed by the lower American Urological Association Symptom Index.

* The cranberry liquid blend used in the study showed a good safety profile and tolerability in both pre-and postmenopausal women with a history of rUTIs.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "The secondary endpoints demonstrated its effectiveness in reducing the incidence of rUTI and increasing QOL".

Taken altogether, cranberry liquid blend, UTI-STAT with Proantinox, may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of UTIs and rUTIs, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Phytochemical #WithaferinA Isolated from #Ashwagandha Suppress the #SkinCancer Formation, According to Studies

By Kyle J. Norton

Skin, a large organ in the human not only acts as a barrier to protect the internal organs against the invasion of the foreign pathogen, but also protects the body against mechanical impacts and pressure, variations in temperature, radiation, and chemicals.

Skin cancer is a medical condition associated with irregular cell growth in the skin tissues.

Most cases of skin cancer start in the cells on the surface of the outermost inner lining tissue before penetrating into deeper layers.

After growing in size at the advanced stage, by penetrating into deeper layers of the infected tissue, the cells of the tumor may travel a distance away to infect other healthy tissue and organs through blood and fluids circulation, leading to secondary metastasis of secondary breast, lung, and colon tumor.

Believe it or not, more people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined. As of today, there are 58 million Americans living with skin cancer.

Approximately, 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. The 5-year survival of among all people with melanoma of the skin is 92% compared to 100% of the with localized skin cancer.

If you have experienced some of the symptoms such as a sore that doesn't heal or comes back after healing, pale white or yellow flat areas that look like scars, raised and scaly red patches, small, smooth and shiny lumps that are pearly white, pink or red, a pink growth with raised edges and indents in the center and a growth that has small blood vessels on the surface of the skin, you may be on the early stage of skin cancer, please check with your doctor immediately.

Dr. Epstein JH. wrote, "Nonmelanoma skin cancers, like most malignancies, increase in incidence with increasing age. However, in general, they are not due to the aging process but are primarily due to solar radiation".

And, "genetic disease xeroderma pigmentosum supports the concept that such damage, if not repaired, will lead to cancer formation. It also has been suggested that unrepaired damage to deoxyribonucleic (DNA) and other macromolecules is at least in part responsible for the aging process in general".
On finding a potent compound for the treatment of cancer, researchers examined the Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) chemopreventive potential in a chemically-induced skin carcinogenesis mouse model.
According to the tested analysis, WA significantly suppressed skin tumor formation by suppressing cell proliferation.

Furthermore, carcinogen-induced the increase of acetyl-CoA carboxylase 1 (ACC1) associated with cancer metastasis was also blocked by the application of WA.

Additionally, in melanoma cells, WA also suppressed the expression levels of ACC1.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "withaferin A may have potential in chemoprevention and ACC1 may serve as a critical target of WA".

Taken altogether, Ashwagandha may be considered a functional herb for the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of skin cancer in breast cancer patients, pending the result of a larger sample size and multicenter study
