The Effects of Coffee on Gastritis?

By Kyle J. Norton

Epidemiological studies, linking coffee consumption daily and regularly associated with risk of gastritis developing caused by the overproduction of bacterial Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in induced infection, have been inclusive.

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Gastritis is a condition of inflammation, irritation, or erosion of the stomach lining caused by bacterial Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) overexpression located at the lining of the stomach.

In a study of a total of 447 patients aged 15-79 had not had peptic ulcer disease or treatment for H pylori infection. researchers found that coffee consumption showed a positive dose-response relation in the reduced active stomach lining infection and after adjusted odds ratios, patients who drank < 3 cups and > or = 3 cups of coffee per day displayed the relative risk ratio of 1.49 and 2.49 respectively, in compared to non-drinkers.

The result suggested that coffee intake showed negative effects in attenuated in the course of H pylori-induced active infection. In other words, coffee intake may elevate active infection caused by bacterial H pylori.

Another, in the study of a sample of 238 subjects (hospital employees) initially (in 1994) seronegative to H. pylori tested again 5 years later (1999), in two different periods (1994 and 1999). returned questionnaire from patients showed a neutral effect between coffee consumption and risk of infection caused by H. pylori regardless of the number of cups intake daily and after taking into account of other factors.

More importantly, in the investigation of the effect of coffee consumption on four major acid-related diseases: gastric ulcer (GU), a serve case of gastric infection, duodenal ulcer (DU), reflux esophagitis (RE), and non-erosive reflux disease (NERD) based on the large-scale multivariate analysis of the 9,517 healthy adults, researchers filed the following results in related to coffee intake and risk of Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection
1. Coffee consumption expressed a relatively low ratio of pepsinogen I/II
2. Coffee intake expressed a positively related risk of Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection by multiple logistic regression analysis,
3. Coffee intake was not associated with either GU or DU

But after taking into account other risk factors, researchers exemplified that " there is no significant relationship between coffee consumption and the four major acid-related upper gastrointestinal disorders".

With all the information collected, coffee intake may have a very significant and neutral link to an increased risk of Gastritis caused by bacterial infection, therefore, clarification by large sample size and cohost studies are necessary,

Yoga Practice Inhibits the Onset of Anxiety Naturally

Kyle J. Norton

People who participated in yoga classes are likely to experience less or lower levels of anxiety and in some cases, may have the best chance of letting go of anxiety through the reduction of stress implications, some studies suggested.

Yoga, the ancient technique for harmonized external and internal body well-being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been best known to people in the Western world and some parts of Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes research and supported by health advocates.

Anxiety is a mental disorder characterized by worry about future events and fear of current events.

People experience anxiety differently. Some people feel a sudden moment of anxiety just a bad feeling, it comes and goes, only lasting a short time. Depending on how people cope with moments of anxiety, the events can be brief or last a few days.

However, in some persons, if anxiety does not go away, they may require treatment from related field specialists.

If you frequently experience symptoms of nervousness, restlessness, or being tense feelings of danger, panic, or dread rapid heart rate rapid breathing, or hyperventilation,..... you may have developed an anxiety disorder.

In the evaluate the yoga effect in reduced levels of anxiety, Dr. Bernardi ML and colleagues launched an investigation of 45 mastectomized women treated at the Ilza Bianco outpatient service of Santa Rita de Cássia Hospital in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo from March to November 2010.

Selected women were assigned to 6 yoga-applied sessions.

At the end of the experiment periods, a researcher found that the yoga treatment group shows a statistically significant in decreased anxiety levels measured by Anxiety Trait and State Test.

Anxiety Trait and State Test is a psychological inventory of 40 self-report items used for testing of anxiety effect with an aim to measure anxiety at both poles of the normal affect curve known as state vs. trait.

Further analysis also suggested that the reduced level of anxiety in participants was attributed to decreasing physiological and psychological arousal such as the heart rate, blood pressure, relaxation and calmness, and easing respiration.

Moreover, women in the yoga group at the end of the lessons were also found less stressed compared to the beginning of the class.

In other words, yoga participants have successfully learned how to manage stress, thus reducing the risk of anxiety in response to mental or emotional strain.

Truly, regular yoga exercise including breathing technique, and meditation not only provides participants a positive mind in a maintained state of calmness and relaxation in dealing with such events without getting restless and confused but also enhances recovery from anxiety.

Some yoga instructors suggested that technique of yoga practice including mindfulness also reduces the production of the stress hormone cortisol and brought back the present moment while letting them go or dealing with them in a profound way.

Indeed, yoga postures and deep breathing have been shown to ameliorate the overexpression of nerve neurons in transmitted information of sensation, stress, and suffering, thus reducing the risk of anxiety.

Dr. Bernardi ML, the lead author of the study said, "hatha yoga exercises decrease stress and anxiety in the experimental group. No connection between confounding variables and anxiety and stress levels was found".

Hatha yoga is one form of yoga practice containing physical exercises and breathing control.

More importantly, according to the data collection period and meditation program between January 9 and August 31, 2009, 46 women who were pregnant following IVF, and were between 12-20 weeks gestation, participated in the study (23 experimental groups, 23 control group), women pregnant after IVF participated in yoga class showed statistically significant improvements in stress, anxiety, labor pain, and labor confidence.

In fact, yoga in improvements of stress, anxiety, labor pain, and labor confidence, decreasing physiological and psychological arousal also enhanced women's sense of control and confidence in giving birth as well as staying away from negative thinking about the pregnancy outcome.

IVF is a medical procedure characterized by eggs fertilized outside the mother's womb.

Interestingly, a total of 46 participants completed both a resistance exercise class and a yoga class in a counterbalanced order, researchers suggested that in comparison to the measurement of body satisfaction and social physique anxiety completed immediately before and after each class, the yoga participated group displays greater improvements of body image and reduces the state of social physique anxiety.

In other words, by focusing on breathing, the connection of the mind and body, yoga participants were found to associate decreased state social physique anxiety with an increase in body satisfaction.

According to the differentiation of the Journal of Clinical Research & Bioethics a group of patients suffering from chronic diseases participated in yoga class, yoga attendees benefited from the stimulation of immune functions in reduced physical symptoms by improving the expression of human β-defensin 2 (HBD-2), a potent antimicrobial peptide forms part of the innate immune response, .natural killer (NK) cells, and anti-inflammatory cytokines, decreasing stress and/or anxiety symptoms and improving quality of life.

Taking together, yoga may be the best treatment for people with anxiety through the improvement of social, mental, and body confidence in a reduced state of over worries, particularly in people with frequent stress. People who continued yoga practice daily may have the best chance of letting go of anxiety forever.

Fennel May Be Better Than Ibuprofen in Stopping the Primary Painful Period

Kyle J. Norton

Adding a portion of fennel to the daily diet may have a potential and positive effect in reduced pain caused by sensory neuron stimulus in women with primary dysmenorrhea, some scientists suggested.

The results of the investigation were carried out by a number of respectable institutes, including the Babol University of Medical Sciences and Health Services, and details of the experiment were published in an online medical library.

Antinociceptive activity is an action or process of blocking the painful injurious stimulus by sensory neurons.

Dysmenorrhea is also known as a painful period, a menstrual cramp in the regions of the pelvis or lower abdomen that last a few days during menstruation, caused by the overproduction of certain hormones in the family of prostaglandins.
Some women may experience periodic pains during or prior to, or after menstrual periods in the lower abdomen. In some cases, the pain can also spread over to the whole abdomen and lumbosacral region.

There are 2 Types of dysmenorrhea
* Primary dysmenorrhea
Primary dysmenorrhea affects about 90% of girls in the first 2 years of menstruation. Some researchers suggested that it may be caused by the immaturity of the reproductive organs.

* Secondary dysmenorrhea
Secondary dysmenorrhea is caused by gynecological diseases. including hormone imbalance, endometriosis, fibromas, pelvic inflammatory disease, etc.

Accompanied by the painful period, women may also experience to psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, irritability, digestive symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and physical symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, and painful breasts.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of the genus, belongings to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean, used in traditional and herbal medicine as a warming, carminative, antispasmodic, antidepressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve PMS,...

In order to compare the effect of a combination of fennel extract/vitamin E with ibuprofen on the intensity of pain in primary dysmenorrhea among the students of Tabriz city in 2007-2009, researchers of the joint study led by the Kosar Department of Shahid Motahhary Hospital carried out an investigation of 68 students from Medical and Tabriz universities, who were living in the dormitory, suffering from primary dysmenorrhea.

All participants were randomly divided into two groups of 34 students each (the two groups used combination of fennel extract/vitamin E and ibuprofen cross-over form in the 2 months).

Application of the combination displayed a mean of peak pain intensity in the first, second, third, sixth, and forty-eighth hours that is significantly lower than the ibuprofen group.

Also, a combination of fennel extract/vitamin E was more effective than ibuprofen in the first hour (P < 0.03) and second hour (P < 0.04), according to the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) tool for ranking the intensity of the pain.

These results suggested that the fennel and vitamin E combination was more efficacy in blocking the neuron in transmitting pain caused by overexpression of prostaglandins hormone in the induction of abdominal muscle constriction compared to conventional medicine ibuprofen.

Dr. Nasehi M, the lead author, after taking into account other co and confounders said, "Combination of fennel extract/vitamin E is effective on decreasing the intensity of pain of primary dysmenorrhea, and it is advised to those who cannot use chemical drugs".

In a separate study to investigate the effect of fennel used alone on primary dysmenorrhea symptoms and amenorrhea duration, 80 female students who satisfied the criteria and guidelines were randomly divided into two groups of intervention (n = 40) and control (n = 40).

The intervention group was given one soft capsule of Fennel (30 mg) every 4 hours, 3 days before menstruation till the 5th day, and continued for 3 months. The control group received no medication.

According to the result of the experiments, fennel treated group exerted a significant decrease in the mean nausea intensity and weakness from 1.93, and 2.88 after 3 months, compared to the control group 2.37, to 6.65 in the control group.

Furthermore, in comparison to the control group, the fennel group reduced the duration of the menstrual period after two and three months of use.

Moreover, Fennel treated group demonstrated a strong improvement in quality and feelings of well-being after 1 and 3 months.

Taken together, fennel may be considered a functional food for the treatment of Primary Dysmenorrhea without inducing adverse effects.

Herbal #Alfalfa Inhibits the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes, Researchers Reveal

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a whole herb that processes anti-diabetes property, some scientists suggested.

Diabetes is a chronic condition characterized by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose as a result of either cell in the pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol.

In some cases, diabetes may also be caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.
The actual causes of diabetes inflammatory conditions are debatable.

Some researchers also do not know why some people without genetic mutations are susceptible to type 2 diabetes while others do not.

However, certain risk factors such as overweight and obesity (overexpression of fatty tissue that causes insulin resistance), physical inactivity, family history, race,,,,, and age. ...

Women who developed gestational diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome,.... and high blood pressure is also some major risk factors associated to increase risk of type 2 diabetes.

The first line of medicine used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes is metformin which processes a significant effect in improving the body tissue sensitivity to insulin. In other words, metformin improves the body's use of insulin more effectively. and lowers glucose production in the liver.

In the stage of prediabetes, patients may not experience any symptoms. However, untreated diabetes or diabetes that do not manage properly, may increase the risk of cataracts and glaucoma, foot damage.

In the advanced stage, untreated diabetes can also cause nerve damage or poor blood flow to the feet which in turn, increases the risk of various foot complications.

Alfalfa is a flowering plant in the genus Medicago, belonging to the family Fabaceae, It has been cultivated all over the world as hay for cattle feeding.

The leaves, sprouts, and seeds to make medicine that has been used in traditional medicine over thousands of years to treat high cholesterol, asthma, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, enhance the digestive system, bleeding disorders, kidney, and urinary tract infections, etc. North American Aboriginals have used Alfalfa seed as food, such as making bread and mush.

Ingredients
1. Essential amino acids
2. Calcium
3. Magnesium
4. Potassium
5. Iron
6. Phosphorus
7. Zinc
8. Beta carotene
9. vitamin C
10. vitamins D
11. Vitamin E
12. Vitamin K

Its chemical constituents include flavones, isoflavones, sterols, Bichanin, Coumestrol, Diadzein, Formonetin, Genistein,.... and coumarin derivatives.

In the study to examine the Lucerne (alfalfa) effect by orally administrating of the herbal extract through diet (62.5 g/kg) and drinking water (2.5 g/l) in reducing the hyperglycemia of streptozotocin-diabetic mice, researchers found
* Application of an aqueous extract of lucerne exerts a significant stimulation of insulin secretion from the pancreatic B-cell line.

* Application of aqueous extract of lucern also promotes insulin-like activity in inhibited overexpression glucose.

* The sequential extraction with solvents revealed .higher insulin-releasing activity in both methanol and water fractions compared to one extract constituent.

Further analysis also suggested that the activity of the extract was found to be heat stable and enhanced by exposure to acid and alkali (0.1 M-HCl and NaOH).

Dr. Gray AM, the lead author of the final report wrote, "The results demonstrate the presence of antihyperglycaemic, insulin-releasing and insulin-like activity in the traditional antidiabetic plant, Medicago sativa".

Additionally, in the study to reaffirm the effect of herbal alfalfa against the onset of diabetes researchers launched a study to compare alfalfa with other herbal medicine including dried leaves of agrimony (Agrimonia eupatoria), blackberry (Rubus fruticose), celandine (Chelidonium majus), eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), lady's mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris), and lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis); seeds of coriander (Coriandrum sativum); dried berries of juniper (Juniperus communis); bulbs of garlic (Allium sativum) and roots of licorice (Glycyrhizza glabra).

In mice administrated by streptozotocin (200 mg/kg i.p.) to induce the development of hyperphagia, polydipsia, body weight loss, hyperglycemia, and hypoinsulinemia, researchers found that

* Herbal alfalfa exerts a strong effect in reducing the level of hyperglycemia during the development of streptozotocin diabetes compared to others herbs.

* Herbal alfalfa reduced polydipsia and a reduced rate of body weight loss.

* Alfalfa initially countered the hyperinsulinaemic effect of streptozotocin, without affecting the fall in plasma insulin.

Dr. said, after taking into account other co and confounders, " The results suggest that certain traditional plant treatments for diabetes, namely alfalfa,.......can retard the development of streptozotocin diabetes in mice".

Taking all together, herbal alfalfa may be considered a functional herb for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes.

However, additional data collection on large example size and multi-center clinical studies performed with human consumption of whole food during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of alfalfa anti-type 2 diabetes possibilities.

And long-term multiple dietary supplement consumption of a broad array of vitamin/mineral, herbal, and condition-specific dietary supplements on a daily basis should consult with their doctors or related field specialist before applying.

#Healthyfood #Cabbages Reduce the Risk of Mitochondrial Dysfunction Induced by Oxidative Stress

By Kyle J. Norton

Mitochondria are the cell that converts food molecules into energy for the body tissues' needs. Mitochondria produce 90 percent of the energy for body functioning.

Mitochondrial dysfunction is a condition affecting the organelles that generate energy for the cell.

The genetic proposition has been found to alter the process of mitochondria in converting oxygen and food to energy in some people. Acquired mitochondrial dysfunction has been found in patients with Alzheimer’s disease, muscular dystrophy, Lou Gehrig’s disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Acquired mitochondrial dysfunction caused by the long-term use of certain medications such as Metformin, medical conditions such as mitochondrial encephalomyopathy or infection, and environmental influences, such as xenochemicals, can lead to less and less energy generated within the cells.

The most common symptoms of mitochondrial dysfunction include poor growth
muscle weakness, muscle pain, low muscle tone, exercise intolerance, vision and/or hearing problems
learning disabilities, delays in development, and mental retardation depending on the location of the infected cells.

Diseases associated with mitochondrial dysfunction include Autism, autism-like features Heart, liver, or kidney diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, neurological problems, thyroid, and respiratory (breathing) problems, and dementia.

Conventionally, treatments for mitochondrial dysfunction are totally depending on the causes of the disease.

Cabbage is a species of Brassica oleracea belongings to the family Brassicaceae (or Cruciferae), native to the Mediterranean region along the seacoast. The veggie has a short stem which is crowded with a mass of leaves, usually green but in some varieties, it may be red or purplish.

With an aim to find natural food for the protection of mitochondrial function, researchers examined the effects of cabbage extract on oxidative stress in H9c2 cardiomyoblasts.
According to the tested differentiation,
* Cabbage extract protected against H2O2-induced cell death and did not elicit any cytotoxic effects.

* Cabbage extract suppressed ROS production and increased expression of antioxidant proteins (SOD-1, catalase, and GPx).

* Cabbage extract also inhibited apoptotic responses and activation of MAPK proteins (ERK1/2, JNK, and p-38) in oxidative stress-exposed H9c2 cells.

Precisely, cabbage extract preserved mitochondrial functions upon oxidative stress.

Taken altogether, cabbage may be considered a remedy for the protection of mitochondrial dysfunction, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Healthyfood #Honey Exhibits Anti Hypertensive Property with No Side Effects

By Kyle J. Norton

In seeking a natural therapy with no side effects, scientists may have a herbal remedy for normalizing blood pressure, according to studies.

Hypertension is a chronic condition caused by abnormally high blood pressure.

High blood pressure is a condition of a cluster of metabolic syndrome associated with the increased risk of heart disease and stroke.

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood.

In high blood pressure individuals, due to the elevated blood pressure in your arteries, the heart has to work harder than normal to pump blood through the blood vessels.

In low blood pressure individuals, the reduced blood pressure in the arteries drops can cause the heart to pump blood at a slower rate than normal.

According to the standard guidelines, the levels of blood pressure is normal if it is more than 120 over 80 and less than 140 over 90 (120/80-140/90).

People with blood pressure lower than 120/80 are considered normal without being accompanied by symptoms of light-head or dizziness.

According to the statistics provided by the CDC, in the U.S. 29% or 100 million of adults have hypertension during 2015–2016 and hypertension prevalence increased with age and was 33.2% among those aged 40–59 and 63.1% among those aged 60 and over.

Honey, the rich golden liquid is a miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.

The liquid is considered one of the healthy food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener by many people.

Researchers in the course of finding a natural ingredient for the treatment of high blood pressure investigated the safety and effect of intrapulmonary administration (by inhalation) of 60 % honey solution, 10% dextrose, or distilled water in normal or diabetic subjects.

Twenty-four healthy subjects, 16 patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, and six patients with hypertension were selected to participate in the study.

Twelve healthy subjects were subjected to distilling water inhalation for 10 min, and after one week they received inhalation of honey solution (60% wt/v) for 10 min. Another 12 healthy subjects received inhalation of 10% dextrose for 10 min.

Honey treatment showed a mild reduction of blood pressure compared to no change in another group.

From a time perspective, systolic and diastolic blood pressure was reduced by honey inhalation in hypertensive patients at 60 and 120 min.

After taking into account co and confounders, researchers said, "Honey inhalation was safe and effective in reducing...elevated blood pressure in hypertensive patients".

Moreover, in order to obtain more information on honey antihypertensive activity, researchers investigated the aqueous extract obtained from the mixture of the fresh leaf of Persea Americana, stems, and a fresh leaf of Cymbopogon citratus, fruits of Citrus medica, and honey on ethanol and sucrose-induced hypertension in rats.

Rats included in the study were divided into eight groups of 6 rats each and daily treated for 5 weeks. The control group received distilled water (1 mL/kg) while rats of groups 2, 3, and 4 received ethanol 40 degrees (3 g/kg/day), 10% sucrose as drinking water, and the two substances respectively.

The remaining groups received additional sucrose and ethanol, the aqueous extract (50, 100, and 150 mg/kg) and nifedipine (10 mg/kg) respectively.

The group treated with ethanol and sucrose showed a significant (p < 0.001) increased blood pressure and heart rate compared to distilled water-treated rats.

Chronic treatment of ethanol and sucrose also exerted a significantly decreased the activities of antioxidant enzymes produced by the host, observed by the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) and elevated levels of oxidative stress observed by the stress marker malondialdehyde (MDA) levels.

However, administration of the aqueous extract or nifedipine prevented all changes caused by chronic ethanol and sucrose, including hemodynamic, biochemical, oxidative, and histological impairments.

The finding clearly suggested that aqueous extract including honey possesses antihypertensive activity through the improvement of biochemical and oxidative status, through its antioxidant property.

Taken altogether, honey used alone or combined with other herbs may be considered anti-hypertension functional remedies with no side effects, pending the confirmation of a large sample size and multicenter human study.

Phytochemical Beta-Sitosterol Processes Anti-Hyperglycemia and Anti-Diabetes Activity

By Kyle J. Norton

Diabetes occurs when cells in the pancreas die off or receptor sites are clogged up by fat and cholesterol. In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.

Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA), similar to type 1 diabetes, is a slow-progressing form of autoimmune diabetes. The disease is caused by the pancreas' inability to produce enough insulin, because of slowly die-off of insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.

LADA is also known as type 1.5 diabetes because the disease has characteristics of both type 1 (autoimmune in nature) and type 2 diabetes.

Unlike type 2 diabetes, patients with LADA do not respond well to seems to lifestyle and medication as in type-2 diabetes in the long term. Medicine used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes does not halt or slow the progression of loss of pancreas beta cells.
Hyperglycemia, a medical condition of abnormally high blood glucose, is a major concern, in people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Although hyperglycemia is a hallmark in patients with diabetes, the condition can also occur in people without diabetes due to a certain medical condition such as pneumonia in the elderly.

Most cases of hyperglycemia occurred in patients who do not manage their diabetes properly and can be controlled by the following diabetes guidance.

Beta-Sitosterol is a phytochemical in the class of Phytosterols, belongings to the group of Lipids, found abundantly in avocados, rice bran, wheat germ, corn oils, fennel, peanuts, soybeans, hawthorn, basil, and buckwheat. etc.

On finding a potential phytochemical for the prevention of diseases involved in high blood sugar, researchers evaluated the antioxidant potential of β-sitosterol (BS), a phytosterol from Solanum surat-tense, using an experimental model for diabetes-induced oxidative damage.

According to the results from the study of 21 days of treatment with BS (10, 15, and 20 mg/kg, p.o.) on blood, serum, in control and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats that were divided into 9 experimental groups, including a control group, a diabetic group, and BS- and glibenclamide-treated diabetic groups.

All application doses dependently showed a decrease of glycated hemoglobin, serum glucose, and nitric oxide, with concomitant increases in serum insulin levels.

In other words, β-sitosterol (BS), exerted anti-hyperglycemic activity to protect the diabetics against complications caused by improper management of high blood glucose in a dose depending manner.

Moreover, treatment with BS doses also increased pancreatic antioxidant levels against the pancreatic oxidative stress-induced the death of beta cells with a concomitant decrease in thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances.

Taken altogether, beta-Sitosterol may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of diabetes, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of beta-Sitosterol in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.
