Herbal Therapy: Andrographis, The Best Whole Herb for Reduced Risk and Treatment of Gastric/Stomach Cancer

By Kyle J. Norton

The use of plants for healing purposes has been predated long before the existence of  modern medicine. Herbal plants have formed a fundamental source for conventional medicine in discovery of single ingredient medication, including aspirin (from willow bark), quinine (from cinchona bark), and morphine (from the opium poppy)......

Scientists may have found a chemical constituent isolated from Andrographis paniculata, for reduced risk and treatment of gastric cancer, a respectable institute study suggested.

Andrographis paniculata is also known as Andrographis is a herbaceous plant, genus Andrographis, belonging to the family Acanthaceae, native to India and Sri Lanka, used in traditional Siddha and Ayurvedic in treating the common cold, flu, upper respiratory infections, infectious diseases, diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, pneumonia,....

Gastric/Stomach cancer is condition of abnormal growth of the mucus-producing cells of the inside lining of the stomach. Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of stomach cancer.

According to the joint study lead by the Chosun University, Andrographolide, a natural compound isolated from Andrographis paniculata, exerted a potentiated apoptosis and reduction of the ability of a cell to form clones triggered by recombinant human tumor necrosis factor of signaling systemic inflammation involved immune stimulation.

The study also found that Andrographolide enhances TRAIL(a protein functioning as a ligand in regulated the process of cell death)-induced apoptosis through interfering of cell division through a protein functioning involved the process of cell death and ROS generation in gastric cancer.

Dr. Lim SC, the lead author said, "Exposure of GC cells to andrographolide altered the expression level of several growth-inhibiting and apoptosis-regulating proteins, including death receptors".

Also in support of the analysis of the effects of Andrographis on gastric cancer, the First Affiliated Hospita study suggested, the effect of andrographolide on suppressed on adhesion of gastric cancer cells to the activated endothelial cells through blocking E-selectin(an antigen) expression in response to cancer cells in infiltrated the inflammatory system.

In three gastric cancer cell lines (SGC7901, MGC803, BGC823), with Andrographis significantly decreased gastric cancer cells adherence to stimulated endothelial cells by inhibited the E-selectin expression. through cytokins effect of the immune system.

Taking together, Andrographis paniculata may be used as a therapeutically promising product for reduced risk and treatment of gastric cancer, probably due to procession of Andrographolide, an active compound of the herb, but intake of large amount should only be prescribed by herbalist to avoid toxicity.

Food Therapy: Black Bean, A Potent Anti Breast Cancer Functional Food

By Kyle J. Norton

People who turn to alternative medicine for treatment of disease in avoidance of adverse effects induced by conventional medicine should be patient. In compared to herbal medicine; food therapy even takes longer to ease symptoms in compared to herbal medicine, depending to stage of the treatment which directly address to the cause of disease.

Intake a portion of black bean regularly may reduce risk of early onset and treatment of breast cancer, a renowned institute study suggested.

Breast cancer (malignant breast neoplasm) is a condition of abnormal cell growth in the breast area.

Breast cancer in most cases, starts in the tissues of the breast either from the inner lining of milk ducts (Ductal carcinoma) or the lobules (Lobular carcinoma) that supply the ducts with milk. but in rare instance, breast cancer may arise from other areas of the breast.

Black bean, a small roughly ovoid legumes with glossy black shells, genus Phaseolus, belongings to the family Fabaceae can bought in most grocery stores all around the year in dried and canned forms. It is believed that black bean was first domesticated growth in South America.

In the study of water-soluble condensed tannins isolated from black beans against Hs578T breastc cancer cells, the preparation at 0.24-24 microM  in dose-dependent induced cancer cell death by apoptosis but did not affect the growth of normal cells, as shown by observation assay.

The efficacy of water-soluble black bean condensed tannins at 24 microM in suppressed the breast caner cells may be attributed to the phytochemical in reduced coagulation of remained blood in stimulated cancer cell migration and regulated the growth of breast tumor in formation of new blood vessels.

Furthermore, according to the National Taiwan University, fermentation product of soybean, black bean, and green bean mixture (BN999) showed a significant effect in inhibited the growth of human breast cancer AU565 cells in increased expression of multiple apoptotic regulators in induced apoptosis.

The fermentation product also exerted an impressive activity in induced apoptosis in various human cancer cells but not in normal human cells, Dr, Chia JS, the lead author insisted.

More importantly, Dr. Dong M, the lead researcher at the Cornell University, in the finding of major phytochemicals of black bean which may have a powerful effect in treatment of breast cancer suggested, that out of newly found flavonoids, only 6 (5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 19, 20) of them showed potent antioxidant and antiproliferative activities.against MCF-7 human breast cancer cells.

Taking together, there is no doubt that black bean may process a significant anti breast cancer property and can be considered as a function food for reduced risk and treatment of breast cancer.

Herbal Therapy: Green tea, the Best Immunomodulated Functional Foods

By Kyle J. Norton

The use of plants for healing purposes have been predated long before the existence of modern medicine. Herbal plants have formed a fundamental source for conventional medicine in discovery of single ingredient medication, including aspirin (from willow bark), quinine (from cinchona bark), and morphine (from the opium poppy)......

Green tea is found to consist a strong immunomodulating effect, affecting the innate and adaptive immune systems, a renowned institute study suggested

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" induding weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

According to the Harvard Medical School, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) isolated from green tea expressed a strong effect on T cell functions, including T cell activation, proliferation, differentiation, and production of cytokines.

Injection of the phytochemical in animal model showed significant effects in regulated T cell dysfunction in expression of autoimmune inflammatory diseases as well as ameliorated T cell-mediated autoimmune diseases.

Furthermore, in naïve CD4(+) T cells proliferate and differentiate into different effector subsets, green tea EGCG inhibited the pro inflammatory Th1 and Th17 cells, subsets of Th cells responsible for inducing autoimmunity, thus improving symptoms and reducing the pathology of autoimmune diseases.

Additionally, Dr. Wu D, the lead author said, "(The) protective effect EGCG is associated with the suppressed proliferation of autoreactive T cells, in reduced production of pro-inflammatory cytokines of  Th1 and Th17, and increased T cell regulation populations in lymphoid tissues and central nervous system".

Further evaluation of green tea EGCG effect in regulated CD4(+) T helper (Th) subsets Th1, Th9, and Th17 cells conducted by the Tufts University, potulated that the phytochemical impeded Th1, Th9, and Th17 differentiation in exhibited inflammation by prevented IL-6(the pro inflammatory cytokine)-induced suppression of Treg development.

More importantly, in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) rats, EGCG improved function of CD4(+) T cell through modulated the expression of IL-6 induced cytokin(gp130) in response to auto immune function and cellular response.

Taking together, green tea process a strong immunomodulating effect in reduced risk and treatment of auto inflammatory and immune disease, but long term and large amount intake should be taken with care to prevent toxicity.

Food Therapy: Coffee, the Gout Killer Functional Food

By Kyle J. Norton

People who turn to alternative medicine for treatment of disease in avoidance of adverse effects induced by conventional medicine should be patient. In compared to herbal medicine; food therapy even takes longer to ease symptoms, depending to stages of the treatment which directly address to the cause of disease.

Good News for coffee lovers, coffee consumption daily is associated to reduced risk and treatment of
chronic and recurrent gout. a renowned institute proposed.

Gout mostly effected one joint, is an acute and recurrent condition of arthritis as a result of uric acid building up in blood, inducing joint inflammation.

Coffee, becoming a popular and social beverage all over the world, particular in the West, is a drink made from roast bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

According to the joint study lead by the Central South University, in the review literature of PubMed and EMBASE databases, up to April 2015, out of total of 11 observational studies (6 cross-sectional, 3 cohort and 2 case-control studies), coffee consumption showed a significantly inverse association with incidence of gout.

The study also found out that the efficacy of coffee consumption in reduced risk of gout showed no significant difference between the highest and the lowest coffee intake in terms of serum uric acid (SUA) level.

Additionally, in the total of 45,869 men with no history of gout at baseline with intake of coffee, decaffeinated coffee, tea, and total caffeine evaluated in every 4 years, participants in returned questionnaires  indicated that increasing coffee intake was (1-3, 4-5, and > or = 6 cups per day) inversely associated with the risk of gout depending to numbers of cups consumed daily.

The related risk of gout incidence in coffee drinkers is as low as .41 in compared to non coffee consumed participants.

Most importantly, the total caffeine levels from all sources, including coffee and tea intake showed no associated risk of gout.

Other researchers, in the finding of gout developed, suggested that coffee intake of 4 to 5 and >/=6 cups daily lower risk of gout in compared to no intake (0.26 mg/dl and and 0.43 mg/dl respectively) and total caffeine from coffee and other beverages and tea intake were not associated with serum uric acid levels.

Also, according to the data from 14,758 participants ages >/=20 years in the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1988-1994), coffee consumption is associated to ameliorated serum uric acid level and hyperuricemia frequency.

Taking together, coffee consumption is associated to attenuated risk and treatment of gout caused by elevated serum uric acid level, depending to numbers of cup intake daily.

Food Therapy: Coffee, The Anti Edema Therapeutic Beverage?

By Kyle J. Norton

In compared to herbal medicine, food therapy may take longer than six months to ease symptoms, depending to stage of the treatment which directly address to the cause of disease.

Good news for coffee drinkers, coffee may have a potential effect in reduced risk and treatment of edema, a recent study suggested.

Edema is a condition characterized by excess fluid retained in body's tissues, inducing swelling.

Coffee, becoming a popular and social beverage all over the world, particular in the West, is a drink made from roast bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

According to the joint study lead by the Kyung Hee University, chlorogenic acid (CGA) isolated from coffee exerted protective effects of transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAo) rat model in ameliorated brain infarct volume and brain water content.

The protective effect in reduced on ischemia-induced neuronal damage and brain edema.is attributed to dihydrocaffeic acid (DHCA, formed in metabolism of CGA in inhibited enzymes involved in the degradation of the extracellular matrix, namely MMP2 and MMP-9. in providing structural and biochemical support to the surrounding cells.

In a rat model of transient middle cerebral artery occlusion, CGA directly showed a significantly reduced brain water content, by the inhibitory effects on MMP-2 and MMP-9 activities.

The study also addressed that the attenuation of brain edema may also be effected by the chemical compound's anti lipid peroxidation (LPO) activity through increased antioxidant expression.

Other study in the investigation of anti-inflammatory activity against carrageenan, PGE(2) and serotonin-induced hind paw edema and 12-O-tetradecanoyl-13-acetate (TPA)-induced mouse ear edema models, chlorogenic acid (CGA), also exerted a significant anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive activity against serotonin-induced hind paw edema and TPA-induced mouse ear edema, researchers at the Gazi University postulated.

The findings suggested that coffee may be used as functional and therapeutic beverage for reduced risk and treatment of edema, more studies are necessary to confirm the promising validity.

Study from renowned institute suggested that injection of loe vera may be reduced riak and treatment of oral submucous fibrosis.

Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF or OSF) is a chronic condition involved oral cavity caused by inflammatory reaction and progressive fibrosis of the submucosal tissues.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan. It is very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits, used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol, etc.

According to the Sibar Institute of Dental Sciences, after 3 months of Aloe Vera treatment, patients with oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF or OSF) showed a reduced levels of burning sensation and improved mouth opening.

In a total of 20 patients with oral submucous fibrosis, 10 in each group; group A subjects received 5 mg of aloe vera applied topically three times daily for 3 months and group B subjects received antioxidant capsules twice daily for 3 months study, group treated with aloe vera showed a statistically significant improvement of symptoms in comparison to control group.

Dr. Sudarshan R, the lead researcher in the study said, ". Aloe vera showed a statistically significant reduction in burning sensation (P = 0.008), improvement in mouth opening (P = 0.02), and cheek flexibility (P = 0.01) on comparing with the antioxidant group".

In support of the above differentiation, a double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group randomized controlled trial conducted on 60 subjects with OSMF by Institute of Dental Sciences, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, insisted that group receiving aloe vera had a significant improvement in most symptoms of OSMF (P < .01) compared with the non-aloevera group,

Other researchers suggested that the analgesic effects aloe vera in reduced symptoms and treatment of oral submucous fibrosis should be accompanied with proper habit restriction together with physiotherapy exercises.

The study also emphasized the effectiveness of treatment in ameliorated symptoms, such as burning sensation,  mouth opening, tongue protrusion and cheek flexibility in comparison to other treatment groups.

Taking together, no doubt, aloe vera is effective in attenuated symptoms and treatment of patient with oral submucous fibrosis, but intake of large amount should only be prescribed by herbalist.
