The use of plants for healing purposes has been predated long before the existence of  modern medicine. Herbal plants have formed a fundamental source for conventional medicine in discovery of single ingredient medication, including aspirin (from willow bark), quinine (from cinchona bark), and morphine (from the opium poppy)......

Study from renowned institute suggested that injection of loe vera may be reduced riak and treatment of oral submucous fibrosis.

Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF or OSF) is a chronic condition involved oral cavity caused by inflammatory reaction and progressive fibrosis of the submucosal tissues.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan. It is very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits, used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol, etc.

According to the Sibar Institute of Dental Sciences, after 3 months of Aloe Vera treatment, patients with oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF or OSF) showed a reduced levels of burning sensation and improved mouth opening.

In a total of 20 patients with oral submucous fibrosis, 10 in each group; group A subjects received 5 mg of aloe vera applied topically three times daily for 3 months and group B subjects received antioxidant capsules twice daily for 3 months study, group treated with aloe vera showed a statistically significant improvement of symptoms in comparison to control group.

Dr. Sudarshan R, the lead researcher in the study said, ". Aloe vera showed a statistically significant reduction in burning sensation (P = 0.008), improvement in mouth opening (P = 0.02), and cheek flexibility (P = 0.01) on comparing with the antioxidant group".

In support of the above differentiation, a double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group randomized controlled trial conducted on 60 subjects with OSMF by Institute of Dental Sciences, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, insisted that group receiving aloe vera had a significant improvement in most symptoms of OSMF (P < .01) compared with the non-aloevera group,

Other researchers suggested that the analgesic effects aloe vera in reduced symptoms and treatment of oral submucous fibrosis should be accompanied with proper habit restriction together with physiotherapy exercises.

The study also emphasized the effectiveness of treatment in ameliorated symptoms, such as burning sensation,  mouth opening, tongue protrusion and cheek flexibility in comparison to other treatment groups.

Taking together, no doubt, aloe vera is effective in attenuated symptoms and treatment of patient with oral submucous fibrosis, but intake of large amount should only be prescribed by herbalist.

Aloe Vera has shown to express to the antibacterial infection and scavenging properties with the rate of over 75% in compared to ascorbic acid (92%) a renowned institute suggested.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorroeaceae, native to Sudan used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol, etc. The plant is very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits,

Antioxidants are the set of molecules with functions in binding the production of free radicals causes of oxidative stress to the body and fighting against the invasion of bacterial organism.

According to the Monash University Malaysia, Aloe vera bioactive compounds exerted inhibited effects against numbers of bacterial strands, particular in Bacillus (20.7%), Pseudomonas (20.7%) and Enterobacter (13.8%).

Dr. Akinsanya MA, the lead author in the joint study suggested that the efficacy of Aloe Vera is the result of the production of bioactive compounds with high DPPH, (organic chemical compound with) scavenging properties (75-88%).

In fact, in vitro, the testing various phytochemicals such as total phenolic content antioxidant activity, A. vera methanolic leaf extracts exhibited a strong antioxidant activities in free radical scavenging assay, metal chelating assay, hydrogen peroxide scavenging assay.

Although, Aloe Vera may have a significant antioxidant property but different agro-climatic conditions may effect the total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant potential of the plant.

The findings that Aloe Vera has exerted the antioxidant effects in various aspects, but intake of large amount should be taken with care.

Food Therapy: Black Bean, A Potent Anti Diabetes whole Food Medicine

By Kyle J. Norton

People who turn to alternative medicine for treatment of disease in avoidance of adverse effects induced by conventional medicine should be patient. In compared to herbal medicine; food therapy even takes longer than six months to ease symptoms, depending to stage of the treatment which directly address to the cause of disease.

Black bean with abundant phytochemicals and fibers may be considered as function food in reduced risk and treatment of diabetes, a renowned university postulated.

Black bean, a small roughly ovoid legumes with glossy black shells, genus Phaseolus, belongings to the family Fabaceae can bought in most grocery stores all around the year in dried and canned forms. It is believed that black bean was first domesticated growth in South America.

Diabetes is a medical condition ccharacterozed by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose. It is either caused by cells in pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol. In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.

According to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, bioactive peptides protein isolated from black bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) exhibited anti-diabetic activity by inhibiting important molecular markers, a particular sequence of DNA related to diabetes.

The study also stressed that certain types of peptides showed some degrees of different inhibitory potential on α-glucosidase, in compared to others.

In C57BL/6J Mice fed a High-Fat Diet, black adzuki bean (BAB) extract exerted significantly anti diabetic effects in improved pancreatic β cells function in maintained mediation of normal glucose.

Furthermore, mice fed with dietary supplementation of black bean extract also significantly enhanced hyperglycemia and homeostasis measured by insulin resistance index, observed by expression of glucose intolerance, and regulated insulin secretion.

More importantly, in the comparison of protective effects of black bean peel extract (BBPE), pomegranate peel extract (PPE) and a combination of the two (PPE + BBPE) on streptozotocin-induced DM mice, mice treated with black bean or combination of black bean showed a strong improvement of fasting blood glucose and insulin levels, and pancreas weight index exerted through antioxidant in reduced oxidative expression.

Mice treated with PPE + BBPE also indicated a positive influence in ameliorated oxidative stress-against damage of pancreatic islets.

The finding evidences suggested that black bean, as a functional food may have a potential and therapeutic effect in prevention and treatment of diabetes.

Food Therapy: Coffee(3 to 5 Cups/ Day) Has A Maximum Effect in Reduced Risk of Cardiovascular Disease

By Kyle J. Norton

In compared to herbal medicine, food therapy even takes longer than six months to ease symptoms, depending to stages of the treatment which directly address to the cause of disease.

Coffee consumers may have one less risk to worry about. A recent study by well known institute suggested that long term and moderate coffee consumption is inversely associated with CVD risk.

Coffee, becoming a popular and social beverage all over the world, particular in the West, is a drink made from roast bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Cardiovascular disease is a medical condition characterized by heart attack, chest pain (angina) or stroke caused by narrow blood vessels induced block blood.

In the review of literature existed from the data base involved prospective cohort studies of the relationship between coffee consumption and CVD risk, 36 satisfied the guidelines included studies, with 1 279 804 participants and 36 352 CVD cases, coffee drinkers have a nonlinear association to risk of CVD, depending to numbers of cup intake per day.

According to the joint study lead by the Harvard School of Public Health, the relative risk of cardiovascular disease in coffee consumption was .95 in compared with the 0 cup of coffee consumption per day.

Dr. Ding M, the lead author in the review said, "oderate coffee consumption was inversely significantly associated with CVD risk, with the lowest CVD risk at 3 to 5 cups per day, and heavy coffee consumption was not associated with elevated CVD risk".

In fact, long term moderate coffee consumptions not only reduced risk of heart disease, but also ameliorated other conditions associated with CV risk factors such as obesity and depression. However, the affect of caffeine in lipid file may associate to endothelial function in increased CVD risk, depending to how the coffee is prepared.

More importantly, epidemiological studies also suggest that risks of mortality in both CV and all-causes are substantially attenuated in regular coffee drinkers.

Furthermore, other researchers insisted that the health benefits of coffee consumption regarding cardiovascular system risk, mostly depend on its antioxidant compounds involved many factors, such as variety of coffee species, roasting degree, type of brewing method and serving size.

Since most of the data on coffee's health effects are based on observational data, risk of high caffeine adverse effects such as anxiety, insomnia, tremulousness, and palpitations have rarely be mentioned, therefore, more randomized, controlled studies are necessary, some researchers suggested.

Food Therapy: Beet, Reduced Risk of Cardiovascular Disease by Balancing Endothelial Function

By Kyle J. Norton

In compared to herbal medicine; food therapy even takes longer than six months to ease symptoms, depending to stage of the treatment which directly address to the cause of disease.

Beetroot with rich in inorganic nitrate may be used as dietary supplementation or functional food to improve endothelial function via reduced expression of harmful free radicals, a respectable institute study illustrated.

The endothelium is a thin membrane lined the inside of the heart and blood vessels with function in control vascular relaxation and contraction, as well as enzymes that control blood clotting, immune function and platelet adhesion.

Endothelial dysfunction, due to the inability of the arteries to dilate fully, may exhibit high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol.... in promoting stroke and heart attacks.

Beet, best known as the beetroot or garden beet, belonging to the amaranth family, is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall.

In a total of 20 healthy overweight and slightly obese men with a BMI between 28 and 35 kg/m(2) received in random order a mixed meal of 56.6 g of fat with beetroot juice or a control drink, oral administration of beetroot juice (140 mL) with approximately 500 mg dietary nitrate group, showed a significant improvement of postprandial endothelial function in compared control.

The efficacy of beet juice in attenuated postprandial impairment of flow-mediated dilation (FMD) following a mixed meal, probably due to the expression of increased plasma NO concentrations in the blood stream, according to the Maastricht University Medical Center.

Furthermore, beet roots with biological activity provided a natural source of nitric oxide (NO) in reduced risk of endothelium dysfunction inducing the imbalance between vasodilation and vasoconstriction of arterial vessels.

The study also suggested that phytochemical betalain isolated from beetroot may also hold a significant effect in maintain healthy endothelium function, acting simultaneously with increasing levels of nitric oxide (NO).

More importantly, the review database of literature fromMEDLINE, EMBASE and Scopus databases from inception until November 2014, 9 crossover trials and three parallel trials met inctlusion criteria, included a total of 246 participants with 10-64 participants per study, also indicated the efficacy of inorganic nitrate and beetroot consumption in reduced risk of cardiovascular disease by improved vascular function. But the effect on endothelial function was significantly associated with the dose depended of inorganic nitrate, found abundantly in the vegetable

The finding evidences indicated that beetroot may be considered as a promising therapeutic treatment in ameliorated risk of cardiovascular disease through improvement of vascular and endothelial functions.

Herbal Therapy: Aloe Vera, the Natural Whole Food in Inhibited HSV-1(Herpes simplex)

By Kyle J. Norton

Aloe vera may be the next potential topical medicine used for treatment of oral HSV-1 infections without exerting any toxicity, the study by the renowned institute suggested.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan. It has become very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits, used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol, etc.

Herpes simplex is a contagious disease caused by human herpes virus 1 and 2, the 2  members of the herpes virus family.

According to the joint study lead by the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, gel extraction with concentrations of Aloe vera (0.2, 0.5, 1, 2, and 5%) exhibited anti-HSV-1 activity assessed by plaque reduction assay.

Dr. Rezazadeh F, the lead author of the study said, "The inhibitory effect of various concentrations of Aloe vera was observed one hour after the Vero cell was infected with HSV-1. However, there was no significant difference between two serial concentrations".

Acemannan, an extracted polysaccharide from Aloe vera, has shown to exhibited antiviral activities against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), in vivo through activation of immune responses.

Combination with azidothymidine(an antiretroviral medication) and acyclovir(an antiviral medication) administration acted synergistically to inhibit the replication of HIV-1 and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), respectively.

In fact, the effects of the combination against U1 cells infected with HIV-1, are also attributed to the function of blocking the potentiate of virus replication without inducing toxicity.

Although Aloe Vera have shown to inhibit the replication of HSV-1 activity through its anti viral property, more precised understanding of the biological activities is necessary before developping Aloe vera as a pharmaceutical source.

By Kyle J. Norton

Good news to people with hypertension, Aloe Vera may be a potential and therapeutic agent for lowering high blood pressure a renowned University study suggested.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan. It has become very popular for commercial cultivation due to enormous health benefits. Aloe vera has also been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, anhe d elevated of cholesterol, etc.

Hypertension is a condition of abnormal high blood pressure, leading to symptoms of headaches, shortness of breath or nosebleeds......

According to the Hamdard University ,aloeemodin, aloin A, a chemical compound found in Aloe Vera showed to express hypotensive effects by lower mean arterial blood pressure by 26 %, 52 %, and 79 % in the corresponding doses of 0.5, 1, and 3 mg/kg in animal study.

Dr. Saleem R, the lead author of the study suggested that Aloeemodin has emerged as a potent hypotensive agent in current pharmacological investigation.

In a total of In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study, healthy, Aloe-emodin, another major chemical compound\ inhibited vascular smooth muscle stiffness, a condition in the development of hypertensio, involved cell in support structural and biochemical and interior surface of blood vessels.

In hypertension, increased large-artery stiffness is partly due to intrinsic mechanical properties of vascular smooth muscle cells.

More importantly, a smooth muscle cells derived from hypertensive and control rats study, treatment of Aloe-emodin also significantly reduced hypertension by improving elastic value of vascular smooth muscle cell , through it effects on vascular smooth muscle cell cytoskeletal proteins in regulated function of cell division.

Other researchers suggested that the anti hypertensive properties of Aloe-emodin may be a result of inhibition of tonic tension and regulated apoptosis, pro- and anti-apoptotic activities on vascular smooth muscle cells.

With all the information collected,  Aloe Vera may have an anti hypertensive effect in regulated protein in cell production on vascular smooth muscle which is a main cause of high blood pressure, but more precised understanding may be necessary to reassess this pharmaceutical value.
