Tanshinones and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOs)
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is defined as
endocrinologic diseases caused by undeveloped follicles clumping on the
ovaries that interferes with the function of the normal ovaries as
resulting of enlarged ovaries, leading to hormone imbalance( excessive
androgen), resulting in male pattern
hair development, acne, irregular period or absence of period, weight
gain and effecting fertility. It effects over 5% of women population or 1
in 20 women.
Tanshinones, is chemical component in Salvia miltiorrhiza (Dan Shen) which is a perennial plant in the genus Salvia, Native to China and Japan. The popular herb has been used in traditional Chinese medicine in treating dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, palpable tumors, angina, restlessness, insomnia, irritability, etc..
The effects
The effects of cryptotanshinone in patients with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOs) is found to decrease excessive androgens by inhibiting steroid hormone production in the theca cells in the ovary as well as improving insulin resistance and glucose metabolism mediated by its dual regulation of key molecules during both insulin signaling and androgen synthesis within prenatally androgenized ovaries. As the results, cryptotanshinone isolated from Salvia miltiorrhiza (Dan Shen) may be considered as a naturally derived compound with potential to prove effective in eradicating PCOS symptomatology in women.
The Side effects
1. The herb alcoholic extract may cause severe itching, stomachache, or reduced appetite
2. Dan shen may interact with other blood thinning medicine such as warfarin, heparin, etc.
3. Consume Dan Shen with Soy or sao products can reduce the effectiveness of the herb
4. Do not use the herb in newborn, children or if you are pregnant or breast feeding without consulting first with the related field specialist

Herbal Arctostaphylos uva-ursi and endometrial cancer
Arctostaphylos uva-ursi is one of the species of Bearberry, in the genus Arctostaphylos, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to the
northern North America, Asia and Europe. The herb has been used in
traditional medicine as diuretic agent and to treat urinary problems,
including bladder infections, kidney infection, kidney stone, pelvic
pain, etc.
Endometrium is the inner lining of the mammalian uterus and very susceptible hormone change, particular to menstrual cycle. Endometrial cancer is a late adulthood cancer defined as a condition of which the cells of the endometrial lining of uterus have growth uncontrollable or become cancerous as a result of the alternation of cells DNA. It's the fourth most common cancer among women overall, after breast cancer, lung cancer, and bowel cancer.
The Ingredients It contains arbutin, ursolic acid, tannic acid, gallic acid, some essential oil and resin, hydroquinones tannins, phenolic glycosides and flavonoids.
The benefits
Ursolic acid, a pentacyclic triterpene acid, extracted from bearberry is found to be effective in inhibition of the growth of endometrial cancer cell HEC108 line, in a dose- and time-dependent manner. As exposure of Ursolic acid decreased the anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 protein levels (member of the Bcl-2 family of regulator proteins that regulate cell death) but increased Bax expression (upregulated by the tumor suppressor protein p53,) through a mitochondrial pathway, of that induced apoptosis of endometrial cancer HEC108 line. Other in the study of the same but with inendometrial cancer SNG-II cells, ursolic acid strongly inhibited the growth of SNG-II cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. The induced apoptotic processes in the endometrial cancer SNG-II cells is also involved mitochondrial pathways and Bcl-2 family proteins.
The Side effect
1. Overdoses may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, including cause nausea, vomiting, etc. and fever, chills, severe back pain, ringing in the ears, etc.
2. The herb may interact with other medicine, including diuretic
3. Do not use the herb in new born, children or if you are pregnant or breast feeding without approval from the related field specialist.

Cruciferous vegetables and Prostate cancer
Cruciferous vegetables are the group of vegetables belonging to the
family Brassicaceae, including cauliflower, cabbage, cress, bok choy,
broccoli etc.
Broccoli is a mustard/cabbage plant, belong to the family Brassicaceae. It has large flower heads, usually green in color and the mass of flower heads is surrounded by leaves and evolved from a wild cabbage plant on the continent of Europe.
Prostate cancer is defined as a condition in which the cells of prostate has become cancerous, causing abnormal cell growth which spread to the distant parts of the body. Most prostate cancers are slow growing and enlarged prostate and prostate cancer may be detected during the Physical (rectum) exams.
Nutrients and chemical constituents

23. Etc.
Its chemical constutuents include glucosinolates, dithiolthiones, indoles , glucoraphanin, s-methyl cysteine sulfoxide, isothiocyanates, indole-3-carbinol, etc..
The benefits
Epidemiologically, chemical constituents of cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli has shown to decrease incidence of prostate cancer. The depletion of gene of GSTM1 genotype of Glutathione S-transferase (GST) enzymes may be associated with an increased risk of cancer as these depletion reduced the function of GST in detoxifying certain potentially carcinogenic compounds. Study of broccoli involved the changes in global gene expression patterns in the human prostate gland before, during and after a 12 month broccoli-rich diet, showed broccoli enhances the detoxified function of GSTM1 genotype resulting in complex changes to signalling pathways associated with inflammation and carcinogenesis in the prostate, through the interaction from the breakdown of glucosinolates— sulfur-containing compounds found in cruciferous vegetables with a signal
sequence in the plasma. In other study, the effects of potent
sulforaphane of isothiocyanates (ITCs) in broccoli, consistently found
to be associated with reduced risk of prostate
cancer, especially among men with GSTM1-present alleles, and may be used as chemopreventive agents against
prostate cancer, with two or more servings per month.
Other study insisted that Selenium-enriched broccoli sprouts were superior to normal broccoli sprouts in inhibiting cell proliferation, decreasing prostate-specific antigen secretion, and inducing apoptosis of prostate cancer cells.
