The Anti Migraine Diet That Works, Scientists Say

Migraine is one most common headaches characterized by chronic neurological disorder of moderate to severe headaches, and nausea that usually develop gradually over 5–20 minutes and last for less than 60 minutes.

The condition effects over 15% population in US, as a result of the change in the brain and its surrounding blood vessels.

Some researchers suggested that dietary and gastrointestinal issues have a significantly impact in clinical expression of migraine, including gut dysfunction during and between attacks, food triggers, increase in migraine with obesity, comorbid GI and systemic inflammation influenced by diet, and specific food allergies such as dairy and gluten(1).

And, care givers and practitioners not only need to encourage migraineurs to seek consistency in their lifestyle behaviors, and environmental exposures, as a way of avoiding sudden changes that may precipitate attacks(1) but also must remind them to avoid suspected foods that trigger, consistently(1).

Believe it or not, according to statistic and research, migraine headaches have caused substantial individual impact on work productivity and increased a significantly societal burden to direct medical costs, lost work time(2).

And in more severe persistent migraine, the lost work time costs greatly exceed medical care costs(2).

Most common symptoms during migraine attacks include pain on one side or both sides of the head and pain that feels throbbing or pulsing.

Some patients during attacks also experience symptoms of  light,  sounds, smells and touch sensitivity.

In some cases, the attack also induces symptoms of nausea and vomiting. blurred vision..... and  lightheadedness.

Diet for Migraine headache
Certain diet may trigger the attack of migraine due to allergic reaction in certain people, but the below suggested foods may be helpful to people who experience migraine with no allergic effects.
1. Water
Water, an essential for the body’s proper functioning, and dehydration may trigger the migraine attack.

In a study of 50 migraineurs were asked if insufficient fluid intake could provoke their migraine attacks conducted by The City of London Migraine Clinic, researchers found that twenty replied "yes," 7 were doubtfully positive, and 23 said "no."

In addition  of 14 of 45 migraineurs at a meeting of the British Migraine association (UK) also recognized fluid deprivation as one of their migraine triggers.(E.C.1).

Therefore, adding fluid deprivation to migraine patient may reduce the numbers of migraine attacks.

2. Fish oil 
Omega-3 PUFA, from fish oil-eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) process anti-inflammatory properties of which are useful in the management of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, psoriasis, lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis and migraine headaches.(E.C.2)

3. Broccoli
Broccoli is a very good source of magnesium and a good source of calcium.

Magnesium, plays an essential in many intracellular processes and in migraine pathogenesis. Low levels of magnesium may promote cortical spreading depression, hyperaggregation of platelets, affect serotonin receptor function, and influence synthesis and release of a variety of neurotransmitters of which can trigger migraine headache(B.A.8)

4. Sardines
Sardines contain measurable amount of Omega 3 fatty acid, calcium and CoQ10 with function in  in reduced frequency of migraine headache (E.B.3)(E.B.2)

5. Spinach
Spinach is an excellent source of both calcium, magnesium, vitamin B2 (riboflavin).

Riboflavin therapy supplemented may be appropriate alternatives in patients with migraine disorder as it significant decreases in headachefrequency, intensity, duration and medication intake (E.C.7)

6. Mustard Greens
The World's Healthiest Foods recommends mustard greens as an excellent source of calcium and a very good source of magnesium which is important in preventing and treating migraine headache (See E.B.1 and 2)

7. Fish
Beside rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, all fish contain more or less DL-phenylalanine, an essential amino acid of which is important for our body converts phenylalanine to tyrosine, another amino acid then to epinephrine and norepinephrine, which are important brain chemicals called neurotransmitters.

Some researchers suggest that DL-phenylalanine(DLPA) appears to potentiate pain relief and ease depression in patients receiving opiates for chronic non-malignant pain(E.C.9).

Green Tea, a Drink That Relieves Acute and Chronic Constipation

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in prevention and treatment of acute and chronic constipation, some scientists suggested.

Constipation, a most common complain of people of all age in US,  is a condition characterized by infrequent bowel movements.

People with the condition may experience symptoms of abdominal pain, bloating, and particularly in feeling of incompletely passed the bowel movement.

In case of chronic constipation, according to Mayo Clinic, symptoms may also include passing fewer 3 stools per week, having lumpy or hard stools, straining to have bowel movements, feeling as though there's a blockage in your rectum,.... and. feeling as though you can't completely empty the stool from your rectum(5).

According to general belief, constipation is associated to poor diet and physical inactive lifestyle.

In other words, eating too much junk food and lack of exercise are the common causes of constipation.

Some researchers suggested, "Difficulties with bowel function are common and may be due to several causes including slow colonic transit and obstructed defecation" and "Improvements over the past few years in our understanding of the complex process of defecation, along with the increasing use of radiological and anorectal physiology studies, have led to improved treatment results"(6).

Slow colonic transit is the  process of uncoordination of the enteric neurons and gastrointestinal muscle and stool can not moves through the small and large intestine(6).

Obstructed defecation, is a condition of difficult emptying the rectum, occurred even with frequent visits to the toilet and even with passing soft motions.(6).

Truly, besides the common causes of unhealthy diet and life style, risk factors of constipation also include
* Socioenvironmental factors
 According to a territory-wide cross-sectional questionnaire survey conducted in 2318 Hong Kong Chinese elementary school students. socioenvironmental factors are associated with childhood constipation, including children who lived with neither parent, had inadequate company of parents at home, refused to pass bowel movements in school, spent long hours doing homework, had inadequate sleep, and had decreased fiber intake and frequent consumption of fast food(7). 

* Hormonal factors
Constipation may be caused by hormone imbalance, such as disturbance in the serotonin transmission system, which results in a cascade of alterations in a number of gut neuroendocrine hormones/transmitters(8). 

* Medication factors
Certain medication intake also may induce the condition, including opoid pain relievers like (Morphine, Codeine), anti-cholinergic (Atropine), Trihexiphenidyl Antispasmodics (Dicyclomine),........ and Tricyclic antidepressants(Amytriptyline).

According to statistic, constipation affects 1/6 people over 12 years old in Canada.

Green tea, is a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome", according to traditional Chinese medicine.

In the examine the effects of Pu-erh tea on constipation in ICR mice induced by carbon injection researchers found that mice in control group without administrated Pu-erh green tea expressed a significant weight loss, food and water intake in compared to experiment group.

In compared to first black stool time of normal group of 90 min, control (injection of carbon) of 221 min and bisacodyl treatment group (100 mg/kg in control group) of 118 min, mice in control group treated with green tea at doses of 200, 400 and 800 mg/kg showed an improved stool passing time of 178, 155 and 139 min, respectively.

*. Endothelin (ET), a peptide hormone with function in contraction of rat stomach strips, rat colon, and guinea pig ileum;
*. Acetylcholine enzyme (AchE) chemical released by motor neurons of the nervous system in order to activate muscles;
* Substance P (SP) a amino-acids peptide in induction of rapid contraction of the smooth muscle of the digestive tract and
*. Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), a potent vasodilator, in regulated smooth muscle activity and blood flow in the gastrointestinal tract.

And decrease of somatostatin (SS) hormone in reduced gastric acid secretion and emission of gastrointestinal hormones, such as gastrin.

Additionally, in comparison of 2 types of commonly used osmotic laxative polyethylene glycol (PEG), namely PEG with electrolytes mixed with water and PEG without electrolytes mixed with tea or other sources such as juice and coffee for taste, researchers at the Pirkanmaan Erikoislääkäripalvelu conducted a randomized, double-blind, parallel-group study at ten private assisted-living facilities or communal nursing homes in Finland.

Selected patients were.required to have used isotonic PEG at a stable dose without any other treatment for constipation (except for Plantago ovata seeds) for at least 2 weeks prior to a run-in period and randomly assigned receive hypotonic PEG or continued to receive isotonic PEG, both dissolved in water, 12 g once or twice daily or once every other day, for 4 weeks.

At the end of the experience periods, researchers found that the mean (SD) weekly stool frequencies are not different in both hypotonic and isotonic PEG groups, although soft or normal stool consistency of 70% was higher in the hypotonic PEG group in compared to 52% in isotonic PEG group.


Moreover, both products are considered safe without inducing stool straining or gastrointestinal symptoms, although level of sodium was statistically and significantly lower in the hypotonic PEG group at the last day of testing of the study in compared to other group.

Dr. Seinelä L, after taking into account of other co factors said, "Both treatments appear safe, well tolerated and, when dissolved in water, well accepted by the majority of the patients. When desired, switching from isotonic to hypotonic PEG can safely take place in elderly individuals without compromising efficacy".

However, a total of 1,705 female Japanese dietetic students aged 18-20 years and free of current disease studies suggested the intake of tea is associated to constipation(3) without mentioning types of tea used in the surveys.

According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, green tea is yin in nature with function in relieved indigestion and smoothed bowel movements through promotion of fluid production(4) and constipation is a result of over expression of yang or deficiency of yin, therefore, we do believe, the tea mentioned in the study were red, black or herbal tea with yang sufficiency.

Taken together, green tea may be considered as a functional food for prevention and treatment of constipation.

Intake of green tea extracts should be taken with exceptional care due to toxicity reported in medical literature.

In vivo, immunotoxicity testing, BALB/c male mice treated once a day with 125, 500 or 1250 mg/kg of U. tomentosa extract for 28 days, increased the number of T helper lymphocytes and B lymphocytes.

The whole herb medicine also significantly exerted a large stimulatory effect on lymphocyte(a form of small white blood cell) viability.

Other study involved C57BL/6 male mice injected with MLDS (40 mg/kg) orally treated with UT at 10-400mg/kg during 21 days, showed to express a significant protection against the loss of insulin-secreting presented β-cells, through modulated the production of two helper T cell classes, known as Th1 and Th2, with increased levels of type-2 T helper cells and mast cells, known as IL-5 and the protein regulated activities of white blood cells known as IL-2.

Further linking Interleukin-2 effected on type I diabetes, the study of Interleukin-2 and type 1 diabetes and several autoimmune diseases suggested that depended on interleukin-2 (IL-2) in proliferating and controlling the T effector cells (Teff) reaction, low dose IL-2 treatment at the initial time of diabetes can rescue insulin secretion by restoring proteins expression.

Dr. Rosenzwajg M, the lead author said, " Regulatory T cells (Tregs) play a major role in controlling effector T cells (Teffs) responding to self-antigens, which cause autoimmune diseases.,....and expanding/activating Tregs with low-dose interleukin-2 (IL-2) could provide immunoregulation without immunosuppression"

Cat's Claw may be effective in protein regulated activities of white blood cells, known as IL-2 through improvement of immune function in induced immunosuppression cause of Type I diabetes, but the quantity intake should only be prescribed by professional herbalist to prevent toxicity.

However, further data collection on studies performed with human consumption during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of its anti type 1 diabetes possibilities.

In South East Asian, prostate cancer is considered a disease of aging male, now has become major concerns of governments and scientific community, because of its tendency to affect even younger age population.

Some researchers that the disease is the result of over consumption of bad fats accompanied with unhealthy diet and  life style, linking directly to the economic prosperity over 3 decades.

Some people who  have made a lot of money.in that region in past 3 decades are Western diet followers. Therefore, they are also susceptible to the diseases of Western world.

Dr. Salinas CA, the lead author at the joint studies led by the University of Michigan Medical School, said, "Prostate cancer is considered a disease of older men (aged >65 years), but today over 10% of new diagnoses in the USA occur in young men aged ≤55 years"(1).

Most of the younger age patients who have prostate cancer are diagnosed with low-risk of the disease. Although early diagnosis may increase chance of survival but these people may expose to long-term effects of treatment-related morbidities and risk of disease progression that can lead to death from prostate cancer(1).

Prostate cancer is a medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the prostate tissue. At the later state, the cancerous cells may travel a distance away from the original site to infect other healthy tissue or organ.

Besides inherited genes such as RNASEL and BRCA1 and BRCA2 that increase risk of prostate cancer, researchers do not know what causes prostate cancer. Howevover, there are numbers of risk factor which may increase risk of prostate cancer onset, including age, family history, obesity,...unhealthy diet.

Most prostate cancers are slow growing. Enlarged prostate and prostate cancer may be detected during physical (rectum) exams.

People in the early stage of prostate cancer may experience no symptoms. However, as the cancer progress, patient may encounter problems of urinating, blood in the urine or semen, trouble getting an erection (erectile dysfunction or ED), pain in the hips, back (spine), chest (ribs), or other areas from cancer that has spread to bones.... and numbness in the legs or feet(3)

In some serious cases, patient may also loss bladder or bowel control if the tumor is pressing on the spinal cord.

Application of berry juice study, including strawberry, inhibited prostate cancer cell proliferation, not involve caspase-dependent apoptosis, but in cell-cycle arrest, by down-regulation of the expression of cdk4, cdk6, cyclin D1 and cyclin D3(Decrease the proliferative activity (55).

Crude extracts (250 microg/mL) from strawberry and its pure compounds (100 microg/mL) also induced apoptosis of prostate (LNCaP, DU145) cancer cells(57).

5. Grapes
Grape is a woody vines of the genus Vitis, belongings to the family Vitaceae, native to southern Turkey.

Fisetin, a chemical compound found in grape inhibited prostate cancer cell lines through downregulation of the PI3K/Akt (anti-apoptosis and increased cell proliferation)and the mTOR(energy sources) pathways(58).

Another chemical constituent pterostilbene, in dose-dependent ameliorated cellular proliferation, through activation of expression of AMPK(cellular energy homeostasis) and the p53(antigens).

But in p53 positive LNCaP cells, pterostilbene blocked the progression of cell cycle at G1 phase by inducing p53 expression and further up-regulating p21 expression and in p53 negative, induced apoptosis in PC3 cells(59).

Piceatannol found in grape, exhibited potential anticancer properties by suppressing proliferation of a wide variety of tumor cells, through cell-cycle arrest, upregulation of antibody antigens and apoptotic activity and down-regulation of cancer cell proliferation(60).

6. Apple
Apple is the pomaceous fruit of the apple tree, a species of the rose family Rosaceae, cultivated tree fruits. The tree is originated in Central Asia.

Apple peel extract (APE), exerted its anti cancer effects by significant decrease growth and enhanced clonogenic survival of human prostate carcinoma CWR22Rnu1 and DU145 cells, through a G0-G1(Cell cycle) phase arrest(61).

7. Papaya

8. Apricot

Ethanolic extracts (30%) of apricot inhibited the growth of PC-3 and LNCaP (Prostate cancer cell lines) cells through induction of apoptosis via down regulating ERalpha (estrogen receptor α), ) and PKC-alpha(interaction with the cell membrane) protein, and binding of both mouse uterine estrogen receptors and LNCaP human androgen receptors(66).

9. Avocado

Whole-blood fatty acids testing indicated that higher intakes of dietary MUFA(monounsaturated fatty) with principal source of dietary avocadointake was inversely related to prostate cancer(67).

Acetone extract of avocado, containing carotenoids and tocopherols decreased growth of both androgen-dependent (LNCaP) and androgen-independent (PC-3) prostate cancer cell lines in vitro.

Incubation of PC-3 cells with the avocado extract led to G(2)/M cell cycle arrest accompanied by an increase in p27(cell cycle inhibitor) protein expression(68).

10. Citrus fruits
The fruit is the genus Citrus, native to southern and southeast Asia, include grapefruit, lemon, orange, etc.

Study of incidence of prostate caner in North India compared to South India, showed a positive decreased risk of prostate cancer in increasing dietary consumption of tea, citrus fruits and melon(69).

Citrus consumption is associated with reduced all-cancer incidences, according to the study of cancer incidence among 42,470 Japanese adults in the Ohsaki National Health Insurance Cohort(70).

Oral administration of Gold Lotion (GL), an extract of multiple varieties of citrus peels containing abundant flavonoid, showed the deduction of both the weights (57%-100% inhibition) and volumes (78%-94% inhibition) of the tumors without inducing any adverse toxicity, accompanied by mechanistic down-regulation of the protein levels of inflammatory enzymes (inducible nitric oxide synthase, iNOS and cyclooxygenase-2, COX-2), metastasis (matrix metallopeptidase-2, MMP-2 and MMP-9), angiogenesis (vascular endothelial growth factor, VEGF), and proliferative molecules, as well as inducing apoptosis in prostate tumors(71).

Unfortunately, some studies did not show an association between intake of citrus fruits and risk of prostate cancer(72).

11. Bitter melon
Bitter melon, a extremely bitter fruit, is a tropical and subtropical vine belongings to the family Cucurbitaceae, native in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean.

Taken altogether, the  findings suggested that certain fruits and theirs bioactive compound may have a strong impact in reduced risk, progression and treatment of prostate cancer. However, due to limitation of the sample, a large cohost study with larger sample size are necessary to reconfirm their viability.

The Magic Bean That Processes Anti Chronic Diseases' Activities

The use of plants for healing purposes has been predated long before the existence of modern medicine.

Recent study suggested regular intake of kidney bean may have a potential effect in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases.

Chronic diseases are medical conditions that last more than 3 months or more and can not be cured.

According to WHO in the article of "Noncommunicable diseases" suggested, "The four main types of noncommunicable diseases are cardiovascular diseases (like heart attacks and stroke), cancers, chronic respiratory diseases (such as chronic obstructed pulmonary disease and asthma) and diabetes"(4).

Some chronic conditions also are correlated to other diseases, such as  chronic conditions of high blood cholesterol and pressure are associated to increase risk of heart attack and stroke.

According to the Center for diseases control and prevention statistic, approximately, over 117 million people worldwide had one or more chronic health conditions. And 1 in 4 adults had two or more chronic health conditions(5).

The chronic diseases are the 7th most common causes of death in 2014(5).

Although most common causes of chronic condition are either debatable or depending to types of condition. However, some researchers suggested that physical activity, poor nutrition, tobacco use, and excessive alcohol drinking are the most common risk factors.

Chronic diseases today have become a burden of the health care system, according to CDC. In US, the conditions cost over 68% of annual health care expenditures of $2.7 trillion(5).

Depending to types of chronic condition, patients may experience some correlated symptoms
* In Patients with cardiovascular diseases, the symptoms include chest pain, chest tightness, chest pressure and chest discomfort (angina),....and shortness of breath.

* Depending to types of cancer, symptoms may including blood in the urine, hoarseness, persistent lumps or swollen glands. ... and indigestion or difficulty swallowing.

 * Patients with chronic respiratory diseases may experience shortness of breath, especially during physical activities, wheezing,... and 
chest tightness.

* Patients with diabetes may include symptoms of unusual thirst, frequent urination, weight change,........ and extreme fatigue or lack of energy.


Kidney bean is very popular because of its kidney shape, strong flavor and color of reddish brown in nature. The bean often is an excellent dietary selection with no cholesterol, but a good source of protein and minerals.

According to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, consumption of kidney bean regularly attenuated the increased glycaemic stress (hyperglycaemia and hyperinsulinaemia) including diabetes, CVD and cancer.

Dr. Hutchins AM, the lead author said, " (The efficacy of kidney in reduced risk of chronic illness may be attributed to the) glycaemic response and the impact that relationship may have on the risk of developing diabetes, CVD and cancer".

In the study to compared two different illumination conditions during germination (12 h light/12 h dark vs 24 h dark) in lentils (Lensculinaris L.) and kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), melatonin content exerted a significantly antioxidant activity in protection against free radicals as well as showing the use of food as preventive strategies in combating chronic diseases through the diet.

Furthermore, the investigation of phenolic rich extracts obtained from two kinds of common beans, white kidney beans (WKB) and round purple beans (RPB), extracts Phenolic acids and phenolic compounds expressed a strong antioxidants and anti inflammatory activities in reduced the incidence of several chronic diseases that share an inflammatory component.


Dr. García-Lafuente A, the lead researcher in the study said, "common bean extracts may be used as a source of anti-inflammatory agents as well as a dietary complement for health promotion".


Taking together, intake kidney beans regularly may reduce risk and progression chronic illness through the immunomodutory effects involved increased antioxidant and ameliorated inflammatory activities.

****Green Tea, The Anti Allergic Inflammatory Diseases' Beverage, Scientists Say

Green tea may have a particular and special effect in ameliorated auto immunity in precipitation of allergic diseases, some scientists opinionated.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

Allergic diseases are a class of conditions characterized by over reaction of the immune system to substances which cause little or no harm to the body.

Investigation of the effect of green tea bioactive compounds in reduced abnormal immune allergic expression was found to associate to certain mechanisms.

According to the statistic, approximately 60 million Americans suffer from allergic diseases. affecting all age groups.

Most common allergic diseases include hay fever, food allergy, respiratory diseases such as asthma and eczema.

In rare case, allergies can trigger also a life-threatening anaphylaxis.

Most common symptoms include, itch, redden, Hives Itchy skin Rash Facial swelling Wheezing, sneezing Itching of the nose, eyes or roof of the mouth, runny and stuffy nose....and swelling of the lips, tongue, face or throat.

According to the Kyushu University, Epigallocatechin-3-O-(3-O-methyl) gallate (EGCG3"Me) isolated from cv. "Benifuuki" green tea expressed strong and positive activities in inhibited the mast cell production in precipitated allergic inflammatory responses and suppressed the high-affinity IgE receptor (FcεRI) function in expression of mmunoglobulin E (IgE), an antibody isotype involved allergy disorder through 67 kDa laminin receptor in mediation of the suppressive effect by epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate.


Further analysis also found that the bioactive compound binds to 67 kDa laminin receptor to attenuate allergic expression induced by mast cell by suppressing the myosin light chain phosphorylation in regulated immune response to osinophil (a type of disease-fighting white blood cell) migration in the tissue, a characteristic feature of allergic diseases and ERK1/2 phosphorylation signalling by modulation of inflammatory cytokines expression.


A double-blind clinical study of the green tea effect on subjects exposed to Japanese cedar pollinosis, administration of Benifuuki green tea containing O-methylated catechins showed a significantly relieved allergic symptoms induced by pollen such as nose blowing, eye itching in compared with the placebo group without effecting the normal immune responses.

More interestingly, in mouse bone marrow-derived mast cells activated by antigens, bioactive compound epigallocatechin-3-O-(3-O-methyl) gallate (EGCG3″Me) in combination with ginger extract also demonstrated a strongly anti-delay-type allergic effect by suppressing cytokines secretion of tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), a cell signaling protein (cytokine) in response to systemic inflammation in the acute phase infection.and macrophage Inflammatory Proteins(MIP-1α), a chemokine involved host response to invading bacteria and virus.

In compared to the dose of 5.1 times higher in EGCG, injection of 8.5 mg of EGCG3″Me exhibited a much stronger anti allergic activity than 43.5 mg of EGCG, observed by the area under curve AUC (area under the drug concentration time curve; min μg/ml) of 6.72 ± 2.87 in EGCG and 8.48 ± 2.54 in EGCG3″Me.

Taken together, green tea with abundantly bioactive Epigallocatechin-3-O-(3-O-methyl) gallate (EGCG3"Me) may be considered as a functional food for protection against auto immune response stimulated by unharmful allergens.

However, further data collection on studies performed with human consumption during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of its antiallergic possibilities.

Intake of green tea extracts, such as EGCG should be taken with extreme care, as overdoses induced acute liver toxicity have been reported by some medical literature.

Beet, The Root Veggie That Inhibits Bladder Cancer Cells

Intake of function food beet root regularly not only lowers the early occurrence but also provides a natural treatment of bladder cancer without inducing adverse effects.

Bladder cancer is a medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth and multiplied disorderly and uncontrollably in bladder tissues.

According to statistic, men are 4 times like to get bladder cancer in compared to women. The condition is the 9th common cancer worldwide.

Every-year, approximately 400, 000 new cases are diagnosed. The 5 years of survival rate included all stage of bladder cancer is about 77% in compared to 70% and 65% of 10 years and 15 years respectively.

The anti cancer property of beet root also displayed a strong anti angiogenesis by blocking the cancer cell in established new blood vessel signalling.


When used combination with Vitexin-2-O-xyloside, an apigenin flavone glucoside, betaxanthins and betacyanins also exerted a strong antiproliferative activity in bladder cancer cell lines, intrinsically and extrinsically in expression of apoptosis.

The study also indicated that these combination when used conjunction in the conventional chemotherapy not only enhance the effectiveness of treatment in bladder cancer but also overcome the adverse effect of toxicity and multidrug resistance of cancer cells.

Furthermore, in other study conducted by the same university, Betacyanins (BC) purified from beetroot (Beta vulgaris var. rubra L.) tested,alone or in combination with vitexin-2-O-xyloside (XVX) also isolated from the same vegetable enhanced the ability to reduce the proliferation rate in T24 bladder cancer cells, synergistically.by inhibition of protein of gene in promoted cell survival and enhanced cancer apoptosis.

Taking together, a diet enriched with these bioactive molecules of beet root could be used as function food in prevention and treatment of human bladder cancer.
