#ManukaHoney (MH) and #TualangHoney (TH) Process Anti Microbial Property, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found natural alternative antibiotics for the treatment of diseases caused by a bacterial infection, some studies found.
Infection is a medical condition caused by bacteria multiplication after entering the body.

Most bacteria are killed off by the white blood cells of the first line of defense of the immune system before they can enter the body.

In this stage, the immune systematic response stimulates the production of proteins associated with the production of coagulation to seal the wound and damage and pro-inflammatory cytokines to destroy the invaded bacteria, leading to symptoms of fever, and skin redness in the infected area.

However, if they enter the body successfully, they can initiate infection through the stage of incubation where bacterial multiple disease in the specific tissues and organs, leading to colonization and facilitating diseases development.

Patients with acute bacterial infection usually recover in a short period of time within 3 weeks.

Some bacterial pathogens can establish life-long chronic infections in the host by the persistent establishment after an acute infection period.

Dr. Young D, the lead scientist, at the Technology and Medicine, said," Bacteria have evolved specific pathogenic mechanisms and harbor sets of genes that contribute to the establishment of a persistent lifestyle that leads to chronic infection"

" Persistent bacterial infection may involve occupation of a particular tissue type or organ or modification of the intracellular environment within eukaryotic cells".

"Bacteria appear to adapt their immediate environment to favor survival and may hijack essential immunoregulatory mechanisms designed to minimize immune pathology or the inappropriate activation of immune effectors".

These results firmly suggested that if you have a weakened immune system you are at a higher risk to the onset of chronic bacterial infection.

Honey is a miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.

The rich golden liquid is considered of healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweeteners by many people.

In finding natural sources as a new antibiotic with no side effects, researchers examine the Manuka honey (MH) antibacterial effect in bioactive wound dressings.
Epidemiological studies suggested that MH provides unique antibacterial activity compared to conventional kinds of honey, due to its constituents, methylglyoxal (MGO).

In the evaluation of the antibacterial activity of both MH and MGO (at equivalent MGO concentrations) when applied as a physical coating to a nonwoven fabric wound dressing, researchers found that* Application of concentrations of 0.0054 mg cm-2 of MGO in the form of MH and MGO is sufficient to achieve a 100 colony-forming unit % bacteria reduction against gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and gram-negative Klebsiella pneumonia.

* However, a 3- to 20-fold increase in MGO concentration (0.0170-0.1 mg cm-2) was required to facilitate a good antibacterial effect.

These results suggested that Manuka honey antibacterial activity is processed a linearly and MGO concentration-dependent manner.

Dr. Bulman SEL, the lead scientist said, "The results presented in this study, therefore, demonstrate the relevance of an MGO-based coating as an environmentally friendly strategy for the design of functional dressings with antibiotic-free antimicrobial chemistries".

Additionally, in the investigation of the traditional use of Tualang honey (TH) for the treatment of bacterial infection against various microorganisms, including those from burn-related diagnoses, compared the anti antibacterial activity of Aquacel-Tualang honey, Aquacel-Manuka honey, Aquacel-Ag, and Aquacel- plain dressings against bacteria isolated from patients.
Four types of Gram-negative bacteria, namely Enterobacter cloacae, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas spp. and Acinetobacter spp., and three Gram-positive bacteria, namely Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative Staphylococcus aureus (CONS), and Streptococcus spp. were included in the study.

All tested agents showed a significant effect inhibiting the total bacterial count on day 6 and onwards.

Aquacel-Ag and Aquacel-Manuka honey dressings gave a better zone of inhibition for Gram-positive bacteria compared to Aquacel-Tualang honey dressing.

The comparable results were also found in the Aquacel-Manuka honey and Aquacel-Tualang honey dressing against Gram-negative bacteria.

Researchers after taking into account co and confounders suggested that Tualang honey has a bactericidal as well as bacteriostatic effect and is easier to apply and less sticky compared to Manuka honey.

Taken together, there is no doubt that Manuka honey (MH) and Tualang honey (TH) may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of bacterial infection. However, before they can be used as antibiotics similar to those of conventional medicine, a larger and multicenter human study is necessary to reconfirm the viability.

#Healthyfood #Tomato and Its #Lycopene Increase Insulin Sensitivity in Diabetics, Researchers Find

Kyle J. Norton

Glucose intolerance is a condition of cluster of metabolic conditions associated with higher-than-normal blood glucose levels.
Glucose tolerance is a test that examines how fast glucose is cleared from the blood.

Glucose intolerance is found in people with pre-diabetes or metabolic syndrome, the condition of elevated blood glucose that is below the diabetes

* Impaired fasting glucose (IFG), a fasting blood glucose level that is above 6.0 mmol/L

* Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), a blood glucose level that is over 7.8 mmol/L 2 hours after consuming 75g of glucose.
Glucose intolerance has been found to induce the risk of insulin resistance and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

The most common symptoms of IGT are feeling thirsty, being tired or lethargic, frequent urination, and itchiness around the genitals.,

Out of many prevalent factors associated with the risk of IGT, some researchers suggested that the promotion of a high-fat diet over the past few decades may have a strong and negative impact on the rise of glucose intolerance.

Dr. April J. Stull, wrote, "Glucose intolerance is a global health concern that encompasses glucose metabolism abnormalities such as impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and type 2 diabetes (T2D)".

"The progression from IGT to T2D can be prevented or delayed by modifying the lifestyles in high-risk individuals, and these health benefits are well documented in various ethnicities with prediabetes across the world".

Tomato is a red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belonging to the family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.

With an aim to find a phytochemical for the improvement of glucose tolerance, researchers examined the effects of dry tomato peel (DTP) on diabetes induced by a high-saturated-fat (HSF) diet in vivo.

The study included BALB/c male mice (n=40) (8 weeks old, weighing 22.2±1.0 g) randomly divided into four treatment groups (10 mice/group): (a) high-fat control diet (HF Ctrl), which contains sunflower oil as a sole source of fat; (b) HSF/high-cholesterol (HC) diet; (c) HSF/HC diet supplemented with 9% DTP and (d) HSF/HC diet supplemented with 17% DTP for 12 weeks.

According to the results of the tested assay, supplementation with DTP not only increased plasma lycopene concentration but also reduced the development of indicators of metabolic syndrome which was found in non-DTP treated groups.

In other words, DTP supplementation demonstrated a beneficial effect on glucose tolerance by increasing insulin sensitivity in the tested subject.

Also, in high-fat diet (HF)-induced obese mice treated by tomato vinegar beverage (TVB), researchers found that TVB not only showed a significant anti-obesity activity by decreasing fatty acid β-oxidation and carnitine palmitoyltransferase activities in HF-fed mice but also improved glucose tolerance, hyperinsulinemia compared to control.

More precisely, TVB exerted anti-diabetic effect by TVB significantly increased glucokinase activity and decreased glucose-6-phosphatase activity in the liver, associated with enhanced glucose metabolism in obese mice.

The findings strongly suggested that TVB inhibits glucose intolerance in obese mice through several mechanisms, including glucose metabolism.

Taken together, tomatoes processed with a high amount of lycopene may be considered a dietary supplement for the improvement of glucose tolerance, pending to large sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of lycopene in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Strawberry Inhibits Human Type 1 Allergy by Regulating Immune Cell Function, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a tasty whole food for the prevention and treatment of type 1 allergy with no side effects, according to studies.
The antigen is a toxin or other foreign pathogens that induce an immune response in the body, by stimulating the production of antibodies IgE.

According to the statistic, approximately 50 million Americans each year suffer from an allergy-related disease or condition. and the syndrome is a sixth leading cause of chronic illness in the US.

Epidemiological studies suggested that people with certain medical conditions such as asthma, family history of allergy and asthma and are younger than the age of 18 are at the increased risk of allergy.

Food allergies of type I which are mediated by food-specific IgE antibodies by signaling the release of histamine from the mast cells upon the contact with the relevant allergen, causing symptoms of skin, nose, throat, and lung irritation.

The genetic proposition is also one of the prevalent risk factors for the allergic onset. Dr. Romina A. Ortiz, the lead author in the examine the genetic risk in allergic diseases, wrote, "The allergic diseases are complex phenotypes for which a strong genetic basis has been firmly established" and "A major outcome of Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in allergic disease has been the formation of national and international collaborations leading to consortia meta-analyses, and an appreciation for the specificity of genetic associations to sub-phenotypes of allergic disease".

The genes which have a potential cause of the allergic disease include ORMDL3 locus with childhood asthma and generalizability of FLG mutations with the allergic diathesis.,...

Strawberry is a genius of Fragaria × ananassa belongs to the family Roseaceae. They have been grown all over the world with a suitable climate for commercial profits and for health benefits.

The major chemical compounds include anthocyanin and ellagitannins and p-Hydroxybenzoic acid, p-coumaric acid, ellagic acid, cyanidin-3-glucoside, pelargonidin-3-glucoside, kaempferol, quercetin, and myricetin.
In finding potential and natural whole food for the prevention and treatment of type 1 allergy with no side effects, scientists at the Gifu University evaluated the anti-allergic activity of chemical constituents isolated from the strawberry.

Linocinnamarin (LN), 1-O-trans-cinnamoyl-beta-d-glucopyranose (CG), and cinnamic acid (CA) from the fruit were found to exert a significant effect against the exhibited antigen (Ag) in stimulating the cellular process that releases antimicrobial cytotoxicity in rat basophilic leukemia RBL-2H3 cells.

On cellular responses induced by antigen stimulation, LN and CA markedly inhibited antigen-stimulated the elevation of intracellular free Ca(2+) concentration which plays an important role in T cell activation and reactive oxygen species (ROS).

The results were associated with the suppression of the Ag-stimulated spleen tyrosine kinase (Syk) activation that mediates immune receptors associated with antibody and antigen.

Further analysis of the efficacy of LN and CA, researchers discovered that the inhibition of antigen by LN and CA is mainly due to the inactivation of Syk/phospholipase Cgamma (PLCgamma) pathways which control both the innate and adaptive immune systems.

Dr. Ninomiya M, said in the final report, "LN and CA isolated from F. ananassa Duch. (strawberry) could be beneficial agents for alleviating symptoms of type I allergy".

Other bioactive compounds isolated from strawberries including the 4 kinds of flavonoids from strawberry 'Nohime' also were found to exert similar effects on the cellular process that releases antimicrobial cytotoxicity in RBL-2H3 cells in the Gifu International Institute of Biotechnology study.

The found flavonoids demonstrated a strong effect on the intracellular free Ca(2+) concentration ([Ca(2+)]i) and PLCgammas similar to those of the above study.

The treatment of flavonoids also displayed a strong effect on the intracellular signaling pathway associated with the regulation of immune cell function.

Dr. Itoh T, the lead author at the end of the experiment wrote, " suppression of Ag-stimulated degranulation by the flavonoids is mainly due to suppression of [Ca(2+)]i elevation and Syk activation".

Taken together, strawberries, the tasty fruits processed with high amounts of bioactive compounds may be considered a functional fruit for the prevention and treatment of type 1 allergy with no side effects.

Quality Intake Per Week of #Onion Linearly Associated with A Reduced Risk of #@EndometrialCancer, Researchers Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

The endometrium is the inner lining of the mammalian uterus that is very susceptible to hormone change, particularly in the menstrual cycle.

The endometrium is also a reproductive organ where the implantation takes place. In the absence of periodic hormonal influence, before puberty or following menopause, this tissue has a constant morphology and thickness.

Endometrial cancer, a late adulthood cancer is a medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth that starts in the cell on the surface of the inner endometrial lining of the uterus due to the alternation of cells DNA.

Endometrial cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide, after breast, lung, and bowel cancer.

According to the statistics provided by the American Cancer Society, in the US, cancer of the endometrium is the most common cancer of the female reproductive organs. In 2019, approximately 61,000 cases of endometrial cancer will be diagnosed.

The most common types of endometrial cancer are
* Adenocarcinomas
Adenocarcinomas accounted for account for over 80% of cases of endometrial cancer that begins with irregular cell growth in the surface cells of the inner lining of the endometrium

Women who have an early onset of symptoms of peri-menopause are at a higher risk of adenocarcinomas.

* Uterine sarcoma
Uterine sarcoma, a rare uterine cancer containing malignant cells of the muscle and connective tissue of the uterus, accounts for only 2 percent of all uterine cancers, including
** Endometrial stromal sarcomas
Endometrial stromal sarcomas are also endometrial cancers originating in the non-glandular connective tissue of the endometrium, with unknown origin.

* Leiomyosarcomas
Leiomyosarcomas is a form of endometrial cancer that originates from the smooth muscles of the uterus. Endometrial cancer has a resistant tendency and is not very responsive to chemotherapy or radiation.

* Carcinosarcoma
Carcinosarcoma is a type of cancer caused by both epithelial and connective tissues of the uterus.

The onion is a plant in the genus Allium, belonging to the family Alliaceae, a closely related of garlic. It is often called the "king of vegetables" because of its pungent taste and found in a large number of recipes and preparations spanning almost the totality of the world's cultures.

Depending on the variety, an onion can be sharp, spicy, tangy, pungent, mild or sweet.

In finding a potential compound for the treatment of endometrial cancer, researchers examined the relationship between onion and garlic intake on endometrial cancer, using data from an Italian case-control study.

According to the data of a multicentre case-control study of 454 endometrial cancer cases and 908 controls, admitted to the same hospitals for a wide spectrum of acute, non-neoplastic conditions, the OR of endometrial cancer for successive categories of onion intake was 0.94 for <2 portions/week compared to garlic of 0.89.

The OR of onion intake was decreased to 0.40 (95% CI 0.22, 0.72) for > or =2 portions/week, compared to garlic of 0.62.

In other words, onion and garlic showed a significant inverse trend for the risk of endometrial cancer depending on the quality intake per week.

Furthermore, The OR for an increment of one portion (i.e. 80 g) of onions in the risk of endometrial cancer per week was 0.81.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "Our study found a moderate protective role of allium vegetables on the risk of endometrial cancer".

Taken together, onion may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of endometrial cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#StrawberryExtract and Its Tannin-Rich Fraction Process Anti-Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and Anti-Prostate Cancer Activity, Researchers Find

Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a tasty whole fruit for the prevention and treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) and prostate cancer with no side effects, according to studies.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia happens mostly in the older age population group and is a condition of an enlarged prostate that can cause some serious urinary symptoms, such as blocking the flow of urine out of the bladder.

In many cases, an enlarged prostate can also induce bladder, urinary tract, or kidney problems and prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is a slow growth and medical condition characterized by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in the prostate tissue.

Most cases of prostate cancer start in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the prostate gland
At the advanced stage, the cancerous cell can travel a distance away from the prostate to infect other healthy tissue, through blood and fluid circulation.

The causes of prostate cancer are unknown. Epidemiologically, researchers do know that the increase in age, ethnicity, family history, the genetic preposition of BRCA1 and/or BRCA2, and agent orange exposure is associated with an increased risk of the disease.

Some researchers suggested that poor eating habits and lifestyle are the most common risk factors associated with the onset of benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer. Therefore, by changing to a healthy diet, the risk of benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer may be preventable.

Dr. Devrim E, in the concern of the widespread prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), over the last few decades said, "Garlic and its preparations have been used for the treatment of prostate cancer and relief of BPH symptoms for decades. It is thought that the mechanism(s) through which garlic may show anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects".

These results suggested adding garlic to your diet daily can decrease the incidence of both benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer with no side effects.

Strawberry is a genius of Fragaria × ananassa and belongs to the family Roseaceae. They have been grown all over the world with a suitable climate for commercial profits and for health benefits.

Starting at age 40, the levels of the by-product prolactin of testosterone in men increase, stimulating the production of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase that causes the conversion of testosterone to gihydro-testosterones DHT triggering prostate enlargement and other problems. Therefore in order to prevent the symptoms of an enlarged prostate is to naturally impend the conversion of testosterone to DHT. Unfortunately, aging is not the only cause of an enlarged prostate. Prostate Cancer is defined as a condition of the abnormal proliferation of cells in the prostate.

The major chemical compounds include anthocyanin and ellagitannins and p-Hydroxybenzoic acid, p-coumaric acid, ellagic acid, cyanidin-3-glucoside, pelargonidin-3-glucoside, kaempferol, quercetin, and myricetin.

With an aim to find the natural compound that processes the potency to inhibit benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a common disease of the prostate that affects men as they age, and a risk factor for developing prostate cancer with no side effects, researchers at the Monash University looked into the anti-BPH activity of lycopene found abundantly in the strawberry by searching the database of medical literature.

Out of many medical studies that were examined, only 8 published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing lycopene to placebo (or other interventions) for the treatment of BPH and prostate cancer met the inclusion criteria selected for this systematic review.

A meta-analysis of two studies indicated a decrease in PSA levels in men diagnosed with prostate cancer, who received lycopene compared to placebo.

In a human prostate epithelial cell line (P21) and two tumor cell lines (P21 tumor cell line 1 and 2) derived from the same patient, and a normal human breast epithelial cell line (B42) and a tumor line derived from it (B42 clone 16), researchers examined the cytotoxic effects of strawberry polyphenols.

By applying the polyphenol-rich extract derived from strawberry or anthocyanin or tannin-rich sub-fractions to the cell lines in doses varying from 50 to 1.5 microg/ml, researchers discovered the strawberry extract inhibited over 50% in cell survival of both the normal and the tumor lines with the doses of approximately 5 microg/ml.

The extracts were found to exert cytotoxicity to peripheral blood human lymphocytes with the doses higher levels of 20 microg/ml for a similar effect of a 50% reduction in cell survival.

Compound analysis assay suggested that the cytotoxicity retained in the tannin-rich fraction was considerably more toxic to all cells (normal or tumor cell lines or lymphocytes) than the anthocyanin-rich fraction tannin-rich fraction.

Furthermore, In LNCaP and PC-3) tumor cell lines, strawberry extract with concentrations of 50 microg/ml was required for a 50% reduction in cell survival.

The finding suggested that strawberries processed with high amounts of bioactive compounds may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer without inducing any side effects

Higher Intake of #Onion is Linearly Associated with a Reduced Risk of Head and Neck and Laryngeal #Cancer, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Cancer is a class of diseases associated with cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in the tissue of a specific organ. Over time cancer can become progressively worse and damage other healthy tissues.

Head and neck cancer is a class of cancer including the mouth, nose, throat, larynx, sinuses, or salivary glands.

Most cases of head and neck cancer start in the cells of the inner lining of the affected tissue. Patients with head and neck cancer at the very early stage are asymptomatic due to the very small size of the tumor. However, at the later stage, the cancer cell can travel a distance away from the original site to infect other healthy tissues and organs, leading to secondary metastasis.

The exact causes of head and neck cancer are not identified. However, researchers found that excessive alcohol intake, smoking, infection by the HPV virus, poor oral health, race, long-term exposure to wood dust are prevalent factors associated with an increased risk of head and neck cancer.

Dr. Shu-Chun Chuang in the investigation of the risk of diet on head and neck cancer (HNC) wrote, "An inverse association was observed for higher frequency intake of fruit (4th vs. 1st quartile OR=0.52, 95% CI=0.43–0.62, ptrend<0.01) and vegetables (OR=0.66, 95% CI=0.49–0.90, ptrend=0.01). Intake of red meat (OR=1.40, 95% CI=1.13–1.74, ptrend=0.13) and processed meat (OR=1.37, 95% CI=1.14–1.65, ptrend<0.01) were positively associated with HNC risk. Higher dietary pattern scores, reflecting high fruit/vegetable and low red meat intake, were associated with reduced HNC risk (per score increment OR=0.90, 95% CI=0.84–0.97)". wrote, "

In other words, a diet rich with fruits and vegetables and low red meat intake reduces the risk of HNC, whereas, a diet rich with red meat and processed meat is associated with a higher risk of the disease.

The onion is a plant in the genus Allium, belonging to the family Alliaceae, which a close relation of garlic. It is often called the "king of vegetables" because of its pungent taste and found in a large number of recipes and preparations spanning almost the totality of the world's cultures.

Depending on the variety, an onion can be sharp, spicy, tangy, pungent, mild or sweet.

In the urgency to find a potential compound for the treatment of head and neck cancer, researchers investigated the potentially favorable role of garlic and onion within the International Head and Neck Cancer Epidemiology (INHANCE) Consortium.

By analyzing the pooled individual-level data from eight case-control studies, including 4590 cases and 7082 controls, researchers found that at the 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for associations between garlic and onion intakes and HNC
* The ORs of 0.95 were associated with participants with no or low garlic use, and 0.74 for high garlic use participants.

* Increasing onion intake OR was 0.91 ( for >1 to ≤3 portions per week) and 0.83 ( for >3 portions per week) compared to <1 portion per week.

* Furthermore, higher onion intake showed a significant inverse association with laryngeal cancer risk (OR = 0.69; 95% CI 0.54-0.88).

In other words, the risk of head and neck cancer are decreased proportionally with the amount intake of onion daily and weekly, particularly in laryngeal cancer.

Based on the findings, researchers wrote, "The results of this pooled analysis support a possible moderate inverse association between... onion intake and HNC risk".

Taken together, onion may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of head and neck cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Herbal #Turmeric and Its #Curcumin in the Promotiopn of Reproductive System Functioning, Researchers Find

Kyle J. Norton

The reproductive system is a system of sex organs with a function to produce offspring.
In males, the reproductive system consists of the testes, where sperm is produced, and the penis.

In females, the structures of the reproductive system include the clitoris, labia minora, labia majora, and Bartholin's glands and internal structures include the vagina, uterus, and ovaries.

The most common cause of reproductive organ disease is an infection. In females, reproductive tract infections can affect the upper reproductive tract (fallopian tubes, ovaries, and uterus) and the lower reproductive tract (vagina, cervix, and vulva).

In males, most cases of infection are found on the penis, testicles, urethra, or the vas deferens.

Some cases of reproductive diseases such as cancer have been found to affect reproductive functioning, leading to infertility.

Fertility is a natural capability to produce offspring. Infertility is a condition in which the couple fails to conceive after 12 months of unprotected sexual intercourse or the female cannot carry the pregnancy to full term.

According to the statistics, over 5 million couples in the U. S. and many times more in the world, because of unawareness of treatments, only 10% seek help from a professional specialist.

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as an anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and to treat flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.

With an aim to find a natural compound for the improvement of reproductive functioning, researchers
examined the effects of Curcuma longa and curcumin (CUR) on reproductive systems, by searching the detailed literature survey concentrated on the protective effects of C. longa and curcumin on the activity of the reproductive organs.

According to the results of the searching from PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Iran- Medex, injection of C. longa and curcumin decreased the risk of cancer and other malignant diseases in the reproductive system by inhibiting the production of the proinflammatory cytokines and promoting the proteins associated with anti-apoptosis in the cells of the reproductive system.

Furthermore, C. longa and curcumin exerted a protective effect on the activity of the reproductive organs through their antioxidant effects in normal cells.

Moreover, C. longa and curcumin also exhibited different reproductive effects depending on the doses and the type of cells.

In order to discover more information about CUR reproductive activity, researchers examined the effect of on testis and testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH) in rats with establishing chronic variable stress (CVS).

A total of 21 adult male Sprague-Dawley rats included in the study were divided into three groups: 1) control, 2) CVS and 3) CVS+ CUR (100 mg/kg/day dissolved in 0.5 mL of olive oil). All of the animals in control, CVS, and CVS+CUR groups were sacrificed after 15 days.

Injection CUR showed a significant effect in protecting the reproductive functioning by inhibiting the change of normal range testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) serum levels and seminiferous tubule apoptotic cells in the CVS group compared to the control.

Based on the results, Dr. the lead scientist said, "Our findings propose that curcumin might have curative potential on the reproductive system function and its impairment. It's regulated by stress and reproductive-related hormones".

Taken together, turmeric and its bioactive compound may be considered remedies for the treatment of reproductive dysfunction, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.
