#Phytochemical Lycopene Inhibits Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) Colonized Human Stomach in the Risk of #GastricCancer.

Kyle J. Norton

Hyperproliferation is a progression of highly invasive tumors associated with an abnormally high rate of cancer cell division, leading to rapid overgrowth of the tumor.

Gastric cancer or stomach cancer is a medical condition caused by irregular cell growth of the inner lining tissues of the stomach.

Most cancer of gastric starts in the cells on the inner lining of the stomach before penetrating into deeper layers.

At the advanced stage, cancerous gastric cells can also travel a distance away to an alternate DNA of healthy cells, leading a secondary metastasis.

According to the statistics provided by the Canadian Cancer Society, In 2017, approximately 3,500 Canadians were diagnosed with stomach cancer, and gastric cancer also caused the death of 2,100 including 1,300 women and 790 men.

There are major types of gastric cancer
*Adenocarcinoma, accounting for over 90% of gastric cancer diagnosed each year is a type of cancer developed in the innermost lining of the stomach (the mucosa).

* Lymphoma is a type of cancer associated with the immune system found in the wall of the stomach.

The most common symptoms of gastric cancer are heartburn or indigestion, abdominal pain or vague discomfort in the abdomen, usually above the navel, and a sense of fullness in the upper abdomen after eating a small meal accompanied by the general symptoms shared by other types of cancer.

In severe cases, if the oversized tumor has pressed on the nearby blood vessel, patients may experience the symptom of vomiting blood.

Out of many prevalent factors involved in cancer onset, some researchers suggest the promotion of the Western diet may have a strong and negative implication on cancer occurrence in North America.

Dr. Bertuccio P, the lead scientist wrote, "An unfavorable role on GC emerged for the 'Western/unhealthy' dietary pattern, with an OR of 1.51 (95% CI: 1.21-1.89). This association was weaker for the distal/NOS (not otherwise specified) category (OR = 1.36) compared with the cardia GC (OR = 2.05). Among the a priori scores, the ORs ranged from 0.2 to 0.7 for the favorable and from 1.8 to 6.9 for the unfavorable ones".

And, "There is a ~2-fold difference in GC risk between a 'Prudent/healthy' diet-rich in fruits and vegetables, and a 'Western/unhealthy' diet-rich in starchy foods, meat, and fats".

Lycopene is a phytochemical in the class of carotenoids, a natural pigment with no vitamin A activity found abundantly in tomatoes and other red fruits and vegetables, such as red carrots, watermelons, and papayas,

Tomatoes provide about 80% of the lycopene in the world's diet. In plants, lycopene protects the host against excessive photodamage and performs various functions in photosynthesis.

With an aim to find a potential compound for the treatment of invasive gastric cancer, researchers examined the lycopene effect on Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) colonized human stomach in the risk of gastric cancer.

According to the tested differentiation, injection of lycopene reduced ROS levels by inhibiting Jak1/Stat3 activation associated with increased levels of proinflammatory cytokines, alteration of Wnt/β-catenin multiprotein signal in induced cell proliferation, and differentiation.

Furthermore, the levels of ROS also are decreased observed by the inhibition of c-Myc, a protein that plays a critical role in cellular growth regulation and cellular metabolism, and cyclin E in cell duplication and cell proliferation in H pylori-infected AGS cells, derived from an adenocarcinoma of the stomach.
In other words, lycopene protects the gastric cell by constraining the expression of ROS through several aforementioned mechanisms.

Based on the findings, researchers said, " Lycopene might be a potential and promising nutrient for preventing H pylori-associated gastric diseases including gastric cancer".

Furthermore, according to the results of HGC-27 cells which were treated with varying concentrations of lycopene for 24, 48, 72,
* Lycopene displayed antiproliferative activity in HGC-27 cell lines.

* Lycopene inhibited HGC-27 by enhancing the protein LC3 which is essential for cancer cell autophagy and p-ERK protein expression that impaired regeneration of intracellular antioxidants.

Furthermore, in the gastric cancer nude mice model, lycopene treatment also significantly decreased tumor weight or tumor proliferation.

Taken altogether, lycopene may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of gastric cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of lycopene in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#RedChineseCabbage (ArCC) #Anthocyanin Inhibits Vascular Inflammatory Diseases Through Its Anti-Cytokine Production Activity, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Inflammation is a natural immune response that protects our body against the invasion of stimuli and foreign pathogens.
During the acute phase of infection, the immune first line of defense activates the protein associated with the production of blood palettes to cover the wound and inflammatory cytokines to the site of injury with an aim to prevent and kill off harmful microorganisms.

However, the overproduction of inflammatory cytokines not only can induce fever, swelling, and pain in the affected area but also damage to the nearby cells and tissue, leading to the formation of scars.

Chronic inflammatory diseases are the class of conditions involved in low-grade inflammation that affects tissues or organs. Some researchers suggested that the immune system has evolved over thousands of years to kill off foreign invasive pathogens within a period of time, generally between 3 to 8 weeks. If the immune fails to do so, it will adapt to the new change, leading to chronic inflammation.

There are several factors that cause the onset of the conditions. Some scientists indicated untreated acute inflammation, such as an infection or injury and an autoimmune disorder involving the immune system mistakenly attacking healthy tissue are the most common causes of chronic inflammatory diseases.

Certain risk factors such as long-term exposure to irritants, such as industrial chemicals or polluted air, the increase in age, being obesity or obesity, low sex hormone production, sleep disorder, and diet.

Furthermore, vascular inflammation increases the risk of CVD and is found to have a close link between inflammation and redox balance or oxidative stress caused by the imbalanced ratio of free radicals and antioxidants produced by the host.

Dr. Steven S, the lead scientist said, "Clinical trials have identified chronic inflammatory disorders as cardiovascular risks and recent research has revealed a contribution by various inflammatory cells to vascular oxidative stress. Atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease are closely associated with inflammation, probably due to the close interaction of inflammation with oxidative stress".

And, "The value of immunomodulation for treating cardiovascular disease was recently supported by large-scale clinical trials demonstrating reduced cardiovascular mortality in patients with the established atherosclerotic disease when treated by precise anti-inflammatory therapies (e.g., using monoclonal antibodies against cytokines)".

Cabbage is a species of Brassica oleracea belonging to the family Brassicaceae (or Cruciferae), native to the Mediterranean region along the seacoast. The veggie has a short stem that is crowded with a mass of leaves, usually green but in some varieties, it may be red or purplish.
With an aim to find a natural food for the prevention of diseases associated with vascular inflammation, researchers examined the anti-inflammatory activities of an anthocyanin-rich extract from red Chinese cabbage (ArCC).

According to the analysis of cultured endothelial cells, ArCC treatment suppressed monocyte adhesion to tumor necrosis factor-α-in atherosclerotic plaque formation by inhibiting endothelial adhesion molecules.

The action of ArCC against vascular inflammation was attributed to decreasing the expression of a protein associated with cytokine production.

In hyperlipidemic apolipoprotein E-deficient mice, administration of ArCC (150 or 300 mg/kg/day) showed a similar effect on the inhibition of aortic inflammatory cytokines, reduction of plaque formation accompanied by the lowering of the leukocyte infiltration.

Based on the results, researchers wrote, "The results suggest that the consumption of anthocyanin-rich red Chinese cabbage is closely correlated with lowering the risk of vascular inflammatory diseases".

Taken altogether, red Chinese cabbage processed abundantly with anthocyanin may be considered a dietary vegetable for the prevention and treatment of vascular inflammatory diseases, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of anthocyanin in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Indicaxanthins Protect Colon Cells Against Tumoral Alterations, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

The colon formed part of the digestive system, is the 2nd part of intestines found in the large bowel consisting of the colon and rectum. The colon plays a critical role to absorb water from the small bowel contents and breaks down certain materials in the feces into substances in which some of them are reabsorbed and reused by the body.

Cancer is a class of chronic disease caused by cell DNA alternation in the tissue of a specific organ.
The invasive tumor tends to spread to other nearby healthy tissue compared to a noninvasive and benign tumor.

Colon cancer is a chronic condition characterized by irregular cell growth that starts in the cells in the inner lining the tissues of the colon tissues, after penetrating into deeper layers to form a tumor, through the unlimited cell cycle division.

Colon cancer is relatively very common, slowly growing and progressing in a predictable way.

However, at the advanced stage, colon cancerous cell can travel a distance away to invade other healthy tissue, leading to secondary metastasis.

Together with rectal cancer, colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in Western countries, including the US and Canada.

According to the statistics, the lifetime risk of developing colon cancer is about one in 23. Colon cancer accounts for 71% of all cases of colorectal cancer. The overall 5 years survival rate of localized colon cancer is 90%.

The 5-year survival rate of colon cancer is 90%. Only 39% of patients are diagnosed in the localized stage.

Dr. Bandaru S. Reddy, in examining the types and amount of dietary fat and colon cancer risk wrote, "The role of types of dietary fat, especially saturated fats of animal origin, n−6- and n−3-rich polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in the etiology of colorectal cancer has become increasingly apparent".

And, "Epidemiological studies indicate a positive association between the dietary intake of saturated fat and/or animal fat and colon cancer risk and an inverse relationship between the intake of fish and fish oil rich in n−3 PUFAs and colon cancer development".

In other words, if you follow the Western diet, you are at an increased risk of colon cancer.

Indicaxanthin is phytochemical in the class of red and yellow indole-derived pigments of Betacyanins, belonging to the group of Betalains found abundantly in beets, chard, etc.

In finding a potent compound for the treatment of cancer, researchers examined the potential influence of consistent dietary concentrations of indicaxanthin on LOVO1, CACO2, HT29, HCT116, and DLD1 cells.

According to the tested analysis, Indicaxanthin exerted a significant anti-proliferative activity in all cell lines but HT29 by inhibiting some methylation-silenced onco-suppressor genes.

In other words, Indicaxanthin normalized the gene expression associated with cancer cell suppression without affecting the function of basally hypermethylated such as SFRP1 and HPP1.

Interestingly, indicaxanthin increased the DNA Methyltransferases (DNMT) gene expression but decreased the activity involved in the promotion of various types of cancer, including colon cancer.

Most importantly, Indicaxanthin also increased the expression of genes involved in DNA demethylation associated with the activity of unwanted DNA methyltransferase-induced tumor progression.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "contribute to new knowledge in the field of phytochemicals and specifically suggest dietary indicaxanthin as a potential epigenetic agent to protect colon cells against tumoral alterations".

Taken together, indicaxanthin may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of colon cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Xiaoyaosan (XYS) Including #Angelica Exerts a Strong Effect on the Treatment of #Depression, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Depression is a common and serious psychological illness, that affects the physical and mental functions of patients, including the ways patients feel, think, and act.
Some patients with depression may feel sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed.

There are many causes associated with the onset of depression, including genetics, changes in hormone levels, certain medical conditions, stress, grief, or difficult life circumstances that initiate the change of brain chemistry in inducing depressive syndrome.

The most common symptoms of depression include sadness, hopelessness, guilt, change of mood, and loss of interest in friends, family, favorite activities, and sex.

Some patients with depression also experience cognitive symptoms of trouble concentrating, making decisions, remembering, and thoughts of harming themselves.

Readers may find other symptoms not included in the article including behavior and physical symptoms.

Over 30 million Americans suffer from depression and the amount is increasing at an alarming rate. Depression may be a mental health disorder that can affect the way you eat, sleep, and the way you feel about yourself.

According to the statistics provided by the Anxiety and Depression of Association of Americans, major depressive disorder is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. for ages 15 to 44.3, affecting more than 16.1 million American adults, or about 6.7% of the U.S. population age 18 and older.

The mild case of depression can be defeated by a variety of self-care techniques. Others require the treatment of medication, such as antidepressant medications and psychotherapy that help to reduce and sometimes eliminate the symptoms of depression.

In finding a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of neurological disorders, scientists examined the effects of Xiaoyaosan (XYS), a famous and classic traditional Chinese prescription for depressive disorders.

Angelica or Dang Qui is a herb of Genus Angelica from the family Apiaceae, indigenous to China.

The herb has been used as a Queen herb in traditional Chinese medicine antispasmodic and vasodilatory agent, and to balance the hormones in women for a normal menstrual cycle and menstruation and strengthen the heart, spleen, kidneys, and liver for both men and women, etc. In other words, it is used to treat gynecological ailments, fatigue, mild anemia, and high blood pressure. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, etc.

In a total of 17 depressed patients and the 17 age- and gender-matched healthy subjects as the primary cohort, depressed patients were screened according to the Chinese Classification of Mental Disorder (CCMD-3) and the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD).

According to the results of experience,* There were significant differences between the depression cohort and healthy volunteers, and between patients before and after the treatment of XYS.

* Furthermore, XYS enhanced the levels of oxalic and stearic acids that significantly increased in depressed patients' plasma while valine and urea significantly decreased, as compared with healthy controls.

* XYS reversed these metabolite changes in terms of regulating dysfunctions in glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism, fatty acid biosynthesis, valine, leucine, and isoleucine biosynthesis, and arginine and proline metabolism.

Taken altogether, angelica sinensis may be considered a remedy to treat depression, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Coffee Intake Regualrly Is Associated with A Reduced Risk of Stroke, Particularly in Women

Kyle J. Norton

Coffee, second to green tea is a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, made from roast beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

A stroke is a medical condition characterized by interrupted blood supply, thus reducing oxygen and nutrients delivery to the brain, resulting in the death of brain cells.

Intake of coffee and coffee caffeine may have a profound effect in reducing the risk of stroke incidence, a renowned institute study suggested.

In a third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1988-1994; NHANES III) data to examine coffee consumption and stroke with participants aged ≥17 years old, researchers found that
coffee intake of this population showed a significant inverse association with stroke risk incidence, regardless of smoking status.

Interestingly, the study also discovered that frequent coffee drinkers displayed a lower occurrence of heart failure, diabetes, and hypertension but the risk of high cholesterol for those consuming ≥3 cups per day.

Dr. Liebeskind DS, the lead author said, "Heavier daily coffee consumption is associated with decreased stroke prevalence" and ". Multivariate analyses revealed an independent effect of heavier coffee consumption (≥3 cups/day) on reduced stroke".

Furthermore, in an analyzed data from a prospective cohort of 83,076 women in the Nurses' Health Study without a history of stroke, coronary heart disease, diabetes, or cancer at baseline, with coffee consumption assessed first in 1980, then repeatedly every 2 to 4 years, and follow-up through 2004, researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health filed the following results

1. The relative risk ratio of stroke in participants coffee consumption (<1 cup per month, 1 per month to 4 per week, 5 to 7 per week, 2 to 3 per day, and >or=4 per day) were 1, 0.98, 0.88, 0.81, and 0.80 repetitively.
2. Intake of coffee and coffee caffeine daily and regularly showed a significantly positive effect in reduced stroke risk after taking into account other favors, including high blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia, and type 2 diabetes.
3. Risk of stroke is also associated stronger correlation among never and past smokers (RR for >or=4 cups a day versus <1 cup a month, 0.57) than among current smokers (RR for >or=4 cups a day versus <1 cup a month, 0.97).
4. Decaffeinated coffee intake also was associated with a trend in a lower risk of stroke after adjustment for caffeinated coffee consumption.

5. Caffeine consumption of other beverages is not associated with risk or reduced risk of stroke.
The findings suggested that long-term coffee consumption was not associated with the risk of stroke but modestly reduced the risk of stroke.

Promisingly, an Asian study of data obtained from the Health Examinees (HEXA) study, involving 146,830 individuals aged 40-69 years demonstrated that high coffee consumption was associated with a 38% lower odds ratio for stroke in women compared to (none drinkers vs. ≥ 3 cups/day drinkers in women but not in men.

The expression of coffee intake in reduced risk of stroke was also found greater in women who are healthy, younger, non-obese, non-hypertensive, non-diabetic, non-smokers, and non-alcohol drinkers.

Taken together, there is no doubt that the intake of coffee daily and regularly has a remarkable effect on the reduced risk of stroke, particularly in women.

#GreenTea EGCG Promotes #WeightLoss and Attenuates Symptoms of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, Researchers Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may be considered as a functional food in lower risk and treatment for patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, a respectable institute opinionated.
Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease is a condition caused by over accumulated of fat in the liver.

Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine, or food, long-term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, inducing "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weakened immunity and painful cases of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory. Adding a slice of ginger will solve the aversion.

According to the University of Connecticut, Storrs, the efficacy of green tea for the treatment of obese patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with polyphenolic catechins in the induction of hypolipidemic, thermogenic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities.

These chemical compounds have also been found to mitigate the occurrence and progression of NAFLD.

Dr. Masterjohn C, the lead author said, "(The phytochemical compounds) demonstrating the hepatoprotective properties of green tea and its catechins and the proposed mechanisms by which these targeted dietary agents protect against NAFLD"

Furthermore, in mice fed on a high-fat diet for 24 weeks., then injected with EGCG (10, 20 and 40 mg·kg(-1)·d(-1), ip), for 4 weeks, researchers found that treated mice showed a significant improvement of a high-fat diet in induced the body weight, grade 2 or 3 liver fatty degeneration (steatosis, lobular inflammation, and ballooning), severe hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and insulin resistance.

The phytochemical EGCG, in dose-dependent, also enhanced insulin clearance and upregulated IDE protein expression and enzyme activity in regulated levels of glucose in the liver of treated mice.

In fact, EGCG not only promoted weight loss but also attenuated symptoms of mice with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Promisingly, in the study of green tea polyphenols (GTP) on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in Zucker fatty (ZF) rats, researchers also indicated that GTP intervention not only decreased weight gain and significantly lowered visceral fat but also reduced fasting serum insulin, glucose and lipids levels, through ameliorated expression of hepatic TG accumulation and cytoplasmic lipid droplet as well as diminished hepatic lipogenesis and triglycerides outflux from liver.

Taken together, green tea has expressed a significant enhancement in reduced risk and treatment of
nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, through many aspects. However large amounts of intake regularly should be taken with care to prevent toxicity.

Intake of Vegetables, Fruits, Fish, and Tea Regularly Is Associated with a Reduced Risk of Anxiety Symptoms in Pregnancy, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

The central nervous system is a part of the nervous system of the brain and spinal cord with the function of integrating information it receives from the entire nervous system and controlling all the workings of your body.

Neurological diseases are the medical conditions of brain disorders. Anything that involves structural, biochemical, or electrical abnormalities in the brain, spinal cord, or other nerves, including brain damage is considered as neuro disease.

Mental illnesses or mental health disorders refer to a group of mental health conditions that affect your mood, thinking, quality of life, and behavior.

Poor lifestyle choices, such as smoking, overuse of alcohol, lack of physical activity inadequate relief of chronic stress, and poor diet with high in saturated and trans fat, red meat, processed foods, and less in fruits and vegetables and whole-grain are some of the key contributors in the development and progression of chronic diseases, including neurological diseases.
Anxiety is a mental disorder characterized by worry about future events and fear of current events.

People experience anxiety differently. Some people feel a sudden moment of anxiety just a bad feeling, it comes and goes, only lasting a short time. Depending on how people cope with the moments of anxiety, the events can be brief or last a few days.

However, in some persons, if anxiety does not go away, they may require treatment from the related field specialists.

If you frequently experience symptoms of nervousness, restlessness, or being tense feelings of danger, panic, or dread rapid heart rate rapid breathing, or hyperventilation,..... you may have developed an anxiety disorder.

Conventionally, Treatment of anxiety is totally depending on the nature of the anxiety disorder and individual preferences. Often, treatment combines different types of therapy and medication.

In finding a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of mental disorders, scientists examined prepregnancy dietary patterns and prospective variations on anxiety symptoms from mid-pregnancy to early postpartum in Brazilian Women.

A prospective cohort study included 207 healthy pregnant women who were followed at 5 to 13, 20 to 26, and 30 to 36 gestational weeks, and once at 30 to 45 days postpartum.

According to the analysis of The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory returned from the participants
* The mean anxiety symptom scores were 40.4, 40.5, and 37.2 for the second trimester, third trimester, and postpartum, respectively.

* The rate of variation of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory score was 0.535 (95% CI -0.035 to 1.107; P=0.066) and -0.010 (95% CI -0.018 to -0.002; P=0.019) when accounting for gestational age and quadratic gestational age, respectively.

* The dietary pattern associated with the anxiety symptoms found in the common-Brazilian pattern, comprised mainly of rice and beans (β=-1.200, 95% CI -2.220 to -0.181; P=0.021)

* The healthy pattern comprised mostly of vegetables, fruits, fish, and tea was found to be associated with negative prospective changes in anxiety symptoms.

Based on the results, researchers suggest, "High adherence to the common-Brazilian or healthy patterns was negatively associated with higher anxiety symptom scores from mid-pregnancy to early postpartum in this group of Brazilian women".

In other words, regular intake of vegetables, fruits, fish, and tea in women during pregnancy was associated with a reduced risk of anxiety.
