The osteoporosis protection can be observed through the lower Serum osteocalcin (OC) and calcium (Ca2+) in Vitex agnus-castus L. (Vac) essential oil and decreased bone turnover treated group in compared control in middle-aged male rats.

Taken together, Chaste tree berry showed strong support in the reduced early onset of osteoporosis of male gander through improved bone metabolism and calcium status, but further large size and multi centers studies are necessary to validate this potency.

In stomach cancer, according to the meta-analysis, consumption of large amounts of total Allium vegetables, such as garlic and onion reduced the risk of gastric cancer by comparing the highest and lowest consumption groups.

Injection of AOM (15 mg/kg) was via intraperitoneal route once a week for two subsequent weeks to induce colorectal cancer.
The treatment groups were given oral administration of KH (1183 mg/kg body weight) twice daily for 8 weeks.

AOM injected group showed a significant increase in the total number of aberrant crypt foci (ACF) and aberrant crypts (AC) and crypt multiplicity and damage to liver and kidney

After treatment of KH, the AOM group displayed a reduction of crypts and chemotoxicity by restoring the liver and kidney function observed by the blood profile.

Furthermore, KH was not toxically identified by the KH-treated group not induced with AOM.

These results suggested that KH may have a potential effect on inhibiting the toxicity caused by chemotherapy and improving the chemo drugs' activity without inducing any side effects.

Moreover, on finding a natural whole food to overcome 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) therapeutic resistance and adverse toxicity in colorectal cancer, researchers looked into Manuka honey (MH), a rich source of bioactive compounds to examine its anticancer effects on human colon cancer HCT-116 and LoVo cells.

Furthermore, these 2 compounds also killed the oral pathogens at a minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) range of 4-20 microg/mL compared to other failed compounds such as 5-acetoxy-[6]-gingerol, 3,5-diacetoxy-[6]-gingerdiol and galanolactone.

In order to reveal more information about ginger's antimicrobial activity, researchers examine the newly isolated compound including 6-paradol (1) and 6-shogaol (2) as the major antimycobacterial agents.

Injection of these isolates was found to be active against Mycobacterium chelonei, M. intracellulare, M. smegmatis, and M. xenopi (MIC 10-15 µg/ml).

The desmethyl derivative of compound (1) retained antimycobacterial activity. However, derivatives are more active against Candida albicans, compared to (1) and (2).

Interestingly, newly compound Gingerone (9)was found to be inactive against microbial activity.

Taken together, ginger processed with abundantly bioactive ingredients may be considered a natural alternative for the prevention and treatment of microbial infection, and diseases associated with micro bacterial infectious disease, pending the confirmation of a larger sample size and multicenter human infection.

By evaluating the anti-influenza viral activity of MGO and its potential in combination treatments with neuraminidase (NA) inhibitors, researchers found that
* Injection of MGO inhibited influenza virus A/WSN/33 replication 50% inhibitory concentration = 240 ± 190 μM; 50% cytotoxic concentration = 1.4 ± 0.4 mM; selective index (SI) = 5.8, which is related to its virucidal effects.


* MGO exerted a promising activity against various influenza strains.


* MGO increases the effect of NA inhibitors by decreasing the to  ∼1/100(th) of their single usage.

* MGO also demonstrates a synergistic effect with NA inhibitor against the oseltamivir-resistant virus.

Taken together, Luatang honey processed bioactive compound methylglyoxal (MGO) may be considered a functional food for the prevention and combined with primary therapy for the treatment of influenza with no side effects, pending a larger and multi-center human study.
