Blood is a body fluid that delivers necessary nutrients and oxygen to the cells and transports metabolic waste products away from those same cells.
The heart formed part of the circulatory system is a muscular organ that pumps blood through the blood vessels to nourish the body tissues and organs.
The circulatory or cardiovascular system delivers nutrients and oxygen to all cells in the body, consisting of the heart and the blood vessels in the body.
More precisely, there are 2 types of large vessel
* The arteries carry blood away from the heart.
*The veins carry the blood back to the heart.
Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood. High blood pressure means raising the pressure in your heart and staying high over time, damaging the body in many ways.
Most cases of heart dysfunction are associated with the reduced function of the heart muscle, leading to reduce blood flow that facilitates heart failure and the backup of blood into the lungs or rest of the body.
Heart disease is a condition in which the heart's inner lining of blood vessels is served damage which can impede the function of transportation of oxygen and nutrition of the heart to other cells and organs in the body.
Every day, more than 2,000 Americans die as a result of heart disease. Approximately 60 million Americans have heart disease.
Believe it or not, 1 in 4 women in the US dies from heart disease and coronary heart disease.
The most common heart diseases associated with blood circulation are
* Heart diseases are affected by the arteries to the heart, such as coronary heart disease.
which is a condition of blockage of blood flow in the arteries, as a result of the hardening arterial wall, cholesterol build up, chemicals, such as cadmium clogging up arteries, etc. causes of narrowing coronary arteries.
* Heart diseases are affected by heart valve function in regulating blood flow such as valvular heart disease.
According to the statistics, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US, approximately 610,000 people die of heart disease every year.
On finding a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of heart diseases, scientists examined the alcohol (Jiu Danggui, JDG) and charred DG are the main processed products of Angelica sinensis (Danggui, DG) on blood stasis syndrome (BSS).
Angelica or Dang Qui is a herb of Genus Angelica from the family Apiaceae, indigenous to China.
The herb has been used as a Queen herb in traditional Chinese medicine antispasmodic and vasodilatory agent, and to balance the hormones in women for a normal menstrual cycle and menstruation and strengthen the heart, spleen, kidneys, and liver for both men and women, etc. In other words, it is used to treat gynecological ailments, fatigue, mild anemia, and high blood pressure. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, etc.
According to the analysis of the results of hemorheology, coagulation function parameters, and metabolomics,
* In the BSS model, JD demonstrated the best in DGPPs intervention in significant relief of rats' BSS.
* DGPP intervention showed different degrees of reverse effect on these metabolites associated with the expression of the syndrome in the tested model, and
* JDG was found to be the most effective owing to the extensive regulation effect on differential metabolites.
Based on the results, researchers suggest, "This study provides a reference for understanding the pathological mechanism of BSS and the mechanism of DGPPs, which lays a theoretical foundation for the rational use of DGPPs in clinical practice".
Taken together, Dandelion may be considered a remedy for the treatment of blood stasis syndrome (BSS), pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Angelica Sinensis Improves Hemorheology, Coagulation function Parameters, and Metabolomics in Vivos
#Polyphenol-Rich #CranberryExtract (CBE) Inhibits the Risk of #LiverInflammation, Researchers Show
Kyle J. Norton
The liver is the largest internal organ located in the upper right portion of the abdomen, beneath your diaphragm, and above your stomach.
The liver not only plays a critical role to filter the blood coming from the intestine before passing them to other parts of the body but also protects our body against toxins by detoxifying chemicals and metabolizes drugs.
Additionally, the liver also inhibits oxidative stress by producing the antioxidant enzyme that counters the expression of free radicals in the body.
Inflammation is a natural response by the immune system to protect the body against the invasion of stimuli or foreign pathogens.
Acute inflammation is a short-term condition caused by tissue injury, leading to pain, redness, swelling, and heat to the affected area. depending on the size of the injury. Some patients with acute inflammation may also experience the symptom of loss of function.
In acute inflammation, the white blood cells on the first line of defense of the immune system after sensing the danger of an infection in the body through a message from the brain stimulate the production of platelets to cover the site of injury or damage and inflammatory cytokines to kill off all pathogens before they can cause harm to the body.
Most cases of infection are stopped at the acute phase. The wound or injury is slowly recovered.
Liver inflammation is a medical condition d with autoimmune hepatitis and hepatitis and medications, drugs, toxins, and alcohol.
Cranberry is an evergreen dwarf shrub, genus Vaccinium, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern America and Southern Asia. Because of its health benefits, cranberry has been cultivated in some parts of the world for commercial profit and used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat wounds, urinary disorders, diarrhea, diabetes, stomach ailments, and liver problems.
In finding a potential compound for the treatment of liver diseases associated with oxidative stress, researchers compared the effect of a polyphenol-rich cranberry extract (CBE) and high-fat-fed obese C57BL/6J mice on hepatic inflammation.
0.8% CBE treatment for 10 weeks showed no change in body weight or visceral fat mass compared to high fat-fed control mice.
However, CBE exerted a significant decrease in plasma alanine aminotransferase (31%) associated with liver stress and histological severity of NAFLD by a 33% decrease in the area and a 29% decrease in lipid droplet size, compared to high fat-fed mice.
Hepatic protein levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha and C-C chemokine ligand 2, hepatic mRNA levels of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4,) and nuclear factorκ B (NFκB), associated with the inflammation were also reduced by 28%, 19%, 63%, and 24% and respectively, following CBE supplementation.
Furthermore, the genes related to the inflammasome of the nucleotide-binding domain, leucine-rich-containing family, pyrin domain-containing-3 also were decreased by injection of CBE supplementation.
Based on the findings, researchers said, "CBE reduced... hepatic inflammation in high fat-fed obese C57BL/6J mice"
And "These effects appear to be related to mitigation of TLR4-NFκB related signaling"
Taken together, cranberry may be considered a remedy for the treatment and management of liver inflammation, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Angelica Inhibits #GastricCancer Cell Proliferation, and Triggered Cellular Apoptosis, According to Studies
Kyle J. Norton
Cancer is a class of diseases associated with the growth of cells disorderly and uncontrollably due to the alternation of DNA.
Most cases of cancer begin in the cells on the surface of the inner lining tissues of the organ or gland. At the early stage, most cancers are asymptomatic.
However, at the advanced stage, most cancers not can induce common symptoms such as gastrointestinal discomforts, unintended weight loss, loss of appetite, and fatigue but also localized symptoms depending on the affected tissues and organs.
The American Cancer Society wrote, "Cancer may also cause symptoms like fever, extreme tiredness (fatigue), or weight loss. Because cancer cells use up much of the body’s energy supply, or they may release substances that change the way the body makes energy from food. Cancer can also cause the immune system to react in ways that produce these signs and symptoms" and " Sometimes, cancer cells release substances into the bloodstream that cause symptoms that are not usually linked to cancer".
Cancers at this stage also can travel a distance away from the original site to induce secondary metastasis.
According to the statistics provided by the American cancer society, in 2018,1,735,350 new cases were diagnosed, representing more than 4,700 new cancer diagnoses each day.
The lifetime probability of being diagnosed with cancer is 39.7% for men and 37.6% for women.
Compared to all cancers, lung, breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers are the most common cancer in the US.
The prevalent factors associated with the risk of cancer are age, excessive alcohol drinking, exposure to cancer causing-substances, diseases associated with chronic inflammation, unhealthy diet, hormone therapy, and use of immunosuppression.
Cancers are the second leading cause of death worldwide besides heart diseases. Believe it or not, 1/4 of cancers death are due to lung cancer.
In finding a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, scientists examined Radix Angelica Sinensis (Danggui in Chinese) is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). N-butylidenephthalide (BP), a bioactive compound in Dangui, is a potential antitumor agent for various cancer types.
According to the experimental results,* Danggui users were found to have an increased survival rate when compared with Danggui nonusers (log-rank test p = 0.002).
* The use of Danggui is highly associated with decreased mortality (the adjusted hazard ratio (HR) of Danggui users was 0.72 [95 % CI, 0.57-0.92] (p = 0.009).
* The in vitro results showed that BP inhibited gastric cancer cell proliferation, and triggered cellular apoptosis depending on the activation of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway.
* According to the RNA-seq analysis, BP induced an increase of REDD1 expression that inhibits mTOR signaling, thus inhibiting gastric cancer growth.
* BP suppressed the growth of AGS xenograft tumor in vivo.
Based on the results, researchers suggest, "Danggui can prolong the survival rate of gastric cancer patients in Taiwan. BP caused gastric cancer cell death through the activation of mitochondria-intrinsic pathway and induced the REDD1 expression leading to mTOR signal pathway inhibition in gastric cancer cells".
Taken altogether, Dandelion may be considered anti-cancer activity, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Herbal #Cinnamon #AqueousExtract Inhibits the Amyloid Precursor Protein Associated with the Risk of Alzheimer's Diseases
Kyle J. Norton
Adding spicy cinnamon into your diet may have a significant effect on blocking the onset of Alzheimer's Disease, a new study suggested.
Although cinnamon is best known for its anti-diabetic effect, spices also consist of certain chemical constituents associated to prevent insulin resistance(2).
The herb has been used in folk medicine as an anti-fungal and bacterial agent and to improve the reproductive organ, prevent flatulence and intestinal cramping, treat indigestion, diarrhea, bad breath, headache, migraine, etc.(3).
Alzheimer's disease is a brain disorder correlated with major reductions of neurons to the respective target areas, named after German physician Alois Alzheimer.
Alzheimer's destroys brain cells, causing cognitive modalities severe enough to affect language communication, memory, lifelong hobbies, or social life.
Alzheimer's gets worse over time, and it is fatal.
According to statistics, over 25 million people in the world today are affected by dementia and most are suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
The exact causes of Alzheimer's disease are unknown. However, some researchers suggested that certain risk factors such as cigarette smoking, midlife high blood pressure and obesity, diabetes, and cerebrovascular lesions, and psychosocial factors (high education, active social engagement, physical exercise, and mentally stimulating activity) are associated with the onset of the disease(10).
Some researchers suggested that people who are following lifelong intake of the Western diet and at higher risk due to family history should be aware of some early signs and symptoms such as memory loss, the difficulty of planning and solving problems, completing familiar tasks, determining time or place, finding the right words, misplacing items often. ... and difficulty making decisions.
If you experience some signs and symptoms above, please make sure to check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.
In insulin resistance Winstar male rats induced by high fat/high fructose (HF/HFr), researchers found that injection of cinnamon (CN) alleviates the increases of mRNA associated with Alzheimer's such as PTEN, Tau, and amyloid precursor protein, through its neuroprotective activity associated with improved whole-body insulin sensitivity and related changes in the brain. (4).
Cinnamon aqueous extract has also been found to have the ability to inhibit tau aggregation in vitro and even induce dissociation of tangles isolated from AD brain, as well as sequestering highly reactive and toxic byproducts of oxidation, through protecting tau from abnormal modifications, according to the University of California(5).
PTEN is a tumor suppressor gene involved in the regulation of the cell cycle.
Tau protein is found in neurons of the central nervous system, and un-stabilized microtubules have been found in patients with Alzheimer's Disease.
Amyloid precursor protein plays an important role in the formation of synapses between neurons in the nervous system, showed to generate beta-amyloid (Aβ) in patients with Alzheimer's diseases
In cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's disease animal models, caused by the accumulation of soluble oligomeric assemblies of the β-amyloid polypeptide (Aβ), oral administration of the cinnamon extract (CEppt), enhanced the decrease of Aβ oligomers, reduction of plaques, and improvement in cognitive behavior(6).
Some researchers suggested that the spice may be used as amyloid-beta aggregation blockers as a few approved drugs available to treat Alzheimer's disease(9) due to many potential drugs in the pipeline for the disease and other amyloid-associated illnesses may not be as promising as thought(8).
Taken altogether, cinnamon and its extract may have a protective effect in reducing risk and for treatment of Alzheimer's Disease, through reduction of the complication causes by metabolic syndromes such as obesity and diabetes.
According to DR. Georgakopoulou EA(7), Oral intake of Cinnamon may cause Stomatitis and a burning sensation in the mouth with a large amount. According to traditional Chinese medicine, overdoses of cinnamon can be toxic and damage the liver(1)(7).

#Cranberry Capsules (containing 72 mg proanthocyanidins [PACS]) Reduce the Incidence, Symptoms and Burning of Radiation Cystitis in Prostate Cancer Patients
Kyle J. Norton
Cystitis is a medical condition associated with inflammation of the bladder, leading to the symptoms of bladder irritation and swelling. Women are prone to the condition compared to men.
The most common cause of bladder cystitis is a bacterial infection involved in a urinary tract infection (UTI). However, radiotherapy, long-term use of certain medicines, and hygiene products have also been found to induce bladder inflammation.
The most common symptoms of cystitis are frequent urge to urinate, urge to urinate after you’ve emptied your bladder, cloudy or strong-smelling urine, pain during sexual intercourse, and sensations of pressure or bladder fullness.
In serious cases, patients may also experience symptoms of fever, blood in their urine, and cramping in their abdomen or back.
The prostate warped around a tube (the urethra) is a gland of the male reproductive system found in front of the rectum and just below the bladder, that makes some of the semen carry sperm.
Prostate cancer is a medical condition caused by abnormal cell growth in the tissue of the prostate. Low-growing prostate cancer may be detected during physical (rectum) exams.
Conventionally, antibiotics are effective for the treatment of cystitis if the bacteria that cause the infection has been identified.
Most cases of acute cystitis are treated by nitrofurantoin monohydrate/macrocrystals, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX) accompanied by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen (Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) to reduce pain and inflammation.
In finding a potential compound for the treatment of prostate diseases, researchers examined the effect of highly standardized cranberry capsules (containing 72 mg proanthocyanidins [PACS]) compared with that placebo capsules on the incidence and severity of radiation cystitis.
The double-blinded randomized placebo-controlled study included 41 men with prostate cancer who took one capsule a day at breakfast during treatment for 2 weeks.
According to the tested analysis,

* The severe cystitis was reduced to 30% of men in the cranberry group compared to 45% in the placebo.
* Furthermore, the cranberry capsules group also significantly reduced symptoms of pain/burning.
* Additionally, the cranberry capsules group also showed a stronger urine stream and a decrease in the use of significantly fewer pads/liners, compared to the placebo.
Based on the results, researchers said, "Men receiving radiation therapy for prostate cancer may benefit from using cranberry capsules, particularly those on low hydration regimens or with baseline urinary symptoms".
Taken altogether, cranberry may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of cystitis.in prostate cancer patients, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Honey Improves Cough and Sleep Quality in Children, Scientists Say
Kyle J. Norton
Scientists may have found a natural alternative for the improvement of sleep quality with no side effects, according to studies.
Sleep disorders are conditions that can be acute or chronic. Most of us experience sleep disturbance sometimes due to specific and unspecific events. However, chronic sleep disorders are changes in the way that you sleep.
Most people with chronic sleep disorder experience symptoms of excessive daytime sleepiness, irregular breathing or increased movement during sleep, and difficulty falling asleep.
Sleep quality can be measured by examing the. the way that you sleep, including the time period that you need to fall to asleep and how many times you have awakened and drifted back to sleep during night sleep.
According to the statistic provided by the National Sleep Foundation’s inaugural Sleep Health Index, 45 % of Americans have poor or insufficient sleep. which affects their daily activities at least once in the past seven days.
The National Sleep Foundation continued, "...despite sleeping within the recommended number of hours a night, 35 percent of Americans report their sleep quality as “poor” or “only fair.” Twenty percent of Americans reported that they did not wake up feeling refreshed on any of the past seven days".
What causes poor quality of sleep in America? Some researchers suggested these may be results of occupation and occupation stress.
Dr, Eui-Joong Kim, the lead scientist, in examing the stressors' effect on sleep quality said, "It is possible that different types of stressors may bring with them different impacts on sleep" and " (a) some aspect of daily stress (such as job stress) and life events (such as divorce, bereavement), (b) experimentally imposed stressors (laboratory-based studies), and (c) traumatic stressors (such as disasters or PTSD)".
Additionally, " The first and last categories typically involve a longer duration of the stress exposure with varying levels of intensity; the experimental stressors, on the other hand, typically involve a short-term exposure to mild stress".
These results partly explained why over 20% of Americans suffer from poor quality of sleep.
Honey is a miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.
The rich golden liquid is considered one of the healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener.
With an aim to find a natural compound for the improvement of sleep quality, researchers compared the effects of a single nocturnal dose of 3 honey products (eucalyptus honey, citrus honey, or Labiatae honey) to placebo (silan date extract) in children with upper respiratory tract infections (URIs).
The study included 300 children aged 1 to 5 years with URIs, nocturnal cough, and illness duration of ≤ 7 days from 6 general pediatric community clinics.
Eligible children received a single dose of 10 g of eucalyptus honey, citrus honey, Labiatae honey, or a placebo administered 30 minutes before bedtime. There was a significant improvement in sleep quality from the night before treatment to the night after treatment in all 3 honey products and the placebo group.
However, the improvement was greater in the honey groups.
Honey products were rated higher than the silan date extract for symptomatic relief of their children's nocturnal cough and sleep difficulty due to URI, According to the survey returned from parents.
Dr. Cohen HA the lead scientist after taking into account co and confounders, said, "Honey may be a preferable treatment for a cough and sleep difficulty associated with childhood URI".
Furthermore, in order to reveal more information on honey effects in cough and sleep difficulty, researchers compared the effects of a single nocturnal dose of buckwheat honey or honey-flavored dextromethorphan (DM) with no treatment on nocturnal cough and sleep difficulty associated with childhood upper respiratory tract infections.
The study included 105 children aged 2 to 18 years with upper respiratory tract infections, nocturnal symptoms, and illness duration of 7 days or less who were given a single dose of buckwheat honey, honey-flavored DM, or no treatment administered 30 minutes prior to bedtime.
The honey treatment group demonstrated significant differences in symptom improvement between treatment groups.
In paired comparisons, honey was significantly superior to no treatment for cough frequency and the combined score.
And, according to the survey returned by the parents, honey is most favorable for symptomatic relief of their child's nocturnal cough and sleep difficulty in children with upper respiratory tract infections.
Taken altogether, honey may be considered a functional remedy for the improvement of sleep quality, pending the confirmation of a large sample size and multicenter human study.

#Bromelain Increases the Cytotoxicity of Chemo-Drug #Cisplatin Significantly in #PeritonealMesothelioma Cells in Vitro
Kyle J. Norton
Peritoneal mesothelioma is a medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissues of the abdomen (the peritoneum).
Most cases of peritoneal mesothelioma begin in the cell on the surface of the inner lining of the peritoneum, before penetrating into the deeper layers.
At the early stage, due to the small size of the tumor, patients with peritoneal mesothelioma are asymptomatic.
However, at the later stage, patients may experience symptoms of abdominal pain or swelling due to the larger size tumor pressed on the nearby nerves tissues and blood vessels, changes in bowel habits, feeling of fullness, and night sweat accompanied by the general symptoms shared by other types of cancer, such as unexplained weight loss, gastrointestinal discomforts, and loss of appetite.
According to the statistics provided by the American Cancer Society, compared to other types of cancer mesothelioma is rare, with approximately 2,000 to 3,000 new cases of mesothelioma in the US each year. The asbestos-related mesothelioma only accounts for less than 0.3 percent of all cancer diagnosed in the country.
Peritoneal mesothelioma accounts for less than 20 percent of all mesothelioma cases.
Dr. Rodolfo Fonte, the lead scientist in the examination of the risk of asbestos-induced peritoneal mesothelioma in a construction worker, wrote, "Peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive asbestos-related malignancy. We present the case of a 65-year-old man who developed recurrent ascites after having been exposed to asbestos in the building industry for > 40 years".
And, "Occupational history and immunohistochemistry are helpful for the correct diagnosis, which, in turn, is important in relation to prognosis and treatment (adoption of new integrated procedures that seem to promise prolonged survival and increased quality of life), and in relation to medico-legal issues and occupation-related compensation claims following asbestos exposure".
Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapples (Ananas comosus) has been used in traditional medicine as an inflammatory agent and to treat pains, strains, muscle aches and pains and ease back pain and chronic joint pain, skin diseases, etc.
With an aim to find a natural ingredient for the treatment of peritoneal mesothelioma, researchers examined the effects of Bromelain (cysteine proteinase) effects on Mucin 1 (MUC1), a glycosylation-dependent protein that confers tumors with invasiveness, metastasis, and chemoresistance.
In the study in which researchers compared the efficacy with the application of various concentrations of bromelain and after 4 and 72 h and combinations of bromelain and cytotoxic drugs (cisplatin or 5-FU) at 72 h, MUC1-expressing MPM cell lines found that bromelain increased the cytotoxicity of cisplatin significantly in cell lines.
Compared to the aforementioned inhibition, combining fluorouracil with bromelain did not show a significant increase in cytotoxicity.
In other words, bromelain improves the chemotherapy depending totally on the types of drugs used for the treatment of peritoneal mesothelioma.
Furthermore, bromelain used alone also showed a significant effect in inducing cell death by apoptosis and autophagy.
On pancreatic and breast cancer cells, injection of bromelain also adversely affected the viability of MUC1 expressing on both cell lines.
Based on the findings, Bromelain used alone or combined with other chemo drugs might have a strong effect on the barrier function of MUC1.
Collectively, bromelain inhibited the progression and proliferation of peritoneal mesothelioma by blocking the activity of the gene MUC1.
Dr. Pillai K, the lead scientist said, "Current evidence indicates that bromelain may have the potential of being developed into an effective anticancer agent for MPM".
Taken altogether, bromelain may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of peritoneal mesothelioma, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of bromelain in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.
