* Omega3 fatty acid inhibited the elevated TG levels that increased the risk of CV events and very high TG levels are associated with acute pancreatitis.


Collectively, researchers said, " This review focuses on the clinical practice guidelines for the management of hypertriglyceridemia and the role of prescription omega-3 fatty acids in preventing pancreatitis and CV disease in individuals with high and very high TG levels".


Taken altogether, Omega-3 fatty acids may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Cholesterol can be produced by the liver or by eating some fatty foods. There are 2 types of cholesterol, the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) which carries the aforementioned functions, and the high-density lipoprotein (HDL) which returns the cholesterol to the liver for reuse.

The healthy ratio of blood cholesterol is 4 (LDL)/1 (HDL). If you have a number that is lowers than 4, you have healthy blood cholesterol.

Hyperlipidemia is one member of the cluster conditions of metabolic syndrome, therefore, if you have a number that is higher than 4, your risk of cardiovascular is increased compared to people with healthy levels.

Although there are many risk factors associated with the onset of hyperlipidemia, some researchers suggested that the association between widespread obesity and hyperlipidemia in US adults is worrisome in the scientific community.

Measurements repeated 2 weeks later, showed that BMI and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol values were significantly correlated (r = -0.487; P < .001) as were BMI and a lower ratio of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol to HDL cholesterol (r = 0.420; P < .001).

In other words, with the injection of honey, subjects with a high BMI had a lower HDL cholesterol value.

Even though neither solution influenced significantly cholesterol or triglyceride values in the total group; substituting honey for sugar in their diet showed to reduce the BMI and lower the LDL cholesterol value.

The finding suggested honey does not have a direct effect on normalizing the levels of blood cholesterol but indirectly reduces the patient's BMI value, which has been found to have strong effects in decreasing the levels of cholesterol.

Furthermore, according to research presented at the national meeting of the American Chemical Society, the world's largest scientific society, honey fights cholesterol as well as some fruits and vegetables.

The study included 25 men between the ages of 18 - and 68 who are given a mixture of water and honey, about four tablespoons per 16-ounce glass in a five-week.

A blood sample withdrawn at the end of the experience showed reduced levels of cholesterol by improving the antioxidant levels in the blood.

Moreover, the application of the mixture also has a significant effect in reducing the risk of atherosclerosis caused by plaque such as cholesterol and other substances build up on the arterial wall.

To find healthy food for controlling high blood glucose, researchers examined the effect of dry tomato peel (DTP) on insulin resistance, and atherogenic dyslipidemia induced by a high-saturated fat (HSF) diet in an animal model for 12 weeks.

The study included 40 selected BALB/c male mice (n=40) (8 weeks old, weighing 22.2±1.0 g) divided into four treatment groups (10 mice/group): (a) high-fat control diet (HF Ctrl), which contains sunflower oil as a sole source of fat; (b) HSF/high-cholesterol (HC) diet; (c) HSF/HC diet supplemented with 9% DTP and (d) HSF/HC diet supplemented with 17% DTP.

According to the results from the tested assays, supplementation with DTP not only increased the plasma lycopene concentration and reduced the development of indicators of metabolic syndrome, particularly insulin resistance.

However, hepatic steatosis and inflammation caused by the injection of high-fat diet mice were not reversed with DTP supplementation.

In other words, DTP improved the plasma concentration of lycopene by normalizing the levels of blood glucose in tested mice through its anti-insulin resistance activity.

Dr. Zidani S, the lead scientist said, "Among mice fed the HSF/HC diet, DTP supplementation appears to have a beneficial effect on insulin resistance, which confirms the antiatherogenic effect of DTP".

In vivo, also in high-fat diet (HF)-induced obese mice, tomato vinegar beverage (TVB) at 14 mL kg(-1) body weight for 6 weeks not only inhibited the symptoms associated with fat accumulated in the liver but also promoted glucose tolerance, hyperinsulinemia, and HOMA-IR levels.

Levels of antioxidants in the tested were also significantly improved by TVB. TVB inhibited oxidative stress by significantly increasing glucokinase activity and decreased glucose-6-phosphatase activity in the liver,

More precisely, TVB enhanced glucose metabolism in obese mice. against the onset of insulin resistance.

Based on the findings, researchers wrote, "These results suggest that TVB prevents visceral obesity and insulin resistance via AMPK/PPARα-mediated fatty acid and glucose oxidation (Antioxidant property(TVB)".

Taken together, tomatoes may be considered a dietary supplement for the prevention and treatment of insulin resistance, pending to large sample size and multicenter human study.

The study included animals that were separated into five groups; the non-diabetic group (ND), the diabetic control group (DC), and the treatment groups of insulin (170 μg/kg, s.c), metformin (500 mg/kg, p.o), and OA (80 mg/kg, p.o). OA was administered orally twice a day.

According to the results of the analysis,
* Untreated diabetic rats exhibited hyperglycemia, elevated glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), oxidative stress, and a reduced erythropoietin (EPO) concentration when compared to ND rats.

* The administration of OA attenuated hyperglycemia, HbA1c, and EPO concentrations compared to DC rats.

* Furthermore, OA also decreased the blood glucose concentration, HbA1c, and improved EPO concentrations associated with a notable increase in red blood cell (RBC) count and other RBC indices.

* Moreover, OA increased the antioxidant status of the RBCs with a concomitant decrease in oxidative stress.

Collectively, researchers said, "These findings suggest that OA improves diabetes-induced hematological changes caused by hyperglycemia and attenuates the progression of cardiovascular complications in DM individuals".


Taken altogether, oleanolic acid may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of diabetes, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
