Sulforaphane, the main chemical constituent of broccoli sprouts may activate anti-inflammatory activity in the open upper airway for reduced risk of asthma and treatment of asthma complications, some scientists suggested.
The phytochemicals sulforaphane is a compound belonging to the isothiocyanate group.
According to epidemiological studies, sulforaphane processed detoxification, anti-diabetes, anticancer, anti-aging, neuroprotective properties.
These health benefits have also been proven by studies conducted by a number of best-known institutes and published in the online medical literature.
Readers can find some of the related studies by searching online with keywords such as sulforaphane and diabetes, sulforaphane and cancers, and sulforaphane and heart diseases,.......
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the airway of the lung with recurring symptoms, such as wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing.
The disease affects people of all ages, and most starts during childhood.
According to the statistic from the American Academy of allergy asthma and Immunology, in 2016, approximately 8.3% of children in the United States had asthma. The prevalent rate of boys was slightly higher compared to girls at 9.2% and 7.4%, respectively.
Cruciferous vegetables are a group of vegetable belongings to the family Brassicaceae, including cauliflower, cabbage, cress, bok choy, broccoli, etc.
Broccoli sprout is a three- to four-day-old young plant of broccoli, belongings to a group of cruciferous vegetables and available in health food stores.
In rare cases, asthma may induce serious respiratory complications, such as pneumonia (infection of the lungs) and a collapse of part or all of the lungs, and respiratory failure.
According to the study from the UCLA team, in a total of 65 participating volunteers, 3 days of oral administration of broccoli or preparations of sprout at 100 grams, significantly increased antioxidants and antioxidant enzymes produced by body tissue, in compared with the placebo group.
At maximum doses of 200 grams, broccoli sprouts also induced a significant increase of detoxified(GSTP1) and antibody NQO1 enzymes.
Glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1) is a natural enzyme produced by the body of the host with function in inhibited toxicity caused by cisplatin, a chemo medicine for the treatment of cancers.
NAD(P)H dehydrogenase [quinone] 1, an enzyme encoded by the NQO1 gene plays an important role in quinone detoxification. Where Quinone is considered an oxidized derivative of aromatic compounds.
In support of the above, the study of antioxidant enzymes in the human upper airway found, broccoli sprouts demonstrated the potential antioxidant effect to reduce the inflammation of oxidative stress in the induction of airway disease, such as asthma.
Oxidative stress is associated with the overexpression of free radicals compared to levels of antioxidants produced by the host body tissue.
Some researchers suggested that prolonged periods of oxidative stress can lead to chronic inflammation in mediated most chronic diseases including pulmonary diseases, through activation of overexpression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including Interleukin (IL)-1 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and a variety of transcription factors, including NF-κB, AP-1, p53,.....
Activation of pro-inflammation by immune cells, such as helper T cells (Th) and macrophages in the protection of our body against infectious organisms in the acute phase of tissue damage or injury, may increase the risk of forming of scar tissue and have a deleterious effect on the host in the induction of numbers of syndromes and diseases, including hypotension, intravascular thrombosis, pulmonary edema, hemorrhage.....
Additionally, a randomized controlled trial in healthy young adults also suggested that chemical compound isothiocyanates found in cruciferous vegetable, including broccoli sprout, exhibits anti-inflammatory effects through altered serum concentrations of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, C-reactive protein (CRP), and necrosis factor (TNF) α,, that involved in systemic inflammation.
Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is an interleukin that acts as both a pro-inflammatory cytokine and anti-inflammatory cyokines.
Altering serum concentrations may have a profound effect in reduced overexpression of pro-inflammatory levels produced by interleukin 6 (IL-6) and 8.
Interleukin-8 (IL-8) is produced by a variety of tissue and blood cells.
C-reactive protein (CRP) is produced by the liver, expression of CRP is considered a blood test maker of increased inflammation in the body.
Further analysis, also showed that intake of cruciferous vegetables(broccoli sprouts) reduces the circulation of proinflammatory cytokines, namely IL-6 through inhibiting the expression of abnormal function of gene Glutathione S-Transferase Theta 1(GSTT1) metabolism in lower levels of glutathione, the antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.
Dr. Navarro SL, the lead researcher said, " IL-6 concentrations were significantly lower on day 14 of (the double-dose cruciferous) (2xC) and (cruciferous plus apiaceous (carrot family) 1xC+A diets than with the basal diet,...respectively" and " Twenty-four-hour urinary isothiocyanate excretion was not associated with any of the inflammation markers overall; however, IL-6 was inversely associated with total isothiocyanate excretion in GSTM1(The antioxidant enzyme)".
Taking all together, the intake of broccoli sprouts daily and regularly is associated to increase circulation of Sulforaphane in the regulation of the overexpression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and increase of detoxified enzymes permanently in ameliorated airway inflammation in patients with airway inflammatory diseases.

#ChasteTreeBerry Exerts Anti Type I and II #Diabetes Through Its Hypoglycemic and Pancreatic, and Hepatic Protective Effects< According to Studies
Kyle J. Norton
Chaste tree berries may have the potential the improving pancreatic islet regeneration and hepatic insulin sensitivity for the cure of Type I and II diabetes, some scientists suggested.
Diabetes is a condition caused by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream in the regulation of glucose.
The diseases are either caused by cells in the pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol. In some cases, diabetes is also caused by the allergic reaction of cells in the immune system.
The cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown, however, it is the result of the immune system mistakenly destroying the insulin-producing (islet, or islets of Langerhans) cells in the pancreas.
The mystery is why the immune system attached the specific insulin-producing cells in the pancreas?
A recent study suggested that the immune system does not destroy the entire colony of the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas but reduced the number of existence and function in the production of insulin.
In other words, according to the Exeter Clinical Research Facility in the study of 74 volunteers. by measuring how much natural insulin tested subjects produced, as responded to meals, researchers found that 73 percent of islets produced very low levels of insulin.
Chaste tree berry is a species of Vitex agnus-castus, genus Vitex, belongings to the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region.
Herbal medicine has been used for thousands of years as an aphrodisiac herb and is considered a Queen herb in treating menstrual problems and discomforts.
In the study to test two water-soluble extracts (aqueous and ethanolic) obtained from the leaves of Vitex doniana, researchers at the Ahmadu Bello University, launched an investigation to test whether these extracts exert any protection of the pancreas against normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.
According to the results of the experiment, the application of extracts of chaste tree berry displayed significant effects in increased volume density of pancreatic islet as well as the percentage of β-cells and size of the islet compared to the non-treated diabetic control which showed complete degeneration of the islet cells.
Treated rats also showed a reduction (P<0.05) in the serum activities of marker enzymes, alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase in diabetes-treated rats,
In healthy individuals, the ALT levels in the blood are low but the serum increase substantially in patients with diabetes caused by liver damage in decreased hepatic insulin sensitivity.
High levels of alanine aminotransferase are a marker of decreased hepatic insulin sensitivity and a predictor of the onset of type 2 diabetes.
Compared to healthy individuals, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), an enzyme, has been found to elevate in diabetes patients.
Furthermore, injection of an extract of chaste tree berry also lowered the serum of total bilirubin and unconjugated bilirubin which were found to associate negatively to the onset of diabetes.
These results of differentiation indicated that extracts of chaste tree berry exert a liver protective effect of the treatment group against diabetics in the induction of decreased hepatic insulin sensitivity and normalized the pancreas function in the production of insulin through restoring the numbers of scattering islet cells.
Application of the extracts also induced regeneration and repairing of damaged islet cells in the pancreas.
Dr. Oche O, the lead researcher said, "Plant extracts, (exhibited) regeneration of β-cells along with β-cells repairs, in compared to the non-treated diabetic control which showed complete degeneration of the islet cells".
More important, in D-galactose-induced pancreatic disorder in an aging mouse model, treatment of Vitex agnus-castus (VAC) demonstrated potential pancreatic protective and hypoglycemic effects through the improved size of pancreatic islets decreased in aged and D-galactose groups.
A total of 72 adult female Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI) mice (weighing 30-35 g) were divided into 6 groups of control, VAC hydroalcoholic extract, D-galactose, D-galactose + VAC hydroalcoholic extract, aged, aged + VAC hydroalcoholic extract through subcutaneous injection of D-galactose for 45 days and, VAC hydroalcoholic extract gavaged twice a day in the last 7 days. 24 h after the last drug and extract administrations, a group treated with Chaste tree berry extract or combinations of the extract showed increased levels of insulin and decreased serum glucose and D-galactose level in compared to other treatment groups.
The study also found, "Despite the size of pancreatic islets decreased in aged and D-galactose groups, ........... VAC hydroalcoholic extract has hypoglycemic and pancreatic protective effects in naturally aged and aging model mice".
In fact, there is also a report indicating that oral administration of once daily diabetic rats for a period of 30 days of iridoid glucoside isolated from a chaste tree berry may be effective as glibenclamide, a known hypoglycemic drug, at a concentration of 50 mg/kg b.w.
Promisingly, iridoid glucoside reversed hyperglycemia-induced biochemical changes to near-normal levels.
Collectively, Chaste tree berries may be used as a functional food for curing Type I and Type II diabetes through its hypoglycemic and pancreatic, and hepatic protective effects.
However, further data collection on studies performed with human consumption during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of its antidiabetes possibilities.
Intake of chaste tree berry extracts should be taken with extreme care, as overdoses may cause acute liver toxicity.

Healthyfood #Carrots Improve the Atherosclerotic Vascular Events and Reduce the Risk of Stroke, Researchers Suggest
Kyle J. Norton
Carrots may have a profound and positive effect in reducing the risk of stroke, some scientists suggested.
Stroke is a medical condition caused by reduced blood flow to the brain resulting in cell death due to the blocked artery (ischemic stroke) or the leaking or bursting of a blood vessel (hemorrhagic stroke).
There is a general belief that stroke is an accumulation over a long period of unhealthy diet with red meat and processed meats which are assassinated increased artery-clogging.
Some researchers suggested that an increased intake of fruits and vegetables such as carrots accompanied with good fats such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel may have a substantial effect in reduced inflammation in the arteries and improving blood flow, and decreasing the chance of blood clots.
Sadly, stroke is one of the most common causes of death worldwide.
Carrot, a root vegetable with an orange color is a subspecies of Daucus carota, belongings to the family Apiaceae, native to Asian and Europe.
In the review of literature published to understand more of the role of carotenoids as antioxidants in lowering stroke risk based on observational studies, researchers at the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences conduct a search with some important keywords, including (Carotenoids [MeSH] OR Carotenes [tiab] OR Carotene [tiab] OR "lycopene [Supplementary Concept]" [MeSH] OR lycopene [tiab] OR beta-Carotene [tiab]) AND (stroke [MeSH] OR stroke [tiab] OR "Cerebrovascular Accident" [tiab] OR "Cerebrovascular Apoplexy" [tiab] OR "Brain Vascular Accident" [tiab] OR "Cerebrovascular Stroke" [tiab]) AND ("oxidative stress" [MeSH] OR "oxidative stress"[tiab]).
The results of the searching of papers published between 2000 and 2017 suggested that
* High dietary intake of six main carotenoids (i.e., lycopene, <- and®-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, and astaxanthin) was associated with reduced risk of stroke due to their benefits in reduced overexpression of reactive oxygen species.
* Beyond the antioxidant activities in preventing free radicals in the induction of chain reaction, other properties and mechanisms in ameliorated risk of stroke were not identified in studies that satisfied the guideline and criteria.
As a result, there is no surprise that dietary intake of six major carotenoids was promoted as stroke prevention and stroke mortality reduction.
Further in differentiation the benefits of lycopene a bioactive member in carotenoids, researchers found that intake of food containing a high amount of lycopene demonstrates a substantially reduced risk of stroke in compared to nontakers.
According to the assessment of pooled analysis of seven prospective studies, with 116,127 participants and 1,989 cases, frequent consumption of lycopene decreased stroke risk by 19.3%, after adjusting for confounding factors.
However, circulating lycopene was associated with a statistically significant decrease in stroke risk in compared to not dietary lycopene, although both concentrations are inversely associated with stroke risk.
In gender and geographic analysis, researchers also stated that lycopene exerts a strong impact in preventing the onset of stroke, particularly in European, or male gender.
Dr. the lead scientist said, " Duration of follow-up had no effect on the final results. There was no evidence of publication bias" and " Lycopene, especially circulating lycopene, is negatively associated with stroke risk".
Additionally, in the examine the hypothesis of whether low serum levels of lycopene are associated with increased risk of acute coronary events and stroke in middle-aged men previously free of CHD and stroke, researchers launched an investigation of 725 men aged 46-64 years examined in 1991-3 in the Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study.
By December 1997, out of 725 patients, 41 men were found to have either a fatal or a non-fatal acute coronary event or a stroke.
According to the observation of a Cox's proportional hazard model, after adjusting to examination years, age, systolic blood pressure, and three nutritional factors (serum folate, beta-carotene, and plasma vitamin C), researchers found that all 41 men are in the lowest quarter of serum lycopene levels.
These results once again suggested that daily intake of lycopene-risk foods increases the circulating lycopene and plays an essential role in the prevented risk of atherosclerotic vascular events in middle-aged men previously free of CHD and stroke.
Truly, patients with lower levels of serum lycopene were found to have a 3.3-fold (95 % CI 1.7, 6.4, risk of acute coronary events or stroke in compared with the others.
Taken together, carrot with high amount of bioactive carotenoids, especially lycopene may be considered as a functional food in reduced the prevalent risk of stroke.
People who are at a higher quarter of stroke risk may want to add a portion of carrots into their daily diet as a preventive measure.

Tomatoes Inhibit #Photodermatoses, and PhotoAging Associated with a Reduced Expression of Oxidativestress, Researchers Find
Kyle J. Norton
Tomatoes may have a profound and positive effect on improved skin health, some scientists suggested.
The results of the analysis were carried out by several universities and research companies, including IUF - Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine, and published in a number of online literature.
Tomato is red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belongings to the family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of their health benefits, tomato is grown worldwide for commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.
In the aim to reaffirm tomatoes' effect in reduced negative impact against ultraviolet (UV)A/B and UVA1 radiation at a molecular level, scientists at the IUF - Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine launched a study of the tomato bioactive compounds lutein and lycopene photoprotective effect on human skin health.
The purpose of the study was to assess the two active treatments containing either lycopene (TNC) or lutein to test for their capacity in decreased expression of UVA1 the radiation-inducible genes HO1, ICAM1, and MMP1
Gene heme oxygenase 1 (HO1) is an enzyme with the function to protect cells from oxidative damage, in this case, it was the UVA1
Gene intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM1) also known as CD54 (Cluster of Differentiation 54) is a protein with function in adhesion phenomena involved in the immune response.
Matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) also known as interstitial collagenase and fibroblast collagenase is an enzyme with the function to break down collagens located in the ECM.
The placebo-controlled, double-blinded, randomized, crossover study included 65 healthy volunteers allocated to four treatment groups and subjected to a 2-week washout phase, followed by two 12-week treatment phases separated by another 2 weeks of washout.
Volunteers started either with active treatment and were then switched to placebo, or vice versa.
24 hours after the irradiation phase skin, biopsies were taken from untreated, UVA/B- and UVA1-irradiated skin for subsequent reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction analysis of gene expression.
Interestingly, after taking into account other co and confounders, researchers found that lycopene isolated from tomato exerts strong activities in completely inhibited UVA1- and UVA/B-induced upregulation of heme-oxygenase 1, intercellular adhesion molecule 1 and matrix metallopeptidase 1, through restricting the transformation of mRNA in initiated cell changes.
Blood samples taken from the lycopene treatment group showed a clinically relative protective effect on skin cells through its inhibition of levels of oxidative stress induced by UVA1- and UVA/B exposure compared to other groups.
Compared to the lycopene active group, the group treated with lutein injection provided complete protection taken in the first period but showed insignificant effects in the second sequence.
These results suggested that there must be some unknown mechanisms to cause the reduced levels of
lutein in the second sequence compared to TNC.
Dr. Grether-Beck S, the lead author said, " the role of these genes as indicators of oxidative stress, photodermatoses, and photo aging" and " these results might indicate that TNC and lutein could protect against solar radiation-induced health damage".
Furthermore, in re-evaluated the effect of Carotenoids in skin photoprotection against UV radiation through analysis of the collection of dermal biopsies of healthy humans (N=27) and blood samples, researchers reconfirmed that lycopene and beta-carotene made up the majority of carotenoids in both skin and plasma followed by beta-cryptoxanthin.
These expressions suggested that lycopene and beta-carotene may play important role in improved skin health through its antioxidant activity in compared to other members of carotenoids such as
dihydroxy carotenoids, lutein, and zeaxanthin.
In other words, the skin of humans is relatively enriched in lycopene and beta-carotene, compared to lutein and zeaxanthin, possibly reflecting a specific function of hydrocarbon carotenoids in human skin photoprotection.
Additionally, in the examination the skin collected from 74 men and women with diverse skin pigmentation using the Resonance Raman spectroscopy (RRS) to measure the palm, inner arm, and outer arm were obtained at baseline, 1 wk, 2 wk, 1 mo, 3 mo, and 6 mo (to maximize seasonal variation), researchers with no surprise found that total carotenoids across time are 0.97 (palm), 0.95 (inner arm), and 0.93 (outer arm).
Similarly, the assessment of lycopene by RRS was significantly correlated with lycopene assessed by HPLC of dermal biopsies (r = 0.74, P < 0.0001).
These findings once again indicated the protective effect of tomato and the bioactive ingredient lycopene on skin health compared to other compounds.
Taken together, there is no doubt that tomato with its major bioactive phytochemical may be considered a functional food for improved skin health against skin damage caused by A number of negative implications including oxidative stress, photodermatoses, and photoaging.

#Healthyfood #Carrots Prevent the Onset of Inflammatory Related Diseases By Inhibiting the Overexpression of #ProInflammatoryCytokines
Kyle J. Norton
Carrots may have a profound and positive effect in reduced risk, progression, and treatment of inflammatory-related diseases, some scientists suggested.
The results of the studies were conducted by a number of best institutes including the National Institute of Nutrition, Jamai Osmania, and published in online medical literature.
Inflammation is a natural response of the immune system to protect our body against foreign induction of infection to the site of injury or damage.
However, overexpression of proinflammatory cytokines is also associated to induce local cell death and the formation of local scars.
Carrot, a root vegetable with orange color is a sub-spice of Daucus carota, belongings to the family Apiaceae, native to Asia and Europe.
In the investigation of the function of adipose tissue in the induction of various metabolic diseases including insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) involved initiation of inflammatory development, researchers at the National Institute of Nutrition, Jamai Osmania launched a study to examine the effect of carrot intake and inflammatory status in male weanling Wistar rats.
The tested group of rats were divided into four groups and fed either a control or high fructose diet of AIN-93G composition with or without carrot juice ingestion for an 8-week period.
AIN-93G was the formulation published by the American Institute of Nutrition (AIN) committee in 1993 improving the laboratory standard, with an aim to accommodate the increased nutritional demands of rat or mouse growth.
At the end of the experiment, researchers indicated that
* Carrot juice displays an insignificant effect in adiposity and cell size of the visceral fat depot as well as the retroperitoneal white adipose tissue (RPWAT).
The role of white adipose tissue (WAT) is to store excess fat for future use as a source of energy.
* In a high fructose diet, the application of carrot juice exerts a strong activity in inhibited elevation of plasma free fatty acid (FFA), macrophage chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP1) (P ≤ 0.01), and high sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP) (P ≤ 0.05) levels.
Macrophages chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1/CCL2) is a chemokine with function in regulated migration and infiltration of macrophages, the mobile white blood cells.
Levels of highly sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP) are associated with the inflammation of blood-vessel walls.
Further analysis suggested that carrot juice decreased overexpression of free cholesterol and immune response through its antioxidant in inhibited the elevation of ROS in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
In other words, carrot juice activated the production of anti-inflammatory factors in reduced over-expression of inflammatory cytokines in facilitated onset and progression of inflammatory-related diseases, including insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Moreover, in the additional differentiation of the effect of root vegetables in Immune-inflammatory signaling and metabolic effects, researchers at the joint study led by the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada conducted a study to assess the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of purple carrot and potato-derived anthocyanins and the molecular mechanisms to ameliorate cellular inflammation in a mono- and co-culture cell models.
In vitro gastrointestinal model, the application of bioaccessibility of 44.62 and 71.8% for anthocyanins of purple carrot and potato demonstrated strong activity in the inhibition of cellular inflammation in Caco-2 cells.
According to the assay, the effectiveness of anthocyanins injection was found to transport across a transmembrane cell model.
The inhibition of anthocyanins during the transportation also reduced the expression of pro-inflammatory factors of IL-8 and TNF-α secretion and expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines by blocking NF-κB, and MAPK, the pro-inflammatory proteins in mediated inflammatory cellular signaling cascades.
Interleukin 8 is a chemokine produced by macrophages and other cell types in initiated production of inflammatory expression.
Tumor necrosis factor is a cell signaling protein (cytokine) involved in systemic inflammation in acute phase infection of tissue injury and damage.
Dr. Zhang H, the lead scientist after taking into account other co and confounders said, "Anthocyanins from purple carrots and potatoes possess a promising anti-inflammatory effect in the model gut system" and "They (Anthocyanins) can be absorbed and act differently but are in general beneficial for inflammation-mediated diseases".
Taken together, carrot juice containing a high amount of anthocyanins may be considered a functional food in preventing the onset of inflammatory-related diseases.

Nitrate-Rich #BeetrootJuices Not Only Improve Vascular Function ButAlso and Permanently Prevent tjhe Risk of #HeartDisease
Kyle J. Norton
Intake of nitrate-rich beetroot juice may have a substantial and profound effect in improved vascular function, thus reducing the risk of heart disease.
Beet, best known as the beetroot or garden beet is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall, belonging to the amaranth family.
Vascular function is bundled vascular system with function in blood circulation.
Abnormal vascular function is considered one of the risk factors in the development of heart disease.
A total of 69 subjects were recruited in this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel study to examine the change in vascular function induced by intake of Nitrate-Rich Beetroot Juice, determined with the use of ultrasound flow-mediated dilatation (FMD).
The flow-mediated dilation (FMD).test, an ultrasound technique performed only by a skilled sonographer is a noninvasive assessment of vascular endothelial function through experts understanding of the physiology, analysis, and interpretation of this measurement
Intake of nitrate-rich beetroot juice displayed a significant increase in the FMD response of 1.1% compared to the placebo group of a decrease of 0.3%
Nitrate-rich beetroot juice group also demonstrated a small improvement in stiffness measured by Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity and showed a trend of continuous improvement compared to the placebo.
Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity is a test to measure stiffness of the largest artery in the body, Increased stiffness will result in reduced mobility in related regions.
The result of aortic pulse wave velocity measurement is said to have the ability to identify people in their 20s who are at increased risk for the development of heart disease, stroke, and dementia.
Administration of nitrate-rich beetroot juice showed a strong reduction of 7.6% of platelet-monocyte aggregates compared to an increase of 10.1% in placebo. This finding indicated that nitrate-rich beetroot juice intake had a substantial effect in decreasing the risk of acute myocardial infarction.
Platelet–monocyte aggregates are a novel index with platelet activation and a maker of early onset of acute myocardial infarction.
Furthermore, intake of nitrate-rich beetroot juice group expressed an exceptional improvement of vascular function in reduced P-selectin expression in activated platelet aggression
P-selectin is a cell adhesion molecule (CAM) with the function of mediating the interaction of activated endothelial cells or platelets.
Additionally, the application of the juice also improved the nonpathogenic, commensal bacteria present in the healthy human salivary glands measured by the salivary microbiome compared to the placebo group.
Interestingly, intake of the nitrate-rich beetroot juice also responded to the change of 78 bacterial taxa out of thousands harbored in the human gut.
The proportions of Rothia mucilaginosa tended to increase in the nitrate-rich beetroot juice group, compared to Neisseria flavescens (P < 0.01) increased in the placebo group.
Rothia mucilaginosa, is considered part of the normal microflora of the human mouth and the upper respiratory tract.
Neisseria flavescens is an uncommon pathogen of human infection, pneumonia, and empyema
There were no adverse effects of dietary nitrate were detected throughout the experiment.
The findings suggested that intake of nitrate-rich beetroot juice daily may have a sustainable effect in improving vascular function, thus reducing the risk of heart disease.

Intake of Coffee Daily and Regularly Is Associated with a Reduced Risk of #Alzheimer’s disease, Scientists Say
Kyle J. Norton
Coffee intake may have a positive implication in reduced risk of early onset of Alzheimer’s disease, a respectable joint study suggested.
Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.
Alzheimer’s disease is a generalized and progressive neurodegenerative disease due to aging.
In a rat model for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) induced by phosphoprotein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), eicosanoyl-5-hydroxytryptamide (EHT), researchers showed that components found in coffee exhibited a protective effect against AD, through inhibited expression of the I2(PP2A), or SET protein involved multiple cellular processes in the brains.
More importantly, oral administration of the supplement for 12 months showed a strongly attenuated all the defects of cognitive impairment, including tau hyperphosphorylation, and elevated levels of cytoplasmic amyloid-β protein caused by phosphoprotein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) injection.
Dr. Basurto-Islas G, the lead author in the joint study said, ” possibility that EHT may make a substantial contribution to the apparent neuroprotective benefits associated with coffee consumption as evidenced by numerous epidemiologic studies indicating that coffee drinkers have substantially lowered risk of developing AD”.
Furthermore, Dr. Wierzejska R in the evaluated effects of caffeine coffee in dietary factors which might prolong mental agility, said, ” moderate coffee consumption in fact has a lower the risk for common neurodegenerative conditions, i.e. Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases” and “Possibly, in the future experts will recommend drinking coffee not only to satisfy individual taste preferences but also to decrease age-related mental deterioration.”.
Others, in the concerns of the high consumption of coffee effect on an individual’s health through evaluating database of online medical literature, researchers found that coffee-drinking habits, and/or the quantity of coffee consumption, have a significantly reduced risk of dementia/AD, and other chronic diseases, but the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood when comparing coffee drinkers with a non-drinker.
Taking together, regular drinking of caffeine coffee in a moderated amount daily may have a positive effect in attenuating the risk and progression of Alzheimer’s disease and caffeine may be considered as a novel therapy for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
