Scientists may have a pungent spice that processes the potential to increase levels of testosterone deficiency, particularly in the elderly with no side effects according to studies.
Testosterone is a steroid hormone found in humans made mostly from the testicles in men and a small amount in women's ovaries.
According to epidemiological studies, treatment for hypogonadism is on the rise, particularly in the population due to naturally reduced production of levels of testosterone other than normal aging.
Testosterone production starts to produce significantly during puberty and dip after age 30.
In males, the early onset of reduced production of levels of testosterone is associated with a highly prevalent burden of comorbid medical conditions and polypharmacy complicates compared to those of normal aging,
Also, low levels of testosterone in males are associated with the early onset of metabolic syndrome in the induction of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
Conventional medicine used for the treatment in this population is found to be a unique challenge to clinicians.
Apart from normal aging, low levels of testosterone are found to induce symptoms of decreased sex drive, low energy, weight gain, the risk of depression, moodiness, loss of hair, and thinner bones.
If you are experiencing some of the above symptoms, you may have low levels of testosterone. Please make sure you check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.
Dr. Giagulli VA, in examining the complications of testosterone in men wrote, "Testosterone deficiency syndrome (TDS) induces several negative effects that generally involve different organs such as testis, bone, skeletal muscle, and heart, leading to a reduction in testis function, causing osteoporosis, strongly reducing muscle mass, decreasing exercise capacity and strength and facilitating heart failure".
And, " Approximately 25% of patients affected by chronic heart failure (CHF) is characterized by plasma Testosterone (T) levels below normal ranges also related to disease progression".
These results clearly suggested apart from normal aging, males with testosterone deficiency are associated with complications of many ailments.
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.
The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.
Scientists on finding a natural compound that processes a function in enhancing and protecting primary sex hormone in males examined the effects of ginger activity in enhancing testosterone production in males.
\
By searching the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases for English language articles (full texts or abstracts) from November 1991 through August 2018 using the keywords "ginger" and "Zingiber officinale" versus "testosterone" linking the effects of ginger on testosterone researchers found that ginger supplementation, particularly in oxidative stress conditions, enhances testosterone production in males.
The mechanisms by which this occurs mainly by enhancing luteinizing hormone (LH) production in stimulating the Leydig cell production of testosterone, increasing the level of cholesterol in synthesizing male sex steroid, testosterone (T), by reducing oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in the testes.
Furthermore, the application of ginger also inhibited the expression of free radicals by promoting the activity of the antioxidant enzymes.
Ginger also normalized the blood glucose by increasing blood flow to the testes.
Moreover, ginger improved the production of testosterone by increasing testicular weight and recycling testosterone receptors.
The finding strongly supports the use of ginger in enhanced testosterone production for the treatment of diseases associated with testosterone deficiency.
In order to reveal more information about ginger in the production of testosterone by examing the
ginger effects on multiple animal models, including 60adult male Sprague Dawley rats divided into * Group A served as normal control,
* Group B received 0.3% lead acetate in drinking water,
*Group C and Group D received supplementary 0.5 and 1 gm/Kg body weight of ginger respectively along with lead acetate in drinking water.
During the experiments, co-administration with different doses of ginger showed a significant rise in the testosterone levels in of teste, compared to the lead-treated group.
Interestingly, ginger application at different doses showed no significant change in LH levels, compared to the rise in the previous ginger treatment,
These results strongly suggested there must be other compounds from ginger that exhibit the increased levels of LH that are not mentioned in both studies.
Taken altogether, ginger may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and combined with primary medicine for the treatment of diseases associated with testosterone deficiency.

Long-Term Use of #ConventionalDrugs Show to Increase the Risk of #Aging Induced CognitiveDysfunction(Dementia and Dementia Like Symptoms), Researchers Reveal
Kyle J. Norton
About 5-8% of all people over the age of 65 have some form of dementia, and this number doubles every 5 years.
Dementia is the loss of mental and physical ability that is severe enough to interfere with people's daily life and Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia in the aging population.
The Western diet contains a high amount of saturated and trans fat, artificial ingredients with fewer fruits and vegetables that can lead to dementia and other kinds of diseases
Types of medication Can Cause Dementia or Dementia Like Symptoms
As aging progress, the accumulation of toxins from certain medication used to treat certain diseases, such as antidepressants, sedatives, cardiovascular drugs, and anti-anxiety medications may induce an increased risk of cognitive dysfunction, leading to dementia and dementia-like symptoms(1).
1. Antidepressants (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, antipsychotics, and benzodiazepines)
An Antidepressant is a psychiatric medication used to treat mood disorders, such as major depression and dysthymia, and anxiety disorders.
In a study conducted by Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center of a total of 230 participants followed for a mean of 3.7 years with the use of persistency index (PI) to calculate all antidepressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), antipsychotics (atypical and typical), and benzodiazepines as the proportion of observed time of medication exposure, researchers found that psychotropic medication used is associated with more rapid cognitive and functional decline in AD, expressed by symptoms scale.
Clinicians may tend to prescribe psychotropic medications to AD patients at risk of poorer outcomes, but one cannot rule out the possibility of poorer outcomes being caused by psychotropic medications(2)
2. Anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are pain relievers, used often to treat pain caused by overexpression of inflammatory cytokines, such as arthritis.
There was a weak association between any NSAIDs and the risk of cognitively impaired, no dementia (CIND)(3)
3. Cannabis
Cannabis has been used for the treatment of a number of conditions, including neuropathic pain, spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis, chemotherapy-induced nausea, etc,.
The study conducted by the University of Western Australia showed that chronic use of cannabis may impair intellectual abilities but data on this topic remain sparse and difficult to interpret.
There is evidence that some drugs contribute to the causal pathway that leads to the development of cognitive impairment but currently available data do not support the introduction of a separate diagnostic category of drug-induced dementia (such as alcohol-related dementia)(4).
4. Hallucinogens
Hallucinogens, psychedelic drugs, used primarily action to alter cognition and perception may cause distortion of sensory perception, and other psychic and somatic effects, including sweating, heart palpitations, blurring of vision, memory loss, trembling, and itching(5)
5. Corticosteroids
Corticosteroids are synthetic drugs closely resembling cortisol, a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands to assist the physiologic processes, including stress response, immune response, regulation of inflammation, carbohydrate metabolism, behavior, etc.
An excess can cause agitation and even dementia-like symptoms(6).
6. Fluoroquinolone antibiotics
Fluoroquinolone antibiotics is medication taken to treat a variety of infections.
However, the drugs are associated to exhibit delirium in elderly patients(7).
7. H2-receptor antagonists
H2-receptor antagonists are medicines taken to reduce the amount of acid in the stomach by blocking one important producer of histamine2. These drugs are associated to induce delirium in elderly patients(8).
8. Anticonvulsants
Anticonvulsants are types of medication used to treat epileptic seizure act on the brain through different mechanisms. Intake of anticonvulsants can precipitate drowsiness and difficulty thinking, some more common than others(9).

#Healthyfood #Strawberries Inhibits the Onset of #ChronicInflammatoryDiseases Through Theirs Antioxidant Activity, Researchers Say
Kyle J. Norton
Scientists may have found a whole fruit for the prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases, some studies suggested.
Inflammation is the natural and systematic immune response with an aim to protect our body against infectious stimuli associated with acute body damage and injury.
During the acute phase of infection, the immune white blood cells of the first line of defense signal the production of proinflammatory cytokines to the site of damage within minutes to protect against blood loss and infection.
However, overproduction of pro-inflammatory cytokine in the acute phase can cause damage to the nearby healthy cells, leading to improper healing of the formation of scars.
Chronic inflammation that lasts longer than 3 months is a result of immune system failure in killing off all the infectious pathogens in the acute phase of inflammation.
More precisely, chronic inflammation is characterized by the simultaneous destruction and repair of the tissue from the inflammatory process as the result of the progressive change in the cells presented at the site of inflammation.
Some researchers suggested that chronic inflammation can also be caused by the immune system attacking the bodily healthy tissue by mistaking them as foreign pathogens and long-term exposure to a low level of particular irritant or foreign materials such as substances or industrial chemicals, that can not be broken down by the body systems.
Strawberry is a genius of Fragaria × ananassa and belongs to the family Rosaceae.
The fruits have been grown all over the world with a suitable climate for commercial profits and for health benefits.
The major chemical compounds of strawberries include anthocyanin and ellagitannins and p-Hydroxybenzoic acid, p-coumaric acid, ellagic acid, cyanidin-3-glucoside, pelargonidin-3-glucoside, kaempferol, quercetin, and myricetin.
In reaffirming the epidemiological evidence supporting the inverse associations between fruit and vegetable intake and the incidence of chronic inflammatory disease, researchers at the Pure Encapsulations, Inc conducted an investigation to examine the effect of dietary botanicals with salient health benefits.
In line with molecular pharmacology research, the tested berries including strawberries exerted a significant anti-inflammatory activity through the expression of the phenolic constituents and antioxidants.
Berry and spinach extracts in vitro exhibited the greatest antioxidant activity.
In a dose-dependent manner, a proprietary mixture of cranberry, strawberry, and blueberry extracts inhibited the inhibitor of κB kinase β, a central node in inflammatory signal transduction.
A proprietary mixture of blueberry, strawberry, and spinach extracts inhibited prolyl endopeptidase, a regulator of neuroinflammatory and an emerging therapeutic target in neurology and psychiatry.
After taking into account co and confounders, Dr. Heim KC, the lead scientist said, "Specific molecular targets of blended dietary plants with potential relevance to inflammation and neurological health".
Furthermore, in the study to reconfirm the anti-inflammatory efficacy of strawberries, researchers at the University of California conducted a test to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and blood glucose (BG)-regulating the capacity of strawberries in a mouse model of diet-induced obesity.
A total of thirty-six male C57BL/6J mice included in the examination were randomly divided into four groups (nine mice per group). Mice were fed a low-fat diet (LF, 13 % fat), the LF supplemented with 2·6 % freeze-dried strawberry powder (LFSB), a high-fat diet (HF, 44 % fat) or the HF supplemented with 2·6 % strawberry powder (HFSB).
Before the injection of strawberry extract, the mice group fed with HF increased non-fasted BG, insulin, and proinflammatory cytokines and decreased the expression of anti-inflammatory factors.
Application of in HF diet group showed a strong effect in lowering the BG concentrations compared to the non-supplemented mice (11·37 mmol/l; P = 0·0022). The BG values were found to decrease by approximately 6·5 % in the supplemented mice.
Additionally, SB lowered plasma C-reactive protein used to test for inflammation in the LFSB group compared to the other three groups.
These results once again supported a promising role for dietary strawberries in reducing the risks associated with obesity and diabetes and regulating the levels of inflammatory markers in non-obese individuals.
Taken together, strawberries may be considered a functional fruit for the prevention of chronic inflammatory diseases and adjunct therapy combined with conventional medicine for the treatment of chronic inflammation.

#Epoxypseudoisoeugenol-2-methyl butyrate (EPB) Found in #Herbal #Anise Reduces the Risk of #BreastCancer through the Inhibition of Cell Growth, Cell Cycle Progression, and Apoptosis
Kyle J. Norton
The ability to cure breast cancer with a natural plant without inducing adverse effects is the dream that many scientists would hope to see in their lifetime. However, as of today, hope is still a long way from reality.
Some studies suggested that herbal Anise may process a significant effect in the reduction of risk and treatment of breast cancer with no side effects.
Breast cancer is a medical and chronic condition characterized by abnormal cell growth in the breast tissues. Mose cases of breast cancer begin with the alternation of DNA in the cells in the inner lining of the breast. After colonizing the entire breast in the adance stage, malignant cancers can travel a distance away to infect other healthy cells and tissue.
The exact causes of breast cancer are unknown. researchers have tried hard but still could not answer the question, of why people with the same healthy condition and genetic similarity in the same family, are susceptible to the onset of the disease, while other female siblings do not.
Some researchers suggested the risk factors associated with breast cancer should be divided into preventable and unpreventable.
The preventable risk factors are conditions that can be changed through diet and lifestyle and choice, such as physical inactivity, obesity or overweight, poor diet, chest radiation, excessive alcohol drinking, and use of hormone therapy.
Unpreventable risk factors are conditions that cannot be changed including genetic opposition, age, dense breast tissue, early menstruation, late menopause, race, and gender.
However, regardless of preventable and unpreventable risk factors associated with the onset of the disease, the risk of breast cancer is lower in women who follow a long-term healthy diet and lifestyle.
According to the National Breast cancer foundation, of all women with breast cancer, 60-70% of them have no connection to these risk factors at all, and some women with these risk factors will never develop cancer.
In 2010, over 250,000 new cases of breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. alone and the risk of getting invasive breast cancer during the lifetime of a woman is 1/8.
Dr. Ji Hyun Kim, the lead author in the study led by the National Cancer Center, "Dietary Factors and Female Breast Cancer Risk: A Prospective Cohort Study", said, "Grilled meat and high-cholesterol food intake and irregular eating habits may be associated with a higher risk of breast cancer".
These results indicated women who follow the Western diet with high in saturated and trans fat, red meats, and processed foods are associated with a substantially increased risk of breast cancer compared to women, following the traditional diet pattern.
Anise is a flowering plant of the species of Pimpinella anisum, genus Pimpinella, belonging to the family Apiaceae native to Egypt and the Mediterranean region.
The popular herb has been used in traditional herbal medicine as a fragrance in soaps, oils, and mouth fresheners and stomachic, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic, carminative, digestive, expectorant, stimulant, and tonic agent to treat head-lice and mites, increase blood pressure, prevent the formation of gas in the gastrointestinal tract and menstrual cramps, etc.
Breast cancer (malignant breast neoplasm) is cancer that starts in the tissues of the breast either from the inner lining of milk ducts (Ductal carcinoma) or the lobules (Lobular carcinoma) that supply the ducts with milk. there are also rare cases that breast cancer starts in other areas of the breast.
Ingredients
Besides the main ingredient Anethole, it also contains, D-pinene, I-phellandrene, Alpha-terpineol, Safrol, Methyl chavicol, Resin, Shikimic acid, etc.
In the concerns that genomic instability, accumulative mutations, and subsequent changes in intracellular signaling cascades may influence the development of human breast cancers, researchers at The University of Mississippi launched an investigation of the transcriptional activity of NF-kappaB measured by cell-based reporter gene assay
On epoxypseudoisoeugenol-2-methyl butyrate (EPB), a phenylpropanoid isolated from the herbal Anise exerts a significant effect in the inhibition of cell growth, cell cycle progression, and apoptosis in MCF-7 (estrogen-dependent) and BT-549 (estrogen-independent) breast cancer cells, through de-activating the NF-kappaB which plays an important role in the control of transcription of DNA, cytokine production and cell survival.
EPB was also found to block the proliferation of both MCF-7 and BT-549 cells in a concentration- and time-dependent manner.
Further analysis suggested that EPB induced apoptosis by cell cycle arrest in G(1)/G(0) phase in both MCF-7 and BT 549 cells.
Dr.Ma G, the lead scientist in the final report said, "In vitro, results indicated that EPB has potential for use against both hormone-dependent and hormone-independent breast cancers and its effects seem to be mediated by inhibiting the NF-kappaB activity".
In an attempt to find food components potentially acting as selective estrogen receptor modulators SERMs for the treatment of breast cancer with no side effects, the University of Athens submitted four plant aqueous extracts derived from Greek flora (Sideritis Euboea, Sideritis clandestine, Matricaria chamomilla, and Pimpinella anisum) in a series of in vitro biological assays to examine their SERM profile.
All plant extracts including Anise at a concentration range of 10-100 microg/mL demonstrated a potency as of SERMs in stimulating osteoblastic cell differentiation and antiestrogenic effect on breast cancer cells without proliferative effects on cervical adenocarcinoma cells.
Additionally, the antiestrogenic effect of the plant extracts was reduced under the presence of estradiol on MCF-7 cells, which suggests the extracts may process a potential estrogen receptor-related mechanism.
Taken altogether, herbal Anise may be considered a functional food for the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with conventional medicine for the treatment of breast cancer, pending the further confirmation of a large sample size and multi-center studies.

#Ginger Exhibits Anti #ColonCancer Activity by Regulating Cell Cycle Division and Ibducing Cell Apoptosis, Researchers Suggest
Kyle J. Norton
Ginger may process certain bioactive compounds with a function to protect our body against the onset of colon cancer, some scientists found.
Colon cancer is a medical condition characterized by cell growth irregularly due to the alternation of DNA.
Most cases of primary colon cancer start in the cell on the surface of the inner lining of the colon. At this stage, most patients do not experience any symptoms or discomfort.
However, at the advanced stage, the cancerous cells in the colon not only can travel a distance far away to infect other healthy tissue and organ but also cause localized severe pain and symptoms as the proliferation of cancer has suppressed the nearby nerve cells and tissue.
Researchers do not know the exact causes of the disease. But they do know the history of polyps, ethnicity, high-fat diet, and low fiber, an increase in age, the long-term infection of colon diseases are some of the prevalent risk factors associated with the onset and progression of colon cancer, according to epidemiological studies.
Out of that group of risk factors, the increase in age has been under intensified studies by many scientists.
According to the statistic, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the US. The median age at diagnosis for colon cancer is 68 in men and 72 in women.
Early diagnosis of colon cancer can increase the 5 years of survival rate. Truly, in the 39% of colon cancer diagnosed at the localized-stage disease, the five and ten years survival rate is 90%.
Dr. Elmer E. van Eeghen, the lead scientist in the cancer program at the Zaans Medisch Centrum, the concerns about the increase in age that impacts the development of colon cancer, launched an investigation on the influence of age and comorbidity on survival and cause of death in a non-selected population.
In the study "Impact of age and comorbidity on survival in colorectal cancer" wrote, "Patients with colorectal cancer are often excluded from clinical trials based on age or a poor performance score" and " In colon cancer patient age and comorbidity predict survival. This represents possible bias or a reduced survival benefit of treatment, and is an indication that colon cancer is not the prognosis-defining illness in the majority of patients".
These results furtherly confirm the prognosis of colon cancer in the aging population. However, most aging populations do not develop colon cancer.
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.
The pungent kitchen spice has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.
With an aim to find a natural ingredient without side effects for the treatment of colon cancer, researchers at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, launch an investigation to examine the anti-tumor and anti-inflammation properties of the crude ginger extract against many types of cancer, including colorectal cancer.
The cells used in the experiment were divided into 4 groups: the first group represents HT29 cells without treatment, the second and third groups were cells treated singly with either ginger or Gelam honey, respectively, and the last group represents cells treated with ginger and Gelam honey combined.
During the experiment, researchers showed that
* Ginger displays a significant effect in the inhibition of colon cancer cells by blocking the communication of a signal from a receptor on the surface of the cell to the DNA in the nucleus of the cell and regulating the cell cycle division.
* Ginger the concentration of the IC50 of 5.2 mg/m simulated the early apoptosis by enhancing the functional proteins associated with the execution of cancer cells and
* Decreasing the expression of proteins associated with cancer cells spreading.
Further differentiation of the antiproliferative effects of ginger efficacy in enhancing the anti-cancer effects of 5-FU (5-fluorouracil) against a colorectal cancer cell line, HCT 116. researchers showed that ginger (IC50 of 3mg/mL) is more potent than Gelam honey (IC50 of 75 mg/mL) in inhibiting the growth of HCT 116 cells.
These results once against the suggested ginger extract could potentially enhance the chemotherapeutic effect of 5-FU against colorectal cancer.
Additionally, ginger in the study of cells was divided into 4 groups: the first group represents HT29 cells without treatment, the second and third groups were cells treated singly with either ginger or Gelam honey, respectively, and the last group represents cells treated with ginger and Gelam honey combined researcher found that
Taken together, the ginger extract used alone or combined with honey might process significant and profound effects in reducing the risk of colon cancer and combined with primary therapy for the treatment of colon cancer.

#Eggplant Inhibits the Mutation of Tumor Suppressor Genes Associated with the Onset of #Melanoma, Scientists Show
Kyle J. Norton
Eggplant may have a potential and substantial effect in reducing risk and treating melanoma, some scientists suggested.
Melanoma is a type of skin cancer characterized by irregular cell growth in the pigment-containing cell.
At the later stage, the cancerous cell may invade other healthy tissues and organs a distance away from the original site.
the exact causes of Melanoma are unknown. However, some researchers suggested that it is likely caused by a combination of factors.
Truly, certain risk factors, such as environmental and genetic factors, and exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun are associated with an increased risk of the disease.
According to statistics, approximately 87,110 new cases of invasive melanoma were diagnosed in the U.S. in 2017.
The American Cancer Association single out mutation of tumor suppressor genes such as CDKN2A and CDK4 that prevent them from doing their normal job of controlling cell growth as one of the major causes of melanoma.
If you experience some of the symptoms of sores that do not heal. Pigment, spreading redness or swelling, persistent itchiness, tenderness or pain,.... and bleeding from an existing mole. Please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.
The 5 years survival rate of early diagnosis of Melanoma is about 97% and The 10-year survival is around 95%.
Eggplant is a species of S. melongena with deep purple color, belongings to the family Solanaceae and native to India, cultivated in southern and eastern Asia since prehistory.
In the evaluation of the effect of glycoalkaloids, the nitrogen-containing secondary plant metabolites found in numerous Solanaceous plants including eggplants in numbers of cancer cell lines, researchers showed that the isolated phytochemicals express a significant effect of inhibition of the process of the early stage of various types of cancer occurrence through inducing cancer cells apoptosis.
Further analysis, glycoalkaloids efficacy was attributed to the derived phytochemical compound solamargine inactivation of antioxidant activity against the formation of skin cancer through the expression of several biomarkers and signaling pathways.
In primary melanoma cell lines WM239 and WM115, the application of solamargine with half inhibitory concentration IC50 demonstrated a profound effect of inhibiting the growth of metastatic cancer cells and initiated apoptosis, through overexpression of lysosomal membrane permeabilization induced by leaky lysosomes during cell death, detected by lysosomalgalectin puncta assay, without causing damage to normal and benign skin cells, namely, WM35.
Observation of the cellular necrosis also indicated that solamargine's anti-skin cancer effect was confirmed by the overexpression of cathepsin B which is considered a biomarker of malignant lesions and various cancers by triggering extrinsic mitochondrial death pathway function in activated cellular apoptosis through the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria during the early stages of apoptosis and apoptotic tumor necrosis factor receptor-1(TNFR1).
Moreover, injection of the derivative solamargine also disrupted the intrinsic apoptosis pathway
through reduced expression of hILP/XIAP, an inhibitor of apoptotic cell death by blocking tumor cell proliferation.
Additional differentiation also suggested that the derivative solamargine also blocked the
expression of TNF receptors associated with tumor proliferation, survival, and differentiation to increase expression of proteins Bcl-xL, and Bcl2 that regulate anti-apoptosis, and anti-cell cycle arrest.
Unlike other phytochemicals such as green tea EGCG inhibited apoptosis through both intrinsic and extrinsic apoptosis pathways, eggplant derivative solamargine selectively triggered melanoma cancer cell death through only death receptors.
After taking account of other confounders, Dr, Sana S. said, " Solamargine showed high efficacy in vitro particularly against the vertical growth phase (forming a true tumor) melanoma cells".
Taken together, eggplant with abundant glycoalkaloids may be considered as a functional food to ameliorate the risk, progression, and treatment of melanoma. Intake of eggplant supplements should be taken with special care and only prescribed by experts.
However, additional data collection on large example size and multi-center studies performed with human consumption of the eggplant whole food during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of the night shape veggie's anti-cancer possibilities.

#GreenTea's Polyphenols (GTPs) Inhibits UVB and Angiogenetic Effect Associated with the Onset of #SkinCancer, Scientists Say
Kyle J. Norton
Green tea may have a strong and positive effect in reducing the risk and treatment of skin cancer, some scientists suggested.
Skin cancer is a medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the issues of the skin.
At the later stage, the cancerous cell may travel a distance away to invade other healthy tissues and organs.
According to statistic, approximately, 87,110 new cases of invasive melanoma are diagnosed in the U.S. every year.
The exact causes of skin cancer are unknown. Researchers believed that there are a set of factors that can have a substantial effect to initiate the onset of skin cancer.
Truly, according to the studies, people who have fair skin, regardless of skin color, a history of sunburns, excessive sun exposure, including occupations that required to work outside during Summar months, moles, and a family history of skin cancer. and previous and personal history of skin cancer is at an increased risk of skin cancer or recurrence of skin cancer.
The American Institute for Cancer Research, certain lifestyle habits can increase the risk of skin cancer, such as drinking too much coffee, excessive alcohol drinking, and long-term intake of certain medications in suppressing the immune system.
Green tea a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
The evaluation of the green tea effect in overexposure to environmental solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation (290-400 nm) which has been found to increase the risk of the development of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers in mice model showed that oral administration of green tea polyphenols (GTPs) in drinking water or the topical application of EGCG prevents UVB-induced skin tumor development in tested subjects.
Particularly, (-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), the major and most photoprotective polyphenolic component of green tea also exhibited a protective activity against UV in the induction of skin cancer, through induction of immunoregulatory cytokine interleukin (IL) 12 in differentiation of naive T cells into Th1 cells and acted as T cell-stimulating factor in stimulate the growth and function of T cells.
Moreover, interleukin (IL) 12 also demonstrated a significant effect as an antagonist against immunosuppression induced by solar/ultraviolet (UV) radiation by restoring immune responses and also stimulating DNA repair.
Further analysis also indicated that green tea (-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) also inhibited UV in the induction of skin tumors; the angiogenetic effect in the stimulated production of new blood vessels to provide nutrients and oxygen for cancer cells proliferation and survival and initiated cytotoxic T lymphocyte cells in induced cancer and infectious and damaged cells apoptosis.
Interestingly, an additional study of green tea polyphenols (GTPs) in the prevention of UVB irradiated (80 mJ/cm(2)) 3 times each week for 24 wk in induced skin cancer in mice divided into group consumed water and a group fed with water containing 2 g/L GTPs, showed that group treated with GTPs displayed a significantly reduced UVB-induced tumor incidence by 35%, tumor multiplicity by 63%, and tumor growth by 55% in compared to the non-treatment group.
The group treated with GTPs+UVB also demonstrated a reduced expression of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMP)-2 and MMP-9, which are activators associated with progression from benign to advanced cancer and enhanced expression of specific endogenous tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs), tissues inhibitor of MMP in skin tumors in compared to mice treated with UVB alone.
Furthermore, the GTPs+UVB group also reduced expressions of CD31 and vascular endothelial growth factor, inactivated the development of new blood vessels to nourish skin tumor cells proliferation and site expansion, and inhibited expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen, a key factor in DNA replication and cell cycle regulation in skin cancer in compared to UVB group.
More importantly, mice treated with the GTPs+UVB group also showed more cytotoxic CD8(+) T cells in the tumors compared to the UVB group by exhibiting greater activation of caspase-3 expression in induced apoptosis of the tumor cells.
The information findings suggested a potential and therapeutic effect of green tea and its bioactive polyphenols (GTPs) in attenuating the risk, progression, and treatment of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.
