Yoga may be used as an integrated form of exercise in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a randomized controlled study suggested.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)) is the third leading cause of death in the United States, inducing symptoms of breathlessness and fatigue and making physical activity more challenging.
COPD is a chronic condition caused by lung inflammation that obstructs the airflow from the lungs.
The most common symptoms of COPD are breathing difficulty, cough, mucus (sputum) production,.... and wheezing.
According to the statistic, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects about 32 million persons in the United States.
Conventional treatment of COPD focuses on the management to improve patients' functional status and quality of life by preserving remained lung function, according to Medscape
Yoga is the ancient practice for harmonized external and internal body well-being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement,.... and gesture.....
The technique is well-known to people in the Western world and some parts of Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.
In a randomized trial with two study arms (yoga and control) a total of 81 coal miners enrolled, ranging from 36 to 60 years with stage II and III stable COPD, assigned either to conventional treatment or a combination of conventional care with yoga program for 12 weeks, after review the returned questionnaire, researchers found that
* Compared to other groups, the yoga group displays strong improvements in COPD on all scales.
*Also, Compared to the conventional treatment group, the yoga group expresses significantly positive effects in both physical and mental health status.
Dr. Ranjita R, the led researcher said, "Yoga seems to be a safe, feasible, and effective treatment for patients with COPD".
More profoundly, in the evaluated 43 patients with symptomatic, moderate-to-severe COPD assigned to the 12 weeks of pranayama plus education versus education alone taught by 2 yoga professionals, researchers indicated the following results
* Yoga group shows a strong performance in the 6-min walk distance (6MWD), compared to education the only group.
* Yoga also displays small improvements in inspiratory capacity and air trapping.
Researchers, after adjusting to other risk factors said, "Both groups had significant improvements in various measures of symptoms, but no overall differences in respiratory system impedance or markers of oxidative stress or systemic inflammation".
Truly, yoga posture and breathing practices improve blood circulation to the lung and muscle of the organ function, thus increasing the airflow to the lung in the absorption of volumes of oxygen for the body's needs.
With the additional supply of oxygen to the blood, patients with COPD not only can increase walking distance but also can perform other physical activities. Thus, enhancing the quality of life, including mental health.
In other words, yoga intervention significantly enhances inspiratory capacity and air trapping and improves the central nervous system in the regulation of certain hormones which have the functions in the stimulation of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory expressions.
The efficacy of yoga mentioned above is also supported by the evaluated effects of yoga training on the quality of life (QOL) and the parameters of lung function in patients with COPD of 33 patients with COPD satisfied with the study criteria selected, after attending yoga exercises including breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga postures for 1 hour, thrice a week for 6 weeks by certified yoga therapists.
Compared to conventional treatment
* Yoga intervention showed an impressive improvement in vital capacity (95% CI 2.53-7.65), maximal inspiratory pressure, and maximal expiratory pressure, observed for the St. George Respiratory Questionnaire.
* The intervention also expressed short-term benefits in enhancing QOL and lung function
Taking it all together, yoga may be used as a secondary form of exercise combined with standard therapy for ameliorated symptoms and treatment for COPD patients.

#Blacktea Extract (BTE) Process an Anti Ulcer Activity by Restorating the Antioxidants of Serum GSH Level., Researchers Reveal
Kyle J. Norton
Black and green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect on the prevention of dyspepsia, some scientists suggested.
Dyspepsia is a digestive condition of ingestion.
The exact causes of dyspepsia are unknown. However, researchers suggested that patients with the onset of a stomach ulcer or acid reflux disease are most susceptible to the condition.
Certain medication such as aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antibiotics (metronidazole, macrolides), and diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome is associated with an increased risk of dyspepsia.
Some researchers also suggested that unhealthy choices of lifestyle such as smoking, and excessive alcohol drinking also have a strong impact on the onset of the disease.
Dr. Umapati C. Baragi, the lead scientist in the study of diet and lifestyle in the etiopathogenesis of Urdhwaga Amlapitta (non-ulcer dyspepsia) said, "Dietary patterns, lifestyle choices, and physical activities play an important role in the etiopathogenesis of Urdhwaga Amlapitta, and it is important for patients to have access to diet and lifestyle modifications. Currently, research in this area is minimal"
Symptoms of dyspepsia include pain in the chest, stomach burning pain, bloating, heartburn, upset stomach,.... digestive discomforts.
If you experience the above symptoms, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.
Black tea is a beverage with more oxidization, compared to other teas such as oolong, green, and white teas.
In the investigation of aqueous extract (BTE) and thearubigins isolated from green tea effects in sildenafil-induced delay in gastric emptying (GE) and small intestinal transit (SIT) in a total of 160 mice, randomly assigned to 20 groups with 8 in each group, treated by different or combination of doses of BTE, thearubigins (TRs), sildenafil (SLD), metoclopramide, L-NAME (hydrochloride) and black tea extract researchers found that pretreatment of certain doses of green tea aqueous extract (BTE) and thearubigins significantly reverse motility-delaying effects caused by the injection of sildenafil.
Further differentiation also indicated that additional injection of black tea at 3% and 4.5% increases the function of thearubigins (50 and 60 mg/kg) dose-dependently in promoted dyspepsia in mice compared to the insignificant effect of the combination of BTE at 6% and thearubigins 70 mg/kg.
Moreover, the combination of metoclopramide, a medicine used mainly for the treatment of ingestion in people with delayed stomach emptying, BTE 4.5%, thearubigins 60 or nω -Nitro-l-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride (l-NAME) with sildenafil (5 mg/kg) reversed its motility-delaying effects,
This improvement of dyspepsia was partially blocked by the application of l-NAME through reducing function nitric oxide and improving gastrointestinal smooth muscle mobility by observation of the pretreatment of l-NAME followed by application of BTE alone or combination of thearubigins 60, BTE + sildenafil, and thearubigins + sildenafil.
Dr. Murad HA, the lead author, after taking into account confounders said, "BTE 4.5% or TRs 60 mg/kg solution could be considered a reliever therapy for the sildenafil-induced dyspepsia".
Additional investigations the role of hot water extract of black tea [Camellia sinensis (L) in normalizing the changes in the intestinal transit and gastric emptying induced by various ulcerogenic agents in experimental rats found that application of black tea extract significantly promotes the intestinal transit and gastric emptying caused by glutathione (GSH) depleting agents, diethyl maleate (DEM) in decreased mucosal content in aid of digestion, indoacetamide (IDA) in reduced stomach acid secretion, gastritis, and mucus thickness on gastric transfer and N-ethyl maleimide (NEM) with function of in significantly reduced the mucosal SH levels and the lesions.
Oral administration of black tea extract (BTE) at 20 ml/kg of a 10% solution once a day for 7 days also expressed a significantly increased intestinal transit and gastric emptying similar to those of conventional succimer (60 mg/kg, i.g.), the standard sulfhydryl containing an antiulcer agent
through the restoration of antioxidants of serum GSH level.
However, such increase of intestinal transit induced by BTE was reversed both by N-omega-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) (25 mg/kg, i.p.) and N-omega-monomethyl-L-arginine (L-NMMA) (25 mg/kg, i.p.), in reduced levels of NO in the aided stomach in the production of gastric acid for digestive function.
Dr. Maity S, the lead author said, "Restoration of intestinal nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity was found to be associated with BTE treatment" and "These results provide evidence that nitric oxide may play a role in BTE-mediated movement of intestinal motility changes and gastric emptying induced by DEM, IDA, and NEM".
Taken together, black tea with plenty of phytochemicals may be considered a functional food in reducing the risk and treatment of dyspepsia.
However, intake of tea supplements should be taken with exceptional care to prevent acute liver toxicity.

#Beetroot Extract Combined with Chemo Drug #Doxorubicin (Adriamycin) Shows a Synergistic Cytotoxicityon Cancers, Scientists Reveal
Kyle J. Norton
Scientists may have found a vegetable that processes a potency in killing cancer cells before spreading, some studies suggested.
Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells grow and multiply in disordered and uncontrollable ways in our body.
At the advanced stage, the invasive cancer cell can travel a distance away from the original site to infect other healthy tissues and organs via lymph or/and blood.
According to the statistic provided by the UK Cancers Research, in 2012, an estimated 14.1 million new cases of cancer occurred worldwide.
Sadly, more than 4 in ten cancers occurring worldwide are in countries at a low or medium level of Human Development Index (HDI).
The Human Development Index (HDI) is a statistical composite index of life expectancy, education, and per capita income indicators, according to the definition.
In 2018, over 1,7 million new cases of cancer are diagnosed in the US, and approximately over 600,000 patients will die from the disease.
The four most common types of cancer, occurring worldwide are lung, female breast, bowel, and prostate cancer.
Early diagnosis as always is the best way to improve survival rate. Depending on the type of cancer, most cancers have a 100% 5 years survival rate, if they are diagnosed at the stage of 0 and 1.
Beet is best known as the beetroot or garden beet and belongs to the Amaranth family. It is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall.
In the study to reaffirm the effect of red beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) extract (B), approved by the Food and Drug Administration and European Union as red food color E162, in reducing multi-organ tumor formations in various animal models when administered in drinking water, researchers at the Howard University launched an investigation to examine whether long-term daily exposure to low doses of B through diet would be safe and sufficient to produce cancer chemopreventive effect in humans.
Compared to the conventional chemo drugs doxorubicin (D) with different concentrations of range from 0.29-290 μg/ml in several human cancer cell lines, researchers found that
* Application of Red beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) extract (B exerts a synergistic antiproliferative activity against pancreatic (PaCa), breast (MCF-7), and prostate (PC-3) tumor cells of human origin.
* Red beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) extract (B) is considered safe for human use with no known toxicity.
* Used combined with D demonstrates an overall positive reduction of the concentration of D with the same cytotoxicity profile in the three human cancer cells. In other words, the synergistic cytotoxicity was best when the B:D ratio of 1:5 was used in PaCa cells at IC50, IC75, and IC90 dose levels and in MCF-7 cells at an IC90 dose level.
These results suggested that red beetroot extract used combined with doxorubicin may process a potency in treating human cancers.
Additionally, in further testing of the anti-cancer effect of the red beetroot extract with the anticancer drug, doxorubicin (Adriamycin) in the androgen-independent human prostate cancer cells (PC-3) and in the well-established estrogen receptor-positive human breast cancer cells (MCF-7), researchers showed that
* Both doxorubicin and the beetroot extract exhibit a dose-dependent cytotoxic effect in the two tested cancer cell lines.
* The cytotoxicity of the beetroot extract is significantly lower, compared to doxorubicin. Application of beetroot continues to decrease the growth rate of the PC-3 cells (3.7% in 3 days vs. 12.5% in 7 days) when tested at the concentration of 29 µg/ml in compared to doxorubicin completely inhibited the growth of the PC-3 cells in three days at the same concentration.
These results indicated lesser effects of the beetroot extract in inducing cytotoxicity, compared to doxorubicin (8.6% vs. 100%, respectively, at 29 µg/ml concentration of each, three-day test period).
Further analysis of the results, researchers found that the anticancer activity may be attributed to its bioactive compound betanin, the major betacyanin constituent.
The findings suggested that beetroot and its extract with abundant phytochemicals may be considered a functional food used alone or combined with chemo drugs for the treatment of cancers without inducing any side effects.
However, further data collection on large example size and multi-center studies performed with human consumption of the beer root extract during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of its anti-cancer possibilities.

#FennelGel 3% Shows a Significant Effect in the Reduction of the Thickness of Facial Hair in Micrometer, Researchers Say
Kyle J. Norton
Fennel may have a therapeutic effect in reducing the risk of unwanted hair growth in women, some scientists suggested.
Hirsutism is an unwanted hair growth pattern in women.
The exact causes of Hirsutism are unknown. However, researchers do know certain risk factors are associated with the early onset of the disease, including women who have a persistent hormone imbalance, and are obese.
Certain medical conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, infertility, long-term, irregular period, abnormal menstrual conditions and cysts present in the ovaries, and Cushing's syndrome are also considered the prevalent risk factors of Hirsutism.
Some women with the syndrome may experience symptoms of deepening voice, persistent acne on the facial skin, decreased breast size, increased muscle mass, and particularly, unwanted hair growth.
If you have some of the above symptoms, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.
In most cases, Hirsutism is treated by an androgen inhibitor such as spironolactone(Aldactone). Topical cream. Eflornithine (Vaniqa), a prescription cream is a primary treatment for women with excessive hair growth.
If you use the above medication, please make sure that know all the side effects.
Some researchers suggested due to the complex nature of the syndrome, management is usually a long and troublesome process.
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of the genus, belonging to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean.
The herb or food has been used in traditional and herbal medicine as a warming, carminative, antispasmodic, and depressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, regulate the menstrual cycle, and relieve PMS,...
The double-blind study, using an ethanolic extract of Fennel, obtained by a Soxhlet apparatus to test the efficacy against the expression of idiopathic hirsutism of a total of 38 patients, includes women with idiopathic hirsutism, a normal ovulatory menstrual cycle and normal levels of serum androgens but exhibited male growth pattern were selected to participate.
All patients were assigned randomly to receive either topical cream containing 1%, 2% of Fennel extract, or placebo.
At the end of the experiment, researchers found that the application of fennel cream exerts a significant effect in reducing hair growth diameter compared to placebo.
Fennel cream with a 2% concentration displayed a strongly inhibited activity compared to cream with 1%.
Specifically, the mean values of hair diameter reduction were 7.8%, 18.3%, and -0.5% for patients receiving the creams containing 1%, 2%, and 0% (placebo) respectively, without inducing any untolerated adverse effects.
These results suggested that fennel ethanolic extract in reducing male hair growth patterns may be attributed to estrogenic properties in the activation of the molecular pathways involved in the estrogen-mediated induction of hair growth.
Dr. Ozra Akh, the lead author said, "Estrogens harness the making of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the papilla cells of the skin by controlling 5-alfa reductase enzyme or increasing the conversion of testosterone to weaker androgens and decreasing the testosterone available for conversion to DHT".
Truly, in the review of literature of randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial carried out from 2009 to 2011, in Sari, Iran with a total of 44 women with mild to moderate idiopathic hirsutism, researchers assigned participants either to the group of 22 treated with fennel gel 3% or the control group received placebo.
The mean age of both groups is not much different at 26.9±6.7 and 25.6±4.3 years in the case and control group, respectively, the researchers after taking into account co and confounders indicated that the application of fennel gel 3% demonstrates a significant effect in the reduction of the thickness of facial hair in micrometer by microscope compared to placebo, after 24 weeks of treatment.
The results of the score of both groups were compared to the baseline taken before the experiment
Although no severity of side effects was found during the period, 4 patients complained of itching (3 in the case group) and 4 patients complained of irritation and itching (3 in the case group).
In comparison to the results of 2 experiments used in the article, both 2% gel and 3% gel exerted a similar efficacy in treating idiopathic hirsutism in patients with mild, moderated, and excessive hair growth.
Truly, the property in reduced unwanted hair growth in the study was probably due to the presence of major bioactive phytochemical trans-anethole and di-anethole anti-androgenic effect.
Based on the evidence found, fennel may be considered a reliable and less expensive functional food for the treatment of idiopathic hirsutism.
However, due to the limited information provided by the small sample size, short period time of follow-up and the case severity does not include in both studies, Additional studies are necessary to reconfirm fennel anti Hirsutism viability.

Fennel may have a therapeutic effect in reducing the risk of unwanted hair growth in women, some scientists suggested.
Hirsutism is an unwanted hair growth pattern in women.

#CarrotOilExtract and #CarrotJuices Stop #ColonCancer Spreading by Increased Apoptotic Cell Death and Inhibited Proliferation, Scientists Say
Kyle J. Norton
Carrots may have a profound and substantial effect on blocking colon cancer cells from spreading, some scientists suggested.
Colon cancer, the third most common type of cancer in the United States, is a condition characterized by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in colon tissue. At the later stage, the cancerous cells may infect other healthy tissue and organs a distance away from the original site.
According to statistics provided by the American cancer society, in the US, 135,430 new cases of colon cancers were diagnosed and 50,260 patients died from colon and rectal cancers in 2017.
Sadly. 1 in 22 men and 1 in 24 women will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime.
The exact causes of colon cancer are unknown, some researchers suggested that increasing age, African-American race, high fat intake, a family history of colorectal cancer, patients with polyps in the large intestine, and inflammatory bowel diseases, and chronic ulcerative colitis are associated to increase the risk of the disease onset.
Besides the symptoms of common cancer, patients with colon cancer may also experience, a change in bowel habits, that lasts longer than 3 weeks, persistent rectal bleeding or blood in your stool,... and abdominal discomforts, such as cramps, gas, or pain.
Dr. O'Neill AM, the lead scientist in concern about the Western diet in the risk of colon cancer, wrote in his vitro, "Human colon cancer growth is accelerated in animals that are obese and insulin resistant due to the consumption of a high-fat Western diet (HFWD)"(4).
Carrot, a root vegetable with an orange color is a subspecies of Daucus carota, belongings to the family Apiaceae, native to Asia and Europe.
In an aim to evaluate the effect of carrot intake and risk of colon cancer, researchers at the Technical University of Munich conducted a randomized cross-over trial of twenty-two healthy young men on a low-carotenoid diet consuming 330 ml tomato or carrot juice per day for 2 weeks with intervention periods preceded by 2-week depletion phases.
At the end of the experiment, researchers found that increased marks of beta-carotene and alpha-carotene were found in the collected feces.
Further analysis of fecal water, researchers indicated that intake of tomato and carrot juice demonstrates a huge activity in the induction of cytotoxic and antiproliferative effects on colon adenocarcinoma cells (HT29) in a high dose-dependent manner without alternating the bile acid concentrations, activities of the bacterial enzymes beta-glucosidase and beta-glucuronidase.
Moreover, intake of tomato and carrot juice also decreased fecal water pH, another indication of anti-colon activity that was attributed to short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) concentration with function in regulated cecal and colonic metabolism and modulated histone acetylation in human HT29 colon cancer cells.
After taking into account other confounders, Dr. Schnäbele K, the lead author said, "2-week interventions with carotenoid-rich juices led only to minor changes in investigated luminal biomarkers relevant to colon carcinogenesis".
Additionally, in the reaffirmation of wild carrots used in folk medicine throughout the world for anticancer and antioxidant activities, researchers at the joint study lead by the University of Surrey conducted an experiment to evaluate the effect of pentane fraction (F1) and the 1:1 pentane: diethyl ether fraction (F2) of the Daucus Carota oil extract (DCOE) in human colon adenocarcinoma cell lines (HT-29 and Caco-2).
The results of the study suggested that the application of the extract F1 and F2 exerts a profound effect in the inhibition of colon cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner.
According to the Flow cytometric analysis, both fractions ameliorated colon cell expression through significantly induced sub-G1 phase accumulation and increased apoptotic cell death.
In the Western blot assay, researchers found that the application of F1 and F2 also reduces cancer cell proliferation through the activation of caspase-3 which is considered a 'death-switch' in colorectal cancer cells.
Administration of F1 and F2 also increased expression of Bax in penetration of cancer mitochondrial outer membrane to mediate cell death by apoptosis. and p53 with function exhibited cancer cell growth arrest and inhibited cancer cell proliferation.
The fractions also decreased levels of Bcl-2 in inhibited PARP cleavage activity in the facilitation of colon cancer cell apoptosis.
This implication suggested that F1 or F2 inhibited colon cancer cells through ameliorated expression of the phosphatidyl inositol 3-kinase (PI3K) pathway which has the function to act as a key mediator of cell metabolism and cell growth at different levels.
More importantly, the injection of DCOE fractions (F1 and F2) also attenuated cell proliferation by inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in HT-29 cells.
The findings strongly suggested that carrots can be considered as a functional food in the prevention and treatment of colon cancer. But Intake of carrot supplements should be taken with care to prevent acute liver toxicity.

#Coffee Intake Daily and Regularly Is Associated with a Reduced Risk of #MetabolicSyndrome, Scientists Say
By Kyle J. Norton
Coffee consumed daily and regularly may have a substantial and potential effect in blocking the onset of metabolic syndrome, some scientists suggested.
Metabolic Syndrome is a group of risk factors associated with the development of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, including high blood pressure, abnormally high blood cholesterol, and triglyceride levels,.....
According to the statistic, about a quarter of the US population have metabolic syndrome and the numbers are increasing at an alarming rate.
The Western diet with a high of saturated and trans, refined sugar, and salt, and processed foods, is associated with the early onset of the condition.
Dr. Christos Pitsavos, in the evaluation of the effect of diet on the risk metabolic syndrome, wrote, "People with the metabolic syndrome may benefit from intensive lifestyle modifications including dietary changes and adopting a physically more active lifestyle".
These statements suggested that everyone can prevent the development of the syndrome through modification of their daily diet accompanied by a change to a healthy lifestyle.
The doctor continued, " During the last decades increasing scientific evidence has emerged that protective health effects can be obtained from diets that are rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, and which include fish, nuts, and low-fat dairy products. Such diets need not be restricted in total fat intake as long as energy intake does not exceed caloric expenditure and if they emphasize predominantly vegetable oils that have a low content of saturated fats and partially hydrogenated oils".
Coffee, second to green tea, is a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, made from roast beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.
According to the search of the database of PubMed and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) for relevant articles published between 1 January 1999 and 31 May 2015, including 11 published reports and 13 studies with a total of 159,805 participants eligible for our meta-analysis, the relatively odd risk ratio of metabolic syndrome between the highest vs lowest category of coffee consumption was 0.872
The review also observed a nonlinear relationship between coffee and coffee caffeine consumption in the amelioration of risk of metabolic syndrome, by dose-response analysis.
Additionally, in a cross-sectional population-based survey of 8,821 adults (51.4% female) conducted in Krakow, Poland. to evaluate the coffee and tea consumption and risk of metabolic syndrome, using food frequency questionnaires, researchers after the observation of the questionnaire returned from participants expressed that there is an interesting association between high coffee consumption of 3 cups and the clusters of lower BMI, waist circumference, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, triglycerides, and higher HDL cholesterol compared to those drinking less than 1 cup/day.
The study apparently indicated that people drinking 3 cups of coffee daily and regularly have a favorably ameliorated risk of metabolic syndrome even after adjusting for potential confounding factors.
More importantly, the study also pointed out that high coffee consumption was negatively associated with waist circumference, hypertension, and triglycerides in women but not in men.
Furthermore, in animal evaluation of the effect of coffee drinking on clinical markers of diabetes and metabolic syndrome in Zucker rats including Diabetic Zucker rats with metabolic syndrome and control Zucker rats, researchers at the Fluminense Federal Institute showed that animals received daily doses of coffee by gavage for 30 days express a substantially decreased risk of metabolic syndrome by reducing serum glucose, total cholesterol, and triglycerides, compared to non-treatment group.
Dr. Abrahão SA, the lead researcher said, "The results demonstrate that treatment with a roasted coffee drink, because of its hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effect, is efficient in the protection of animals with metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus type 2".
The findings from the above studies suggested that coffee drinking daily and regularly have a favorably profound effect in decreasing the risk of metabolic syndrome, particularly in women.

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in protecting the lung against bacteria that cause atypical pneumonia, some scientists suggested.
Atypical pneumonia is an infection of the lower respiratory tract. The disease is accounted for 7%‐20% of community‐acquired pneumonia (CAP).
Most cases of atypical pneumonia are caused by Streptococcus pneumonia. However, Other bacteria such as Mycoplasma pneumonia, Chlamydia pneumonia, Chlamydia psittaci, and Legionella pneumophila are also found in some patients with atypical pneumonia.
Conventional medicine used for the treatment of typical pneumonia, such as Macrolide antibiotics: Macrolide drugs are the preferred treatment for children and adults. Macrolides include azithromycin(Zithromax®) and clarithromycin may be effective. However, they can induce certain side effects including gastrointestinal discomfort.
The article Popular Antibiotics May Carry Serious Side Effects BY JANE E. BRODY, in the explanation of a patient who just took on a dose of antibiotic, wrote," After just one dose, he developed widespread pain and weakness." and " (He is) unable to walk uphill, climb stairs or see clearly, his symptoms included dry eyes, mouth, and skin; ringing in his ears; delayed urination; uncontrollable shaking; burning pain in his eyes and feet; occasional tingling in his hands and feet; heart palpitations; and muscle spasms in his back and around his eyes".
If you are currently taking antibiotics for the treatment of a disease, please make sure that you discuss the side effects with your doctor.
Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
With an aim to find a natural solution with antibacterial potential, researchers at the University of Duisburg-Essen conducted a study to examine whether green tea processes antibacterial activity against the onset of infectious diseases.
In the final report of the experiment, researcher wrote, the minimum inhibitory concentrations against bacteria were 10–100-fold higher compared to the antiviral property with the same volume.
EGCG used alone or in combination with different antibiotics exerts a significant activity against a number of bacteria including multidrug-resistant strains such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, the group of bacteria that cause atypical pneumonia.
The additional analysis suggested that EGCG displays efficacy in inhibiting bacteria by binding to lipid membranes and affecting the folic acid metabolism of bacteria and fungi by inhibiting the cytoplasmic enzyme dihydrofolate reductase.
Dihydrofolate reductase, or DHFR, an enzyme that reduces hydrofolic acid to tetrahydrofolic acid, plays an essential role in the building of the DNA of the cells.
Furthermore, in an aim to find a natural anti-antibacterial remedy in replacing the ineffective antibiotics as well as the concerns over the toxicity of the mainstay of treatment against Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, a main cause of atypical pneumonia, researchers at the Barts & The London NHS Trust conducted a study to examine the effect of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), the major catechin found in green tea, against a number of bacteria.
In a total of 40 clinical isolates of S. maltophilia used in the experiment, scientists found that EGCG exerts a promising in vitro antimicrobial activity against S. maltophilia. At the dose of 512 mg/ L., EGCG inhibited bacteria in the range of 50% and 90%.
Moreover, in the examination of tea leaves organic compounds involved in the defense of the plants against invading pathogens including insects, bacteria, fungi, and viruses, researchers showed that tea flavonoids and teas exert great antimicrobial effects against foodborne and other pathogenic bacteria, virulent protein toxins produced by some of the bacteria, virulent bacteriophages, pathogenic viruses, and fungi.
Taken all together, green tea and its bioactive ingredient EGCG may be considered a functional food and supplement respectively in protecting the human body against bacteria, particularly, Streptococcus pneumonia in the initiation of the onset of bacterial infection and infectious diseases, including atypical pneumonia.
