Allicin, a bioactive compound found abundantly in garlic and onion may be the next pharmaceutical target to identify the single-ingredient medicine for the treatment of cardiovascular disease, some scientists suggested.
Cardiovascular diseases are a class of chronic and medical conditions of heart and blood vessel disease related to the plaque build up in the walls of the arteries that cause the blockage of blood flow and reduced the oxygen and nutrients rich blood to reach the heart, leading to heart attack and stroke,
There are many causes of heart disease. Most heart diseases are caused by high blood pressure that contributes to hardening of the arteries.
High levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) build up in the arteries as a result of an uncontrolled diet with high levels of saturated fat and trans fat.
All these add to the formation of atherosclerosis lesions and eventually arterial blockage or anything that serves to damage the inner lining of blood vessels and impedes the transportation of oxygen and nutrition to the heart can be defined as a risk of heart disease.
Dr. P. Scarborough, the lead author in the study "An index of an unhealthy lifestyle is associated with coronary heart disease mortality rates for small areas in England after adjustment for deprivation" wrote, "Sets of synthetic estimates of the ward-level prevalence of low fruit and vegetable consumption, obesity, raised blood pressure, raised cholesterol and smoking were combined to develop an index of an unhealthy lifestyle".
These results suggested that people who follow the Western diet with high consumption of saturated and trans fat, red meats, and processed food accompanied by physical inactivity are associated with a substantially increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
On the other hand, people who are nonsmokers and follow a traditional diet with a high intake of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and daily moderate exercise have a lower risk of the disease onset.
If you experience symptoms of chest pain, tightness, chest discomfort (angina), shortness of breath, and weakness or coldness in your legs or arms, please check with your doctor immediately, you may be at the early onset of cardiovascular disease.
Allicin is phytochemical containing sulfur in the class of organosulfur compounds, found abundantly in onion and garlic.
In the concerns of hyperlipidemia cause of cardiovascular disease, researchers at the Taishan Medical University, conducted an investigation to test the effects of combination therapy of allicin and fenofibrate on the endothelial and liver functions in rats.
In the study, healthy male Wistar rats fed a high-fat diet were treated with fenofibrate (80 mg/kg per day) alone, allicin (60 mg/kg per day) alone, and a lower dosage of combined therapy (allicin 20 mg/kg per day and fenofibrate 30 mg/kg per day) respectively for 8 weeks.
At the final phase, compared with high-fat diet control, fenofibrate alone or the combined therapy increased remarkably the levels of high-density lipoprotein respectively (P<0.05).
Both single and combined therapy of fenofibrate and allicin significantly enhanced the levels of NO (P<0.01 or P<0.05), but the combined therapy had the greatest high endothelial-dependent vascular relaxation (EDVR) responses. These suggested that both ingredients processed a significant effect in enhancing vascular relaxation.
Futhermore, the combined therapy also inhibited the levels of ALT and AST caused by infection of a high-fat diet in the stimulation of oxidative stress.
Additionally, in the search for chemicals that arise from natural food sources with the potential to provide beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system, researchers at the heart team at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University launched a study to test the effect of allicin on heart diseases.
Application of Allicin demonstrated cardioprotective effects by inducing vasorelaxation and alleviating various pathological conditions of CVD, including cardiac hypertrophy, angiogenesis, platelet aggregation, hyperlipidemia, and hyperglycemia.
Allicin was also discovered to further protect the cardiovascular system by enhancing the antioxidant status by lowering the level of reactive oxygen species and stimulating the production of glutathione.
Dr. Chan JY, the lead author, said, "From the pharmacokinetic studies, allicin is known to be hydrophobic and can be readily absorbed through the cell membrane without inducing any damage to the phospholipid bilayer and then rapidly metabolized to exert pharmacological effects that are important to the cardiovascular system".
Taken together, Allicin, the bioactive compound may be considered a functional supplement for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, depending on the further differentiation in the human study

#Herbal #Arctostaphylosuvaursi Processes a Strong Antibacterial Activity Similar to Those of Conventional Antibiotics, According to Studies
Kyle J. Norton
Arctostaphylos uva-ursi may be the next target to identify the single ingredient as the natural antibiotic for the treatment of bacterial infection with no side effects, some scientists suggested.
Infection is a result of pathogens entering the human body and starting to multiply. In the acute phase of infection, the white blood calls in the immune first line of defense stimulate the production of inflammatory cytokines to the site with an aim to kill off the invaded bacteria.
During the battle normally won by the immune system, the overexpression of inflammatory cytokine can cause symptoms of skin redness, swelling, and fever as well as damage to the nearby cells, leading to healthy cell death and improper healing with the formation of irreversible scars.
Normally, the immune system can kill off the foreign bacteria within 3 -8 weeks. However, if the immune fails to destroy all the pathogens within that time frame, it will adapt to the change, leading to chronic inflammatory diseases such as RA and diabetes.
The microorganism infection can be broken down into many stages
* In the first stage, a new host is exposed to infectious particles shed by an infected individual.
*In the second stage of contact between the host and the infectious particles may be through the skin or the internal mucosal surfaces of the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and urogenital tracts.
* In the stage of finding the focus site to establish infection. Most pathogens start this stage by adhering to the epithelial surface, and then colonizing it, or penetrating it to replicate in the tissues. In this stage, the foreign pathogens are at risk to be expelled by the natural immune defenses.
Dr.Janeway CA Jr, the lead author in the article "Immunobiology: The Immune System in Health and Disease. 5th edition" wrote, "Only when a microorganism has successfully established a site of infection in the host does disease occur, and little damage will be caused unless the agent is able to spread from the original site of infection or can secrete toxins that can spread to other parts of the body".
"Extracellular pathogens spread by direct extension of the focus of infection through the lymphatics or the bloodstream.". and "Obligate intracellular pathogens must spread from cell to cell; they do so either by direct transmission from one cell to the next or by release into the extracellular fluid and reinfection of both adjacent and distant cells".
Arctostaphylos uva-ursi is one of the species of Bearberry, in the genus Arctostaphylos, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to northern North America, Asia, and Europe.
The herb has been used in traditional medicine as a diuretic agent and to treat urinary problems, including bladder infections, kidney infections, kidney stones, pelvic pain, etc.
Herbal Arctostaphylos uva-ursi contains arbutin, ursolic acid, tannic acid, gallic acid, some essential oil and resin, hydroquinones tannins, phenolic glycosides, and flavonoids.
In the finding, a natural or natural whole for the replacement of conventional antibiotics which not only has developed resistance to most antimicrobial agents but also induces significant side effects, researchers at the University of Ottawa examine the ethanolic extracts of 14 Canadian botanicals, analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography.
Extracts of Arctostaphylos uva ursi (kinnikinnick or bearberry) inhibited the growth of all Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Ng) isolated with minimum inhibitory concentrations of 32 μg/mL compared to higher doses of other botanical plants.
After comparing the antibacterial efficacy of all selected herbal plants in the study, researchers suggested that herbal Arctostaphylos uva-ursi represents a potential source of novel compounds which inhibit Ng, including isolates resistant to antibiotics.
Futhermore, in the testing, the antibacterial activity of the new discovery of two novel acylated caprylic alcohol glycosides (1, 2) isolated by Arctostaphylos pumila using the High-throughput isolation, purification, and analysis methods.
Both new compounds showed to exert a significant inhibitory effect against resistant and nonresistance bacteria.
More precisely, compounds 1 and 2 exhibited antibacterial activity against Gram-positive methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus with a MIC of 128 microg/mL and 64 microg/mL, respectively.
The finding suggested that the extracts and a bioactive compound of Arctostaphylos uva ursi process a strong antibacterial activity similar to those of conventional antibiotics with no side effects.
However, intake of the extracts or a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdoses and acute toxicity.

#Ginger Not Only Inhibits Symptoms of PCOS But also Restored Biochemical Parameters to Normal and Decreased a Numbers of Cysts in the Ovaries, Researchers Find
Kyle J. Norton
Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a medical condition characterized by undeveloped follicles clumping on the ovaries that interfere with the function of the normal ovaries resulting in enlarged ovaries, leading to a hormonal disorder that affects between 6 to 10% of women.
According to the statistics, in the US, about 6 to 10% of women suffered from PCOS.
The causes of PCOS are not identified. However, some researchers suggested that genetic preposition may play a critical role in facilitating hormone levels and insulin resistance.
Some researchers in the comparison of 80% PCOS prevalent rate in overweight and obesity in women in the US and a much lower prevalence rate outside the US suggested that the prevalence and severity of obesity are lower in women with PCOS outside the U.S. probably associated with some environmental factors, such as lifestyle, contribute to the development of obesity in PCOS that do not exist in other counties.
Women with PCOS due to hormonal imbalance are associated with a higher risk of infertility.
As of today, the treatment of PCOS is a medication used mostly to balance the hormones and relieve some of the symptoms, such as acne and weight gain.
The most common symptoms are menstrually related such as irregular periods, no periods and painful periods, insulin resistance, obesity, acne, and male pattern hair growth.
If you experience some of the aforementioned symptoms, please make sure you check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.
The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.
Researchers in the urgency to find a natural compound for the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), compared the effectiveness of ginger with clomiphene on sexual hormones such as Luteinizing hormone (LH), Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estrogen and progesterone in order to treat PCOS effectively with fewer side effects.
The study included 63 adult female rats (170-200 gr) divided randomly into 9 groups as control (not received any interventional substance for 60 and 89 days), sham (were given distilled water and ethyl alcohol intraperitoneally daily for 60 and 89 days), and 7 experimental groups receiving estradiol valerate (PCOS inducing agent, intramuscular) alone and with 100 mg/kg clomiphene or different doses of ginger extract (175 and 350 mg/kg) orally daily for 60 and 89 days.
Clomiphene and ginger extract groups demonstrated significant improvement in hormonal secretion compared to the PCOS-induced group.
Furthermore, clomiphene, compared with the lower dose of ginger extract, had a better-improving effect on balancing sexual hormones in PCOS.
Moreover, ginger extract at higher doses has better effects on improving PCOS.
Based on the finding, researchers wrote in the final report, "The long-term administration of clomiphene citrate has some side effects, the use of ginger as a herbal medicine without any side effects at high doses can be an effective and good alternative in improving PCOS".
In order to reveal more information about ginger's anti-PCOS properties, scientists evaluated the effects of 6-gingerol on the biochemical parameters and ovarian histological improvements in estradiol valerate (EV) induced PCOS rats.
In the study, 36 female Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups: control, which received a normal diet, PCOS control, which received a 4 mg/kg EV injection for 28 days and two experimental groups, which received an EV injection for 28 days and followed by 6-gingerol (200 μg/kg and 400 μg/kg) for 14 days.
Before injection of 6-gingerol, administration of EV led to increased body and ovarian weights, abnormality in serum sex steroid profile, decreasing antioxidant activity, and stimulating the production of COX-2 gene in the expression of inflammation caused by oxidative stress.
Administration of 6-gingerol particularly the 400 μg/kg dose, markedly attenuated these alterations.
The bioactive compound not only inhibited symptoms of PCOS rats by decreasing the expression of COX-2 but also restored biochemical parameters to normal and decreased cysts in the ovaries.
Taken together, ginger processed with a high amount of bioactive compounds may be considered a functional alternative for the prevention and treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome, pending the confirmation of large sample size and multicenter human study.

Papaya may be considered a natural whole food for the prevention and treatment of hypertension, some scientists suggested.
Hypertension is another term for abnormally high blood pressure in the arteries.
Although h blood pressure usually does not cause symptoms some patients with the syndrome may experience dizziness and light head.
Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood.
Underlying medical conditions such as kidney disease and long-term stress are associated with high blood pressure. Epidemiological studies strongly suggested that poor lifestyle habits, such as an unhealthy diet, obesity, and lack of exercise, are some major risk factors that can contribute to the early onset of high blood pressure.
Some researchers also found that excessive energy intake and obesity are major causes of hypertension. Dr. Savica V, the lead author in the study "The effect of nutrition on blood pressure" wrote, "Obesity is associated with increased activity of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone and sympathetic nervous systems, possibly other mineralocorticoid activity, insulin resistance, salt-sensitive hypertension, and excess salt intake, and reduced kidney function".
High sodium chloride intake strongly predisposes to hypertension".
"Increased alcohol consumption may acutely elevate blood pressure. High intakes of potassium, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and protein, along with exercise and possibly vitamin D, may reduce blood pressure".
In the review of all the causable risk factors, you may find that the only natural way to prevent and treat hypertension is to follow a diet with a high intake of fruits and vegetable and whole grain and less in saturated and trans fat, red meat and processed food accompanied with a healthy lifestyle and moderate exercise.
Conventional hypertensive medications have undoubtedly prevented many deaths from heart disease in the past 30 years, but they have many side effects.
If you are currently taking hypertensive medicine, please make sure you know all the side effects for the preventive measure.

Furthermore, in the iACE inhibition assay, the inhibitory potential was highest in hexane extract of pegaga (48.45%) and dichloromethane extract of pucuk betik (59.77%).
These results suggested that papaya may have a nutraceutical potential for hyperglycemia and hypertension prevention associated with type 2 diabetes.
Male albino Wistar rats randomly were divided into three batches (15 rats per batch)-renal, DOCA-salt hypertensives, and normotensives. In the study to examine the antihypertensive effect of crude ethanol extract from the unripened fruit of Carica papaya.
Each batch was further divided into three groups-the untreated, hydrallazine, and extract-treated groups.
Before injection of crude ethanol extract, the basal (control) The mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) was 93.8 +/- 4.5, 175.2 +/- 5. 1 and 181.3 +/- 6.2 mmHg in the normotensive, renal and DOCA-salt hypertensives, respectively.
Groups treated with extract produced about 28% more depression of MAP than hydrallazine in the hypertensive groups treated with hydrallazine (200 microg/100 g i. v) and extract (20 mg/kg.i.v).
In vitro, using isolated rabbit arterial (aorta, renal and vertebral) strips showed that the papaya extract (10 microg/mL) produced relaxation of vascular muscle tone.
According to the findings, the fruit juice of C. papaya probably processes antihypertensive agent(s) which exhibits mainly alpha-adrenoceptor activity.
Taken together, the unripe fruit of papaya may have a significant effect in reducing the risk of hypertension and treatment of hypertension with no side effects.

#Sulforaphane Combined with #Chloroquine Prevents #ProstateCancer and Decreased Cell Proliferation, Increased Apoptosis, and #Cancer Cell Degradation, Scientists Show

Scientists may have found a bioactive compound that processes a potential for the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer, with no side effects, according to studies.
Prostate cancer is a chronic condition characterized by abnormal cell growth in the tissue of the prostate gland. It is a slow-growth disease that takes years to develop and prostate cancer may be detected during the physical (rectum) exams.
The cause of prostate cancer is a result of the alternation of DNA of the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the prostate. Researchers do not know what causes the change of cell DNA and they can not explain why people with the same health conditions, ethnicity, and family history, are susceptible to the disease onset while others do not.
However, researchers do know that the increase in age, especially after age 50, as more than 80% of prostate cancers are diagnosed in men who are 65 or older, is one of the major factors associated with the disease.
Other risk factors of prostate cancer include high fat, high processed carbohydrate diet, and lifestyle. And, men who are overweight or obese are at greater risk of ultimately developing an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
However, most people with some of the risk factors have never developed prostate cancer. Some researchers suggested that men who have a history of an enlarged prostate may be at an increased risk of prostate cancer.
Dr. Saiful Miah, the lead scientist in examining the risk of developing prostate cancer of men suffering from BPH wrote "BPH and PCa can be linked together at a molecular and cellular level on genetic, hormonal, and inflammatory platforms suggesting that these prostatic diseases have common pathophysiological driving factors. Epidemiological studies are weighted towards the presence of BPH having a greater risk for a man to develop PCa in his lifetime".
The most common symptoms of a late stage prostate cancer include a burning sensation or painful urination, difficulty urinating, or trouble starting and stopping while urinating, more frequent urges to urinate at night, decreased the flow of urine stream, particularly, blood in the urine (hematuria) if the tumor breaks the nearby blood vessel, loss of bladder control if the tumor has affected the bladder tissue and localized pain if the tumor has pressed on the nearby nerve cells.
If you have some of the above symptoms, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility of prostate cancer.
Dithiolthiones are phytochemicals in the class of Organosulfides, found abundantly in cruciferous vegetables, garden sorrel, horseradish, etc.
On finding a natural compound or whole food for the treatment of prostate cancer, researchers in the cancer team at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and School of Medicine investigated the anti-prostate cancer effect of sulforaphane (SFN).
Injection of sulforaphane (SFN) showed to decrease the incidence or burden of early-stage prostate cancer. In other words, the chemical compound protected the prostate gland against cell alternation to initiate the disease onset.
SFN treatment exerted cytoprotective autophagy in cultured human prostate cancer cells. A used combination of chloroquine (CQ), the compound reduced the weight of the prostate compared to the control. The average size of the metastatic lymph node was also lower by about 42% in the SFN + CQ group than in the control.
Interestingly, the SFN + CQ combination was not superior to SFN alone. Furthermore, the SFN + CQ combination injection not only showed prevention of prostate cancer and metastasis but also decreased cell proliferation, increased apoptosis, and cancer cell degradation.
In advanced androgen-independent prostate cancer (AIPC) represented by the DU145 and PC3 cell lines, compared the effect of TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) and sulforaphane (SFN), researchers showed that sulforaphane exerted a similar effect on apoptosis-resistant cancer stem cells (CSCs) properties compared to TRAIL, though the agents acted synergistically when applied in combination.
In vivo, tumor engraftment and tumor growth were strongly inhibited by sulforaphane (SFN),, without inducing any side effects.
In the comparison of the effect of sulforaphane(SFN) and 3,3'-diindolylmethane(DIM) in normal prostate epithelial cells and prostate cancer cells, researchers at Oregon State University found that SFN and DIM reverse many of the cancer-associated methylation alterations, including aberrantly methylated genes that are dysregulated or highly involved in cancer progression.
Taken altogether, sulforaphane(SFN) use alone may be considered a bioactive ingredient for the prevention and combined with the primary therapy for the treatment of prostate cancer.

#Cucumber Has a Strong Impact on Curbing #AcidReflux and Reducing the BurningSensation Due to Hyperacidity, According to Studies
Kyle J. Norton
A stomach ulcer is an open sore in the lining of the stomach.
In other words, if the mucus layer of your stomach that protects your stomach tissues against stomach acid is worn away and stops functioning, you may have a stomach ulcer.
The most common symptoms of stomach ulcer are indigestion caused by reduced function of the stomach and pain or discomfort in the stomach area.
Some patients may also experience symptoms of heartburn, vomiting, or vomiting blood, leading to dark blood in stools, or stools that are black or tarry, unexplained weight loss, and appetite changes.
If you have some of the aforementioned symptoms that often change over time, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.
Epidemiologically, long-term intake of NSAIDs, smoking, excessive alcohol drinking psychological symptoms such as stress, and eating spicy food are some of the most stomach ulcer prevalent factors.
According to the statistics, in the US, peptic ulcer disease (PUD) affects approximately 4.5 million people annually and the lifetime prevalence infected by H pylori is approximately 20%.
Believe it or not, approximately, 1/10 people in the US will develop an ulcer in the stomach or small intestine at some point in their lives.
Conventionally, depending on the causes of the stomach ulcer, the patient may be prescribed by
* Antibiotic medications for the treatment of bacterial infection.
* Medications that reduce or block acid production and promote healing.
* Particularly, the medications that protect the lining of the stomach.
The cucumber plant is a species of Cucumis Sativus, belongings to the family Cucurbitaceae and native to Western Asia. It is a creeping vine with roots in the ground and grows up with the support of frames.
With an aim to find a natural compound for the treatment of stomach ulcers, researchers compared the compares the antacid effect of broccoli, kale, radish, cucumber, lemon juice, cold milk, and curd in an artificial stomach model.
According to the tested results, cucumber exerted an acid-neutralizing effect better than those water.
Compared to other healthy foods, cucumber exhibited a significantly higher duration of consistent neutralization.
In other words, cucumber protected the stomach against acidity by restoring the natural gastric balance and function, which may have a strong impact on curbing acid reflux and reducing the burning sensation due to hyperacidity.
Through its acid-neutralizing effect, cucumber may soothe the inflamed mucosa of the stomach against the onset of an ulcer.
Based on the results, Dr. after taking other factors into account wrote, "It may be concluded that the natural food ingredients used in this study exhibited significant antacid activity, justifying their use as essential dietary components to counter hyperacidity".
Taken altogether, cucumber may be used for the treatment of stomach hyperacidity, pending the confirmation of a larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Healthyfood #Honey Has a Short-Term Effect on Reducing Blood Pressure in Healthy Individuals, Researchers Reveal
Kyle J. Norton
Scientists may have found a natural alternative for the treatment of hypertension, according to studies.
Hypertension is a condition of abnormally high blood pressure. It is a member of the cluster of conditions associated with an increased risk of heart disease and stroke.
Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood.
According to the statistics provided by the American Heart Association, approximately, 103 million U.S. adults have high blood pressure, or 1 in 2 adults in the US have the syndrome.
Bad eating habits, unhealthy lifestyles, and certain medical conditions such as kidney disease, diabetes, and sleep apnea are some of the risk factors for high blood pressure.
However, some researchers suggested that the prevalence of obesity over the past few decades may have a strong impact on the increased high blood pressure risk in the US.
Dr. Shu-Zhong Jiang and colleagues in examining obesity and the high blood pressure risk wrote, "Obesity is a major risk for essential hypertension, diabetes and another morbidity that contribute to the development of kidney disease because it mainly increases tubular reabsorption to impair pressure natriuresis and cause volume expansion,...".
And, "Additionally, obesity causes cardiovascular and renal diseases through several mechanisms including hypertension, hyperglycemia, inflammation, dyslipidemia, and atherosclerosis, which are disorders that can coexist, particularly in the presence of excess visceral fat to cause metabolic syndrome (65) and are characterized by alteration in fat metabolism through lipid accumulation".
The results strongly suggested that obesity not only is associated with hypertension but also is a major contributor to the risk of other chronic diseases.
Honey is a miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.
The rich golden liquid is considered of healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener by many people.
Researchers on finding a herbal remedy for the treatment of hypertension with no side effects examined the honey effect on blood pressure and heart rate.
The study included 50 healthy male subjects, who were given 20 ml of honey to consume, and their systolic SBP, DBP, and HR were measured at different intervals; 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 60 minutes after the intake of honey.
Honey treatment significantly (p = 0.05) decreased SBP from 117.80±0.88 to 110.20±2.14 after 15 minutes of honey intake.
The blood pressure of the honey treatment was maintained as the reading after 30 minutes of honey consumption was 111.33±2.14, and 60 minutes of honey intake was 110.4±2.08.
The findings clearly suggested that honey has a short-term effect on reducing blood pressure in healthy individuals.
In order to reveal more information about honey anti-high blood pressure activity, researchers investigated the honey effect on blood pressure and heart rate in healthy males and females.
The study included 100 healthy male and female participants who were given 20ml honey orally administered. The basal systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and heart rate (HR) before the injection of honey were taken as the control values.
Diastolic blood pressure and heart rate were measured at 15, 30, and 60 minutes with a digital sphygmomanometer and analog sphygmomanometer as a check.
The results showed that mean SBP decreased significantly in females compared to males at control, after 15, 30, and 60 minutes of oral administration of 20ml of honey.
DBP decreased significantly in females compared to males at control, after 15 minutes and 60 minutes of oral administration of 20ml of honey and HR decreased (p=.05) significantly.
The results indicated that honey has a strong effect in reducing blood pressure in females compared to the male counterpart, probably due to hormone expression.
Taken altogether, honey may be considered a functioning remedy for the prevention and treatment of high blood pressure, particularly in females, pending the confirmation of a large sample size and multicenter human study.
