#Herbal #Ginger Processes #AntiAging Property Through Its Oxidativestress and Antioxidant Activity, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

In seeking natural therapy with no side effects, scientists may have a vegetable with anti-aging potential, according to studies.

Aging is a natural process of becoming older. Antiaging is a term that relates to delayed aging. In other words, anti-aging is an action that makes your appearance looked younger than your biological age.

The cause of aging has many theories, including the theory of the accumulation of damage due to oxidative stress in the initiation of DNA oxidation and the programmed aging concept due to DNA methylation.

However, regardless of the theories, the decrease in hormone production gradually found in the human body may be one of the major cause of aging progression.

In fact, reduced production of hormones affects the amount of hormone released into the bloodstream, leading to decreased functioning of the target organs and systems.

Some researchers suggested that improved nutrient intake may have a strong effect in delaying the progression of aging and reducing the risk of age-related diseases.

Dr. Simpson SJ, the lead scientist in the joint study led by the University of Sydney wrote, "Nearly a century of research has shown that nutritional interventions can delay aging and age-related diseases in many animal models and possibly humans".

And, "Nutritional geometry provides new perspectives on the relationship between nutrition and aging by focusing on calories, macronutrients and their interactions across a landscape of diets, and taking into account compensatory feeding in ad libitum-fed experiments".

The results strongly suggested that if you follow a healthy diet with nutrients diet by focusing on calories, and macronutrients, you may delay the process of biological aging.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

Researchers on finding a natural ingredient that processes anti-aging properties examined the ameliorative effects of two antioxidant supplements, ginger and alpha lipoic acid (ALA), on hepatic ultrastructural alterations in old rats by evaluating the livers of young (4 months) and old (24 months) Wistar rats.

Before the administration of ginger and ALA, the livers of old rats showed sinusoidal collapse and congestion, endothelial thickening and defenestration, inconsistent perisinusoidal extracellular matrix deposition, and aged hepatocytes associated with reduced liver function.

Injection of ginger and ALA supplementation completely normalized all the alternation due to aging in the tested old rats.

The findings strongly suggested the use of ginger and ALA as anti-aging products for improvement based on their amelioration of ultrastructural alterations in the livers of old rats.

Additionally, in order to get more information about ginger's anti-aging effects, researchers examined the anti-aging natural products, the active constituent 6-shogaol isolated from ginger.

Application of the tested compound showed the lifespan-extending effect in a dose-dependent manner in Caenorhabditis elegans.

The anti-aging activity effects were attributed to 6 gingerols in increasing oxidative stress tolerances via antioxidant enzyme induction.

In the depth differentiation, researchers surprisingly found that 6-shogaol inhibits the aging process independent from other aging-related factors of C. elegans.

Taken altogether, ginger processed with high levels 6 gingerols may be considered a functional anti-aging remedy, pending the confirmation of a larger sample-sized and multicenter human study

#Herbal #AloeVera Cream Reduces Symptoms of #Psoriasis and Improves Quality of Life, Researchers Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Herbal Aloe vera may be a potential therapeutic remedy for the prevention and treatment of psoriasis with no side effects, scientists found.

Psoriasis is a skin condition characterized by speeding up the life cycle of skin cells, leading to the formation of scales and red patches that are itchy and sometimes painful.

The most common cause of psoriasis is a skin infection with an autoimmune disorder caused by the immune system attacking the skin tissue after bacterial and virus invasion or skin injury due to a cut or scrape, an insect bite, or a severe sunburn.

Some researchers believe that the disorder can also be driven by the change in weather, illness, or stress.

Similar to other types of inflammation, it is a result of overexpression of the inflammatory cytokines produced during the course of skin injury and damage, leading to the death and damage of the skin cells that cause skin cells in the affected area to turn over at a significantly faster rate than normal.

Several risk factors, according to epidemiological studies such as infection, skin injury, smoking, being overweight or obese, and long-term use of certain medications including beta-blockers used for the treatment of hypertension are involved in the initiation and progression of psoriasis.

Genetic preposition such as HLA-C06:02 environmental and lifestyle factors, such as certain foods and infections, are some risk factors for psoriasis.

According to statistics, these people have a 30% increased risk for the development of the condition.

Therefore, identifying the trigger potentials may be important for these patients to develop strategies for the management and prevention of psoriasis.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan. It has become very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits.

The herbal plant has been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of diseases, including wounds, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, etc. It is also one of many popular herbs studied in scientific ways with some conflicting results.

The ten main areas of chemical constituents of Aloe vera include amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, lignins, monosaccharides, polysaccharides, salicylic acid, saponins, and sterols.

With an aim to find a natural ingredient or herbal medicine for the treatment of psoriasis, with no side effects, researchers evaluated the Aloe vera gel, used traditionally for the treatment of skin diseases, including psoriasis, by assessing the ethanolic extract of the gel in a mouse tail model of psoriasis.

The extract displayed a significant differentiation in the epidermis, as seen from its degree of orthokeratosis (85.07 ± 3.36%) when compared with the negative control (17.30 ± 4.09%).

Furthermore, the extracted gel was found to be equivalent to the effect of the standard positive control, tazarotene (0.1%) gel, which showed a 90.03 ± 2.00% degree of orthokeratosis.

Moreover, the ethanolic extract of Aloe vera leaf gel also produced a significant increase in relative epidermal thickness when compared with the control group, and no change in the standard tazarotene.

Dr. Dhanabal SP, the lead scientist said, "The extract showed an overall antipsoriatic activity of 81.95%, compared with 87.94 for tazarotene, in the mouse tail model for psoriasis".

Additionally, in the examine the topical aloe vera (AV) used to treat various skin conditions, including psoriasis, researchers launched a randomized, comparative, double-blind, 8-week study.

80 patients included in the randomized study received AV or 0.1% TA cream.

The patient's clinical responses were evaluated using the Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI) and the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI).

After 8 weeks of treatment, researchers discovered the mean PASI score decreased from 11.6 to 3.9 (-7.7) in the AV group and from 10.9 to 4.3 (-6.6) in the TA group. Between-group difference was 1.1 (95% confidence interval -2.13, -0.16, P = 0.0237.

And, the mean DLQI score decreased from 8.6 to 2.5 (-6.1) in the AV group and from 8.1 to 2.3 (-5.8) in the TA group.

Between-group difference was 0.3 (95% confidence interval -1.18, -0.64, P = 0.5497).

In the final report, Dr. Choonhakarn C, the lead scientist wrote, "AV cream may be more effective than 0.1% TA cream in reducing the clinical symptoms of psoriasis; however, both treatments have similar efficacy in improving the quality of life of patients with mild to moderate psoriasis".

The findings suggested that herbal Aloe vera may be considered a functional remedy for the treatment of psoriasis topically with no side effects.

#Herbal #Bilberry Inhibits Parameters Associated with the Onset of #CardiovascularDisease, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a whole fruit for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, according to studies.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are a group of conditions associated with blood vessels and the heart.

According to the statistics provided by the World Health Organization, cardiovascular diseases are the number 1 cause of death globally. Approximately, 17.9 million people died from CVDs in 2016, representing 31% of all global deaths.

The most common risk factors associated with CVD are an unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, smoking, and excessive alcohol drinking.

Patients with CVD mostly were found to have some intermediate conditions such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose and being overweight and obese.

The most common symptoms of CVD include persistent chest pain, chest tightness, chest pressure, and chest discomforts, and conditions associated with lower blood circulation due to narrowing blood vessels such as shortness of breath, numbness, weakness, or coldness in your legs or arms.

Some people before having a CVD may also experience symptoms of pain in the neck, jaw, throat, upper abdomen, or back.

If you experience some of the symptoms aforementioned, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

Some researchers suggested that people who inherited the mutated gene from their parent are also at a higher risk of CVD.

Dr. Sunil K. Nadar the lead scientist in the investigation of the genetics of CVD wrote, "The term ‘cardiovascular disease’ (CVD) encompasses a wide spectrum of diseases—including ischaemic heart disease (IHD), congenital structural heart disease and various inherited arrhythmias and cardiomyopathies—each of which has its own etiology and pathogenesis".

And, "Our present understanding seems to suggest that it is not one gene on its own that leads to CVD, but rather an interaction between the effects of various genes".

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrub in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The plant has been used as herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

In the differentiation of natural compounds for the treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD), researchers in a joint study led by the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra examined the effects of regular consumption of bilberries on CVD risk reduction.

Women (n=25) and men (n=11) included in the study were asked to consume 150 g of frozen stored bilberries 3 times a week for 6 weeks.

At the end of the study, the consumption of bilberries showed a significant decrease of risk factors associated with the onset of CVD, including total cholesterol (P=.017), LDL-C (P=.0347), TG (P=.001), glucose (P=.005), albumin (P=.001), γ-glutamyltransferase (P=.046), and a positive increase in HDL-C (P=.044).
In men, larger favorable changes were found in total cholesterol, glucose, albumin, aspartate aminotransferase, γ-glutamyltransferase, and HDL-C (P=.009) compared to women.

Interestingly, injection of bilberry over the period was not induced a favorable change but an increase of LDL-C.

Dr, Habanova M, the lead scientist after taking this into co and confounders, said, "The regular intake of bilberries can be important to reduce CVD risk, by decreasing LDL-C/TG and increasing HDL-C".

Furthermore, in order to find more information about the bilberry anti-CVD effects, researchers investigated the effect of bilberry juice on serum and plasma biomarkers of inflammation and antioxidant status in subjects with elevated levels of at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD).

The randomized controlled trial included participants who consumed either bilberry juice (n = 31) or water (n = 31) for 4 weeks.

Injection of bilberry juice resulted in a significant decrease in plasma concentrations of C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-15, and monokine induced by INF-gamma (MIG).

However, an increase in the plasma concentration of tumor nuclear factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) involved in the acute phase of systematic inflammation was also observed in the bilberry group.

Bilberry juice exerted a significant effect in modulating the protein associated with pro-inflammatory cytokines, through activation of a transcription factor, a crucial protein (nuclear factor- kappa B (NF-kappaB)) associated with chronic inflammatory diseases.

Interestingly, the injection of bilberry juice did not induce a change in other clinical parameters, including oxidative stress or antioxidant status.

The findings suggested that bilberry reduced the risk of CVD by modulating the inflammation processes.

Taken altogether, bilberry may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease with no side effects, pending the validation of a larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Yoga Shows a Significant Improvement in Physical Measures and Quality-of-Life Among Healthy Seniors, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Yoga therapy ameliorated cognitive decline through the improved psychological symptom of stress, a Duke University Medical Center Durham study suggested.

Yoga, the accident technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well-being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well-known for people in the Western world and some parts of Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes research and supported by health advocates.

Cognition is the reaction and learning process of the brain through information received, involving perception, sensation, notion, or intuition.

In the study of the neurocognitive correlates of emotion interference on cognition in Yoga practitioners and a matched control group (CG) underwent fMRI while performing an event-related effective Stroop task, Image of participated, the yoga group showed an improved cognitive function exhibited less reactivity in right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) to negative as compared to neutral images in compared to the opposite pattern in control.

Additionally, Yoga practitioners had greater activation in the ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (vlPFC) compared to the opposite pattern of control.

In the review of literature of acute studies and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of yoga with reported cognitive outcomes, 7 acute exposure studies indicated that yoga has a strong effect on cognition including memory (g = 0.78, p < .001), followed by attention and processing speed measures (g = 0.49, p < .001) and executive functions (g = 0.39, p < .003).

But in 15 randomized controlled trials (RCTs), yoga attendees only expressed a moderate effect on cognition.

Unfortunately, in a randomized, controlled trial comparing yoga, exercise, and wait-list control groups of 135 generally, healthy men and women aged 65-85 years, the yoga group showed a significant improvement in physical measures (eg, timed 1-legged standing, forward flexibility) as well as a number of quality-of-life measures related to a sense of well-being and energy and fatigue compared to controls but no relative improvements of cognitive function among healthy seniors in the yoga or exercise group compared to the wait-list control group.

Taken together, the conflicting results of the studies are probably due to the small sample size, study design, age group, stage of mental impairment,....,......It is up to the readers to verify themselves after attending a few weeks of yoga lessons.

#Allyl-isothiocyanate (AITC) Derived From #Sinigrin Protects the Neuron Against Toxicity through its Antioxidant Activity, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Sinigrin may be used as a natural and bioactive compound for the treatment of neurotoxicity, according to studies.
Neuroprotection is anything used or intake for the protection of neurons in the brain.

Neurotoxicity is a condition in which the structure or function of the central and/or peripheral nervous system has been damaged due to the presence of biological, chemical, or physical toxins.

Neurons are the cells in the brain with a unique function in which the information is being received processed, and transmitted from cell to cell, muscle, or gland cells.

Neuron toxicity can occur in any part of the brain, depending on the types of neurotoxin. Symptoms of neurotoxicity are also depending on the neurons' specific functions, and the neurotransmitters affected.

According to Integrative Psychiatry, symptoms may include

* Brain fog – loss of mental focus, ADD, ADHD, impaired memory, poor decision-making;

* Insomnia – difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or both

* Pain – migraines, fibromyalgia.

* Obesity – metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and diabetes.

These results clearly suggested that neurotransmitter imbalance can cause a wide range of diseases.

Researchers on finding a natural compound that processes neuroprotective effects examined the Allyl isothiocyanate (AITC), presented in Wasabia japonica (wasabi), and an aliphatic isothiocyanate derived from the precursor sinigrin on neurotoxicity.

Pretreatment with AITC significantly inhibited the production of free radical NO induced by nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and protein (COX-2) associated with inflammation.

Injection of AITC decreased the expression of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) during the acute phase of infection.

Furthermore, AITC inhibited the nuclear factor NF-κB induced oxidative stress and the pathway involved in directing cellular responses.

Moreover, AITC also protected the microglia damage induced by overexpression of pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-α.

The results strongly suggested that AITC exerts anti-neuroinflammatory effects on microglial cells, which may have clinical significance in neurodegeneration.

Taken altogether, sinigrin a bioactive ingredient may be considered a functional supplement for the prevention and treatment of neuro-toxicity, pending the confirmation of a large sample size and multicenter human study.

However, intake of bioactive in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care, as liver toxicity may be induced if overdosed.

#BilberryExtract Combined with#Omega3 FattyAcid-Rich FishOil and Lutein Protect the Vision Against #Asthenopia in Vivos, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Asthenopia is a condition characterized by nonspecific symptoms such as fatigue, pain in or around the eyes, blurred vision, headache, and occasional double vision.

Symptoms occur mostly in the people who have spent a long time in the visual task focusing, such as prolonged reading on the screen or newspaper.

Some researchers suggested by giving the eye some rest such as looking on a distant object at least once an hour can be helpful in alleviating the problem.

Mechanically, eye muscle imbalance or uncorrected vision can also cause asthenopia.

Symptoms of asthenopia include sore or irritated eyes dry or watery eyes, blurred or double vision, and increased sensitivity to light.

Some people may also experience symptoms of trouble focusing and pain in the neck, shoulder, and neck.

If you experience some of the above symptoms, you may have asthenopia, please make sure you check with your doctor for preventive measures.

Some researchers suggested that asthenopia may also be a symptom in people with chronic headaches.

Dr. Vincent AJ, the lead scientist in the investigation of a chronic headache asthenopia wrote, "Sensitivity to light in the absence of a headache was reported by 27.8% of controls and 44.7% of headache sufferers (p less than 0.05)" and "The latter figure increased to 71.3% when a headache was actually present (p less than 0.001)".

These results indicated a strong correlation between a chronic headache and asthenopia.

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrub in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The plant has been used as herb in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

Researchers with the aim of finding a natural ingredient for the treatment of asthenopia examined the effects of dietary supplementation with a combination of fish oil, bilberry extract, and lutein on subjective symptoms of asthenopia in humans.

A double-blind, randomized, parallel-group, and placebo-controlled trial was conducted by the Human Life Science R&D Center,
* In the Active group, eleven subjects were given a supplement containing omega-3 fatty acid-rich fish oil (docosahexaenoic acid 783 mg/day, eicosapentaenoic acid 162 mg/day), bilberry extract (anthocyanidin 59 mg/day), and lutein (17.5 mg/day) in soft gel capsule form, every day for 4 weeks.

* In the Placebo group, nine subjects received placebo capsules.

According to the questionnaires taken before and after the experiment, researchers found that
* Asthenopia symptoms such as "stiff shoulder, low back pain", "frustration", "dry-eye", and "stuffy head" were improved in the Active group compared to the placebo.

* Subjected who received the supplement also demonstrated a significant improvement in mental symptoms such as fatigue after 4 weeks.

No side effects were reported in the active group at the 2 and 4 weeks of supplemental injection, according to the return questionnaires.

The results strongly supported the use of dietary supplementation with the combination of omega-3 fatty acid-rich fish oil, bilberry extract, and lutein for the treatment of asthenopia.

Taken together, bilberry used alone or combined with other supplements may be considered functional remedies for the prevention and treatment of asthenopia with no side effects, pending the validation of a larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Topical #Honey Dressing Displays Anti-Inflammatory Activity in Speeding Up #WoundHealing, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Wound healing is a natural process to replace injured tissue.
The process of wound healing goes through many stages. In the acute phases of wound healing, the immune systematic response induces the p[roduction of the blood palette to cover the wound and the production of inflammatory cytokines to kill off all stimuli or infectious pathogens.

Most cases of infection of the wound healing process are stopped at this stage and the wound process is continued to enter another stage of wound healing until the wound tissue is completely healed.

However, any interruption of the wound-healing process can cause the abnormal formation of scars and keloids.

In serious cases, a wound that can not be healed by 8 weeks can cause a serious complication, leading to chronic low-grade inflammatory disease.

Dr. Hailey Grubbs, the lead scientist in the investigation of wound physiology wrote, "Sometimes this process is interrupted, and chronic wounds or infection occur. Wounds that do not heal after 3 months are considered chronic. Chronic wounds may predispose patients to further complications such as disfigurement, sepsis, loss of function, or amputation".

And, "Other times the healing process may be overactive and form excess scar tissue creating complications such as hypertrophic scars and keloids. Both hypertrophic scars and keloids may be associated with itching, burning, or tenderness".

Honey, the rich golden liquid is a miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.

The liquid is considered one of the healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener by many people.

Scientists on finding a natural ingredient that has the potential in speeding up wound healing examined the use of honey in traditional medicine for the treatment of wounds.

By searching the databases of the medical literature online, researchers found 26 eligible trials (total of 3011 participants) were included in the analysis.

According to the results of high-quality studies, honey topical administration healed partial thickness burns more quickly than conventional dressings (WMD -4.68 days, 95%CI -5.09 to -4.28) without mending any side effects and reduced the overall risk of adverse events relative to those of silver sulfadiazine (SSD).

Compared to high-quality trials, low-quality studies included in the examination suggested that* Honey heals a mixed population of acute and chronic wounds more quickly than SSD or sugar dressings.

Honey healed infected post-operative wounds more quickly than antiseptic washes followed by gauze and was associated with fewer adverse events.

In the final report of the mega differentiation, researchers wrote, "It is difficult to draw overall conclusions regarding the effects of honey as a topical treatment for wounds due to the heterogeneous nature of the patient populations and comparators studied and the lowest quality of the evidence".

In order to clarify honey wound healing potentials, researchers examined honey healing action through its antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Injection of honey exerted a significant effect in breaking the chain of free radicals that cause a detrimental effect on the wounded area.

Honey demonstrated a strong anti-antimicrobial property that overcomes bacterial contamination against the healing rate.

Topical honey dressing displayed anti-inflammatory that protects the tissue from overexpression of proinflammatory mediators.

Moreover, researchers also found that the moisturizing properties of honey could improve wound healing by promoting angiogenesis and oxygen circulation.

Taken altogether, honey topically may be considered a functional remedy for speeding up wound healing, pending the confirmation of a large sample size and multicenter human study.
