#Phytochemical 3,3'-Diindolylmethane Eradicates #OvarianCancer by Inhibiting #Cancer Cell Adhesion, Migration, and Invasion

Kyle J. Norton

Ovarian cancer is a medical and chronic condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissues found either at the tail ends of the fallopian tubes or the ovaries.

According to the statistics provided by the American Cancer Society, ovarian cancer is one of the deadly reproductive cancer in women. Every year, the disease causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system.

The lifetime risk of a woman getting ovarian cancer is 1/78 compared to the lifetime dying risk of 1/108.

The 5-year relative survival of all stages of ovarian cancer is 47%. However, women with ovarian cancer diagnosed at the localized stage have a 5 years survival rate of over 92%.

The exact causes of ovarian cancer are not identified. However, epidemiological studies suggested that women who have endometriosis, genetic preposition such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene, and acquired genetic mutation such as TP53 tumor suppressor gene are susceptible to the substantial risk of the development of the disease.

Besides sharing the common symptoms of other types of cancer, most ovarian cancer patients may experience symptoms of discomfort in the pelvis area, and changes in bowel habits, such as constipation. and a frequent need to urinate.

In seeking a natural product that processes anti-ovarian cancer properties, researchers examined the effects of 3,3'-diindolylmethane (DIM) on ovarian cancer cell viability, invasion, and sensitivity to chemotherapy.

According to the final results obtained by the ovarian cancer SKOV3 and A2780 cell lines treated by the 3,3'-diindolylmethane (DIM), DIM treatment not only potently suppressed the viabilities of ovarian cancer cells but also inhibited xenograft growth in nude mice.

Furthermore, according to the gene analysis, DIM inhibited phosphorylation of STAT3 and AKT proteins and proteins activated by STAT3 and AKT involved in cell growth and division and cell movement in the ovarian cancer SKOV3 and A2780 cell lines

Moreover, DIM inhibited the production of protein and genes associated with the production of a new blood vessel for the cancer cells to grow, promotion of cancer cell survival, and anti-apoptosis.

Additionally, in order to obtain more information about DIM anti-ovarian cancer effects, researchers examined the phytochemical activity of Interleukin (IL6) which has been found to be a major contributor to the initiation and progression of ovarian cancer.

During the experiment, human ovarian carcinoma-derived cell lines SKOV3 and A2780 treated with IL6 and/or DIM and subjected to in vitro proliferation, DIM inhibited the increase of ovarian cancer cell adhesion, migration, and invasion caused by the administration of IL-6 through deactivated the expression of protein STAT3 similar to that of the aforementioned study.

Importantly, DIM-induced ovarian cancer cell apoptosis is associated with the inhibition of the expression matrix metalloproteinases MMP-2 and MMP-9 associated with the pathologic relationship to cancer.

Taken together, 3,3'-Diindolylmethane derived from the digestion of indole-3-carbinol may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of ovarian cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of 3,3'-diindolylmethane in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Yoga Lessons Reduces Physical and Psychological Symptoms and Improves Quality of Life in #BreastCancer Patients, Researchers Reveal

Kyle J. Norton

A recent study by a renowned institution suggested that yoga may be substituted as an integrative form of therapy for the treatment of symptoms of breast cancer patients and survivors.

Yoga, the ancient technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well-being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well-known for people in the Western world and some parts of Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes research and supported by health advocates.

Breast cancer (malignant breast neoplasm) is a cancer of breast tissue involving irregular cell growth in the inner lining of milk ducts (Ductal carcinoma) or the lobules (Lobular carcinoma) that supply the ducts with milk and other areas of the breast. In 2010, over 250,000 new cases of breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. alone and the risk of getting invasive breast cancer during the lifetime of women is 1/8.

According to the joint study led by Jackson State University, breast cancer patients showed an improvement of significant efficacy in altering various outcomes related to breast cancer, after attending in yoga therapy.

In the review of the databases of 23 literature produced in the USA (n = 9), followed by Germany (n = 3), India (n = 3), and Turkey (n = 2). One study each was from Australia, Canada, Iran, Taiwan, Poland, and the UK. met the inclusion criteria, yoga interventions scored a remarkable change in attitude outcomes in patients with breast cancer.

Dr. Sharma M, the lead author said, (due to its effectiveness in treating breast cancer), yoga as an integrative form of therapy for breast cancer is a promising approach".

In breast cancer-related chronic condition of lymphoedema (BCRL), yoga practice promoted the management and prevent the condition from worsening and reduced the threat of infection as well as reducing both the physical and psychosocial effects of lymphoedema, after an 8-week intervention (n=28) and 6-months after a 4-week intervention (n=18).

Promisingly, yoga interventions compromised breathing, physical postures, meditation, and relaxation practices based on Satyananda Yoga, showed a good result in the modification of lymphatic drainage and increased biopsychosocial activities.

Furthermore, with the important guidelines adapted to other yoga styles. yoga therapy may provide a basis for people with secondary lymphoedema in other areas of their body in breast cancer treatment.

Another study also indicated that yoga lessons not only reduced physical and psychological symptoms in breast cancer patients but also improved quality of life, including self-esteem which plays an important for long-term benefits for women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Taking together, there is no doubt that yoga intervention displays a significant effect in attenuating physical and mental symptoms, and enhanced treatment, and quality of life in patients with breast cancer. Students should talk to their instructors about a yoga routine tailored to their needs.

#Honey Process a Strong Antibacterial and Immunomodulatory Properties, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a whole fruit for speeding up the healing of burns, studies found.
Burn is skin and skin tissue damage due to heat, cold, electricity, chemicals, friction, or radiation. The condition is the most prevalent injury in the household, particularly in children.

Most cases of skin burns are healed within a few days or weeks, depending on the degree and size of the burns.
Depending on the severity, complications of deep or widespread burns may include bacterial infection (in some cases can lead to sepsis), hypovolemia (fluid loss), hypothermia (low body temperature), and breath difficulty due to the intake of hot air or smoke.

In some cases, patients with deep or widespread burns can be life-threatening. According to statistics, from Dr. ISHTIAQ AHMED CHAUDHARY in the study of burns and mortality, there is a 100% mortality rate in patients with 70% total body surface area burns compared to a 100% survival rate in patients with less than 30%.

Most cases of first and second-degree burns that affect only the top layer of skin can be treated under cool running water or cool water for 15 minutes until the pain subsides or by taking a pain reliever and applying antibiotic cream.

Other higher degrees of burns should call 911 immediately.

Honey, the rich golden liquid is a miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.

The liquid is considered one of the healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener by many people.

Researchers with an aim to develop a strategy for making the alginate base hydrogel components against burned wound infection examined the effect of honey in the biofilm-forming bacteria colonization in burned patients.

Following the collection of the honey from three different provinces of Iran, an alginate base hydrogel was prepared by the use of calcium chloride.

In vivo, the healing activities of prepared ointment were compared in infected burned rat models. 75% diluted thymol-based honey collected from Damavand province showed the greatest inhibition of bacteria in wounds compared to others.

The hydrogel was also the better healing activity in rat's burned wounds against the bacteria biofilm-forming bacteria colonization compared to the honey application.

Additionally, in order to reveal more activities of honey, researchers investigated the medicinal honey antibacterial and immunomodulatory properties in the treatment of infected wounds.

Ras-induced burn wounds selected for the study were randomly allocated into 4 experimental groups: control (C), PBM super pulsed 904 nm laser-treated (PBMT), honey treated (HT), and combined treatment (CT).

The CT group demonstrated synergistically attenuated inflammation, pain, and enhanced cell adhesion, and migration compared to other treatment groups.

The efficacy of CT was attributed to the inhibition of the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, NF-κB, and IL-1β and the exhibition of molecules in the promotion of wound healing by spreading of platelets at the site of injury, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells into the wound region.

The findings strongly support the use of the combination of medicinal honey and PBMT in accelerating the repair process of burn wounds.

Taken altogether, honey used alone or combined with other therapeutic agents may be used for speeding up wound healing with no side effects, pending the confirmation of a larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Tomatoes' Carotenoids Are Associated with A Reduced Risk of #MetabolicSyndrome, According to Studies

Kye J. Norton

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions associated with the increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The health problems found in the group include too much fat around the waist, elevated blood pressure, high triglycerides, elevated blood sugar, and low HDL cholesterol.

In other words, if you have 3 of the conditions in the group, your risk of CVD and diabetes are increased substantially compared to those who have less.

According to the statistics, approximately 30% of people in the US are living with metabolic syndrome.

Believe it or not, among US adults aged 18 years or older, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome rose by more than 35% from 1988–1994 to 2007–2012, increasing from 25.3% to 34.2%.

Besides the aforementioned conditions, risks of metabolic syndrome may include age, family history, physical, inactivity, and women with polycystic ovary syndrome, epidemiologically.

Some researchers suggested that MS also facilitates complications of liver diseases, including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

As of today, treatment of metabolic syndrome commonly is prescribed medications to reduce blood pressure, cholesterol, and/or blood sugar with an aim to reduce the risk of developing further health complications and improve quality of life.

Some researchers suggested that by changing to a healthy lifestyle and moderate exercise you may do just fine without increasing the risk of complications.

Dr. Christos Pitsavos, the lead scientist said, "Individuals with the metabolic syndrome are at high risk for atherosclerosis and, consequently, cardiovascular disease. However, as a result of several epidemiologic studies and some clinical trials, it has been suggested that people with the metabolic syndrome may benefit from intensive lifestyle modifications including dietary changes and adopting a physically more active lifestyle".

Tomato is red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, and belongs to the family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.

With an aim to find a potential compound or whole food for the treatment of metabolic syndrome, researchers investigated longitudinally whether serum carotenoids are associated with the risk of developing the MetS and its components in Japanese subjects.

The study included a follow-up study on 1073 men and women aged 30-79 years at the baseline from the Mikkabi prospective cohort study over the 10-year period, with 910 subjects (295 men and 615 women) taking part in the follow-up survey at least once.

According to the returned questionnaires,
* Over the span of 7·8 (sd 2·9) years, thirty-six men and thirty-one women developed new MetS.

* The hazard ratio (HR) for the MetS in the highest tertile of serum β-carotene against the lowest tertile was 0·47.

In other words, high levels of serum α- and β-carotene and β-cryptoxanthin were significantly lower risks for dyslipidemia.

Based on the findings, researchers wrote in the final report, "Our results further support the hypothesis that eating a diet rich in carotenoids might help prevent the development of the MetS and its complications in Japanese subjects".

In order to reveal additional information about tomato anti-MetS, researchers assessed the association between serum carotenoids and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in a Chinese population.

Participants recruited from a community-based cross-sectional study included 2148 subjects (1547 women and 601 men) aged 50-75 years in urban Guangzhou, China.

At the end of the study, researchers found that The OR of the MetS for the highest (v. lowest) quartile were 0.31 for α-carotene, 0.23, for β-carotene, 0.44, for β-cryptoxanthin, 0.39 (95% CI 0.26, 0.58) for lycopene, 0.28 for lutein+zeaxanthin and 0.19 for total carotenoids.

In other words, all bioactive compounds found in carotenoids exerted the most anti-metabolic syndrome activity synergistically compared to the individual compound.

The results strongly suggested "Higher concentrations of each individual carotenoid and total carotenoids were significantly associated with a decrease in the number of abnormal MetS components"

And, "Higher serum carotenoid levels were associated with a lower prevalence of the MetS and fewer abnormal MetS components in middle-aged and elderly Chinese adults", according to Dr.Liu J, the lead researcher.

Taken altogether, tomatoes processed with high amounts of bioactive compound carotenoids may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of carotenoids in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Herbal #Cayenne Processes A Strong Activity in Blood Pressure In a Dose Dependent-Manner, Researchers Show

Kyle J. Norton

Herbal cayenne processed a significant amount of bioactive compound Capsicum may have a positive and profound effect on normalizing the levels of blood pressure, according to studies.
Hypertension is a medical condition of abnormally high blood pressure, one of the members of the cluster of conditions associated with heart disease and stroke.

Depending on the reading, some researchers suggested if you are in stage one of high blood pressure, your risk of cardiovascular disease is increased by 10% over the next 10 years.

According to the statistics, in the US, approximately 75 million people, or 1 in 3 U.S. adults have high blood pressure. High blood pressure can be modified by a change of lifestyle.

The most common risk factors for high blood pressure are a poor diet high in salt and potassium and low in vitamin D, being physically inactive, excessive alcohol drinking, use of Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), and aging.

However, not all people with some of the above conditions will develop high blood pressure.

Treatment of stage 1 and 2 hypertension includes daily intake of diuretics which lower high blood pressure by reducing sodium and fluid through increased urinary secretion and Bumetanide (Bumex) Chlorthalidone (Hygroton) or Chlorothiazide (Diuril).

Some patients may experience side effects such as a cough, diarrhea or constipation, dizziness or nervousness, tiredness, weak, and nausea or vomiting.

In a serious case, high blood pressure medication may induce erectile dysfunction. If you are taking high blood pressure medications, please make sure you have discussed the side effects with your doctor.

Some researchers the concern of the widespread of hypertension in the Western world suggested that the condition may correlate to the promotion of the Western diet over the past few decades.

Dr. Adriana Monge and colleagues examined the Western and Modern Mexican diet pattern and risk of high blood pressure, and wrote, "The multivariable-adjusted odds of hypertension in the highest quartile of the Western (W) pattern were 24% higher than the odds for individuals in the lowest quartile"

And, "women in the highest quartile of the MM pattern had 15% higher odds than women in the lowest quartile. The Fruits & Vegetables (FV) pattern was not significantly associated with hypertension".

These results clearly indicated a strong connection of the Western diet pattern in the increased risk of hypertension compared to the lower risk of the fruits and vegetable group.

Cayenne is also known as Cayenne Pepper, a red, hot chili pepper, belonging to Capsicum annuum, the family Solanaceae, native to sub-tropical and tropical regions.

The pepper has been used in traditional medicine to increase metabolism, enhance the circulatory system and stomach and intestinal tract, adjust blood pressure, lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, treat frostbite, muscles, arthritis, rheumatism, low back pain, strains, sprains, bruises, and neuralgia, etc.

The chemical constituents of Cayenne include capsaicin, capsacutin oil, solaine, xanthenes, oleic acid, palmitic acid, etc.

Epidemiological studies linking cayenne in reducing hypertension have not been conclusive, the mechanism of this effect is still a mystery.

Researchers on finding herbal medicine for the treatment of hypertension with no side effects examined the traditionally used medicinal plants against key enzymes relevant for hyperglycemia and hypertension.

Compared to other herbal plants, pepper (Capsicum) inhibited significantly the hypertension-relevant angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE).

The anti-high blood pressure of cayenne probably is associated with the major compound capsaicin, chlorogenic acid, and hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives.
However, in the pig study, application capsaicin isolated from the cayenne showed a significantly increased mean arterial blood pressure compared with controls, and a decrease in CGRP synthesis and release contributes to the elevated blood pressure.

Also, there are 2 cases reported of an arterial hypertensive crisis in a patient with large ingestion of peppers and chili peppers the day before and a 19-year-old Italian man with abundant ingestion of peppers and of chili peppers the preceding day.

Additionally, overdoses of cayenne not only induced arterial hypertensive crisis but also acute myocardial infarction with high levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone.

The findings strongly suggested cayenne processed an antihypertensive and hypertensive effect in a dose-dependent manner.

These dual mechanisms presented in Cayenne may not be explained by conventional medicine. However, traditional Chinese medicine stated cayenne, yang in nature, promotes the Qi movement of blood. In a healthy individual, smooth movement of qi reduces the unnecessary blood pressure in blood transportation. On the other hand, if the movement of qi is blocked due to the presence of a high amount of cholesterol that narrows the blood vessel, it induces higher blood pressure.

The traditional Chinese medicine continued, injection of a high amount of cayenne pepper can cause constriction of blood vessels, leading to narrowing blood flow and risk of hypertension

Taken together, there is no doubt that cayenne may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of hypertension, but the amount of intake should only be prescribed by related field specialists.

#Healthyfood #FermentedPapaya and #Papaya Extract of Leaves, Processes Anti #Diabetes Activities, Studies Find

Kyle J. Norton

Papaya may be the next generation of whole food for the prevention and treatment of type II diabetes with no side effects, some studies suggested.
Diabetes is a condition characterized by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose.

Most cases of type II diabetes are either caused by cells in pancreas died off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol.

In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.

Epidemiological studies suggested that obesity, family history, ethnicity, the increase in age, gestation diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome. and high blood pressure is the most common risk factors associated with the onset of the prediabetes and type II diabetes.

Dr. Stephen S. Rich, in the article "the genetics of diabetes and Its complications", suggested that type II diabetes may be a genetically related disease. Unlike type 1 diabetes, in which there seems to be an autoimmune process, type 2 diabetes is a disease of relative rather than absolute insulin deficiency. Genes involved in type 2 diabetes, with the most promising, replicated findings on chromosomes are 1q21-q24, 2q37, 12q24 and 20.

Untreated and unmanageable type II diabetes may induce complications of the onset of cardiovascular disease, nerve damage (neuropathy). kidney damage (nephropathy), eye damage (retinopathy). foot damage and kin conditions.

Medication used for the treatment of type II diabetes is focused on alleviating the symptoms and improving quality of life and slowing down the progression of the disease.

If you currently intake medicine for treatment of diabetes, please sure you know all the side effects for the preventive measure.
Papaya is a species of Carica Papaya, belonging to the family Caricaceae and native to the tropics of the Americas, and was first cultivated in Mexico and several centuries

Unripe pawpaw fruit (Carica papaya) not only inhibited α-amylase, α-glucosidase but also reduced lipid peroxidation in a dose-dependent manner, in rat pancreas(1).

The key enzymes of α-amylase, α-glucosidase, involved in the digestion of carbohydrates, have been linked to the onset of type 2 diabetes. Inhibition of these enzymes can significantly reduce the post-prandial increase of blood glucose and have been also used for management of blood glucose level in type 2 diabetic and borderline patients by therapists (2).

In streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats study, the aqueous extract of leaves of C. papaya administered strongly controlled blood glucose levels(3), through the prevention of hepatocyte disruption, as well as accumulation of glycogen and lipids via its hypoglycemic and antioxidant effect(4)

In a new study, conducted by the researchers at the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute, fermented papaya preparation was tested whether it improves dermal wound healing outcomes in adult diabetic mice by preventing the risk of infections(5).

The result was astonishing, the fermentation not only up-regulated the Sp1 DNA binding activity(modulating the cellular response to DNA damage) in Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) but also the protein and mRNA expression of Rac2(regulates a number of cellular functions)(5).

A randomized controlled clinical trial conducted at the Cardiac Centre, ANDI Centre of Excellence for Biomedical and Biomaterials Research and Department of Biosciences University of Mauritius, suggested that oral administration of 6g FPP®/day for a period of 14 weeks could improve the general health status of several organs targeted by oxidative stress during diabetes and the supplement may be used in the management the complications of diabetes such as cardiovascular disease, neurological disease and other conditions worsened by overt inflammation and oxidative stress(6).

Taken altogether, unripe, fermented papaya and its' leaves may be effective in diabetic management by controlling the levels of glucose and reduced risk of complications.

Some Western researchers insisted that large sample size and multicenter studies are necessary to validate its effectiveness by identifying the ingredients which are comparable to recently pharmaceutical medicine in use because geography, environment, time of harvest, etc. may influence the concentration of the food cultivation.

In fact, herbalists have long acknowledged that the external factors (mentioned above) may alter the quality of the herbs and foods by classifying these difference either through price or formula differentiation.

Indeed, the effectiveness with little or no adverse side effects of the formula is not the concentration of individual herbs and the herb itself but the interaction of all ingredients in a herb and herbs in the same formula. Extracting only one ingredient of the herb for the treatment of certain diseases may be effective but enhances complicated consequences.

#Honey Shows a #SymptomaticRelief in Child's Nocturnal Cough and Sleep Difficulty, Scientists Say

Kyle J. Norton

Sleep disorders are conditions that can be acute or chronic. Most of us experience sleep disturbance sometimes due to specific and unspecific events. However, chronic sleep disorders are changes in the way that you sleep.
Most people with chronic sleep disorder experience symptoms of excessive daytime sleepiness, irregular breathing or increased movement during sleep, and difficulty falling asleep.

Sleep quality can be measured by examing the. the way that you sleep, including the time period that you need to fall sleep and how many times you have awakened and drifted back to sleep during night sleep.

According to the statistic provided by the National Sleep Foundation’s inaugural Sleep Health Index, 45 % of Americans have poor or insufficient sleep. that affects their daily activities at least once in the past seven days.

The National Sleep Foundation continued, "...despite sleeping within the recommended number of hours a night, 35 percent of Americans report their sleep quality as “poor” or “only fair.” Twenty percent of Americans reported that they did not wake up feeling refreshed on any of the past seven days".

What causes poor quality of sleep in America? Some researchers suggested these may be results from occupation and occupation stress.

Dr, Eui-Joong Kim, the lead scientist, in examing the stressors' effect on sleep quality said, "It is possible that different types of stressors may bring with them different impacts on sleep" and " (a) some aspect of daily stress (such as job stress) and life events (such as divorce, bereavement), (b) experimentally imposed stressors (laboratory-based studies), and (c) traumatic stressors (such as disasters or PTSD)".

Additionally, " The first and last categories typically involve a longer duration of the stress exposure with varying levels of intensity; the experimental stressors, on the other hand, typically involve a short-term exposure to mild stress".

These results partly explained why over 20% of American suffer from poor quality of sleep.

Honey is a miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.

The rich golden liquid is considered one healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener many people.

With an aim to find a natural compound for the improvement of sleep quality, researchers compared the effects of a single nocturnal dose of 3 honey products (eucalyptus honey, citrus honey, or Labiatae honey) to placebo (silan date extract) in children with upper respiratory tract infections (URIs).

The study included 300 children aged 1 to 5 years with URIs, nocturnal cough, and illness duration of ≤ 7 days from 6 general pediatric community clinics.

Eligible children received a single dose of 10 g of eucalyptus honey, citrus honey, Labiatae honey, or a placebo administered 30 minutes before bedtime. There was a significant improvement in sleep quality from the night before treatment to the night after treatment in all 3 honey products and the placebo group.

However, the improvement was greater in the honey groups.

Honey products were rated higher than the silan date extract for symptomatic relief of their children's nocturnal cough and sleep difficulty due to URI, According to the survey returned from parents.

Dr. Cohen HA the lead scientist after taking into account co and confounders, said, "Honey may be a preferable treatment for a cough and sleep difficulty associated with childhood URI".

Furthermore, in order to reveal more information on honey effects in cough and sleep difficulty, researchers compared the effects of a single nocturnal dose of buckwheat honey or honey-flavored dextromethorphan (DM) with no treatment on nocturnal cough and sleep difficulty associated with childhood upper respiratory tract infections.

The study included 105 children aged 2 to 18 years with upper respiratory tract infections, nocturnal symptoms, and illness duration of 7 days or less who were given a single dose of buckwheat honey, honey-flavored DM, or no treatment administered 30 minutes prior to bedtime.

The honey treatment group demonstrated significant differences in symptom improvement between treatment groups.

In paired comparisons, honey was significantly superior to no treatment for cough frequency and the combined score.

And, according to the survey returned by the parents, honey is most favorable for symptomatic relief of their child's nocturnal cough and sleep difficulty in children with upper respiratory tract infections.

Taken altogether, honey may be considered a functional remedy for the improvement of sleep quality, pending the confirmation of a large sample size and multicenter human study.
