#Healthyfood #Tomatoes Improve Intestinal Microbiomes by Increasing Levels of Good Bacteria in the Gut in Vivos

Kyle J. Norton

The intestinal microbiome is the community of bacteria living in the gut. Under normal conditions, the ratio of good and bad microbiomes is balanced.

Believe it or not, our GI tract harbors one of the most complex and abundant ecosystems colonized by more than 100 trillion microorganisms, including Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes.

The composition and functions of the microbiome also have been found to influence by a number of factors including genetics, diet, age, and medical treatments such as antibiotics.

Epidemiological studies suggested that an unbalanced ratio of bacterias in the GI tract due to the aforementioned factors also induce changes in microbiome structure, which links to inflammatory, functional, and metabolic disorders such as IBD, IBS, and obesity.

Dr. Ana M Valdes, the lead scientist in the examined the health benefits associated with intestinal microbiome suggested that gut microbes have a strong effect on human health including immune, metabolic, and neurobehavioral traits.

More precisely, the intestinal microbiomes
* Interact with the immune function against inflammatory immune disorders.

* Reduce the risk of gastrointestinal diseases and non-gastrointestinal diseases caused by overexpression of bad bacteria.

* Increase nutrient absorption from the diet, thus reducing the risk of obesity and obesity complications.

* Control brain insulin signaling and metabolite levels against neurobehaviors.

Tomato is a red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belonging to the family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.

With an aim to discover healthy food for the treatment of intestinal microbiome imbalance, researchers investigated the possibility of a dietary-induced switch to the gut microbiota composition.

The study included Winnie mice-induced ulcerative colitis by treatment of chow enriched with 1% Bronze tomato.

According to the tested results, Bronze-enriched chow showed no macroscopic effect on the IBD symptoms after 2 weeks of administration. However, the injection of bronze tomato exerted a significant effect in the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines and reduced levels of pro-inflammatory production in the same periods in ulcerative colitis mice.

Furthermore, the analysis of the microbial composition suggested that the Bronze enriched diet demonstrated a strong effect on the microbial composition of Winnie and control mice by increasing levels of good bacteria in the gut.

According to the chemical analysis, the effect of bronze tomato in improving the ratio of intestinal microbiome composition was attributed to the polyphenol-enriched diets in creating unfavorable conditions for bad bacterial species.

Another study conducted by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock examined the effect of tomato fruits derived from plants exposed to multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on gastrointestinal epithelial barrier integrity and their impact on the human commensal intestinal microbiota, in vitro cell culture and batch human fecal suspension models also suggested that
* At 0.001 μg ml-1 concentration, CNT-containing fruits showed insignificantly activity on the model T-84 human intestinal epithelial cells.

* However, at 10 μg ml-1 concentration, CNTs showed a strong effect in penetrating the cell membrane and changing the gene expression profile of exposed tested cells.

Taken altogether, tomato-processed multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) may be considered dietary supplements for balancing the ratio of intestinal microbiota, pending a large sample size and multicenter human study.

#Yoga Intervention Inhibits the Depressive symptoms and Improves Bing's Eating Disorder, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Participation in yoga was associated with significantly lower disordered eating (mediated by body awareness) and potential mediating roles of mindfulness and body awareness in view of body dissatisfaction. a State University of New York at Buffalo study suggested

Binge eating disorder is a condition of compulsive eating of vast amounts of food while feeling out of control and powerless to stop. It is the most common eating disorder in the United States affecting 3.5% of females and 2% of males.

Yoga, the ancient technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well-being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well-known for people in the Western world and some parts of Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes and supported by health advocates.

In the study to evaluate the impact of a primary prevention program for eating disorders aimed at fifth-grade females, based on empirically validated risk and protective factors and incorporated interactive discourse, yoga, and relaxation into 10 weekly sessions, researchers found that participating in the yoga combined with another program showed a significant decrease on scales measuring body dissatisfaction and drive for thinness, as well as media influence without mentioning the results of an above-programmed intervention.

Other, in the review literature published on PubMed, PsychInfo, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Cochrane Library, Physiotherapy Evidence Database, the Dutch Journal of Psychiatry (Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie), Tijdschrift voor Vaktherapie and Actual Themata derived from psychomotor therapy between the period January 1994 to August 2011. 8 studies met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and showed that
1. Yoga group displayed a significant weight loss after the completion

2. yoga group expressed fewer depressive symptoms and improved Bing's eating disorder

Dr. Vancampfort D, the lead author said, "Activities involving movement and physical exercise deserve to play an important role in the multidisciplinary treatment of binge eating disorders."

The expression of weight loss in yoga participants more or may have a profound effect on body dissatisfaction

More importantly, in the evaluated attitudes about body image and eating in women practicing postural yoga, researchers showed that
1. Yoga group displayed higher scores on all measures including significant correlations questionnaires on variables related to body awareness, intuitive eating, spirituality, and reasons for practicing
2. Yoga group expressed an improvement in body satisfaction and disordered eating

Taken together, yoga lessons may be used as an integrated form of exercise in the improvement of view of body dissatisfaction as well as treatment of the eating disorder

#Yoga Improves Blood Pressure & Quality of Life & Inhibit Stress, Depression, and Anxiety in Patients with Hypertension

Kyle J. Norton

People who participated in yoga classes are less likely to develop heart disease as yoga is found to normalize blood pressure in hypertension, one of the confounders, a renowned study suggested.
Hypertension is a condition of abnormally high blood pressure and is considered as one of the leading causes of heart disease.

Yoga, the ancient technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well-being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well-known for people in the Western world and some parts of Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes research and supported by health advocates.

According to a joint study led by the Uttarakhand Ayurved University, yoga was the best form of physical exercise in reducing the risk of hypertension through increased blood flow to the brain and reduced stress impacting the brain's calming effects.

In a total of 64 participants (age 53.6 ± 13.1 years) (experimental group), with the result in comparison of the control group of 26 healthy volunteers, in 1-month yoga practice, the yoga group displayed an astonished improvement in decreased BMI (26.4 ± 2.5-25.22 ± 2.4), systolic BP (136.9 ± 22.18 mmHg to 133 ± 21.38 mmHg), and diastolic BP (84.7 ± 6.5 mmHg to 82.34 ± 7.6 mmHg). compared to the control.

Promisingly, Dr.Chauhan A, the lead author said, "Yoga practice has the potential to control BMI and BP without taking any medication".

Additionally, in the review of the literature published between 1946 and 2014 from periodicals indexed in Ovid Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Korea Med, and NDSL with keywords: "hypertension," "blood pressure," "psychotherapy," "relaxation therapy," "meditation," "yoga," and "mind-body therapy.", researchers at the joint study led by the Soonchunhyang University, indicated that participants attended yoga class expressed a significant decrease both systolic and diastolic BP, in compared to the baseline.

Compared to meditation students, the study suggested, "Meditation played a noticeable role in decreasing the BP of subjects older than 60 years of age, whereas yoga seemed to contribute to the decrease of subjects aged less than 60 years".

Even with the amazing result in both the meditation and yoga groups, Dr. Park SH, the lead author concerned, "While acknowledging the limitations of this research due to the differences in BP and the participants' ages, meditation and yoga are demonstrated to be effective alternatives to pharmacotherapy. Given that BP decreased with the use of meditation and yoga, and this effect varied in different age groups, scientifically measured outcomes indicate that these practices are safe alternatives in some cases".

In support of the above differentiation, Lund University filed 191 patients (mean age 64.7 years, s.d. 8.4) allocated to yoga intervention (n=96) and control group (n=95), with a total proportion of 52% women, multi-center randomized controlled trial with follow-up after 12-week yoga intervention completion, involved yoga's impact on blood pressure (BP) and quality of life (QOL) and on stress, depression, and anxiety in patients with hypertension, participants in yoga intervention showed a significant reduction in systolic and diastolic BP for both groups (-3.8/-1.7 mm Hg for yoga and -4.5/-3.0 mm Hg for control groups, respectively). and improvements in some of the QOL and depression measures (P<0.05, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, HADS-D) compared with the control.

Taking together, strong evidence suggested that yoga practice not only reduced risk and prevented the early onset of hypertension but also improved participants' stress and quality of life.

#Alliin Inhibits Alternation of Cell DNA and Gene Related to the Onset of #Cancer, Researchers Discover

Kyle J. Norton

Inflammation is a natural defense of the immune system that protects the body against the invasion of harmful stimuli and pathogens.

In the acute phase of infection, the immune first line of defense white blood cells, macrophages stimulates the production of proinflammatory cytokines to destroy all invaders that try to enter the body.

Most cases of acute infection are stopped at this phase and the wound is healed quickly.

However, if the wound is too large, then the recovery may take a longer period and through 4 overlap recovery stages.

Any interruption in the overlapped recovery stage may cause the formation of scars, similar to those of overproduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Diseases associated with chronic inflammation induced by protein, lipid, and cellular damage include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurodegenerative disease,... and cancers.

In other words, prolonged low-grade inflammation caused by continuing the production of proinflammatory cytokines due to an immune response that can not kill off all invaders in a set period between 3-8 weeks can result in serious and chronic diseases.

The results have been found to cause cell death and alternation of cell DNA.

Believe it or not, people with low-grade chronic inflammation are prone to psychological stress that links to a greater risk for depression, and heart disease. particularly the body's ability to regulate the inflammatory response and typical defense.

Out of many risk factors involved in the onset of chronic inflammatory diseases, some researchers suggested the promotion of a high-fat diet in the Western world may correlate to the rise of the condition.

Dr. Yehui Duan, the lead scientist wrote, "In recent years, chronic overnutrition, such as consumption of a high-fat diet (HFD), has been increasingly viewed as a significant modifiable risk factor for diseases such as diabetes and certain types of cancer".

And, "the recent scientific literature about HFD-induced inflammation and subsequent development of diseases and cancer, with an emphasis on mechanisms involved. Given the expanding global epidemic of excessive HFD intake, understanding the impacts of an HFD on these medical conditions, gaining great insights into possible underlying mechanisms, and developing effective therapeutic strategies are of great importance".

Alliin (S-allyl-L-cysteine-S-oxide) is a phytochemical compound sulfoxide,. a derivative of the amino acid cysteine, belonging to the class of sulfur compounds, found abundantly in fresh garlic and onion.

In the urgency to find a natural and potential compound for the treatment of diseases associated with inflammation, researchers examined the active component is alliin (S-allyl cysteine sulfoxide) anti-inflammatory activity.

Before incubated with alliin, lipopolysaccharide- (LPS-) stimulated 3T3-L1 adipocytes showed a significant increase in proteins involved in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-6, MCP-1, and Egr-1 in 3T3-L1 adipocytes exposed to 100 ng/mL LPS for 1 hour.

According to the tested assay in lipopolysaccharide- (LPS-) stimulated 3T3-L1 adipocytes incubated for 24 h with 100 μmol/L alliin, the bioactive compound inhibited such increase.

Furthermore, the overexpression of the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 associated with cell differentiation, including cell death caused by LPS-induced inflammation in adipocytes, decreased following alliin treatment.

Additionally, alliin prevented the expression of inflammation in facilitating the alternation of cell DNA by modulating the gene expressions involved in immune response such as tumor suppressive genes, and inhibiting the genes related to cancer.

Dr. Saray Quintero-Fabián, the lead scientist wrote, " The present results have shown that alliincano suppress the LPS inflammatory signals by generating an anti-inflammatory gene expression profile and by modifying adipocyte metabolic profile".

Taken altogether, alliin may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of diseases associated with inflammation, depending on the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of alliin in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Phytochemical 3,3'-Diindolylmethane Exerts #Apoptosis and Anti-CellularProliferation Against the #BladderCancerCells, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a bioactive ingredient for the treatment of bladder cancer with no side effects, according to studies.

Bladder cancer is a medical and chronic condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the bladder tissues.

Most cases of bladder cancer begin in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the bladder tissue before penetrating into the deeper layers of the bladder.

There are three types of bladder cancer classified depending on their origin.
* Transitional cell carcinoma
Transitional cell carcinoma starts in the innermost tissue layer of the bladder which can change shape and stretch without breaking apart. In other words, they are able to stretch when the bladder is full and shrink when it is emptied.

More than 90 percent of bladder cancers begin in the transitional cells
* Squamous cell carcinoma
Cancer begins in squamous cells found in the tissues of the surface of the bladder, caused by long-term infection or irritation.

About 8 percent of people with bladder cancers begin with squamous cells.

* Adenocarcinoma
The cancer is originated from the glandular tissue of the bladder, including the surface layer of skin, glands, and a variety of other tissue, due to long-term irritation and inflammation.

Only 2 percent of people with the condition have a third bladder cancer type.

Regardless of the type of cancer originated, bladder cancer shares the general symptoms of other types of cancer accompanied by specific symptoms such as bladder spasms, blood in urine, frequent urination, pain or burning sensation during urination, pain in the lower back and/or abdomen, inability to urinate, urinary urgency, reduced bladder capacity, and difficulty in urination.

If you have some of the aforementioned symptoms, please make sure that you talk to your doctor to rule out the possibility of b bladder cancer.

Out of many risk factors associated with the onset of the diseases, smoking has been associated with most patients.

Dr. Neal D Freedman, wrote, "...the population attributable risk of bladder cancer for tobacco smoking is 50–65% in men and 20–30% in women and that current cigarette smoking triples bladder cancer risk relative to never smoking".

And, "Over the last 30 years, incidence rates have remained stable in the United States (men: 123.8/100,000 person-years to 142.2/100,000 person-years; women: 32.5/100,000 person-years to 33.2/100,000 person-years), yet changing smoking prevalence and cigarette composition warrant revisiting risk estimates for smoking and bladder cancer in more recent data".

In other words, if you are a smoker, your risk of bladder cancer is substantially higher compared to never smoking individuals.

In finding a natural ingredient for the treatment of bladder cancer, researchers investigated the antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory potential effects of diindolylmethane (DIM) and lupeol on experimental bladder cancer.

The study included 60 healthy male Wistar rats who were selected and randomly divided into six groups, with 10 rats in each group.
* Group I: control.

* Group II: N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxy butyl) nitrosamine (BBN; 150 mg/gavage/twice a week) for 8 weeks, and then they were given 100 ppm concentrations of dimethyl arsenic acid (DMA) in the drinking water for 28 weeks.

* Group III: BBN + DMA + DIM (5 mg/kg body weight (b.w.)/day) treatment was started after BBN treatment, and it was orally administered for 28 weeks)

* Group IV: BBN + DMA + lupeol (50 mg/kg b.w./day) treatment was started after BBN treatment, and it was orally administered for 28 weeks); and

* Groups V and VI: DIM and lupeol treatment alone for 36 weeks

On the final day of the experiment, DIM and lupeol treatment showed the inhibition of tumor growth in the bladder by histopathological confirmations and increased the expression of a protein associated with tumor suppression.

According to the Western blot analysis, the inhibition of bladder cancer also was accompanied by decreasing the production of proinflammatory cytokines.

Furthermore, DIM and lupeol treatment significantly decreased the levels of an enzyme associated with a mediator of tumor repopulation (Cox-2) in bladder tissue samples and NMP 22 in urine samples.

Moreover, in order to reveal more information on DIM anti-bladder cancer properties, researchers to investigate the apoptotic properties of Diindolylmethane (DIM) and Lupeol on N-Butyl-N-(4-hydroxy butyl) Nitrosamine (BBN) initiated and Dimethylarsinic Acid (DMA) in the promotion of urinary bladder cancer.

The experiment included 60 male Wistar rats divided into 6 groups. Group I: Control. Group II: Rats experimentally developed bladder carcinogenesis with BBN and DMA. Group III and IV: DIM and lupeol were administered after BBN treatment for 28 weeks. Group V and VI: DIM and lupeol alone treatment for 36 weeks.

During the study, DIM and lupeol induced cancer cell apoptosis and inhibited cell proliferation by activating the stimulation of proteins associated with cell death programming and deactivating the gene associated with cell differentiation and division.

In other words, administration of DIM and lupeol inhibited the progression of bladder cancer, by promoting the expression of apoptotic Bax, caspase-3, and caspase-9 and inhibiting the expression of anti-apoptotic Bcl- 2, PCNA in the urinary bladder of rats.

Dr. Prabhu B, the lead scientist wrote in the final report, "Administration of diindolylmethane and lupeol treatment induces apoptosis and cellular proliferation by its anti-carcinogenic properties. From our results, DIM and lupeol would be the agent or adjunct for the treatment of bladder carcinogenesis".

Taken altogether, 3,3'-Diindolylmethane may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of bladder cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of 3,3'-diindolylmethane in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Curcumin Isolated from #Turmeric Inhibits #DiabeticComplications Through Various Pathologic Conditions, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Diabetes is a chronic medical condition characterized by the inability of the body to use insulin to convert glucose in the bloodstream to energy.
In other words, diabetes is a result of insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate glucose caused by either a reduced number of beta cells in the pancreas or an insulin receptor site clogged up with fat or cholesterol.

Diabetic complications are any diseases associated with hyperglycemia if the blood glucose is not managed properly. Patients with diabetes may induce a number of complications including cardiovascular disease, neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, and foot ulcer.

By managing your blood glucose properly and daily, the risk of diabetic complications can be reduced in diabetics by
*Take your medication as directed.

*Keeping tight control of your blood sugar or managing the blood glucose in the required range

* Eating healthy with moderate exercise to protect your weight, blood pressure and cholesterol. Being overweight, blood pressure and cholesterol are some of the conditions associated with increased risk of diabetes complications.

* Get regular checkups

* Quit smoking

If you are following the aforementioned suggestion, you may do just fine in the prevention of diabetes complications.

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as an anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, and wound healing agent, and for the treatment of flatulence, bloating, appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.
In the urgency to find a potential ingredient for the prevention of diabetic complications, researchers examined the effect of curcumin's plethora of biological and pharmacologic properties associated with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities.
Curcumin protected diabetics by its pleiotropic regulation of redox balance of cell and inflammation

In other words, curcumin exerted diabetic complications by induction of various pathologic conditions, including detoxification and anti-inflammation.

In vivo, curcumin protected the diabetes-induced animal by protecting the micro-vascular function against the onset of coronary microvascular disease.

Dr. Jeenger MK, the lead scientist after taking into account co and confounders, SAID, "The importance of curcumin in addition to the existing therapeutic modalities in diabetic complications".

Taken altogether, turmeric may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of diabetic complications, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Yoga Shows A significant Effect on Fasting Insulin, Fasting Blood Glucose and All Aspects of Lipid Metabolism, Clinical Trials Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Yoga therapy may have a profound effect on improved lipid metabolism, thus reducing the risk of early onset of dyslipidemia, some studies suggested.
Lipid metabolism is a natural process of our body in the breakdown or storage of fats for energy after consuming food.

Yoga, the ancient technique for harmonizing external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been best known to people in the Western world and some parts of Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes research and supported by health advocates.

In a self-as-control study of 36 male healthy volunteers between the age group of 30-58 years assigned to yoga therapy with a validated questionnaire and divided into Vata-Pitta (n = 16) and Pitta-Kapha (n = 20) groups, researchers indicated that

1. Group with Vata-Pitta (V-P) displayed a significant decrease in the levels of TC, LDL (p < 0.001) and a significant increase in HDL (p < 0.01) in compared to While, Pitta-Kapha (P-K) group with a significant decrease in TC (p < 0.001), TG (p < 0.01), LDL (p < 0.001) and VLDL (p < 0.05) levels.
2. ICompared to the P-K group, the levels of baseline levels of TC, TG, and VLDL were lower in the V-P group

The result showed that both yoga interventions have had a positive effect on promoting lipid metabolism but lesser in the Pitta-Kapha group.

Dr. Doddoli S, the lead author said, "Yoga practices can effectively regulate lipid metabolism and total body energy expenditure with reference to specific constitutional type".

Additionally, in a prospective, randomized, interventional controlled trial recruited 90 adolescents aged between 15 and 18 years met the Rotterdam criteria for PCOS assigned to a yoga group that practiced Surya namaskar, asanas, pranayama, and meditation for 1 hour per day each day for 12 weeks and the group practiced conventional physical exercises acted as a control, after taking into account of other confounders, researchers suggested
1. Both groups reported a significant effect on fasting insulin, and fasting blood glucose, but were significantly different in the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance.
2. Yoga group expressed a positive effect in all aspects of lipid metabolism

Further analysis, researchers insisted, "(Yoga is) more effective than conventional physical exercises in improving glucose, lipid, and insulin values, including insulin resistance values, in adolescent girls with PCOS independent of anthropometric changes".

More importantly, in the investigation of yoga therapy in reduced risk lipid peroxidation, scientists postulated that yoga practice decreased oxidative stress through the expression of lower concentrations of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, involving autoxidative alterations of fats and oils.
