#Intake of #Coffee #Caffeine > 300mg/day Reduces Fecundability Among Non-Smokers, According to Studies

By Kyle J. Norton

Compared to herbal medicine, food therapy even takes longer to ease symptoms, depending on the stage of the treatment which directly addresses the cause of the diseases.

Caffeine found in coffee consumption may increase the risk of delayed conception depending on the amount of caffeine intake per day, a renowned European institute study suggested.

Infertility is defined as the inability of a couple to conceive after 12 months of unprotected sexual intercourse or can not carry the pregnancy to full term. It affects over 5 million couples alone in the U. S. and many times more in the world.

Coffee, becoming a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roast beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In a collected retrospectively on the time of unprotected intercourse for the first pregnancy of a randomly selected sample of 3,187 women aged 25-44 years from five European countries (Denmark, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Spain) between August 1991 and February 1993, women drinking more than 500 mg of caffeine per day, showed significantly increased odds ratio (OR) of 1.45, in risk of delay first pregnancy, in compared to women who consumed less than the maximum amounts.

The study also mentioned that fertile women who are smokers and consume over 500mg of caffeine per day are associated with a higher related risk of 1.56 compared to nonsmokers with the same amounts of caffeine intake,

In the first pregnancy, maximum or over maximum amounts of caffeine intake showed an increased time of waiting by 11%.

Other, in examining the retrospective study of 1,430 non-contracepting, parous women interviewed between July 1989 and June 1990 at Fishkill, New York, and Burlington, Vermont. and 2,501 pregnancies since 1980. Women's reported consumption of caffeinated beverages during the first month of pregnancy, range of daily caffeine intake of none, 1-150, 151-300, and > or = 301 mg with women who did not smoke and who consumed no caffeine used as a reference group, we found that women who drank none to 300 mg of caffeine showed a same relative risk of in delay of conception among nonsmokers in compared to a reference group.

Women, who do not smoke, and intake more than 300 mg of caffeine, showed a significantly increased delay conception odd ratio of 2,65.

Dr. Stanton CK, the lead author said, "Fecundability was reduced among nonsmokers who consumed more than 300 mg caffeine daily (fecundability ratio = 0.74, 95% CI 0.59-0.92)".

Interestingly, even though smoking reduced the ratio of delayed conception, but caffeine consumption showed no effects on fecundability among women who smoked.

In support of the above differentiation, the Danish study also indicated that
Non-smoking women with a caffeine intake of less than 300 mg/day compared to nonsmoking women who consumed 300-700 mg/day of caffeine had a fecundability odds ratio (FR) of 0.88 against FR of 0.63 in the higher consumption group.

The findings suggested that women who want to get pregnant should reduce their intake of caffeine to less than 300mg per day.

Numbers of Cup of #Coffee Intake Daily Are Linearly Associated with An Increased Risk of #LungCancer, Researchers Find

By Kyle J. Norton

Bad news for coffee lovers, a recent study suggested that regular coffee consumption may associate with an increased risk of lung cancer.
Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roast beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Lung cancer is a medical condition caused by irregular cell growth in the lung. At the later stage, cancer cells may spread to distant tissues and organs.

Dr. Wang Y, the lead author said, "A linear dose-response relationship exists between coffee consumption and risk of lung cancer".

In the clarified risk of coffee in induced lung cancer, the Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Industry conducted a search in the database of PubMed and Embase, from 1966 to January 2009. In 5 prospective studies and 8 case-control studies involving 5347 lung cancer cases and 104,911 non-cases selected, researchers found that
1. The coffee high amount of intake was associated with a significant positive lung cancer risk
2. Risk of lung cancer increased by 14% for additional 2 cups consumed daily.

Interestingly, prospective studies conducted in America and Japan showed a significantly associated with increased risk of lung cancer in the highest coffee consumption, but borderline significantly associated with decreased risk of lung cancer in non-smokers, compared to studies conducted from other countries.

And people drinking decaffeinated coffee showed a decreased risk of lung cancer in all studies.

Other, in the review of seventeen studies (5 cohort and 12 case-control studies) involving 12 276 cases and 102 516 controls met the predetermined inclusion criterion, extracted from the database of literature, the total risk of coffee intake and lung cancer incidence was 1.17 compared to non-drinkers. Also, compared to non-drinkers, the relative risk of lung cancer was associated with a number of a cup per day consumed,
1. 1.10 (95% CI: 0.92-1.31) for ⩽1 cup per day,
2. 1.10 (95% CI: 0.93-1.30) for 2-3 cups per day and
3. 1.20 (95% CI: 1.02-1.39) for ⩾3 cups per day.

More importantly, Dr. Xie Y, the lead author said, " Significant associations for high coffee intake with increased risk of lung cancer were observed in men (OR=1.41 95% CI: 1.21-1.63), but not in women (OR=1.16, 95% CI: 0.86-1.56), in American (OR=1.34 95% CI: 1.08-1.65) and Asian populations (OR=1.49 95% CI: 1.28-1.74), but not in European populations (OR=1.12, 95% CI: 0.74-1.67), and in smokers (OR=1.24, 95% CI: 1.00-1.54), but not in nonsmokers (OR=0.85, 95% CI: 0.64-1.11)".

Taking it all together, there is no doubt that regular coffee intake in large amounts is associated with an increased risk of lung cancer linearly, particularly in men and smokers.

#Healthyfood #Cranberry Inhibits the Expression of Bacteria that Cause #OralDiseases, Researchers Show

By Kyle J. Norton

Oral health is a process or activity that protects the oral cavity against diseases by regular brushing of the teeth and cleaning between the teeth.

Gingivitis or gingival inflammation is one of the most common conditions of oral inflammation of the gum caused by overexpression of plaques accumulated on your teeth that irritate the gingiva. Over times, the gum of an infected person has become swollen and bleeds easily.

In severe cases, the condition can lead to periodontal disease, inducing tooth decay or loss of the tooth.

Most of the cases of gingivitis are associated with poor hygiene, particularly in people who smoke.
Gingivitis can be reversed by following good oral health habits, including brushing at least twice a day, flossing daily, and getting regular dental checkups.

Other causes of the oral problem are poor diet and hygiene, trauma, stress, alcohol use, and use of illegal substances.

However, chronic diseases also are found to induce poor oral health, including diabetes.

Most common symptoms of gingivitis including swollen gums with dusky red or dark red color and bleeding easily when brush or floss, particularly breath-breath.

According to the statistics provided by the CDC, smoking is an important cause of severe gum disease in the US.

Some researchers suggested that long-term oral infection can place the patients at risk of certain chronic disease.

Dr. Xiaojing Li, and colleagues wrote, "Recently, it has been recognized that oral infection, especially periodontitis, may affect the course and pathogenesis of a number of systemic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, bacterial pneumonia, diabetes mellitus, and low birth weight".

And, "Periodontitis as a major oral infection may affect the host's susceptibility to systemic disease in three ways: by shared risk factors; subgingival biofilms acting as reservoirs of gram-negative bacteria; and the periodontium acting as a reservoir of inflammatory mediators".

Cranberry is an evergreen dwarf shrub, genus Vaccinium, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern America and Southern Asia. Because of its health benefits, cranberry has been cultivated in some parts of the world for commercial profit and used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat wounds, urinary disorders, diarrhea, diabetes, stomach ailments, and liver problems.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of oral disease, researchers examined the effect of cranberry extracts on oral health, including dental caries and protection against periodontitis.

Cranberry fraction enriched in high molecular weight polyphenols from the A non-dialysable extract showed to inhibit cariogenic and periodontal pathogenic bacteria.

Diseases associated with oral inflammatory response and enzymes that degrade the extracellular matrix was also reduced upon the application of cranberry fraction.

Furthermore, according to tested differentiation, Cranberry components found in the extract also inhibited acid production, attachment, and biofilm formation by Streptococcus mutans.

Glucan-binding proteins associated with dental caries pathogen, extracellular enzymes secreted by the cell involved in a bacterial trait, and bacterial hydrophobicity were also affected by cranberry components.

In periodontal diseases, the cranberry fraction also exerted similarly aforementioned effects such as the host inflammatory responses, production, and activity of enzymes.

The findings strongly suggested that cranberry components found in cranberry worked synergistically, for the prevention and/or treatment of oral diseases, particularly in those of high molecular weight bioactive molecules.

Taken altogether, cranberry may be considered a remedy for the promotion of oral health, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Healthyfood #Greentea Inhibits the #ProinflammatroyCytokines That Cause #Gout and #RecurrenceGout, Researchers Say

By Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced onset and treatment of gout and recurrent gout, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

Gout is a condition of recurrently inflammatory arthritis characterized by a red, tender, hot, and swollen joint caused by overexpression of purine in the body.

According to the study, green tea and its bioactive compound Epigallo catechin-O-gallate (EGCG) may be considered as a putative curative drug for various diseases of gout, through its properties in reduced vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) in response to vascular endothelial growth factor signal (VGFG) for the formation of gout through the expression of levels of uric acid.

The study also emphasized that green tea with high levels of antioxidants and function in stimulated production of natural antioxidants in the body may also be used to reduce symptoms of recurrently inflammatory arthritis and inflammatory arthritis such as gout, through inhibiting the oxidative stress in induced production of inflammatory cytokines to facilitate symptoms of inflammation.

The above differentiation was supported by the study of the effect of EGCG on monosodium urate monohydrate (MSU)-induced inflammation and cryopyrin (NLRP3 inflammasome) activation in C57BL/6 mice received a subcutaneous injection or oral gavage of EGCG before the intraperitoneal injection of MSU.

Truly, the application of green tea EGCG decreased the expression of gouty arthritis caused by the injection of MSU-induced neutrophil infiltration with the function to initiate inflammation in the acute phase of infection and IL-1β secretion, in response and resistance to pathogens, but can also exacerbate damage during chronic disease and acute tissue injury.

The injection of green EGCG also decreased MSU-triggered neutrophil cytosolic factor 1, in the activated inflammatory response to optimize healing and reduce injury to the body but the proteins have been found to cause severe damage to the infectious site and NLRP3 protein expression in initiated systematic inflammatory expression.

Moreover, the effect of green tea in protection against gout occurrence also limited pro-inflammatory mediator secretion interleukin 1 beta (IL1β), a mediator of inflammation, in response to acute-phase infection, interleukin 6 (IL-6) produced by large amounts at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 in regulated monocytes, memory T cells, and dendritic cells to the sites of inflammation, and serum amyloid A, the serum was found to increase substantially in patients of chronic inflammatory disease. without limiting the function of the mediators in protecting the infectious site against pathogens invasion.

More profoundly, the efficacy of green tea in reduced recurrent gout also extended to suppress NLRP3 inflammasome in stimulated caspase-1 in the promoted secretion of other proinflammatory cytokines activation.

Dr. Jhang JJ, the lead author said, "EGCG treatment ameliorates MSU-induced inflammation, suggesting that EGCG exerts anti-inflammatory effect against MSU-induced acute gout attack."

In addition, to the above study, the University of Pretoria suggested that polyphenols extracted from green tea also exhibited an antioxidant effect in reduced pronounce of oxidative stress by their antioxidant properties.

Catechin (C) (Ki = 303.95, uncompetitive), epicatechin (EC) (Ki = 20.48, mixed), epigallocatechin (EGC) (Ki = 10.66, mixed), epicatechin gallate (ECG) (Ki = 2.86, mixed) and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg) (Ki = 0.76, competitive) were found to have similar efficacy as allopurinol (Ki = 0.30, mixed), the drug used to inhibit the levels of xanthine oxidase (XO) in gout patients, through reduced reactive oxygen species in initiated oxidative stress in induction of inflammatory symptoms.

Taken together, green tea and its bioactive polyphenols may be considered a functional food for reduced onset and combined with conventional medicine for the treatment of gout without inducing any adverse effects.

Maternal High #Caffeine intake and Lack of #Folate Supplementation are Associated with An Increased Risk of #InfantSpinaBifida

By Kyle J. Norton

Compared to herbal medicine, food therapy even takes longer to ease symptoms, depending on the stages of the treatment which directly address the cause of the disease.

Epidemiological studies do not agree that coffee and coffee caffeine are associated with the risk of birth defects of spina bifida.

Spina bifida is a congenitally physical abnormality characterized by the incomplete closing of the backbone membranes around the spinal cord.

Coffee, second to green tea, is a popular, and beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, made from roasted beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

According to the Slone Epidemiology Center at Boston University, in the study of caffeine consumption by women during the first month of pregnancy. Between 1988-2012, caffeine intake (<1, 1, and ≥2 cups/day) was not likely associated with an increased risk of Spina bifida.

The researchers also suggested that other factors such as inadequate folic acid recommended at 400 μg/day in the first month of pregnancy may also affect the outcome of the study assessed by the returned questionnaire of mothers with child Spina bifida

Other, in the study of 133 case mothers and 273 control women providing information on periconceptional risk factors, using data from a case-control interview study carried out at the G. Gaslini Children's Hospital, Genoa, from 2000 to 2008, researchers found that there are numbers of the mechanism involved in the expression of infant Spina bifida. High caffeine intake and lack of folate supplementation at any time of pregnancy may have some risks in induced SB, but disturbed folate/homocysteine metabolism would be the main factor.

In animal studies, caffeine was considered a reduced risk factor in exhibited significant effects on the incidence of Spina bifida.

But in a human observation study, caffeine consumption, during the year before pregnancy for 768 mothers of infants with NTDs and 4143 mothers of infants without birth defects between 1997 to 2002, was associated with an increased risk of birth defect of SB.

Dr. Schmidt RJ, the lead author said, "Positive associations were observed between spina bifida and total caffeine consumption (OR 1.4; 95% CI: 1.1-1.9)" and "Additional studies should confirm whether women who consume caffeine are at increased risk for pregnancies complicated by NTDs".

The information findings suggested that caffeine intake may associate with some risks in the developed fetus spina bifida, but the results only came from observation studies, therefore, a human trial with a large number size is necessary to clarify these contradictions.

#Healthyfood #Chickpeas Show a Significant Effecct on #Weightloss and #MetabolicDisorders, According to Researchers

By Kyle J. Norton

Chickpeas may have a profound effect on activated gut microbiota host energy homeostasis in modulating the risk of metabolic syndrome, some studies suggested.

Garbanzo bean also known as chickpea is an edible legume of genus Cicer and the family Fabaceae, high in protein and minerals. It is one of the earliest cultivated vegetables, native to the Middle East.

Metabolic syndrome is a set of conditions, including high blood pressure and blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels which may contribute to the onset of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The effect of chickpeas on reducing the risk of metabolic syndrome has been investigated extensively through several aspects and mechanisms.

α-galactooligosaccharides (α-GOS) isolated from fermentable soluble fibers extracted from chickpeas on high-fat-diet (HFD)-induced metabolic syndrome and gut bacterial dysbiosis in animal model, displayed a significant improvement of parameters that have a direct influence on the initiate risk of CVD, including decreased levels of blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, glycated serum protein, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol of mice in compared to control after 4 weeks of experiment.

Injection of α-galactooligosaccharides (α-GOS) showed a restrictive activity in reduced high-fat-diet (HFD)-induced metabolic syndrome in inhibited the content of all bacteria, such as Bacteroides in breaking down food and producing valuable nutrients and energy that the body needs and Lactobacillus with function in glucose metabolism and protect against overgrowth of pathogens in the digestive tract.

This illustration indicated that α-galactooligosaccharides (α-GOS) have the potential used as a probiotic to improve digestive health by balancing the levels of gut bacteria through colonic fermentation.

Furthermore, the extract also induced the production of short-chain fatty acids such as propionic acid with a function in reduced acidity, and butyric acids with a function in reduced inflammation and improve overall gastrointestinal health through colonic bacterial fermentation.

Short-chain fatty acids have been extensively promoted as prebiotics and probiotics with an aim at improving colonic and systemic health.

The finding information suggested that α-galactooligosaccharides (α-GOS) isolated from fermentable soluble fibers extracted from chickpeas may affect the metabolic disorders and gut bacterial ecosystem positively.

Additionally, 14 days of 2 single-center, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trials, 88 overweight adults [50% men and 50% women; 18-60 y old; body mass index (in kg/m(2)): 25-28] were supplemented for 14 d with tea contained α-GOSs with different α-GOS dosages (6, 12, or 18 g α-GOSs/d), formulas (12 g α-GOSs/d with >80% of molecules with a degree of polymerization of 2, 3, or 4), or a control substance (glucose syrup), also suggested that regardless to the composition, tea contained α-GOSs treatment group demonstrated a significant in reduced appetite, reduced energy intake during lunch and dinner in compared to control.

In other words, the injection of α-GOSs daily and regularly may have a long-term effect in induced weight loss and mitigated metabolic disorders.

Similarly, the investigation of the effects of frequent consumption (five cups/week over 8 weeks) of pulses (yellow peas, chickpeas, navy beans, and lentils), compared with counseling to reduce energy intake by 2093 kJ/d (500 kcal/d), on risk factors of the MetSyn in two groups (nineteen and twenty-one subjects, respectively) of overweight or obese (mean BMI 32·8 kg/m2) adults
2017], also found that at the end of the experiment, both diets expressed a reduction in energy intake, waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, glycosylated Hb (HbA1c) and glucose AUC and homeostasis model of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) following a 75 g oral glucose load at weeks 1 and 8 with levels of HDL and C-peptide increased by 4·5 and 12·3 %, respectively in compared to decreased by 0·8 and 7·6 %, respectively, in the energy-restricted group.

C-peptide is a proinsulin molecule produced by the beta cells in the pancreas.

Interestingly, insulin area under the curve was found to decrease in both females and males on the energy-restricted diet by 24·2 and 4·8 %, respectively, but on the pulse diet, it decreased by 13·9 % in females and increased by 27·3 % in males.

After taking into account another confounder, Dr.Mollard RC, the lead author said, "frequent consumption of pulses,...reduced risk factors of the metabolic syndrome and these effects were equivalent, and in some instances stronger, than counseling for dietary energy reduction".

Taken together, the information findings, suggested that chickpeas with abundant fibers with a direct effect on improved gut health and reduce high blood pressure, high blood sugar, abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels, and promote weight loss through decreased appetite may be considered functional food in ameliorated risk of metabolic syndrome, thus lowering the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

#Healthyfood #CollardGreens Inhibit the Parameters That Increase the Risk of Obesity in Vivos, Researchers Find

By Kyle J. Norton

Obesity is a chronic condition characterized by excess body fat accumulated over time. People with a BMI of over 30 is considered obese.

Similarly, overweight is a condition of excess body weight relative to height. People with a BMI ranged from 25 to 29.9 is careonsidered overweight.

According to the statistics, 68% of the American population is either overweight or obese. Obesity has been found to induce adverse effects in country'snearly every system of the human body, leading to increased risk of numerous diseases, including diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Furthermore, the rate of obesity in the US and Canada continues to climb at an alarming rate, leading to significant burdens to the country economy and health care system.

Epidemiologically, the most common symptoms of obesity are breathlessness, increased sweating, inability to cope with physical activity, feeling very tired every day, back and joint pains, low confidence, and self-esteem and feeling isolation

According to the CDC, the most common complications associated with obesity are coronary heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, cancer of breast, colon, endometrial, gallbladder, kidney, and liver and sleep apnea.

Currently, there is no effective treatment for reducing the disease. However, some researchers suggested powerful environmental factors that influence eating and physical activity may be the best in combating obesity.

Bariatric surgery is used as an option for management that causes a reduction in the amount of food you are or a reduction in the absorption of calories from the food you eat, or both.

The surgery has been proposed for patients with extreme obesity (BMI of 40 or higher) due to weight-induced a serious weight-related health problem, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

Furthermore, this type of surgery has posed a serious risk to many patients if the commitment to making lifelong changes in eating and exercise habits cannot be followed through.

Collard Green is a species of Brassica Oleracea, belongings to the family Brassicaceae with unknown origin. Today, the plant is cultivated commercially for its thick, slightly bitter edible leaves.

To find a natural food for the prevention and treatment of obesity, researchers examined the effect of sulforaphane found abundantly in collard greens.

In a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity in C57BL/6N mice that were fed a normal diet (ND), HFD or HFD plus 0.1% sulforaphane (SFN) for 6 weeks, researchers found that SFN administration not only attenuated HFD-induced visceral adiposity that stored around several important internal organs such as the liver, pancreas and intestines, adipocyte hypertrophy associated with an enlargement of adipose tissue but also ameliorated fat accumulation in the liver.

Furthermore, SFN decreased the elevated levels of serum total cholesterol and leptin, and liver triglyceride in HFD-SFN-fed mice compared to HFD-fed mice.

SFN also inhibited the expression of a gene associated with the promotion of inflammation in the adipose tissue of HFD-SFN mice and increased the adiponectin function in regulating glucose levels and fatty acid breakdown.

Moreover, reductase expression associated with the production of cholesterol was decreased and an antibody associated with fatty acid utilization was increased in the lycopene treatment group compared with HFD-fed mice.

Taken altogether, collard green processed abundantly SFN may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of obesity, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of SFN in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.
