According to the MVP Samaj's College of Pharmacy, in the animal model of PD induced by administration of reserpine (5 mg/kg/day, i.p for 5 consecutive days), haloperidol (1 mg/kg, i.p.), and tacrine (2.5 mg/kg, i.p.), rats fed with methanolic extract of Beta vulgaris (MEBV)at doses of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg showed a significantly reduced the intensity of muscular rigidity, duration of catalepsy, akinesia, the number of tremors, dis-proportionally.

Concentrations of 200, and 300 mg/kg extract exhibited the most effects in compared dose of 100mg/kg.

Furthermore, at the higher doses, treatment animals also exerted an improvement in locomotor functioning and grip strength analyzed by MEBV.

The study also indicated that the efficacy of beet methanolic extract may be attributed to the increase of antioxidants in inhibiting the production of lipid peroxidation (LPO), an important process in causing cell dysfunction in PD patients.

Not only that, but injection of the extract also restored the defensive antioxidant enzymes SOD and CAT in the rat brain.

Dr. The lead author said, "The mechanism of protection may be due to augmentation of cellular antioxidants".

Other researchers also suggested that intake of beet juice may improve the blood circulation of the brain's white matter of the frontal lobes associated with the development of dementia and other cognitive conditions, including the risk of PD and PD progression in older adults.


Dr. Gary Miller,, the lead author of this study said, "I think these results are consistent and encouraging - that a good diet consisting of a lot of fruits and vegetables can contribute to overall good health".

Collectively, the evidence suggested that beet methanolic extract or nitrate-rich beet juice may have a profound effect on the reduced prevalence of early-onset and progression of Parkinson's disease (PD) and may be considered a functional food. for these purposes.

Breast cancer is a medical and chronic condition caused by cell growth irregularly and uncontrollably in the breast tissue. At the early stage, in most cases, breast cancer starts in the cells of the inner lining tissue of milk ducts (Ductal carcinoma) or the lobules (Lobular carcinoma) that supply the ducts with milk.

Furthermore, indole-3-carbinol cyclic tetrameric derivative CTet induces autophagy and inhibits breast cancer cell proliferation, researchers at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo conducted an investigation to examine the antitumoral activity of a mixture of tri- and tetrameric cyclic I3C derivatives (CTr/CTet) both in vitro (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell lines.

Observation of the application on the tested cancer cell line suggested CTr/CTet mixture inhibits breast cancer cell proliferation (IC50 = 1.3 and 1.6 μg/ml in MCF-7 and MDAMB- 231, respectively) inducing the G0/1 cell cycle phase accumulation.

Taken altogether, Indole-3-carbinol processed apoptotic and antiproliferative activity can be considered a functional supplement for the prevention and combined with primary medicine for the treatment of breast cancer.

However, further data collection large example size, and multi-center studies performed with human consumption of the phytochemical during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of Indole-3-carbinol anti-breast cancer possibilities.

Polysulfides are phytochemicals in a class of chemical compounds containing chains of sulfur atoms, belonging to the group ofOrganosulfides found abundantly in the oxidized product, including beer, wine, whiskey, garlic oil, etc.

Skin cancer is a medical condition of uncontrolled growth of abnormal skin cells and is often detected at an early stage.

In skin cancer progression, diallyl trisulfide (DATS) is more potent than mono- and disulfides against skin cancer, through inhibited cell growth of human melanoma A375 cells and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) cells by increasing the levels of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and DNA damage and by inducing G2/M arrest, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and mitochondria-mediated apoptosis(1).

The study by the National Taiwan University, also showed that Diallyl sulfide (DAS), diallyl disulfide (DADS), and diallyl trisulfide (DATS), extracted from crushed garlic, inhibited skin cancer cell growth through involvement in G(2)/M arrest and apoptosis via activation of the p53 pathway in response to the oxidative DNA damage(2).

Bacterial infection is the inflammation caused by the multiplication of bacteria after entering the body successfully.

The process of infection can be divided into many stages. However, most bacteria that try to invade the body were killed in the acute phase of infection by the immune system response through the production of the pro-inflammatory cytokines stimulated by the white blood cell macrophages.

According to the statistic provided by the CDC, each year in the U.S., at least 2 million people get an antibiotic-resistant infection, and at least 23,000 people die due to bacterial infectious disease.

Most people do not experience any symptoms until the microbe multiplies to the peak in its population.

Acute infection in most cases is recovered within a week or two. However, if the immune function cannot destroy all the bacteria within 3 to 8 weeks, it will compromise, leading to chronic low-grade inflammatory diseases.

Cancer is a class of diseases associated with irregular cell growth in the tissue of a specific organ.
Most cases of invasive cancer can spread to other organs in the body via lymph or blood.

According to the statistics provided by the Cancer Institute, between n 2011–2015, the number of new cases of cancer is 439.2 per 100,000 men and women per year (based on 2011–2015 cases).

The number of cancer deaths (cancer mortality) is 163.5 per 100,000 men and women per year.


Under normal circumstances, cell growth is a natural process without even notice, every day millions of cells grow to replace millions of dead cells and to keep our body in balance and healthy.

Sometimes, acceleration of cell growth is necessary to prevent further damage to the body organ, such as cuts, injuries, etc., but after fulfilling their purposes, the growth of cells is back to a normal rate again due to our body growth inhibitors. Unfortunately, skin cells sometimes overgrow while healing, leading to scars to the skin.

In cancer cells, due to the alternation of DNA, can grow indefinitely.

Cancer cell metastasis is the process in which cancer cells break away from the primary site and travel through the blood or fluid circulation and form new tumors (metastatic tumors) in other parts of the body, similar to those of primary cancer.

In the urgency to find a natural ingredient for the inhibition of cancer cell metastasis, researchers examined the apo-10'-lycopenoic acid (ALA), a derivative of lycopene through cleavage by carotene-9',10'-oxygenase, on tumor progression and metastasis in both liver and lung cancer animal models.

According to the tested assays, ALA showed significant activity in a dose-dependent manner in inhibiting migration and invasion of liver and lung cancer cells (HuH7 and A549).


In other words, ALA constrained lung cancer cells from the induction of mechanisms associated with cancer cell spreading.

Furthermore, in HuH7 and immortalized lung BEAS-2B cells, ALA suppresses the function of remodeling actin in stimulating cancer cell mobility and membrane formation.

More importantly, ALA also inhibited both HuH7 and A549 cells. proliferation and migration by suppressing the genes associated with angiogenesis.

Moreover, according to the tested assays, ALA also decreased the expression of enzyme which plays a pivotal role in cell migration during physiological and pathological processes.

In human THE-2 liver cells, ALA in a dose-dependently increased the mRNA expression and protein levels of peroxisome proliferator‑activated receptor‑γ (PPARγ) involved in controlling angiogenesis, tumor progression, and metastasis.

Based on the findings, Dr. Cheng J., the lead scientist wrote, "ALA inhibits cancer cell motility and angiogenesis and induces PPARγ expression, which could be one of the potential mechanisms for ALA protecting against tumor progression".

Taken altogether, phytochemical lycopene may be considered a supplement for the prevention of cancer cell metastasis, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of lycopene in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.
