#Rapeseed Oil Inhibits the Onset of Metabolic Syndrome, Researchers Find

By Kyle J. Norton

A dietary pattern is the measurement of the quantity, variety, or combination of different foods and beverages in a diet, as well as the frequency of the foods, that are habitually consumed.

The most common dietary patterns are
* The traditional diet, Wikipedia wrote, "Traditional foods are foods and dishes that are passed through generations or which have been consumed many generations. Traditional foods and dishes are traditional in nature, and may have a historic precedent in a national dish, regional cuisine, or local cuisine".

* The Western diet is a standard American diet (SAD) associated with high intakes of red meat, processed meat, pre-packaged and refined foods, fried foods, high-fat dairy products, and high salt, and sugar. foods.

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions associated with the increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The health problems found in the group include too much fat around the waist, elevated blood pressure, high triglycerides, elevated blood sugar, and low HDL cholesterol.

In other words, if you have 3 of the conditions in the group, your risk of CVD and diabetes are increased substantially compared to those who have less.

According to the statistics, approximately 30% of people in the US are living with metabolic syndrome.

Believe it or not, among US adults aged 18 years or older, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome rose by more than 35% from 1988–1994 to 2007–2012, increasing from 25.3% to 34.2%.

Rapeseed, also known as rape, or oilseed rape, is a member of the family Brassicaceae (mustard or cabbage family), cultivated in suitable climate regions for its oil-rich seed for commercial profits.

In finding a potential compound for the prevention of heart disease, researchers at the University of Applied Sciences investigated the effects of a hypo energetic diet with low energy density (ED) enriched in rapeseed oil derived n-3 fatty acid α-linolenic acid (ALA), in patients with metabolic syndrome.

The human trial included eighty-one patients with metabolic syndrome randomly assigned to receive either rapeseed oil derived with high MUFA content and an ALA intake of 3.5 g/d on body weight or olive oil diet rich in MUFA but with a low ALA content.

According to the results, after a 6-month dietary intervention, the rapeseed oil and olive oil groups showed a significant in reduced body weight and metabolic factors associated with cardiovascular risk.

In other words, intervention groups with rapeseed oil not only significantly decrease the systolic blood pressure, but also reduce total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol, and insulin levels in patients with metabolic syndrome.

More interestingly, serum triglycerides (TAG) associated with cardiovascular and nonfatty liver disease risk factors were significantly reduced only in the high ALA intake, compared to no effect on the low ALA group.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "Our dietary food pattern with a low ED and high intakes of MUFA and ALA may be a practical approach for long-term dietary treatment in patients with the metabolic syndrome".

Taken altogether, rapeseed oil may be considered supplement for the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#Healthyfood #WhiteButtonMushroom Suppresses the Proliferation of #ColonCancer, Scientists Say

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found an edible mushroom with the potential in reducing risk and treatment of colon cancer, some scientists suggested.

Primary colon cancer is a medical condition characterized the cell growth regularly that starts on the surface of the inner lining tissue of the colon.

After proliferating to the advanced stage, the cancerous cells can dispatch from the original site to infect other healthy tissue and organs far the way from the colon.

The exact causes of colon cancer are unknown. As of today, researchers still wonder, why people with the same health condition, family history, and diet, some are susceptible to the onset of the disease while others do not.

According to the statistic, colorectal cancer(cancer that starts in the colon or rectum) is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women combined in the United States. About 71% of cases arise in the colon and about 29% in the rectum.

Dr. Milly Ryan-Harshman, in the study of diet and colorectal cancer, suggested, "Whether red meat is a culprit in causing CRC remains unanswered, although any effect it might have is likely moderate and related to processing or cooking"

"The effect of dietary fiber on the risk of CRC has also been difficult to determine because fiber intake is generally low. Evidence that folic acid, calcium, and vitamin D reduce the risk of CRC is stronger"

" In particular, recent research indicates that calcium and vitamin D might act together, rather than separately, to reduce the risk of colorectal adenomas. There might also be an interaction between low folate levels and high alcohol consumption and CRC".

These results indicated a reduced intake of red meat, increase intake of nutrients from the fruits and vegetable including folic calcium and vitamin D are associated with the substantially reduced risk of colon cancer.

However, in the study conducted by the team led by Dr. Dana-Farber, Cancer Center oncologist Jeffrey Meyerhardt, MD appeared in the Aug. 15 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Western diet not only associated with colon cancer risk but also elevate the risk of recurrent colon cancer in colon cancer patients.

Mushroom is a standard name for white button mushroom, the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus produced above ground on soil or on its food source,

It is the genus A. Muscaria and belongs to the family Amanitaceae and has been cultivated in many cultures all over the world for food and health benefits.

Chemical constituents of white button mushrooms include
Astraodorol, Psilocybin, Lectin, adustin, ribonuclease, nicotine, 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-6-methylbenzoic acid, orsellinic acid, melleolide, ergosterol, genistein, daidzein, daucosterol, genistin, uracil and D-mannitol(a).

Intake of dietary supplementation with Se-enriched white button mushroom can reduce the production of antioxidants produced by the colon tumor by up-regulating the integrity of cell mRNA expression levels.

Se-enriched white button mushroom inhibited the colon cancer cell by stimulating the production of GPx-1 and 2 and anti-antioxidant enzyme activity.

Selenise white button mushroom can positively increase GPx-1 and GPx-2 gene expression and GPx-1 enzyme activity in rat colon cells in the protection of cell DNA alternation due to overexpression free radicals, Dr. Maseko T, the leader in the team at The University of Melbourne suggested at the final report.

The study was published in the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM).

Furthermore, in the reassessment of the 2 epidemiological studies that demonstrated an inverse correlation between mushroom intake and the risk of cancer, researchers launched an investigation to evaluate whether white button mushroom affects the growth of breast and colon cancer cells.

Application of white button mushroom suppressed proliferation of colon cancer (HT-29, HCT-116) cells, without affecting the proliferation of epithelial mammary MCF-10A and normal colon FHC cells.

The inhibition of cell proliferation by the mushroom was associated with the cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase in HT-29 cells.

White button mushroom was also found to the up-regulated expression of p21 in the induction of apoptosis and inhibited Rb phosphorylation, a tumor suppressor protein in HT-29 cells,

The finding confirmed the results from the 2 epidemiological studies that white button mushroom process anti-colon cancer possibility.

Taken all together, dietary white button mushroom intake daily and regularly may have a significant effect in the prevention of colon and combined with the primary therapy in the treatment of colon cancer

#Herbal #Ashwagandha in the Promotion of Body Mass and Strength in Resistance Training Exercise, Researchers Suggest

By Kyle J. Norton

Body mass calculated by the body mass index (BMI), is a value derived from the mass (weight) and height of a person.
The BMI index = weight (kg)/ height (m2)

Weight loss is a process that intentionally reduces the total body mass, through the decrease of fluid, body fat or adipose tissue, or lean mass.

Obesity is a medical condition of excess body fat accumulated over time, while overweight is a condition of excess body weight relative to height.

According to the Body Mass Index(BMI), a BMI between 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight, while a BMI of over 30 is an indication of obesity. According to the statistic, 68% of the American population is either overweight or obese.

In North America, over 68% of the US population is either overweight or obese.

Weight loss products are a 66 billion business in the US, according to the statistic provided by the Marketdata LLC research firm. And the business continues to grow at a rapid rate.

Resistance training is a type of exercise associated with the improvement of muscular strength and endurance used most in professional athletics.

The exercise is emphasized to move the limbs against resistance provided by your body weight, gravity, bands, weighted bars, or dumbbells.

Today, most resistance training exercise is performed against exercise machines.

Body strength on the resistance training exercise is a type of workout that focuses on the entire body to build lean muscle tissue and strength.

Ashwagandha also known as Withania somnifera is a nightshade plant in the genus of Withania, belonging to the family Solanaceae, native to the dry parts of India, North Africa, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean.

The herbal medicine has been considered as Indian ginseng and used in Ayurvedic medicine for over 3000 years to treat tumors and tubercular glands, carbuncles, memory loss, and ulcers and considered an anti-stress, cognition-facilitating, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging herbal medicine.

On finding a potent compound for enhancing the results of resistance training, researchers examined the effects of ashwagandha root extract consumption on muscle mass and strength in healthy young men engaged in resistance training.

The randomized, prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study included 57 young male subjects (18-50 years old) with little experience in resistance randomized into treatment (29 subjects) consumed 300 mg of ashwagandha root extract twice daily and placebo (28 subjects) groups consumed starch for 8 weeks.

Compared to the placebo subjects, the group treated with ashwagandha had significantly greater increases in muscle strength on the bench-press exercise and the leg-extension exercise and significantly greater muscle size increase in the arms.

Furthermore, the Ashwagandha treatment group also showed a significant increase in muscle size in the chest.

Furthermore, the Ashwagandha treatment group also reduced the risk of exercise-induced muscle damage by stabilizing the serum creatine kinase and increasing the production of testosterone levels. compared to the control.

Most importantly, compared to the control, the Ashwagandha treatment group demonstrated a significantly more significant decrease in body fat percentage.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "Ashwagandha supplementation is associated with significant increases in muscle mass and strength and suggests that ashwagandha supplementation may be useful in conjunction with a resistance training program".

Taken altogether, Ashwagandha may be considered a functional herb that increases body mass and strength in resistance training, pending the result of a larger sample size and multicenter study

3,3'-#Diindolylmethane, the Antioxidant Kills #BladderCancer Cells in Vitro and Vivo, Researchers Suggest

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a bioactive ingredient for the treatment of bladder cancer with no side effects, according to studies.

Bladder cancer is a medical and chronic condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the bladder tissues.

Most cases of bladder cancer begin in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the bladder tissue before penetrating into the deeper layers of the bladder.

There are three types of bladder cancer classified depending on their origin.
* Transitional cell carcinoma
Transitional cell carcinoma starts in the innermost tissue layer of the bladder which can change shape and stretch without breaking apart. In other words, they are able to stretch when the bladder is full and shrink when it is emptied.

More than 90 percent of bladder cancers begin in the transitional cells

* Squamous cell carcinoma
Cancer begins in squamous cells found in the tissues of the surface of the bladder, caused by long-term infection or irritation.

About 8 percent of people with bladder cancers begin with squamous cells.

* Adenocarcinoma
The cancer is originated from the glandular tissue of the bladder, including the surface layer of skin, glands, and a variety of other tissue, due to long-term irritation and inflammation.

Only 2 percent of people with the condition have a third bladder cancer type.

Regardless of the type of cancer originated, bladder cancer shares the general symptoms of other types of cancer accompanied by specific symptoms such as bladder spasms, blood in urine, frequent urination, pain or burning sensation during urination, pain in the lower back and/or abdomen, inability to urinate, urinary urgency, reduced bladder capacity, and difficulty in urination.

If you have some of the aforementioned symptoms, please make sure that you talk to your doctor to rule out the possibility of b bladder cancer.

Out of many risk factors associated with the onset of the diseases, smoking has been associated with most patients.

Dr. Neal D Freedman, wrote, "...the population attributable risk of bladder cancer for tobacco smoking is 50–65% in men and 20–30% in women and that current cigarette smoking triples bladder cancer risk relative to never smoking".

And, "Over the last 30 years, incidence rates have remained stable in the United States (men: 123.8/100,000 person-years to 142.2/100,000 person-years; women: 32.5/100,000 person-years to 33.2/100,000 person-years), yet changing smoking prevalence and cigarette composition warrant revisiting risk estimates for smoking and bladder cancer in more recent data".

In other words, if you are a smoker, your risk of bladder cancer is substantially higher compared to never smoking individuals.

In finding a natural ingredient for the treatment of bladder cancer, researchers investigated the antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory potential effects of diindolylmethane (DIM) and lupeol on experimental bladder cancer.

The study included 60 healthy male Wistar rats who were selected and randomly divided into six groups, with 10 rats in each group.
* Group I: control.

* Group II: N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxy butyl) nitrosamine (BBN; 150 mg/gavage/twice a week) for 8 weeks, and then they were given 100 ppm concentrations of dimethyl arsenic acid (DMA) in the drinking water for 28 weeks.

* Group III: BBN + DMA + DIM (5 mg/kg body weight (b.w.)/day) treatment was started after BBN treatment, and it was orally administered for 28 weeks)

* Group IV: BBN + DMA + lupeol (50 mg/kg b.w./day) treatment was started after BBN treatment, and it was orally administered for 28 weeks); and

* Groups V and VI: DIM and lupeol treatment alone for 36 weeks

On the final day of the experiment, DIM and lupeol treatment showed the inhibition of tumor growth in the bladder by histopathological confirmations and increased the expression of a protein associated with tumor suppression.

According to the Western blot analysis, the inhibition of bladder cancer also was accompanied by decreasing the production of proinflammatory cytokines.

Furthermore, DIM and lupeol treatment significantly decreased the levels of an enzyme associated with a mediator of tumor repopulation (Cox-2) in bladder tissue samples and NMP 22 in urine samples.

Moreover, in order to reveal more information about DIM anti-bladder cancer properties, researchers investigate the apoptotic properties of Diindolylmethane (DIM) and Lupeol on N-Butyl-N-(4-hydroxy butyl) Nitrosamine (BBN) initiated and Dimethylarsinic Acid (DMA) in the promotion of urinary bladder cancer.

The experiment included 60 male Wistar rats divided into 6 groups. Group I: Control. Group II: Rats experimentally developed bladder carcinogenesis with BBN and DMA. Group III and IV: DIM and lupeol were administered after BBN treatment for 28 weeks. Group V and VI: DIM and lupeol alone treatment for 36 weeks.

During the study, DIM and lupeol induced cancer cell apoptosis and inhibited cell proliferation by activating the stimulation of proteins associated with cell death programming and deactivating the gene associated with cell differentiation and division.

In other words, the administration of DIM and lupeol inhibited the progression of bladder cancer, by promoting the expression of apoptotic Bax, caspase-3, and caspase-9 and inhibiting the expression of anti-apoptotic Bcl-2, PCNA in the urinary bladder of rats.

Dr. Prabhu B, the lead scientist wrote in the final report, "Administration of diindolylmethane and lupeol treatment induces apoptosis and cellular proliferation by its anti-carcinogenic properties. From our results, DIM and lupeol would be the agent or adjunct for the treatment of bladder carcinogenesis".

Taken altogether, 3,3'-Diindolylmethane may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of bladder cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of 3,3'-diindolylmethane in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Herbal #Ashwagandha Extract Protects the Pancreas Against the #PancreaticCancer Risk, Scientists Suggest

By Kyle J. Norton

Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells grow and multiply in disordered and uncontrollable ways in our body, due to the change of cellular DNA. Most cases of cancer start in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the tissue of the organ.

However, at the later stage of the tumor progression, if undetected, the large size of the tumor can suppress and break the nearby small blood vessel, leading to internal bleeding and severe if the tumor also suppresses the nearby nerve cells.

Primary cancer cells at this advanced stage can also travel a distance away from the original site to affect other healthy tissue and organs, leading to secondary metastasis.

Pancreatic cancer is a medical and chronic condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissue of the pancreas.

In the early stage, pancreatic cancer starts in the cells of the surface of the inner lining of pancreatic tissue. At the advanced stage, cancerous cells of the pancreas can travel a distance away to invade other healthy tissue and organs.

The exact causes of the alternation of DNA of pancreatic cells are unknown. However, epidemiological studies suggested that genetic preposition and acquired gene mutations are associated with the increased incidence of cancer.

Some researchers suggested long-term use of tobacco, being overweight and obese, exposure to workplace chemicals, age, gender, and family history are some prevalent risk factors for pancreatic cancer.

According to the statistics, pancreatic cancer is the eighth most common cancer in women and the fourth leading cause of cancer death in men. Pancreatic cancer accounts for 7% of all cancer deaths.

The 5 years survival rate at stages 1 and 2 is 61% and 52% respectively.
Cascara sagrada is a species of buckthorn, genus Rhamnus, belonging to the family Rhamnaceae, native to western North America.

Ashwagandha also known as Withania somnifera is a nightshade plant in the genus of Withania, belonging to the family Solanaceae, native to the dry parts of India, North Africa, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean. On finding a potent compound for the treatment of cancer, researchers examined the withaferin-A (WA), the biologically active withanolide extracted from Withania somnifera in human pancreatic cancer cells.

According to the tested analysis, the extract significantly increased the cell's spherical structure with double-layer membranes degraded by autophagy through cleaning out damaged cells in normal cells.

However, in human pancreatic cancer (PC) cells, withanolide extract also blocked the degradation of autophagy by inhibiting SNARE protein in the the-mediated fusion of autophagosomes and lysosomes which contains degradative enzymes enclosed in a membrane.

In other words, in human pancreatic cancer (PC) cells, the extract promotes cancer cell degradation by autophagy to induce apoptosis.

More precisely, WA induced ER stress-mediated apoptosis. by promoting the accumulation of ubiquitinated proteins, associated with degradation via the proteasome, a protein involved in degrading unneeded or damaged proteins.

In vivo, combining WA with a series of ER stress aggravators enhanced apoptosis synergistically in tumor growth in PC xenografts.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "simultaneous suppression of 2 key intracellular protein degradation systems rendered PC cells vulnerable to ER stress, which may represent an avenue for new therapeutic combinations for this disease".

Taken altogether, Ashwagandha may be considered a functional herb for the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of pancreatic cancer, pending the result of a larger sample size and multicenter study

The Effects of #Herbal #Ashwagandha in Immunomodulating the Development of #ColonCancer, Researchers Suggest

By Kyle J. Norton

The immune system including the thymus and bone marrow, as well as secondary lymphatic tissues including spleen, tonsils, lymph vessels, lymph nodes, adenoids, skin, and liver, is the body's defense against infectious organisms and foreign invaders.

Immune dysfunction can be classified into
* The underactive immune system is also known as the weakened immune system. People with an underactive immune system are susceptible to infection, recurrent infections.

The most common symptoms of the underactive immune system are infection including frequent and recurrent pneumonia, bronchitis, sinus infections, ear infections, meningitis or skin infections, and Inflammation and infection of internal organs.

However, blood disorders, such as low platelet counts or anemia and digestive dysfunction are also some of the common symptoms found in patients with the underactive immune system.

* The overactive immune system is also known as an autoimmune disease. In this case, patients suffer diseases associated with the immune system that attacks the body tissues.

Dust, mold, pollen, and food over-reaction are some of the most common symptoms of patients with an overactive immune system. However, in severe cases, the active immune system can attack the body tissues, leading to chronic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), multiple sclerosis (MS), and type I diabetes.

According to the BC health link, autoimmune tests may include anti-dsDNA, anti-RNP, anti-Smith (or anti-Sm), anti-Sjogren's SSA and SSB, anti-scleroderma or anti-Scl-70, anti-Jo-1, and anti-CCP. Antibodies against cardiolipin also may be tested depending on the type of symptoms.

In other words, if your tested results showed that you have several of these antibodies in high amounts, you may have an autoimmune disease.

The study included Swiss albino mice induced colon cancer by Azoxymethane 15 mg/kg body weight was injected intraperitoneally once a week for 28 days before treatment of Withania somnifera.

According to the tested analysis, Azoxymethane induced the appearance of aberrant crypt foci (ACF) in the colons of the experimental mice. Furthermore, the biomarker and expression of ACF were found to correlate to the development of colon tumors.

Application of 400 mg/kg body weight of W. somnifera extracts once a week for four weeks on orally Azoxymethane induced colon cancer mice showed a significant effect on immunomodulatory activity by significantly altering the level of leucocytes, lymphocytes, neutrophils, immune complexes, and antibody immunoglobulins (Ig) A, G, and M.

In other words, the azoxymethane-induced colon cancer and immune dysfunction were controlled by the application of W. somnifera.

Based on the findings, researchers said, " These results suggested that the immunomodulatory effects of W. somnifera could be useful in the treatment of colon cancer".

Taken altogether, Ashwagandha may be considered a functional herb for the prevention and treatment of colon cancer through its immunomodulatory effects, pending the result of larger sample size and multicenter study

#Cranberry #Supplements Inhibits the Parameters that Cause #CardiovascularDisease, Researchers Find

By Kyle J. Norton

Cardioprotection is an action that contributes to the protection of heart and blood vessel integrity against damage or injury, including heart disease, and stroke.
In other words, cardioprotection is a process in which substances or medicines are used including an herbal remedy to protect heart muscle tissues against ischemic insult and deoxygenation injury.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are a class of conditions associated with the dysfunction of the arteries and heart, affecting the heart functioning.

According to the statistics provided by the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. Men are associated with 1/2 of the deaths due to heart disease in 2015 in men, compared to women.

Believe it or not, more than 63),000 Americans die from heart disease each year or 1 in every 4 deaths are caused by heart disease.

On another hand, stroke is a medical condition caused by poor blood flow to the brain, leading to brain cell death in the affected region.

The most common types of stroke are ischemic stroke associated with the obstruction of a blood vessel supplying blood to the brain and hemorrhagic stroke associated with small blood vessel ruptures. The most common cause of stroke is unmanaged high blood pressure.

The US statistics indicated that stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability in the United States. Each year, more than 79o,000 people suffer a stroke, including 600,000 first attacks, and 185,000 recurrent attacks.

Coronary artery disease caused by narrowing of the arteries, heart attack, abnormal heart rhythms, or arrhythmias and stroke is the most common type of cardiovascular disease found in the Western world.

The most common symptoms of CVD include persistent fatigue, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, and fainting.

If you have some of the aforementioned symptoms, please make sure that you check with your doctor to rule out the CVD possibility.

The exact causes of cardiovascular diseases are unidentified. However, according to epidemiological studies, the most prevalent factors that cause an increased risk of CVD are an unhealthy lifestyle correlated to the promotion of the Western diet.

Dr. Oikonomou E and colleagues in the joint study led by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens wrote, "... Western dietary pattern (increased intake of fat, red meat, and carbohydrates and minimal consumption of fruits and green leafy vegetables) was predictive of severe CAD (area under the curve: 0.73, 95% confidence intervals: 0.64-0.83, P < .001)".

And, "an unhealthy Western type of diet is associated with the severity of coronary artery lesions in patients with stable CAD. These findings highlight the role of dietary patterns when estimating cardiovascular risk for the management of patients with CAD".

The results strongly suggested by lifestyle change have a strong implication in the prevention of CVD.

Cranberry is an evergreen dwarf shrub, genus Vaccinium, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern America and Southern Asia. Because of its health benefits, cranberry has been cultivated in some parts of the world for commercial profit and used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat wounds, urinary disorders, diarrhea, diabetes, stomach ailments, and liver problems.

In finding a potential compound for the treatment of heart disease and stroke, researchers examined the efficacy of cranberry supplementation on cardiovascular disease metabolic risk factors in adult populations.

The systematic review is conducted by searching the databases of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar up to June 2018, to identify randomized controlled trials investigating the effect of cranberry supplementation on cardiovascular metabolic risk factors.

According to the results from the review of the pooled effect size, cranberry administration decreased the risk of CVD by significantly reducing systolic blood pressure and body mass index.

However, other parameters associated with the metabolic risks such as triacylglycerol, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, high-density lipoprotein, fasting plasma glucose, fasting insulin, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance, diastolic blood pressure, waist circumference, C-reactive protein, and intercellular adhesion molecule were not changed much after cranberry administration.

Furthermore, the reduction of SBP was more pronounced in patients with age ≥50 compared to the younger age group.

Moreover, compared to no change in supplemental administration, there was also a significant increase in high-density lipoprotein concentrations in subgroups with subjects <50 mean age and triacylglycerol levels in subsets with cranberry administered in juice form.

Based on the findings, researchers concluded. " cranberry supplementation may be effective in managing systolic blood pressure, body mass index, and high-density lipoprotein in younger adults. Further high-quality studies are needed to confirm these results.".

Taken altogether, cranberry may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of CVD, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
