Herbal Cascara Sagrada's Emodin Which Inhibits Pancreatic Cancer Cells Against Spreading

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a functional herb bioactive compound which processes anti-pancreatic cancer activity with no side effects, some scientists suggested.

Pancreatic cancer is a medical and chronic condition characterized by the irregular cells growth in the tissue of the pancreas.

In the early stage, pancreatic cancer starts on the cells of the surface of the inner lining of pancreatic tissue. At the advanced stage, cancerous cells of the pancreas can travel a distance away to invade other healthy tissue and organs.

The exact causes of the alternation of DNA of pancreatic cells are unknown. However, epidemiological studies suggested that genetic preposition and acquired gene mutations are associated with the increased incidence of cancer.

Some researchers suggested long-term use of tobacco, being overweight and obesity, exposure to workplace chemicals, age, gender and family history are some prevalent risk factors of pancreatic cancer.

According to the statistic, pancreatic cancer is the eighth most common cancer in women and the fourth leading cause of cancer death in men and women. cancer accounts for 7% of all cancer deaths.

The 5 years survival rate at stage 1 and 2 is 61% and 52% respectively.
Cascara sagrada is a species of buckthorn, genus Rhamnus, belonging to the family Rhamnaceae, native to western North America.

The herbal's bark has been used in traditional medicine for gastrointestinal support. and it is thought to have a laxative and natural cleansing effect.

Besides the main compound of anthraquinones, the herb also contains anthraquinone glycosides, (emodin, frangulin, iso-emodin, aloe-emodin, and chrysophanol), rhein, aloin, malic acid, tannic acid, cascarosides A, B, C, and D, and hydroxy anthracene derivatives (HAD), etc.

In the study to reaffirm the Emodin anti-pancreatic cancer effect through inducing apoptosis of pancreatic cancer cells and inhibit tumor growth, researchers at the Zhejiang University School of Medicine, launched an investigation to find out whether emodin could inhibit the angiogenesis of pancreatic cancer tissues and its mechanism.
In vitro and in vivo Emodin inhibited pancreatic cancer cell growth, induced apoptosis, and enhanced the anti-tumor effect of gemcitabine on pancreatic cancer cells by inhibiting the activity of nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB), the protein in response to cellular survival

Emodin inhibited tumor angiogenesis in vitro and in implanted pancreatic cancer tissues, decreased the expression of angiogenesis-associated factors and reduced eNOS phosphorylation in cell proliferation.

However, Emodin had no effect on VEGFR expression in vivo.

Dr. Lin SZ, the lead author said, "emodin has a potential anti-tumor effect on pancreatic cancer via its dual role in the promotion of apoptosis and suppression of angiogenesis".

Additionally, in the examine the effects of an X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP) and NF-κB in chemotherapy resistance in pancreatic cancer, researchers conducted an investigation of SW1990 cells treated by sodium chloride, gemcitabine, emodin or their combination (gemcitabine plus emodin).

The combination therapy of gemcitabine plus emodin)  are more effective in inducing a significantly inhibited SW1990 cell growth and a higher percentage of apoptosis than monotherapy.

Gemcitabine upregulated the expression of XIAP and NF-κB, while emodin or emodin plus gemcitabine downregulated them compared to the control group in vitro.

In SW1990 cells established orthotopic pancreatic tumor models in nude mice. The combination of emodin and gemcitabine showed a significant reduction in the tumor to tumor (T/NT) ratio, Standardized uptake value (SUV) and tumor weight compared to monotherapy.

Dr. Wang ZH, the lead author after taking into account of co and confounders wrote:" emodin enhances the antitumor effect of gemcitabine in SW1990 pancreatic cancer in vitro and in vivo, which may be via the downregulation of NF-κB expression, thus inhibiting the expression of XIAP.".

Taken altogether, herbal Cascara sagrada process high amount of bioactive ingredient Emodon may be considered a function in the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with chemo intervention of treatment of pancreatic cancer, pending to the results of large example size and multi-center studies.

Herbal Burdock, The Herb Which Protects You Against Digestive Disorders

By Kyle J. Norton

Herbal Burdock may have a potential effect in the protection of your gastrointestinal tract against the

Gastroprotective activity is an action which maintains the function of the digestive system against pathogens in the induction of gastric lesions.

The digestive system including the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder process the function to digest foods and transfer the nutrients and fluids to the body needs.

There is no single cause of the gastrointestinal disorder. Researchers suggested that the cause of the disorder can be attributed directly to the digestive system, or other systemic problems that facilitate the onset of disease.

However, according to the epidemiological studies, bacterial infection, viral infection, inflammation, muscle dysfunction, gallstones, stress, and intake of certain anti-inflammatory drugs are associated with the onset of the acute and chronic digestive disorders.

Dietary factors also play an important in the reduction and promotion of digestive dysfunction. people who are overeating, eating too much fatty food, not consuming enough fiber, and consuming too much alcohol and smoking are at a higher risk of digestive diseases, including ulcers and gastric acid reflux.

Dr. Linda Lee, M.D. in the article "5 Foods to Improve Your Digestion" posted on the John Hopkins Medicine shares five foods that promote healthier digestion and help you avoid common gastrointestinal symptoms, including whole grain, leafy green, lean protein, low fructose fruits, and avocado.

These results suggested if you are following a healthy diet with less saturated and trans fat, red meat and processed foods and increased intake of fruit and vegetables, you may be free of gastrointestinal disorders.

Dr. Hyams JS at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition in the study "Diet and gastrointestinal disease" said, "Dietary manipulation can be an important part of therapy for several common gastrointestinal disorders" and " In chronic nonspecific diarrhea and functional constipation, the provision of appropriate amounts of fiber and fluids may ameliorate symptoms. A thorough understanding of the role of diet is essential to the management of these disorders".

Burdock is a plant in the group of biennial thistles, genus Arctium, belonging to the family Asteraceae, native to the Euro.

The herb has been used thousands  of years in Chinese and other traditional herbal medicine as a diuretic, diaphoretic, and a blood purifying agent and to treat wounds and infections stomach ulcers and other digestive problems.

The ingredients
The herbal medicine contains carbonated water, sugar,, manloid colourings, phosphoric acid, citric acid and a good amount of dietary fiber, calcium, potassium, and amino acids and chemicals compounds of guaianolide, arctinone, arctinal, methyl arctate,11-tridecadien-3,5,7,9-tetraynde-hydrocostus lactone, dehydrodihydrocostus lactone, 3-octenoic acid, 3-hexenoic acid etc.

In the study to reaffirm the traditional medicine use of herbal burdock for the treatment of digestive disorders, researchers at the State University of Campinas conducted an evaluation to examine the anti-ulcerogenic activity of the sesquiterpene onopordopicrin (ONP)-enriched fraction (termed the ONP fraction), obtained from burdock leaves.

In vivo models in rodents, mimicking this disease in humans. injection of ONP fraction (50 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly inhibited the mucosal injury induced by ethanol/HCl solution by 75%, indomethacin/bethanechol by 68.9%, and stress by 58.3% compared to nontreatment groups.

ONP fraction application also significantly increased serum somatostatin levels (82.1±4.1 vs. control group 12.7±4 pmol/L) and decreased serum gastrin levels (62.6±6.04 vs. control group 361.5±8.2 μU/mL) without alternating the altered the mucus production.

Further analysis found that the gastrointestinal protection is attributed to the endogenous sulfhydryls in the ONP fraction.

Dr.de Almeida AB, at the final report, wrote, "antisecretory mechanism involved with the antiulcerogenic effect of the ONP fraction.

Additionally, in the study to evaluate the efficacy and the possible mechanisms involved in the gastroprotective effects of a chloroform extract (CE) of the roots from A. lappa and its fractions.conducted by the Universidade Federal do Paraná, researchers found that
* Oral pretreatment with CE (10, 30 and 100 mg kg(-1)) significantly reduced gastric lesions induced by ethanol by 61%, 70%, and 76%, respectively.

*Oral administration of CE (100 mg kg(-1) per day for 7 days) reduced the chronic gastric ulceration induced by acetic acid by 52%. Intraduodenal CE (100, 300 and 600 mg kg(-1)) reduced the total acidity of gastric secretion by 22%, 22% and 33%, respectively,

* Oral administration (10, 30 and 100 mg kg(-1)) inhibited total acidity by 50%, 60% and 67%, respectively.

These results reaffirm the study of the State University of Campinas that Herbal Burdock processes a significantly gastroprotective effect.

Dr. Dos Santos AC, the lead author after taking into account of con and confounder said, " the CE protects animals from gastric lesions by reducing gastric acid secretion via inhibition of gastric H+, K+ -ATPase."

Taken all together, Herbal Burdock processed bioactive ONP fraction and its chloroform extract (CE) may be considered functional food for the prevention and combines with the conventional medicine for treatment for gastrointestinal diseases.

Herbal Cat's claw Kills 90% of Breast Cancer Cells in Vitro

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a functional herb which has the potential to treat breast cancer without including any side effects, some studies suggested.

Most breast cancer irregular cells growth starts on the surface of the inner linings of milk ducts (Ductal carcinoma) or the lobules (Lobular carcinoma).

At the later stage, after colonizing the most parts of breast tissue, malignant cells can travel a distance far the way from the original site to infect other healthy tissue or organs through the fluid and blood circulation.

In Canada,  the risk of getting invasive breast cancer during the lifetime before the age of 90 of a woman is 1/11.

The exact causes of breast cancer are unknown. However certain risk factors are found to associate to the early onset of the disease, including an increase in age, gender, early menstrual periods and late menopause, unhealthy diet and lifestyle, dense breast tissue,.. and genetic preposition.

However, women with the genetic mutation BRCA1 and BRCA found in 5-10% of all breast cancer cases in the United States. are at the substantial risk to have breast cancer development.

According to the information provided by the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, out of the 3,886 women with mutation of gene BRCA1 and BRCA2 eligible for breast cancer risk analysis, 426 developed breast cancer during the study period,  representing a odds relative risk ratio of 1.11.

The peak incidence of breast cancer was seen in women 41–50 years old for BRCA1 mutation carriers and those 51–60 years old for BRCA2 mutation carriers.

The cumulative risk estimates for developing breast cancer by age 80 were 72% for BRCA1 carriers and 69% for BRCA2 carriers.

Therefore, women who carry the mutation of gene BRCA1 and BRCA2 may want to take preventive measures such as intensive early surveillance, use of chemoprevention, and prophylactic surgery to the risk of breast cancer onset.

Cat's claw found in in the tropical jungles of South and Central America, is a genus Uncaria, belonging to the family Rubiaceae.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine over two thousand years as a tonic, contraceptive, anti-inflammatory, and infectious agent, and to treat diarrhea, rheumatic disorders, acne, diabetes, cancer and diseases of the urinary tract, etc..

The chemical constituents of Cat's claw include ajmalicine, akuammigine, campesterol, catechin, carboxyl alkyl esters, chlorogenic acid, cinchonain, corynantheine, corynoxeine, daucosterol, epicatechin, Harman, hirsuteine, hirsutine, iso-pteropodine, etc.

In the reaffirming of the use of herbal Cat's claw as anti-cancer activity in South-American folk medicine, researchers at the Istituto Nazionale per lo Studio e la Cura dei Tumori launched an investigation to examine the extract anti-breast cancer effect on a human breast cancer cell line (MCF7).

Application of the exacts display a potency in the inhibition of MCF7 through the cytostatic effects against cell growth and division in the breast cancer cell line

Furthermore, the Cat 's claw extracts a strong in antimutagenic activity by restoring the cell DNA to the healthy level.

Moreover, the extracts and fractions also exert a direct antiproliferative activity at the doses of 10 mg/ml and 20 mg/ml on an IC50 by blocking the cell division through cell cycle arrest.

Moreover, at the concentration of 100 mg/ml of two active fractions isolated from Cat's claw inhibited 90% of breast cancer cells in MCF7.

These results suggested Cat's extract and its active fractions may be considered secondary therapy for treatment of breast cancer.

However, due to the limitation of the above studies, additional data collection large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food or its bioactive compounds during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of Cat's claw anti-breast cancer possibilities.

Herbal Cascara Sagrada, the Potential Anti Cancer Functional Remedy

 By Kyle J. Norton

Cascara sagrada bioactive compound Emodin may process a potential effect as an adjunct therapy for treatment of various types of cancers, some studies found.

Cancer is the class of medical and chronic diseases associated with the alternation of cell DNA that causes cells to grow disorderly and uncontrollably.

At the early stage, most cancers start on the surface of the inner lining of the tissue or organs. However, after colonizing most part of the organ, the cancerous cells can travel a distance away from the original site to infect other healthy tissue and organs.

The exact causes of cancers are unknown, Certain risk factors epidemiologically are found to associate with the early onset of the disease, including aging, tobacco, sun exposure, radiation exposure, chemicals, and other substances, some viruses and bacteria, certain hormones, family history of cancer, alcohol, poor diet, lack of physical activity, or being overweight.

However, most people who have some of the above risk factors do not develop cancers.

The symptoms of cancers are totally depending to the location, tissue, and organ, Cancers do not induce symptoms until they grow large enough to push on nearby organs, blood vessels, and nerves, that connect to the central nervous system.
Most common and general symptoms include fever, extreme tiredness (fatigue), or weight loss.

Cancers required a lot of energy for growth and survival. In order to steal more energy, some cancers secrete chemical substances that allow the growth of new blood vessels to supply them with more nutrients and fluid.

Cascara sagrada is a species of buckthorn, genus Rhamnus, belonging to the family Rhamnaceae, native to western North America,.

The herbal plant's bark has been used in traditional medicine for gastrointestinal support.

Besides the main compound of anthraquinones, other compounds of Cascara sagrada include anthraquinone glycosides, (emodin, frangulin, iso-emodin, aloe-emodin, and chrysophanol), rhein, aloin, malic acid, tannic acid, cascarosides A, B, C, and D, and hydroxy anthracene derivatives (HAD), etc.

In the study of the anti-cancer activity of Emodin, a major compound isolated from Cascara sagrada, researchers at the Université François-Rabelais de Tours launched an investigation to examine the effect on the adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP)-gated Ca(2+)-permeable channel P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) which is strongly upregulated in many tumors and cancer cells, and has an important role in cancer cell invasion associated with metastases.

Injection of emodin at doses ≤10 µM in cell culture had no or very mild effect on the cell viability on P2X7R. However, at the concentration of 1 and 10 µM emodin inhibited the ATP elicited increases in intracellular Ca(2+) concentration by 35 and 60%.

Furthermore, ATP-induced increase in gelatinolytic activity, in cancer cell invasiveness in vitro and in cell morphology changes were prevented by 1 µM emodin.

Moreover, the in vivo invasiveness of the P2X7R-positive MDA-MB-435s breast cancer cells was also suppressed by 40 and 50% by 1 and 10 µM emodin.

Additionally, in the study to explore a new horizon in the anticancer property of agents with relevance to mitotic arrest, including antimitotic activity of a series of naturally occurring anthracene-derived anthraquinones including anthrone, alizarin (1,2-dihydroxyanthraquinone), quinizarin (1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone), Rhein (4,5-dihydroxyanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid), emodin (1,6,8-trihydroxy-3-methylanthraquinone), and aloe emodin (1,8-dihydroxy-3-hydroxymethyl anthraquinone), researchers found that all tested compound inhibited the mitosis after 3, 6, and 24 h, respectively in a dose-dependent manner.

Emodin at 500 ppm was proved to be the most active compound to arrest the mitosis after 24 h second to the alizarin.

Taken altogether, herbal Cascara Sagrada processes high amounts of Emodin may be considered a functional food for prevention and adjunct therapy for treatment of cancers, pending to further data collection large example size and multi-centers studies performed on human.

Herbal Aloe Vera, The Potential Cure of Gastric Ulcer With No Side Effects

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a natural herbal medicine for treatment of gastric ulcer without inducing any side effect, some studies suggested.

Gastric ulcer is the medical condition characterized by the open sores that develop on the inside lining of the stomach. If the open sores are developed in the upper part of the small intestine, it is a duodenal ulcer.

Most common cause of the gastric ulcer, represented over 30% of all cases is associated with the infection of H. pylori.

Certain medical conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and long-term use of some medication such as alendronate (Fosamax) and risedronate (Actonel) are also the prevalent risk factors that elevate the disease onset.

Most common symptoms of a gastric ulcer are gastrointestinal discomforts, blood in your stool,  difficulty breathing, shortness of breath with physical activity, and persistent fatigue.

Some patients with severe gastric ulcer may also experience symptoms of vomiting blood,  feeling faint or losing consciousness. However, 75% of patients with gastric ulcer do not feel any symptoms.

If you have some of the above symptoms, please make that you check with your doctor to rule out the possibility of the condition.

Treatment of gastric ulcer is totally depending on the causes, such as histamine receptor blockers (H2 blockers) or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for patients with gastric ulcer induced by overproduction of stomach acid and the antibiotics for the infection caused by H. pylori.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan.

The herb has become very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits. Aloe vera has been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol, etc.

It is also one of many popular herbs studied in scientific ways with some conflicting results.

The ten main areas of chemical constituents of Aloe vera include amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, lignins, monosaccharide, polysaccharides, salicylic acid, saponins, and sterols. All ingredients work together in a synergistic way to create healing and health-giving benefits, according to Gertrude Baldwin in the article of THE BENEFITS OF THE USE OF ALOE VERA IN HERBAL PREPARATIONS.

In the study to examine the effects of Aloe vera and sucralfate on gastric microcirculatory changes, cytokine levels, and gastric ulcer healing in 48 Male Spraque-Dawley rat divided into four groups as the following, group1 served a as control group, group 2 as gastric ulcer group without treatment, groups 3 and 4 as gastric ulcer treatment groups with sucralfate and Aloe vera, researchers found
* On day 1 after induction of gastric ulcer and before treatment the leukocyte adherence in postcapillary venule was significantly increased in the ulcer groups, an indication of immune response to the gastric damage when compared to the control group. The level of TNF-alpha was elevated and the level of IL-10 was reduced, an indication of overexpression of pro-inflammatory cytokines.

* In the ulcer groups treated with sucralfate and Aloe vera, leukocyte adherence was reduced in postcapillary venule. The level of IL-10 was elevated, but the level of TNF-. alpha had no significant difference, an indication of the leading process with the presence of anti-inflammatory cytokine.

* On day 8, the leukocyte adherence in postcapillary venule and the level of TNF-alpha were still increased and the level of IL-10 was reduced in the ulcer group without treatment.

Dr. Eamlamnam K, the lead scientist at the final days of the study, wrote, "histopathological examination of the stomach on days 1 and 8 after induction of gastric ulcer showed that gastric tissue was damaged with inflammation. In the ulcer groups treated with sucralfate and Aloe vera on days 1 and 8, gastric inflammation was reduced, epithelial cell proliferation was enhanced and gastric glands became elongated".

The results further confirm the efficacy of Aloe vera in promoting gastric ulcer healing, through the expressions of leukocyte adherence and TNF-alpha level, elevate IL-10 level.

Additionally, in the examination of the anti-inflammatory effects of Aloe vera on leukocyte-endothelium in the gastric microcirculation of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-infected of 36 male Sprague-Dawley rats divided into 3 groups: control, H. pylori-infected, and A. vera-treated group (200 mg/kg b.w., twice daily). researchers found that

* H. pylori-infected group shows a significant increase of the leukocyte adhesion cells and the TNF-alpha level compared with the control group on day 8.

* After treatment with Treatment with A. vera H. pylori-infected group exerts a reduced the leukocyte adhesion and TNF-alpha significantly.

Dr. Prabjone R, the lead author at the final conclusion said, "enhancement in leukocyte-endothelium interaction could be improved by the treatment of A. vera, associated with the reduction in TNF-alpha level".

Interestingly, in the acute gastric mucosal lesions induced by 0.6 M HCl and acid output Aloe vera endowed with gastric acid anti-secretory activity were found to protect the gastric mucosa at low concentrations against injurious agents. Its bioactive component, the Polymer fraction reduce 50% of the mRNA expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in the initiation of the pathogenesis of inflammation.

Taken altogether, herbal Aloe vera may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of gastric ulcer without inducing any side effects.

However, due to the limitation of the above studies, further data collection large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food or its bioactive compounds during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of herbal Aloe vera anti-gastric ulcers possibilities.

Ginger, the Kitchen Spice Which Suppresses the Onset and Progression of Rheumatoid Arthritis

By Kyle J. Norton

Ginger may have a potential effect in the prevention and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, some scientists suggested.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a type of arthritis and chronic low-grade inflammatory disease associated with immune system mistakenly attacks the joint tissue.

According to the statistic, in the US over 1.3 million Americans were affected by rheumatoid arthritis compared to 1% of the worldwide population.

As of today, researchers do not know what trigger the immune system makes antibodies that attack the joint tissue. Why people with the same health condition in the same family, some are susceptible to the onset of the condition while others do not.

However, they do know the increase in age, family history, gender, environment, smoking, and obesity are some prevalent risk factors of RA.

In fact, lifestyle is some preventable risk factors which have been found to elevate the risk RA in the Western world.

Dr.Kathleen Chang, the lead scientist, in the study "Smoking and Rheumatoid Arthritis" clearly suggested that by following a healthy lifestyle, RA may be preventable.

The Doctor team continued " Recent developments have shed light on the pathophysiology of RA in smokers, including oxidative stress, inflammation, autoantibody formation, and epigenetic changes".

And "The association of smoking and the development of RA have been demonstrated through epidemiologic studies, as well as through in vivo and animal models of RA.

These results indicated a significant change of RA risk just by quitting cigarette smoking.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

On seeking alternative therapy for patients with chronic, painful diseases, a research team at the Basic Clin Pharmacol Toxicol investigated the potential of hydroalcoholic extract of Zingiber officinale rhizomes (Z. officinale extract) in ameliorating inflammatory process in rat rheumatoid arthritis.

Application of Z. officinale extract at the doses higher than 50 mg/kg/day intraperitoneally showed a significant effect in boosting the immune activity in rat with rheumatoid arthritis.

Continued administration for 26 days Z. officinale extract can ameliorate the clinical scores, disease incidence, joint temperature and swelling, and cartilage destruction.

The results were attributed to the extract effect in inhibiting the production of proinflammatory cytokines which play a critic role in facilitating the onset of low-grade inflammation.

The extract also reduced the immune system in the production of an antibody against the joint tissue.

Moreover, Z. officinale extract at the dose of 200 mg/kg/day was superior compared to those of  2 mg/kg/day injection of indomethacin in most of the measured parameters.

Dr. Fouda AM, at the final report, said, "These observations might make Z. officinale extract a good alternative to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for patients with rheumatoid arthritis".

In arthritis induced by a single intradermal injection of 0.1 mL of Complete Freund's adjuvant (containing heat-killed Mycobacterium tuberculosis) into the palmar surface of the left hind paw conducted by the King Faisal University, Al-Hufof, researchers examine the anti-rheumatoid arthritis in rats randomly assigned to receive orally and daily (for 28 consecutive days) distilled water as vehicle, indomethacin (1.0 mg/kg body weight), or GTaq (200 or 400 mg/kg body weight, ginger-turmeric rhizomes mixture ) from the day of arthritis induction.

Application of GTaq (especially the high dose) was more effective (4.2-38.4% higher, P < 0.05-0.001) than those of indomethacin (a non-steroidal/anti-inflammatory drug) in alleviating the loss in body weight gain, the histopathological changes in ankle joints, blood leukocytosis and thrombocytosis, iron deficiency anemia, serum hypoalbuminemia and globulinemia.

Rats treated the Gtaq also showed a reduction of the impairment of kidney functions and the risks for cardiovascular disease.

Further analysis suggested that the protective effects of GTaq are attributed to the increasing the food intake and decreasing the systemic inflammation and antioxidant activity in the inhibition of oxidative stress.

The finding supported the use of ginger-turmeric rhizomes mixture for the treatment against RA severity and complications.

However, further data collection large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of ginger anti-rheumatoid arthritis possibilities.

Herbal Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, Releases the Body Toxins through Kidney Urinary Secretion

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a functional herbal medicine that process a significant effect in promoting the secretion of toxin through increasing the urinary flow, some studies suggested.

Diuretic effect is the activity of substances that promote urinary secretion.

Many diuretics medicine can interfere with the functioning kidney in the regulation the levels of water in the body, leading to worsening kidney function and abnormal electrolyte levels.

Certain medications that treat conditions of high blood pressure, glaucoma and edema can damage the kidney function by overworking the kidney in water release.

Dr. Yusra Habib Khan, the lead author in the study "Chronic Kidney Disease, Fluid Overload and Diuretics: A Complicated Triangle" said, "The use of diuretics was associated with adverse renal outcomes indicated by decline in eGFR (Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is a measure of the function of the kidneys) and increased risk of (renal replacement therapy) RRT initiation in our cohort of NDD-CKD patients".

Therefore, intake of medicine that has a negative effect in kidney function and diuretics medicine should be taken with extreme care. If you are currently taking some of the above medicine, please make that you know the adverse effects.

Arctostaphylos uva-ursi is one of the species of Bearberry, in the genus Arctostaphylos, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to northern North America, Asia, and Europe.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as a diuretic agent and to treat urinary problems, including bladder infections, kidney infection, kidney stone, pelvic pain, etc.

Besides the major constituents of phenolic glycoside arbutin, tannins, and flavonoids, the herbal medicine also contains free hydroquinocoumaric acidaric acid, caffeic acid, salicylic acid, flavonoid quercetin, and triterpenes ursolic acid.

Because of increased awareness of conventional medication's side effects, there is increasing interest in the health and wellness benefits of herbs and botanicals. According to the Laboratoire de Pharmacognosie, in an animal study, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi and hydroalcoholic extracts increased urine flow. Urinary sodium excretion in rats.
Use of herbal diuresis should be taken with care and under professional prescription as the application may have a strong effect in the increase of urine flow rates to induce renal clearance of the toxicant.

In the article written by Michael E. Peterson DVM, MS, in Small Animal Toxicology (Third Edition), 2013, the author wrote, intoxications that are most likely to respond to force diuresis are those with a high level of renal excretion of the primary toxicant (e.g., bromide, lithium, amphetamine, phenobarbital, and salicylate).

Protein-bound toxins are not cleared efficiently by diuresis.

However, the patient must not be anuric or significantly oliguric

The primary problems associated with force diuresis include potential fluid overload and electrolyte abnormalities.

Michael E. Peterson DVM, MS, continued, "The practitioner should monitor for hyponatremia, hypokalemia, water intoxication, pulmonary edema, and cerebral edema. Additionally, some toxins such as tricyclic antidepressants and many sedative-hypnotics increase the patient’s susceptibility to interstitial pulmonary edema. Forced diuresis is contraindicated in these intoxications"

These results suggested that although herbal Arctostaphylos uva-ursi may be potent to detox the body toxin through increasing the urinary secretion. However, caution should be taken to prevent damage to kidney and kidney function.

Please make sure you only take the Arctostaphylos uva-ursi extract with the permission of the specialists in the related field.

However, additional data collection large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food or its bioactive compounds during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture ofHerbal Arctostaphylos uva-ursi diuretic possibilities.
