Herbal Anise Detoxes Your Kidney From Medicine and Chemicals Toxicity, Scientists Say

Kyle J. Norton

Anise may have a potential and therapeutic effect in reduced risk of nephrotoxicity caused by intake of some medicine and chemicals, some scientists suggested.

Nephrotoxicity or acute kidney failure is a condition of toxicity in the kidneys.

The disease is caused by a poisonous effect of prolonged use of certain medication and accumulation of harmful chemicals.

According to the American physician association, long term use of penicillins, cephalosporins, sulfonamides, thiazide diuretics, furosemide, NSAIDs and rifampicin are associated to increase damage to the kidney.

And people with age over 60 are at increased risk of nephrotoxicity, if the above medicne are prescribed for prolonged periods.

Continuously, the association wrote, "Drug-induced nephrotoxicity tends to be more common among certain patients and in specific clinical situations" and " Drugs cause approximately 20 percent of community-and hospital-acquired episodes of acute renal failure".

Dr. Koren G, in the classification of drug and chemicals that cause nephrotoxicity suggested, "Drugs and chemicals may affect renal function by pharmacologically decreasing glomerular filtration rate and/or renal blood flow" and " A variety of xenobiotics or their metabolites may be deposited in the renal tubule causing obstruction of urine flow and a secondary damage to tubular epithelium"(4).

If you experience symptoms of decreased urine output,.fluid retention that causes legs, ankles or feet. swelling,.... and shortness of breath, you may have acute kidney failure, please check with you doctor to rule out the possibility.

Anise is a flowering plant ofthe species of Pimpinella anisum, genus Pimpinella, belonging to the family Apiaceae native to to Egypt and the Mediterranean region,  used in traditional herbal medicine as fragrance in soaps, oils, and mouth fresheners and stomachic, anti-septic, anti-spasmodic, ....

Chemical comstituents
Anethole, D-pinene, I-phellandrene, Alpha-terpineol, Safrol, Methyl chavicol, Resin, Shikimic acid, etc.

In the investigation of the effect of Pimpinella anisum (P. anisum) in alleviated gentamicin (GM) in induction of nephrotoxicity, in a group of 40 male wistar rats divided into four groups: control, sham administrated normal saline orally and intraperitoneally (i.p.), GM received 100 mg/kg bw/day and GM and ethanolic extract of P. anisum with an oral dose of 300 mg/kg bw/day for 8 days, researchers found that GM groups demonstrates a significant increase of plasma levels of creatinine which in an indication of improper function of kidneys,  levels of Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) which is an indication of how the kidneys in filtered out the wastes and levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), a maker of oxidative stress.

Mice injected with GM also displayed an absolutely increased excretion of sodium and potassium inducing fluid or electrolyte imbalances and impaired kidney function.

Oral GM adminstrated mice also showed a  decreased level of reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) level, a marker of antioxidant defense in compared to the sham group.

Interestingly, application of herbal anise in GM group at dose of 300 mg/kg expressed an improvement of various aspects through significantly reduced the plasma concentrations of renal function markers and gentamicin-induced tubule damage.

Dr. Changizi-Ashtiyani S, the lead author said, " the potential therapeutic impact of P. anisum to attenuate GM-induced nephrotoxicity. Therefore, the simultaneous use of ethanolic extract of P. anisum during GM administration is recommended to reduce its nephrotoxicity effects".

Amazingly, in the study to evaluate the effect  Pimpinella anisum L. against lead intoxication in induction of nephrotoxicity in young rats intoxicated by lead acetate, researchers found that  oral adminstration of aqueous extract of P. anisum L. (500 and 750 mg/kg) for 15 days show an strong improvement in reduced expression of urea, creatinine, acid uric, and gamma-GT by  −71%, −1.23%, −1.80% and −5.88% of kidney damage bioamrkers caused by lead toxicity.

Importantly, injection of anise extracted also decreased the level of lipid hydroperoxide (LPO) of −13.56%, an indication of antioxidant activity induced by the application
and increased the concentration of total proteins (+8.88%) in expression of kidney and liver protective effects without changing histological structures of the kidney between the studied groups.

Dr. Bekara Amina, the lead author, after taking into account of other con founders, said, "P. anisum L. may have a nephroprotective potential against harmful effect induced by lead toxicity on kidney".

Moreover, in the study of a total of 40 male Wister albino rats divided randomly into four groups (1st group was control; 2nd group treated with star anise, 3 rd group received Etoposide, and 4th group treated with both star anise and Etoposide(chemotherapy medication used for the treatments of a number of types of cancer), application of the herbal products, displayed similar efficacy as those in ansie through significantly decreased elevation in creatinine, blood urea, sodium, potassium and chloride while calcium ions induced in the injection of Etoposide.

The study also addressed the inter uncorrelated between star anise water extract and the injection of Etoposide observed by assay supported the detrimental effect of Etoposide in the ameliorating effect of star anise water extract on renal toxicity.

Dr. Ali Salman Hassan according to the information findings said, "star anise has a promising role and it worth to be considered as a natural substance for ameliorating the renal toxicity and injury induced by Etoposide chemotherapy".

Taken together, Anise may be considered as an adjunct therapy in combined with standard medicine in reduced risk of nephrotoxicity, particularly in patient undergoing chemotherapy for cancer treatment.

Intake of herbal extract should be taken with extreme care  in prevented liver toxicity.

However, further data collection on large example size and multi centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food during the acute phase of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of herbal anise kidney protective possibilities.

Green Tea: The Drink Which Ameliorates Symptoms and Progression of Rheumatoid Arthritis(RA)

By Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrition

Green tea exhibited anti inflammatory effect in reduced symptoms and progression of
Rheumatoid Arthritis, some institutes suggested

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic disorder as a result of inflammation, affecting mostly the flexible (synovial) joints and tissues and organs in the body.

According to statistic, In US, approximately, 90 million adults and children suffered directly from arthritis, inducing  social and economic consequences to over 240 million people who are having a family member affected by the disease.

The disease was also found to infect a third of those aged 18-64.

Although, the disease is caused by immune defense attacking its the body healthy tissue, researchers as of today are not sure what trigger the abnormal function. But they do know that certain risk factors are associated to increased risk of rheumatoid arthritis, including genetic alternation, as people with certain genes are more likely to develop RA,  geographic factor as RA is rare in less developed and rural parts of the world, hormone factor as RA is more common in women than in men,.... and family history.

Other risk factors including smoking, people with certain medical conditions such as auto immune disease,  unhealthy diet such as high in red meat and less in fruits and vegetables, physical inactivity also promote early onset of RA.

The Karolinska Institutet in the study of the risk factors of RA wrote, "nongenetic risk factors (smoking, alcohol intake, parity, silica exposure, body mass index, fatty fish consumption, and education), and genetic risk factors (shared epitope [SE] and 76 single-nucleotide polymorphisms [SNPs])" and "....many (familial) risk factors remain to be identified, in particular for seronegative RA"(4).

The results of chronic inflammation caused by immune attacking the joints, inducing over expression of pro inflammatory cytokines can lead to damage of cells in the inflammatory site and nearby healthy cells, including bone, cartilage, tendons,.... and ligaments,

Untreated chronic joint inflammation can also cause complications of  total destruction of joint tissue.

If you experience symptoms of joint pain, tenderness, swelling, redness, stiffness,.... restriction or loss of joint range of motion, you may have RA.

Green tea, a precious drink processed numbers of health benefit anf known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

According to the joint study lead by Washington State University College of Pharmacy, green tea showed to ameliorate the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators including (IL-6 and IL-8) and Cox-2 in primary human rheumatoid arthritis synovial fibroblasts (RASFs), through the effects of its phytochemical compounds of EGCG and EGC antioxidant activities.

IL-6 and IL-8 are pro inflammatory cytokines activated by systematic immune response in prevented damage of tissue in the acute phase of infection. Prolonged over expression of IL6 and IL8 can cause damage to cells in the infectious region as well as surrounding healthy cells.

Cox-2 are prostaglandins with function in mediated pathogenic infection, including the inflammatory response.

Dr. Fechtner S, the lead researcher said," EGCG is the most effective catechin at inhibiting downstream inflammatory signaling, its effectiveness could be hindered by the presence of (epicatechin) EC".

In the investigation of the anti-inflammatory activity of green versus black tea aqueous extract in a rat model with orally/daily distilled water as placebo, indomethacin (1.0 mg/kg body weight; a non-steroidal/anti-inflammatory drug), or tea aqueous extracts (for 28 or 14 consecutive days administrated from day 0 or 14 of arthritis induction, respectively), researchers found that group treats with high dose of GTE (from day 0) significantly alleviated (P < 0.05-0.001) the progression and all complications induced by rheumatoid arthritis in compared to placebo.

More importantly, researchers also found that the expression of anti-arthritic activity of the high dose of GTE (from day 0) mediated by significantly decreasing the systemic production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the expression of chemokine receptor-5, a protein in activated immune activities in the in synovial tissues, was comparable (P > 0.05) with that of indomethacin (12.9-53.8 vs. 9.5-48.4%, respectively).

Furthermore, the anti-arthritic potency of tea aqueous extracts was doses dependent in the order of high dose of GTE > low dose of GTE ≥ high dose of BTE > low dose of BTE.

Other study suggested that green tea extract in reduced symptoms and risk of complications probably are the result in regulating chemokine(a family of cytokines secreted by cells) production in immune reaction and chemokine receptor expression in interaction with proimflammatory cytokines of human RA synovial fibroblasts in rat adjuvant-induced arthritis (AIA).

Taking together, green tea nay be served as a functional food to reduce symptoms and risk of complications for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Yoga In Reduced Physical and Psychological Symptoms of Parkinson's Disease

People who participated in yoga class have a profound and positive impact in reduced symptoms of  Parkinson's disease, a renowned study suggested.

Yoga, the accident technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well known for people in the Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

Parkinson's disease is a condition affected motor and nonmotor functions and causes severe debility and poor quality of life, a recent study suggested.

According to statistic, approximately one million are living with Parkinson's disease (PD) in the U.S.
Every year, over 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with PD.

And, if you are men, you are 1.5 time more likely to have Parkinson's disease in compared to women.

In the discussion with 28 experienced yoga experts, who fulfilled the inclusion criteria, selected validating the content of the integrated yoga module(IYM) for PD, researchers found that 21 out of 28 exhibited significant content validity by applying Lawshe's formula for the content validity ratio (CVR) of 0.42.

Additionally, in a randomized controlled pilot study investigated the effectiveness of yoga intervention on physiological and health-related QOL measures in people with PD with 13 people with stage 1-2 PD randomized to either a yoga (n = 8) or a control group (n = 5) and the yoga group participated in twice-weekly yoga sessions for 12 weeks, searchers found that yoga participants demonstrate a significant improvement in Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS)scores, improved diastolic blood pressure (P = 0.036) and average forced vital capacity (P = 0.03) over time, in compared to control.

Furthermore, researchers also indicated that the yoga group expressed positive trends of improvement in depression scores (P = 0.056), body weight (P = 0.056) and forced expiratory volume (P = 0.059).

More profoundly, Yoga participants reported more positive symptom changes including immediate tremor reduction in compared to the control group. Collectively, yoga significantly improves aspects of QOL and physiological functions in stages 1-2 PD patients.

Importantly, in support of the above differentiation, the California State University, in the measuring the effect of an eight-week adaptive yoga program on the physical and psychological status of individuals with Parkinson's disease pilot study suggested, after assessing the result of 10 participants with a Hoehn and Yahr stage of 2 or 3 prior to and after an 8-week control phase and again after they underwent an 8-week adaptive yoga program scientists suggested that yoga participants not only reduced expression of depression, anxiety in both gender, but also enhanced sit-and-reach flexibility in male participants in compared to female counterparts.

In younger participants, yoga showed an enormous improvement of Single-Leg Balance test(SLB) time after the intervention.

Indeed, in the compare the effects of power training (PWT) and a high-speed yoga program on physical performances in older patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), researchers indicated that both yoga program and PWT programs can significantly improve physical performance in older persons with PD.

In other words, Dr. Ni M, the led author said, "both training groups showed significant improvements (P<.05) in all physical measurements except functional reach on the more affected side, SLS, and postural sway compared with the pretests, and significantly better scores for UPDRSMS, BBS, Mini-BESTest, Timed Up and Go, functional reach on the less affected side".

Taking all together, yoga no doubt has a fabulous effect in improving both physical and psychological symptoms in the early stage of Parkinson's disease. Some researchers even suggested that yoga may be used as an integrated form of exercise conventionally with conventional therapy.

Aloe Vera, The Functional Herb Which Normalizes High Blood Pressure Quickly With No Adverse Effects

By Kyle J. Norton

Good news to people with hypertension, Aloe Vera may be a potential and therapeutic agent for lowering high blood pressure a renowned University study suggested.

Hypertension is a condition of abnormal high blood pressure, leading to symptoms of headaches, shortness of breath or nosebleeds......

Hypertension is a measurement with home systolic/ diastolic BP > or = 135/85 mmHg.

According to statistic, he prevalence of hypertension affects over 39.4% for men and 29.3% for women in the Western World.

Prolong untreated hypertension is found to induce complications of strokes, heart attacks, heart failure, or kidney disease.

Some researchers suggested that patients who are actively in modulated daily high blood pressure may be benefits in reduced risk of stroke by 35%, heart attack by 20%, and heart failure by 50%.

According to the WHO-based Healthy Diet Indicator (HDI), the American Heart Association 2006 Diet and Lifestyle Recommendations(4),
* The prevalence of untreated hypertension and treated hypertension was 22.4% and 8.5%.

* Patients with untreated hypertension had significantly lower HDI and AI-84 scores compared with non-hypertension.

* After adjusting for age, energy intake, smoking habit, alcohol drinking, physical activity and salt intake, a low adherence to HDI and a lowest quartile of AI-84 score were associated with a significantly higher prevalence of untreated hypertension, with an OR of 3.33 (95% CI 1.39 to 7.94, p=0.007) and 2.23 (1.09 to 4.53, p=0.027), respectively.

These results are agreed to general and popular belief that unhealthy diet plays an important role in induction of high blood pressure. Furthermore, a lower dietary quality was associated with increased prevalence of untreated hypertension.

People who eat more fruits and vegetables in compared to average daily intake are associated to a significantly lower risk of hypertension.

Dr. Utsugi MT in the comparison of fruits and vegetable intake daily said, "the highest-tertile consumptions of fruits, vegetables, potassium, and vitamin C were associated with a significantly lower risk of hypertension (45%, 38%, 46%, and 43% lower risk of home hypertension, respectively(5)".

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan. It has become very popular for commercial cultivation due to enormous health benefits. Aloe vera has also been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol,

According to the Hamdard University ,aloeemodin, aloin A, a chemical compound found in Aloe Vera showed to express hypotensive effects by lower mean arterial blood pressure by 26 %, 52 %, and 79 % in the corresponding doses of 0.5, 1, and 3 mg/kg in animal study.

Dr. Saleem R, the lead author of the study suggested that Aloeemodin has emerged as a potent hypotensive agent in current pharmacological investigation.

In a total of In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study, healthy, Aloe-emodin, another major chemical compound\ inhibited vascular smooth muscle stiffness, a condition in the development of hypertensio, involved cell in support structural and biochemical and interior surface of blood vessels.

In hypertension, increased large-artery stiffness is partly due to intrinsic mechanical properties of vascular smooth muscle cells.

More importantly, a smooth muscle cells derived from hypertensive and control rats study, treatment of Aloe-emodin also significantly reduced hypertension by improving elastic value of vascular smooth muscle cell , through it effects on vascular smooth muscle cell cytoskeletal proteins in regulated function of cell division.

Other researchers suggested that the anti hypertensive properties of Aloe-emodin may be a result of inhibition of tonic tension and regulated apoptosis, pro- and anti-apoptotic activities on vascular smooth muscle cells.

With all the information collected, Aloe Vera may have an anti hypertensive effect in regulated protein in cell production on vascular smooth muscle which is a main cause of high blood pressure, but more precised understanding may be necessary to reassess this pharmaceutical value.

Cascara Sagrada Chemotherapeutic and Mutated Gene Blocker Bioactive Components That Cut Off Energy Supply To Prostate Cancer Cells

Cascara sagrada may have a potential effect in inhibited onset and progression of prostate cancer, some scientists suggested.

Prostate cancer is medical a condition in which the cells of prostate has become cancerous, causing abnormal cell growth which spread to the distant parts of the body.

Most prostate cancers are slow growing and enlarged prostate and prostate cancer may be detected during the Physical (rectum) exams. However, some protatecancers can grow and become invasive quickly.

According to the study of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, metastasis to the bone caused by tumor/microenvironment interactions remains the major cause of death in advanced prostate cancer(3).

In other words, this invasion may be a result of certain cancer cells that can reseed the primary site and gain more metastatic potential in the process.

The exact causes of prostate cancer is unknown, however, certain conditions may associate to increase risk of prostate cancer, including age, ethnic group, family history,... and obesity.

Some researcher suggested that diet high in calcium is linked to an increased risk of developing prostate cancer and maternal high fat diet (HFD) is associated in increased risk children prostate cancer(4).

Most patients may not experience any symptoms until advance stage.
Most common symptoms includes frequent urination, lost of bladder control such as weak or interrupted urine flow or the need to strain to empty the bladder, the urge to urinate frequently at night. In severe cases, patients may also find blood in the urine and lost of erection.

Cascara sagrada is a species of buckthorn, genus Rhamnus, belongings to the family Rhamnaceae, native to western North America,

The herbal bark has been used in traditional medicine for gastrointestinal support. and it is thought to have a laxative and natural cleansing, etc..

The Ingredients
The chemical constituents of Cascara Sagrada include Aloe-emodin, Anthrquinone glycosides (Barbaloin Cascarosides A, B, C and D ChrysaloinFrangul), Chrysophanol, Emodin, Heterodianthrones palmidin A, B, and C, dianthrones, Oxanthrone, Rhein, Tannins, etc.

Aloe-emodin, a chemical constituent found in Cascara Sagrada is found to inhibit both proliferation and anchorage-independent growth of PC3 cells by targeting the protein complex that plays an impotant role in stimulated cancer cell metabolism (mTORC2) for survival and expansion.

Further analysis also found that application of aloe-emodin also suppressed the function of Protein kinase B, (Akt) of cancer cell in signalling protection of cell survival, increased cell cycle progression and cellular growth and protein kinase C alpha (PKCα) in promotion of cancer cell migration.

Dr. Liu K, the lead author at The World Class Institute and Chemical Biology Research Center at the end of the experiment wrote, " Aloe-emodin (also) exhibited tumor suppression effects in vivo in an athymic nude mouse model" and "Collectively, our data suggest that mTORC2 plays an important role in prostate cancer development and aloe-emodin suppresses prostate cancer progression by targeting mTORC"

Epidemiologically, emodin (ED), another bioactive compound found in cascara sagrada, also processed anti proliferation and induced apoptosis, suppressed angiogenesis, impeded metastasis, and enhanced chemotherapy.

In DU145 and A549 cells, application of emodin suppressed the expression of both mutation gene CXCR4 and HER2 which are associated to prorate cancer risk without affecting cell viability in tumor cells and protection healthy cell integrity against mutated gene CXCL12 in induction of cancer cells migration and invasion.

Additional differentiation suggested, the efficacy of emodin in inhibited mutated gene expression of prostate cancer was attributed to the bioactive activity in prevetion of cancer cell in promoted mRNA expression and suppressed of NF-κB in activation of cancer cells proliferation.

These results indicated that emodin may have a potential used as a novel blocker of CXCR4 expression as well as a powerful therapeutic agent for metastatic cancer.

The findings showed that, herbal Cascara Sagrada (Rhamnus purshiana) with bioactive components that have strong effects in inhibited prostate cancer cells may be considered as functional foods for treatment of prostate cancer.

Arnica, The Herbal Remedy Which Not Only Gobbles Up Breast Cancer Cells But Also Speeds Up Recovery After Post Breast Mastectomy, Medical Literature Showed

Kyle J. Norton (Scholar, Master of Nutrition)

Arnica may have a positive and therapeutic effects in reduced risk and treatment of breast cancer, some scientists suggested.

Breast cancer is a medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the breast tissue.

According to general belief, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime.

The causes of breast are unknown. Researchers do not know why some women are susceptible to DNA alternated in healthy breast tissue while others do not. Truly, many women who have risk factors never develop breast cancer.

Some researchers suggested that family history, early puberty and late onset of menopause, having high breast density, excessive alcohol drinking,.... and aging are associated to increase risk of breast cancer.

Furthermore, Women who are inherited gene mutation from parent, have previous cancer,..and
have taking certain medicine such as diethylstilbestrol (DES) are also associated to risk of the disease.

Today modern technology are developed to detect breast cancer in early stage, but self examination is still one of best method to catch the cancer before they can become invasive.

The survival rates of breast cancer have also increased, and the number of deaths associated is steadily decreasing, largely due to factors that women are more awareness of the early onset of the disease.

If you experience of some symptoms such as breast lump, nipple changes, breast change in the size, shape, inverted nipple,  breast skin peeling, scaling, flaking of the pigmented area of skin surrounding the nipple, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility

Arnica is a herbaceous species, genus perennial, belongings to the family Asteraceae, antive to Europe and Asia. The plant has been used in herbal medicine for centuries to treat strains, sprains, and bruises.

The ingredients
Helenalin, chamissonolid, Sesquiterpene lactone, lignans of the furofuran, dibenzylbutyrolactone, dibenzylbutyrolactol types, pinoresinol, epipinoresinol, phillygenin, matairesinol, nortrachelogenin, and nortracheloside, six dibenzylbutyrolactol derivative.

According to the evaluation of cytotoxic chemotherapeutic agents with efficacy without inducing adverse effects from major compound extracted from Arnica helenalin and to exam whether the compound activity was maximized by encapsulation in β-cyclodextrin nanoparticle, application of β-cyclodextrin nanoparticle alone exerted an significantly inhibitory property against breast cancer cells.

β-Cyclodextrin (β-CD) is a cyclic oligosaccharide comprising seven D-glucopyranoside units, linked through 1,4-glycosidic bonds.

Interestingly, when helenalin was encapsulation in β-cyclodextrin nanoparticle, the combination demonstrated a significant effect in induction of breast cancer cell cytotoxicity in compared to administration of helenalin alone.

These results suggested that certain compounds in β-cyclodextrin may have potential in stimulated and enhanced the helenalin action through some unknown interacted mechanisms.

In T47D breast cancer cell line, injection of β-cyclodextrin- helenalin complexes inhibited the preoperative effect in prevented expanse of the colony in dose-dependent manner.

Some researchers suggested that the induction of breast cancer cell apoptosis and profileration may be attributed to helenalin anti oxidants activity in restrict the the growth of cells through its stimulation of  ROS in facilitated cell death.

More importantly, application of β-cyclodextrin- helenalin also improved the ratio of antioxidant and ROS in the infectious cell line. These results were observed in the expression of telomerase gene through the r q-PCR.

Truly, the length of terminal transferase was shortening in the treated cell lines in compared to untreated control.

Furthermore, application of Arnica also expressed a profound effect in reduced blood and serum volumes and  pain, and the presence of bruising or hematomas during period of drainage.

According to study of 53 women, undergoing unilateral total mastectomy, selected from 2012 to 2014 randomly assigned to A. montana or placebo and followed up for 5 days, conducted by the Niguarda Ca' Granda Hospital, Milan, Arnica treatment of group displayed a strong reduction of the of mean volume of blood and serum collected in drainages in compared to control group observed by the per-protocol analysis.

Analysis of the questionnaire returned from the patients, researchers found that patient weight showed a statistically significant difference in favor in use of Arnica, according the regression model including treatment, volume collected in the drainage on the day of surgery.

Moreover, the blood and serum volumes collected on the day of surgery and the following days were significantly lower with Arnica at days 2 in compared to untreated patients.

Dr.Sorrentino L , the lead author, after taking into account of other co and con founders said, " reduce post-operative blood and seroma collection in women undergoing unilateral total mastectomy".

The findings suggested that Arnica and its major bioactive helenalin may be used as a secondary herbal treatment or combination with standard medicine for treatment of breast cancer and speeding up recovery after post total mastectomy.

Intake of herbal supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent acute liver toxicity.

How to Protect Your Skin Against Histamine Release In Induction of Hives Effectively

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk of sudden appearance of hives, some scientists suggested.

Hives, also known as Urticaria, is the condition characterized by a sudden outbreak of swollen, pale red bumps or plaques on the skin.

The exact causes of hives are unknown, However, epidemiological studies all agreed that a set of conditions such as allergic reactions, chemicals in foods, insect stings, sunlight exposure, or medications can all cause histamine release initiated the onset of hives.

Certain diseases such as thyroid disease, hepatitis, infection,.... and cancer are also associated with the onset of chronic hives.

Acute condition of Hives are diseases that last less than six weeks.

Most common symptoms of chronic hives include red, itchy or skin color welts on the skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes and anywhere in the body that last no longer than six to 12 hours.

In severe cases, chronic hives may induce symptoms of dizziness. wheezing. difficulty breathing,........ and swelling of the tongue, lips, or face.

According to statistic, approximately, 20 percent of people may develop hives at sometime in their live.

According to the returned of 437 response rate (95%) questionnaires from the fourth to sixth-grade students at an elementary school in Yongin conducted by the J Dankook University to examine the food allergy that affects between 10.9% to 12.6% general population(2).
* The prevalence of food allergy among respondents was 19.7%.

* The the most common food allergy-related symptoms were urticaria

These results suggested that food allergens are one of the leading cause of the onset of hives among children between age from 9 - 12.

Green tea, is a precious drink processed numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.
In the investigated the roles of dietary factors in aggravating, preventing, or treating skin diseases such as chronic urticaria, and psoriasis patients, researchers at the University, New Brunswick, researchers found that green tea not only reduces risk of skin cancers but also processes a strong effect in inhibited chronic urticaria symptoms(1).

The study also suggested that green tea inhibits hives onset through its antihistamine effect.

Furthermore, Green tea also processes anti inflammatory properties that can soothe swelling and reduce skin discomfort.

According to the Universidad de Málaga and CIBER de Enfermedades Raras (CIBERER), green tea bioactive compound epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), exerted anti allergen caused by histamine-producing cells through alterations in their behavior such as their proliferative, adhesion, migration, and invasion potentials.

By exhibiting the anti antihistamine effect, green tea may have a potency in reduced risk of acute and chronic skin diseases caused by food allergens, including hives(2).

Dr. Melgarejo E, the lead author said, "green tea EGCG has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory, anti-tumoral, and anti-angiogenic effects and to be a potent inhibitor of the histamine-producing enzyme, histidine decarboxylase"(2).

Taken together, green tea and its bioactive phytochemical EGCG may be considered as functional food in inhibit hives caused by overexpression of histamine.
