Whole food(herbal medicine), linking health benefits in the prevention, management, and treatment of diseases has placed an important role in human history over many centuries. The finding of whole food medication by renowned scientists all over the world to replace the single ingredient of Western medicine with little or no side effect has been difficult due to no commercial benefit and patent right to producers.

Cinnamon is a spice derived from the inner bark of tree, native to South East Asia, of over 300 species of the genus Cinnamomum, belonging to the familyLauraceae, use in herbal and traditional medicine as anti-fungal and bacteria level, to improve reproductive organ, prevent flatulence and intestinal cramping, and to treat indigestion, diarrhea, bad breath, headache, migraine, etc.

Topical use of essential oil extracted from cinnamon may be the next generation whole herb medicine for prevention and treatment of menstrual pain and heavy menstrual bleeding

According to the Eulji University, in the study compared the effect of aromatherapy massage and acetaminophen on menstrual pain in Korean high school girls. the cinnamon treatment group showed a significantly higher reduction of a menstrual pain than in the acetaminophen group.

In a randomized, double-blind trial, out of 114, the group received Cinnamon (capsule containing 420 mg Cinnamon, TDS, n= 38) in 24 h significantly reduced the severity and duration of pain during menstruation and menstrual bleeding.

In primary dysmenorrhea, cinnamon expressed significantly over the reduction of pain, menstrual bleeding, nausea and vomiting with primary dysmenorrhea without side effects.

Dr. Marzouk TM., the lead author at the Mansoura University said, " ... aromatherapy abdominal massage once daily for seven days prior to menstruation using the essential oils (cinnamon....) is effective in alleviating menstrual pain, its duration, and excessive menstrual bleeding...." and "Aromatherapy can be provided as a nonpharmacological pain relief measure and as a part of nursing care given to girls suffering from dysmenorrhea, or excessive menstrual bleeding".

Further study of the effect of cinnamon extract on symptoms of dysmenorrhea and contractility in some smooth muscles, Dr. Alotaibi M. suggested, cinnamon may be used to alleviate menstrual pain associated with dysmenorrhoea or prevent unwanted uterine activity in early pregnancy.

Indeed, Cinnamon may be the effective whole herb medicine used for the treatment of menstrual pain. Intake of cinnamon should be taken with care as toxicity is found in case of overdoses.

The finding of whole food medication by renowned scientists all over world to replace the single ingredient of Western medicine with little or no side effect has been difficult, due to no commercial benefit and patent right to producers.

Garlic (Allium sativum) is a species in the onion genus, belonging to family Amaryllidaceae, native to central Asia. It has been used popularly in traditional and Chinese medicine in treating common cold and flu, blood pressure cholesterol levels, natural antibiotic, etc. but Garlic appears to be generally safe although allergic reactions may occur.

Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells growing and multiplying disordered and uncontrollable way in our body, have become progressively worse and damaged other healthy tissues. Sometimes cancer cells spread to other organs in the body via lymph or blood and results may be in death.

A recent study lead by author Dr. Oommen S, indicated that allicin, the main ingredient found in garlic induced the formation of apoptotic bodies, nuclear condensation and a typical DNA ladder in cancer cells, causing cell death.

Researchers in the study of ingredient allicin also showed that the phytochemical was capable in inducing an increase of the rate of apoptosis with affecting the expression the cell cycle division and negation of pro inflammation.

In cancer HL60 and U937 cell lines, allicin inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis through the mitochondrial pathway by involving the activation of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway by GSH depletion and by changes in the intracellular redox status.

In the research of the function of 20 compounds from garlic, researchers at the Kerala Agricultural University, Kerala, suggested that garlic Phytocompounds Possess Anticancer Activity by Specifically Targeting Breast Cancer Biomarkers.

Other compounds found in garlic such as organosulfur, its extract and phytocompounds also suppress cancer cells proliferation and induced cell cycle arrest.

Therefore, people with or without cancers may consider adding a portion of garlic whole food into their diet for prevention, management, and treatment of the disease.

Whole food(herbal medicine), linking health benefits in the prevention, management, and treatment of diseases has placed an important role in human history over many centuries. The finding of whole food medication by renowned scientists all over world to replace the single ingredient of Western medicine with little or no side effect has been difficult due to no commercial benefit and patent right to producers.

Garbanzo bean also known as chickpea is an edible legume of genus Cicer and the family Fabaceae, high in protein and minerals. It is one of the earliest cultivated vegetables, native to Middle East.
With Nutrients of
1. Carbohydrates
2. Dietary fiber
3. Fat
4. Protein
5. Vitamin A
6. Thiamine (Vitamin B1)
7. Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)
8. Niacin (Vitamin B3)
9. Pantothenic acid (B5)
10. Vitamin B6
11. Folate (Vitamin B9)
12. Vitamin C
13. Vitamin E
14. Vitamin K
15. Iron
16. Magnesium
17. Phosphorus
18. Potassium
19. Zinc
20. Etc.

Chickpea may be the next generation of antioxidant in scavenging against the development of free radical H2O2, malondialdehyde (MDA) through reduction of antioxidant stress.

In the study in identification and characterization of antioxidant peptides from chickpea protein hydrolysates, researchers at the joint study lead by the Avda. Padre García insisted that main sequences, ALEPDHR, TETWNPNHPEL, FVPH, and SAEHGSLH, corresponded to legumin, the main seed protein, have shown to contain free radical scavenging and cellular antioxidant activities..

In support to the above study, researchers at the Jiangnan University said, " This antioxidant peptide(found in chickpea) efficiently quenched the free radical sources 1,1-diphenyl-2-pycryl-hydrazyl (DPPH), hydroxyl, and superoxide free radicals. The Cu(2+) and Fe(2+) chelating activities were 76.92% and 63.08% at the peptide concentration of 50μgmL(-1), respectively. Furthermore, the inhibition of the Fra.7 on lipid peroxidation was greater than that of α-tocopherol".

Also in the investigation of free radicals scavenging activity, pectin (CAP) extracted from the husk of Cicer arietinum L. exhibited a dose-dependent free radical scavenging activity at a scavenging rate of 29% on DPPH radicals in 1.0 mg/mL

Therefore, the intake of. Chickpea accompanied with a good diet can reduce the risk of free radical-induced certain diseases, such as cancers, arthritis, dementia, etc..

People who follow a typical American diet, may express a certain problem in bowel movement, as a result of consuming high saturated fat, salt, sugar....... and less of fiber. According to the University of Tasmania, diet not only affects food choice, satiety but also have a profound influence of bowel health. 15 participants.who participated in the study tended to eat more processed snack foods (high energy, low fiber) after ceasing chickpea consumption(1).

In 27 free-living adults followed two randomized, crossover dietary interventions each of five weeks duration, Dr. Pittaway JK and research team said,"... significant decrease in serum TC and LDL-C during the chickpea diet compared to the equivalent fibre wheat diet was partly due to unintentional changes in macronutrient intake occurring because of chickpea ingestion"(2).

The effect of chickpea in promotion of bowl health may be the result of a high amount of dietary fiber found in the peas. In the study of the effectiveness of probiotics, prebiotics, and dietary fiber in the treatment of FGD in the pediatric population, suggested that administration of a fiber supplement is more effective than placebo for the treatment of childhood constipation(3).

In fact, Fiber undergoes partial or total fermentation after conscription in the distal small bowel and colon leading to the production of short-chain fatty acids and gas, thereby affecting gastrointestinal function and sensation, the University of Michigan Health System, insisted(4).

Taking altogether, people who eat a portion of chickpea everyday may improve the gastrointestinal function, regardless to type of diet.

Chickpea with abundant bioactive compounds may be used along with the relevant antioxidant capacities as antifungal whole food, through the expression of defense-related enzymes like l-phenylalanine ammonia lyase, peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase(1).

According to the study by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, in the emergence of epidemic fungal pathogenic resistance to current antifungal drugs, showed that C-25 found in Garbanzo beans(Chickpea) not only process an effective antimycotic but also is an antiproliferative agent against human oral cancer cells(2).

In support to the above, chickpea is found to exhibit inhibitory activity against Aspergillus flavus in a study conducted by the South China Normal University(3).

Cicerfuran, 2-(2-methoxy-4,5-methylenedioxyphenyl)-6-hydroxybenzofuran, is an antifungal phytoalexin and Cicerfuran showed antimicrobial activity with MICs as low as 25microg/ml against Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas syringae, and four species of filamentous fungi, Aspergillus niger, Botrytis cinerea, Cladosporium herbarum and Monilinia aucupariae(4).

Another antioxidant such as Cicerarin(5), Cicerin(6) and arietin(6) may also be considered as
novel chickpea peptides with different antifungal potencies.

Chickpea with abundant bioactive phenolic compounds along with the relevant antioxidant capacities may be considered as a functional ingredient of antioxidant for their beneficial health effects, according to the study of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM)(1).

Gallic acid, one of the major ingredient of Phenolic profile and a phytochemical found abundantly in tea, mango, strawberries, rhubarb, soy, etc. has found to process bioactive phenolic compounds in radical scavenging effects against DPPH, nitric oxide (NO) and superoxide (SO) radicals as well as inhibiting certain types of cancers(2).

Ferulic acid, another Phenolic profile found abundantly in chickpea, cinnamon, aloe, flaxseed hull, etc. has also found to consist strong antioxidant effect and may be used as potential sources of functional food ingredients(3).

Other in ingredients of the Phenolic profile such as  Quercetin(9)(10), Catechin(6)(7), Resveratrol(8)(9),....  also found to process strong antioxidant effects in free radical scavenging as well as protection against the development of many types of cancer.

In fact, sodium selenite and germination on the sprouting of chickpeas (Cicer arietinum L.) may increase the antioxidant capacities of high Se content (2.14 μg/g dry weight) and a moderate high content of isoflavones (601.56 μg biochanin A/g dry weight and 578.11 μg formononetin/g dry weight). According to the Taishan Medical University, Se-enriched chickpea sprouts may serve as a convenient dietary source of Se and of isoflavones, including formononetin and biochanin A(4).
In support of above, in a study of sodium metavanadate and germination on the sprouting of chickpeas, researchers at the same university said, " The addition of sodium metavanadate significantly increased V content in CS in a dose-dependent manner. The highest V content (1.52 mg/g) in CS was observed when germination was carried out in the NaVO(3) solution with 1,200 mg/L NaVO(3) concentration. Chickpea seeds germinated in 50 ∼200 mg/L NaVO(3) solutions for 6 days at 28 °C showed a higher germination rate (>99%%) and a higher content of isoflavones including formononetin and biochanin A than those obtained in NaVO(3) solutions with other concentration in the same germination conditions."(5).

Taking altogether, intake of one portion of chickpea may reduce the risk of free radical causes of diseases, such as chronic inflammatory diseases, cancers..... For more information, please visit antioxidant  research and studies at https://kylejnorton.blogspot.ca/p/blog-page_24.html

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are medical condition mostly caused by work related occupations and working environment, affecting patients’ muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and nerves and developing over time. A community sample of 73 females and 32 males aged 85 and over underwent a standardised examination at home. Musculoskeletal pain was reported by 57% of those interviewed(1).

                                        Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis is defined a chronic disorder as a result of inflammation, affecting mostly the flexible (synovial) joints and tissues and organs in the body. The disease affects more women than men and generally occurs after the ages of 40, causing diminished quality of life of many elders(1). According to CDC, Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) affects over 52 millions of adults in the US alone, including 294,000 children under age 18 with some form of arthritis or rheumatic conditions(2). Rheumatoid Arthritis can induced bone loss through elevating bone resorption without increasing bone formation(4). A cross-sectional population-based study of 1042 patients with rheumatoid arthritis showed that RA patients had an increased risk of death from various causes(4a).

The Diagnosis - C-reactive protein

If you are experience certain subtle symptoms, such as achy joints or a morning stiffness, etc,....you may be at the early stage onset of rheumatoid arthritis. If your doctor suspect that have develop RA because of some RA symptoms such as such as warmth, swelling and pain in the joints, after physical exam, certain blood tests may be necessary, including

A group of "acute phase reactants" protein produced by liver and found in patient with rheumatoid arthritis.,tends to elevate in case of inflammation. According to the Copenhagen University Hospital, oral nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) does not effects the levels of protein but may be constituted to the influence of NSAIDs on cardiovascular complications in patient with RA(66).
