The stomach formed part of the digestive system that receives food from the esophagus before passing them to the small intestine is a muscular organ located on the left side of the upper abdomen.

The stomach is the first line of food digestive by secreting acid and enzymes.

Gastric protection is the process or action that protects the stomach by increasing the production of gastric (stomach) mucus with an aim to protect the stomach wall.

The most common diseases associated with the stomach are
*Gastric/Stomach cancer is a medical and chronic condition caused by the cell growth irregularly and disorderly in the cells on the surface of the inner lining tissue before penetrating deeper into other layers of the stomach to form a tumor, due to the alternation of DNA.

Cranberry is an evergreen dwarf shrub, genus Vaccinium, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern America and Southern Asia. Because of its health benefits, cranberry has been cultivated in some parts of the world for commercial profit and used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat wounds, urinary disorders, diarrhea, diabetes, stomach ailments, and liver problems.

On finding a potential compound for the protection of the stomach, researchers investigated the effects of drinking cranberry juice on H. pylori infection.

According to the review of selected studies, cranberry juice showed significant activity in preventing H. pylori adhesion in vitro to the human gastric mucosa.

In Vivo, cranberry juice fed to mice infected with H. pylori, 80% were cured 24 h following treatment, with an eradication rate of 20%, 4 wk post-treatment.

Moreover, cranberries in the combination with traditional anti-H. pylori antibiotics such as metronidazole and clarithromycin were proven proved effective in improving eradication rates and suppressing infections in endemic populations.

Additionally, the inhibitory action of cranberries against H. pylori was attributed to its effect on the inhibition of adhesion, biofilm formation blocking.

Taken altogether, cranberry combined with conventional medicines may be considered a gastric protective remedy for the management of obesity, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
