The result of phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) intake in exhibit the intestine atrophy may be attributed to the lectin levels in increased production of hormone cholecystokinin in stimulated additional release of bile into the intestine.

Taking together, intake of kidney bean should be taken with care with patients with digestive problems as level of lectin may induce intestinal atrophy.

Beside chemical compound 60-kDa glucosamine binding lectin, 64-kDa glucosamine-specific lectin isolated from brown kidney bean also exhibited antiproliferative activity against nubers of cell lines including human breast cancer (MCF7) cells, hepatoma (HepG2) cells and nasopharyngeal carcinoma (CNE1 and CNE2) cells with concentration of an inhibitor of 5.12 µM, 32.85 µM, 3.12 µM and 40.12 µM respectively after treatment for 24 hours.

Particularly in breast cancer cell line MCF7, formation of apoptotic bodies of the tumors are associated to apoptosis involved estrogen receptor(ER) stress and directed protein response.

Taking together, Kidney bean processed an anti cancer effects by exhibited anti proliferative and anti apoptotic activities against the early stage of development and progression of the cancer in various pathway. Please note that raw kidney beans are toxic.

Obviously, these findings contradicted to other studies in support of risk of gallstone reduced by coffee and caffeine intake, including the study conducted by Harvard School of Public Health.

Other, in the review literature of database from PubMed and EMBASE of all published studies before June 2015 researchers at The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University files the following results
1. Coffee intake regularly and daily had a significantly reduced risk of gallstone disease, in related females, but not in males. based on prospective studies.
2. For patients drinking one cup of coffee per day, the risk of of gallstone disease was 0.95
3. For patients drinking 2, 4 and 6 cups of coffee per day, the estimated RRs of gallstone disease reduced to 0.89 (95% CI, 0.79 to 0.99), 0.81 and .75 respectively.
4, Coffee intake showed a linear association to ameliorated risk of gallstone diseases.

Interestingly, in a cohort of 80,898 women age 34-59 years in 1980 who had no history of gallstone disease, during 20 years of follow-up, researchers filed the below results
1. Compared to non caffeine coffee drinkers women, the multivariate relative risks of gallstone disease with cholecystectomy in compared to consistent intake of caffeinated coffee (0, 1, 2-3, and > or =4 cups/day) were 1.0, 0.91, 0.78, and 0.72 respectively.
2. Coffee caffeine intake was inversely associated to risk of cholecystectomy.
3. Caffeine intake (< or =25, 26-100, 101-200, 201-400, 401-800, and >800 mg/day) is linearly associated to reduced risk of gallstone disease with multivariate relative ratio of 1.0, 1.03, 1.01, 0.94, 0.85, and 0.85 4. Decaffienated coffee was not associated with risk.

There is no doubt that the study addresses a significantly inverse association in reduced risk of gallstone disease among coffee drinkers linearly.

Taking altogether, the contradictory result may warrant a further study, before one can make a decision of the effect of coffee and coffee caffeine in concern of risk of gallstone, but not in the attnuated risk of symptomatic gallstone disease.

A joint study by respectable institutes suggested that intake of coffee and coffee caffeine daily and regularly may associate to attenuated risk of metabolic syndrome.

Coffee, second to green tea, is a popular and social beverage all over the world, particular in the West, made from roast bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

According to the searching of database from f PubMed and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) for relevant articles published between 1 January 1999 and 31 May 2015, including 11 published reports and 13 studies with a total of 159,805 participants were eligible for our meta-analysis, the relative odd risk ratio of metabolic syndrome  between the highest vs lowest category of coffee consumption was 0.872 

The review also observed a non linear relationship between coffee and coffee caffeine consumption in ameliorated risk of metabolic syndrome, by dose-response analysis.

Additionally, in a cross-sectional population-based survey of 8,821 adults (51.4% female) conducted in Krakow, Poland. to evaluate the coffee and tea consumption and risk of metabolic syndrome, using food frequency questionnaires, observation of the questionnaire returned from participants expressed an interesting association between high coffee consumption of 3 cups and the clusters of lower BMI, waist circumference, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, triglycerides, and higher HDL cholesterol than those drinking less than 1 cup/day.

The study apparently indicated that people drinking 3 cups of coffee daily and regularly have a favorably ameliorated risk of metabolic syndrome even after adjusting for potential confounding factors.

More importantly, the study also pointed out that high coffee consumption was negatively associated with waist circumference, hypertension, and triglycerides in women but not in men.

Furthermore, in animal evaluation of the effect of coffee drinking on clinical markers of diabetes and metabolic syndrome in Zucker rats including Diabetic Zucker rats with metabolic syndrome and control Zucker rats, researchers at the Fluminense Federal Institute postulated that after animals received daily doses of coffee drink by gavage for 30 days, coffee consumption expressed a decreased risk of metabolic syndrome in reduced serum glucose, total cholesterol and triglycerides in compared to non treatment group.
Dr. Abrahão SA, the lead researchers said, "The results demonstrate that treatment with roasted coffee drink, because of its hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effect, is efficient in the protection of animals with metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus type 2".

The findings from above studies suggested that coffee and coffee caffeine drinking daily and regularly have a favorably profound effect in decreased risk of metabolic syndrome, particular in women.

More importantly, treated mice with azuki bean (Vigna angularis) seed coats (ABSC), suppressed the elevation of SBP throughout the treatment period of 8 weeks, by decreasing of NADPH pxidase in activated free radical expression and increasing antibody p47phox and Nox4 against radical formation through mRNA expression.

Dr. Mukai Y, the lead researcher said, " polyphenol-containing ABSC could attenuate vascular oxidative stress and inflammation during the progression of hypertension, and this may lead to an improvement in hypertension".

The findings suggested that black bean with various chemical constituents may be considered as a functional and integrated food for reduced hypertensive risk and treatment of high blood pressure.

The study also insisted that antioxidant effect against liver intoxication, a widely use laboratory application in induced lipid peroxidation and trichloromethyl radical (CCl3 ), to cause severe liver cell damage in animal model, may represent a new perspective in liver injury and fibrosis prevention, the researcher concluded.

Taking together, black bean, contains various phytochemicals, such as naringenin, Nacetylcysteine, vitamin E, sylimarin, quercetin in exhibited antioxidant activity, may be considered as a integrated form of diet therapy for reduced risk and treatment of liver fibrosis.

According to the Hannam University Daedeok Valley Campus, Korean kidney bean husk extract, ameliorated risk of colon cancer through the ability in control the messenger initiated chemical reactions of intracellular signaling responsible for inducing antitumor activities in colon cancer cells.

The anti preoperative effect of the extract also exhibited the protein in resposible in inducing cell death by interfering phases of tumor cell cycle division.

Dr.Lee YK, the lead author in the study said, " the ability of carcinogenesis control by Korean kidney bean husk extract with high potency suggests its value as an antitumor agent in colon cancer therapy."

Further more, in the evaluated composition and chemopreventive effect of a polysaccharide extract (PE) from cooked common beans ( P. vulgaris L), including kidney bean, in Negro 8025 with azoxymethane (AOM) induced colon cancer, rats group fed with polysaccharide extract (PE) showed a significantly decreased clusters of abnormal tissues in the lining of the colon and rectum.

The study also insisted, the anti colon cancer activity can also be attributed to cell apoptostic expression and action of butyrate concentration found in the beans.

In support to the above differentiation, the Querétaro State University study concluded that the efficacy of common bean in treatment of colon cancer is a result of chemoprevention against aberrant crypt foci, clusters of abnormal tube-like glands in the lining of the colon and rectum through a combination of cell-cycle arrest in phase I and II.

Additionally, the study also suggested that through modulation of gene expression profiles in the colon tissue, non-digestible fraction (NDF) of cooked bean (cultivar Bayo Madero) may contribute to the chemoprotective effect on early-stage colon cancer.

Taking together, intake of kidney bean regularly may have a potential effect in reduced risk and treatment of early stage of colon cancer.

Food Therapy: Black Bean In Reduced Risk of CVD and Diabetes in Metabolic Syndrome Adults

Intake of black bean and other common bean may associate to ameliorated risk of metabolic syndrome induced type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, a joint study of renowned institutes suggested.

Metabolic Syndrome is a group of risk factors associated with the development of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
Black bean, a small roughly ovoid legume with glossy black shells, genus Phaseolus, belongings to the family Fabaceae can be bought in most grocery stores all around the year in dried and canned forms. It is believed that black bean was first domesticated growth in South America.

In a pilot study consisted 12 men and women with metabolic syndrome randomly assigned to eat three standard meals in a crossover design on three different occasions that contained either no added fiber (control (NF)), extrinsic or added fiber (AF), or whole black beans as the source of intrinsic fiber (BN). 5 hours after meal intake, black bean injection group showed a remarkable improvement of blood glucose, insulin, cholecystokinin (CCK) and the GI hormones in compared to other groups.

Unfortunately, even with such results, black bean meal was not the meal of choice of tested adult in compared to NF meal which tended to result in more satisfaction.

Dr. Reverri EJ, the lead author said, "incorporating whole blackbeans into a meal has acute beneficial metabolic and GI hormone responses in adults with metabolic syndrome and are preferred over adding equivalent amounts of fiber from a supplement."

Other, in the study of 12 adults with metabolic syndrome (MetS) consumed one of three meals (black bean (BB), fiber matched (FM), and antioxidant capacity matched (AM)) on three occasions with included blood collection before (fasting) and five hours postprandially, black beam intake group showed an improvement of insulin resistance, antioxidant capacity, oxLDL and inhibited pro inflammatory expression against risk factor of metabolic syndrome in increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The study also suggested black bean group according to observed plasma antioxidant capacity may be less at beginning in compared to AM group, but at the end point, BB group showed a significant antioxidant levels in compared to other 2 groups.

The finding evidences suggested that black bean may be considered as a therapeutic functional food in reduced risk of metabolic syndrome which is an early indicator of onset of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
