The chemical constituents of Cat's claw include, ajmalicine, akuammigine, campesterol, catechin, carboxyl alkyl esters, chlorogenic acid, cinchonain, corynantheine, corynoxeine, daucosterol, epicatechin, harman, hirsuteine, hirsutine, iso-pteropodine, etc.

Parkinson disease is a type of dementia caused by dysfunction of nerve cells that produce dopamine in the brain, affecting muscle rigidity, tremors, changes in speech and gait.

Uncaria tomentosa may be one of the medical plant used for reduced symptoms and treatment of Parkinson disease.

According to the recent study, AC11 (a standardized aqueous extract of Uncaria tomentosa) exhibited scavenged several types of free radicals, decreased the level of lipid peroxidation and reduced  aggregation of α-synuclein by 40%.

Dr. Cosentino C. the lead researcher at the Instituto de Ciencias Neurologicas, said, "Uncaria tomentosa (UT),,... reversed worsening of motor signs in a patient with Parkinson disease after oral intake" 

Further study of Cat's Claw (Uncaria tomentosa) also found that the medical plant enhanced DNA repair and immunity in model systems with capability of generated neuroprotective effects in neurons. 

Although therapeutic intervention of Cat's claw my exhibit the properties against Parkinson's disease, use of the medicial plant should be taken with care.
