Regular physical activity has long been found to associate to the prevention of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic diseases, but regular walking contribution of health benefits of reduced symptoms of Polymalgia Arthritis in the younger and older elderly have been controversial.

Polymalgia Arthritis is defined as a condition a common inflammatory rheumatic disease which cause pain, stiffness and tenderness in large muscles, including muscles shoulders and pelvic girdleas a result of the presence of a synovitis in proximal joints and periarticular structures, causing musculoskeletal symptoms in PMR.

Regular exercise, including walking is essential for maintaining joint flexibility, muscle strength and function, according to American Arthritis foundation(1).
Arthritis Research UK said, "Weight-bearing exercise (any exercise that involves walking or running) is best for maintaining bone strength and guarding against osteoporosis, but walking is usually most suitable for people with PMR"(2).
In fact, according to Arthritis Research UK on polymyalgia rheumatica, the key is to strike a balance, as walking may help reduce pain and will keep muscles from becoming weak.  Too much activity (which can strain painful muscles), and too little activity (which can increase pain and stiffness and lead to further weakness)(3).
