Whole food(herbal medicine) used as medical treatment,  linking health benefits in prevention, management and treatment of diseases has induced much interests in today renowned scientists.

Many researchers has raised question of quality of the herbs because geographic differences, time of grown and harvest, etc. may effect their's potency. I do believe, these questions can only be answered by experience herbalists.

People who regular Intake of cayenne pepper pills for weight loss should be careful as cayenne pepper pills has shown to induce Myocardial infarction (MI).

Cayenne is also known as Cayenne Pepper, a red, hot chili pepper, belonging to Capsicum annuum, the family Solanaceae, native to sub-tropical and tropical regions, used in traditional medicine to increases metabolism, enhance circulatory system and stomach and the intestinal tract, adjust blood pressure, lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, treat frostbite, muscles, arthritis, rheumatism, low back pain, strains, sprains, bruises and neuralgia, etc.

According to the Harran University, Capsaicin supplement, one of the major active components of cayenne pepper pills found over the counter substance also induced severe chest pain with an extensive inferior myocardial infarction on a 25 years old male.

In fact, use of capsaicin patch  may also cause harm to the circulatory system, Dr. said Akçay AB, the lead researcher said, " A 29-year-old man experienced coronary vasospasm and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) which were possibly induced by the use of a topical capsaicin patch to relieve lumbago" and " the vasospasm and subsequent AMI was attributed to the use of the capsaicin patch for six days".

And ingestion of peppers and chili peppers are found to associate with arterial hypertensive crisis and acute myocardial infarction through expression of high levels of thyroid stimulating hormone.

Therefore, people who used any type of cayenne supplement as topical painkiller, weight loss,.... should consult with special field expert in prevention of the adverse effect on the circulatory system.

Garlic (Allium sativum) is a species in the onion genus, belonging to family Amaryllidaceae, native to central Asia. It has been used popularly in traditional and Chinese medicine in treating common cold and flu to the Plague, blood pressure cholesterol levels, natural antibiotic, etc.

Lung cancer is defined as a condition of the abnormal growth of the cells in the lung's tissue. Most common form of primary lung cancers are derived from epithelial cells. In Us, Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths, causing 158,683 people deaths, including 88,329 men and 70,354 women, according to 2007 statistic.

Recent study suggested that garlic may be used as chemo prevention and treatment of lung cancer.

According to the study by Medical Research Center, College of Medicine allyl sulfur compounds and garlic extract found in garlic exhibited anti non small cell lung cancer cell lines effects through interference on tumor cell division and tumor cell proliferation.

Benzo(a)pyrene-induced precancerous carcinogenesis in human lung cells, oil-soluble organosulfur compounds in garlic induced suppression of cell proliferation, cell cycle regulation, attenuation of ROS formation, inhibition of DNA damage, after administration.

The examine of association between raw garlic consumption and lung cancer, a case-control study conducted between 2005 and 2007 in Taiyuan, China, showed that compared with no intake, raw garlic intake is associated with lower risk of development of lung cancer with a dose-response pattern.

In fact, the Epidemiologic data collected by face-to-face interviews using a standard questionnaire among 1,424 lung cancer cases and 4,543 healthy controls also supported the negation of garlic intake and lung disease and suggested that garlic may potentially serve as a chemopreventive agent for lung cancer.

Dr. Yang GQ, the lead researchers at the 107th Hospital of the People's Liberation Army said, "black garlic extract (BGE) could have significant inhibitory action on the growth of lung cancer Lewis cells. The combination of BGE and radiotherapy (by 60Co gamma) significantly induced Lewis cells' apoptosis in G2/M stage".

Whole food garlic in reduced risk and treatment of lung cancer probably is due to the effect of its' phytochemicals. Adding a portion of garlic in your diet is beneficiary for increased protection against  lung cancer development.

Whole food(herbal medicine) used as medical research,  linking health benefits in prevention, management and treatment of diseases has induced much interests in today renowned scientists.

Many researchers have raised questions of their's quality and effectiveness, depending too much on geographic differences, time of grown and harvest, etc..  I do believe, these questions can only be answered by experience herbalist.

Dopamine, a neurotransmitter plays an important role in the brain of human body, including sexual behavior. Besides in regulation of cognitive, integrative and reward processes, the organic chemical of catecholamine and phenethylamine also can trigger penile erection and control of sexual function by acting on oxytocinergic neurons.

Dr. Baskerville TA said," dopamine demonstrates the potential existence of interaction between central dopamine and hormone in controlling sexual reproduction during penile erection

In fact, the effect of a pro-erectile dose of apomorphine, a mixed dopamine receptor agonist, showed a stimulation of dopamine receptors, induced the release of oxytocin in brain to mediating and reinforcing effects of sexual activity in regulating the sexual behaviour (e.g., penile erection) with those controlling sexual motivation and sexual arousal.

Catnip may be next generation of herbal medicine used as dopamine to increase penile erection and improve male sexual behavior.

Catnip is also known as catswort, or catmint, a plant of Nepeta, belonging to the family of Lamiaceae, native to Europe and Asia, used in herbal medicine as insect repellent and to treat digestive disorders, children restlessness and nervousness, fevers, cold and flu, skin irritations stimulate sweating, promote menstruation, etc.

According to the Paulista University, male rats of the NC group increased penile erection. facilitate on sexual behavior and a decreased in general activity involved dopaminergic systems.

Several studies suggested that dopamine is a neurotransmitter plays an in important role  in regulating and controlling  penile erection and sexual behavior, but the use of the herbal medicine should only prescribed by herbalist to prevent depression.

Whole food(herbal medicine), linking health benefits in prevention, management and treatment of diseases has placed an important role in human history over many centuries. The finding of whole food medication by renowned scientists all over world to replace the single ingredient of Western medicine with little or no side effect has been difficult due to no commercial benefit and patent right to producers.

Recent study suggested that cinnamon expressed reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases through its antioxidant, chemopreventive, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties.

Heart disease kills more than 2,000 Americans everyday. Approximately 60 million Americans have heart disease.
Anything that serves to damage the inner lining of blood vessels and impedes the transportation of oxygen and nutrition to the heart can be defined as a risk of heart disease. Here are some early indication of heart disease symptoms:

Cinnamon is a spice derived from the inner bark of tree, native to South East Asia, of over 300 species of the genus Cinnamomum, belonging to the familyLauraceae,  use in herbal and traditional medicine as anti-fungal and bacteria level to improve reproductive organ, prevent flatulence and intestinal cramping, treat indigestion, diarrhea, bad breath, headache, migraine, etc.

The joint study lead by the North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences, also suggested, use of cinnamon for prevention and treatment of CVD, probably due to its activities in inhibition of metabolic syndrome (MetS), the leading cause of heart diseases.

In support of the above suggestion, some recent studies reaffirm the importance of cinnamon as a spice and may be a natural remedy to treat cardiovascular diseases.

Furthermore, intake of cinnamon powder also exerted a beneficial effect on glycaemic control in animals and human models, affecting the progression of metabolic alterations in early stage of cardiovascular events.

Dr. Deng said, "The hypoglycemic effects of cinnamon and .... were demonstrated in most of the trials with some exceptions" and " Future studies with more defined participants, standardized preparation and dose, and improved trial design and size are warranted".

Taken together, cinnamon may be beneficiary for prevention, management and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, but the quantity used of cinnamon should only be prescribed by herbalist in prevention of toxicity.

Food Therapy: garlic, The Best whole food medicine for reduced risk and complications of Cardiovascular diseases

Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrients

Whole food(herbal medicine), linking health benefits in the prevention, management, and treatment of diseases has placed an important role in human history over many centuries. The finding of whole food medication by renowned scientists all over the world to replace the single ingredient of Western medicine with little or no side effect has been difficult due to no commercial benefit and patent right to producers.

Cardiovascular diseases refer to heart diseases, affecting millions of people in the world. According to statistic, over 17.7 million people died from CVDs in 2015, Hyperlipidaemia and hypertension are the risk factors of the diseases.

There are many causes of heart disease. Anything that serves to damage the inner lining of blood vessels and impedes the transportation of oxygen and nutrition to the heart can be defined as a risk of heart disease. Here are some early indication of heart disease symptoms:
Garlic (Allium sativum) is a species in the onion genus, belonging to family Amaryllidaceae, native to central Asia. It has been used popularly in traditional and Chinese medicine in treating common cold and flu to the Plague, blood pressure cholesterol levels, natural antibiotic, etc.

A recent study suggested that garlic may be used for the prevention and treatment of heart disease.

According to the Nihon University, organosulfur compounds found in garlic induce the functions of our body in attenuating the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Dr. Kulczyński B, the lead author insisted that the effectiveness of garlic for prevention and treatment of heart diseases probably is the result of the whole herb in demonstration of their antioxidant, chemopreventive, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties.

Other researchers suggested the role of garlic in alleviating the risks of the metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular complications is due to its modulatory effects on hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia and oxidative stress.

Garlic also has the potential to treat mild hypertension, decrease hypercholesterolemia, and prevent atherosclerosis, according to the joint study lead by the Jordan University of Science and Technologe,

Dr. Alali FQ, the lead author of the study also said, " Garlic (Allium sativum L.), a top-selling herbal dietary supplement, is renowned for its wide range beneficial effects, particularly in the treatment and prevention of CVD".

In fact, data published after the year 2000 convincingly pointed out that garlic reduces cardiovascular risk substantially, through inhibition of abnormal plasma lipids, oxidized low-density lipoproteins (LDL), abnormal platelet aggregation and a high blood pressure.

Adding garlic into one diet may reduce the risk of the diseases if accompanied with the intake of more vegetables, fruits, and change of lifestyle.

Herbal Therapy: Cat's Claw, the Best Whole Herb medicine for Reduced Symptoms and Treatment of Inflammatory arthritis

Cat's claw found in the tropical jungles of South and Central America, is a genus Uncaria, belonging to the family Rubiaceae, used in traditional medicine over two thousand years as a tonic, contraceptive, anti-inflammatory and infectious agent, and to treat diarrhea, rheumatic disorders, acne, diabetes, cancer and diseases of the urinary tract, etc..

The chemical constituents of Cat's claw include ajmalicine, akuammigine, campesterol, catechin, carboxyl alkyl esters, chlorogenic acid, cinchonain, corynantheine, corynoxeine, daucosterol, epicatechin, harman, hirsuteine, hirsutine, iso-pteropodine, etc.

Arthritis is one common musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) inflammatory diseases, affecting one or more joints with symptoms of joint pain and stiffness.

Cat's claw may be used for treatment in reduced symptoms of arthritis patient through interfering the regulated phosphohydrolytic activity in the prevention of arthritis induction causes to tissue damage.

In the review of 16 clinical studies (11 randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials, three crossover trials, one case-controlled study, and one open-label study), the Bethesda North Hospital Pharmacy, suggested, cat's claw may be used as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug or steroid usage in some studies.

In a total of 50 patients with RA, undergoing sulfasalazine or hydroxychloroquine treatment enrolled in a randomized 52 week, 2 phase study, 24 weeks of treatment with the UT extract exhibited a reduction of the number of painful joints compared to placebo (by 53.2% vs 24.1%; p = 0.044),

In fact,  " Cat's claw also exhibited antioxidant effect against inflammation through reduction of pro-inflammatory mediators and effectors" Dr. Hardin SR said.

Dr. Sandoval M.. the lead author at the Albany Medical College, suggested. oral pretreatment for UT protected against inflammatory disorders, through the interaction of the pro-inflammatory expression with its antioxidant properties.

Although Cat's claw may be effective for reduced symptoms and treatment of inflammatory arthritis. Use of the whole herb quantity should be taken with care as toxicity is found in some cases.

Food Therapy: Garlic - The Testosterone Booster Whole Food Medicine?

Garlic (Allium sativum) is a species in the onion genus, belonging to family Amaryllidaceae, native to central Asia. It has been used popularly in traditional and Chinese medicine in treating common cold and flu to the Plague, blood pressure, cholesterol, natural antibiotic, etc.

Garlic may be the next generation of natural testosterone reducer or inducer?  High level of testosterone may alter the balance between ROS production and antioxidant defenses of that induce testicular antioxidants and free radicals, including glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT) and ameliorate the reduction in testosterone levels.

Dr. Prasad S lead research at the Industrial Toxicology Research Centre, diallyl sulfide (DAS), a constituent of garlic, exerted antioxidant activities against testosterone-induced oxidative stress in male Swiss albino mice, by significantly restored the testosterone-induced antioxidant enzymes and lipid peroxidation.

The effects of garlic supplementation on protein metabolism also suggested that dietary supplementation with 0.8 g/100 g garlic alters hormones associated with protein anabolism by increasing testicular testosterone and decreasing plasma corticosterone in rats fed a high protein diet.

Over production of testosterone may associate to increase the risk of prostate cancer, caused by an imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants.

According to the Tunis El Manar University, intake of garlic impacted on the male reproductive system by the increased number of tubules deprived of spermatozoa. In addition, garlic fractions induced apoptosis of testicular gem cells.

In fact, like all natural phytochemicals, garlic is both testosterone booster and testosterone reducer, depending on the levels of testosterone in the body and amount of garlic intake.

Conflicting results have been found between total testosterone and subsequent prostate cancer, probably due to conflicted study designs, definitions, and methodologies. Therefore, the use of garlic in increasing sexual desire should be taken with care.

Food Therapy: Garbanzo bean( chickpea) In Prevention, Management and Treatment of Dyslipidemia

Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrition
Whole food(herbal medicine), linking health benefits in the prevention, management, and treatment of diseases has placed an important role in human history over many centuries. The finding of whole food medication by renowned scientists all over the world to replace the single ingredient of Western medicine with little or no side effect has been difficult due to no commercial benefit and pattern right to producers.

Garbanzo beans also known as chickpea is an edible legume of genus Cicer and the family Fabaceae, high in protein and minerals. It is one of the earliest cultivated vegetables, native to the Middle East.
With Nutrients of
1. Carbohydrates
2. Dietary fiber
3. Fat
4. Protein
5. Vitamin A
6. Thiamine (Vitamin B1)
7. Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)
8. Niacin (Vitamin B3)
9. Pantothenic acid (B5)
10. Vitamin B6
11. Folate (Vitamin B9)
12. Vitamin C
13. Vitamin E
14. Vitamin K
15. Iron
16. Magnesium
17. Phosphorus
18. Potassium
19. Zinc
20. Etc.

The effectiveness of chickpea in reduced symptoms and complications of patients with high blood cholesterol, probably due to the existence of the high amount of dietary fiber. According to the Huazhong Agricultural University, dietary fiber has the potential to be used as a functional ingredient to control the cardiovascular disease. due to the effectiveness of lipid-binding capacities of the three fibers and their effects on serum and hepatic lipid profiles.

In total, 157 patients study, dietary fiber intake may have a protective factor associated with CVD, through reduction of the levels of proinflammatory factors, indoxyl sulfate, and serum cholesterol.

The study of the dietary fiber in the prevention of obesity-related liver lipotoxicity, Dr. Han S and research team in the joint study lead by the Soochow University wrote," Adequate intake of dietary fibers has proven metabolic and cardiovascular benefits,.... (and) exhibited lower weight gain, lipid profiles, and insulin resistance.

In animal study, the change of diet such as high fiber diet may completely normalize neuropathy, promote weight loss, improved insulin sensitivity, and restored LDL cholesterol and oxLDL by 50% compared with levels in HFD control mice with metabolic syndrome (obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT)).

Taking all together, increased intake of dietary fiber every day such as chickpea may reduce the risk of dyslipidemia as well as high blood cholesterol induced diseases.

Food Therapy: Garlic, The Best anti Colorectal Cancer in Whole food medicine

Whole food(herbal medicine), linking health benefits in the prevention, management, and treatment of diseases has placed an important role in human history over many centuries. The finding of whole food medication by renowned scientists all over the world to replace the single ingredient of Western medicine with little or no side effect has been difficult due to no commercial benefit and patent right to producers.

Bowel cancer also known as colorectal cancer, is defined as a condition of the abnormal proliferation of cells in the colon, rectum, or vermiform appendix. Bowel cancer is relatively very common and slowly growing and progressing cancer and in a predictable way.
Bowel cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in developed countries, including the US and Canada.

Allicin (diallyl thiosulfinate) is the best-known biologically active component in freshly crushed garlic, found to reduce risk colon cancer through inhibited cancer cell lines HCT-116, LS174T, HT-29, and Caco-2, according to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

In the study of garlic phytochemical compounds such as S-allylmercaptocysteine, diallyl disulfide, and S-trityl-L-cysteine, research also found that the chemical ingredients isolated from garlic inhibited colon cancer cell (SW620 and HCT116) growth followed by induction of apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner.

In Vitro, intake of garlic and its lipid-based extracts, induced cell cycle arrest, through a fourfold increase in caspase activity (apoptosis) in PC-3 cells when treated at a dose of 0.5 or 1 μg/m and may consider being potential as promising anticancer agents, including colon cancer.

Dr. Baena R and Dr, Salinas P said, " Dietary factors and lifestyle may contribute to the increasing colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence... Fish consumption may decrease CRC risk by 12% whereas garlic intake is not significantly associated with reduced CRC risk".

In fact, diet represents 30-35% of risk factors that contribute to the onset of cancer, adding garlic in your diet is associated to reduce the risk of various cancers, including Colorectal Cancer, together with the reduction of from meat intake influenced by both total intake and its frequency.

Food Therapy: Garlic - The Whole Food Medicine for Antiplatelet Aggregation

Several sulfur-containing compounds, isolated from garlic may be very effective in inhibition of platelet aggregation, a recent study suggested.

Antiplatelet activity is the effect of decreased platelet aggregation and inhibited thrombus formation.

According to the Ochanomizu University, sulfur-containing compounds in garlic not only inhibited arachidonic acid metabolism but also suppressed aggregation in association with the function of the platelet plasma membrane.

In vitro, garlic mechanisms of action may be comparable to that of the clinically used drug clopidogrel, as the herb exerts antiaggregatory effects. Garlic extracts are acting by inhibition of the ADP pathway, an important physiological agonist of normal hemostasis and thrombosis.

Dr. MacDonald JA lead of researcher said, " The ability of an aromatic disulfide to inhibit platelet aggregation can be enhanced by appending an electron-withdrawing group to the aromatic ring. The results presented establish that the aromatic thiosulfonate is a very effective inhibitor of platelet aggregation"

Beside the sulfur compound, Ajoene, (E,Z)-4,5,9-trithiadodeca-1,6,11-triene 9-oxide, isolated from alcoholic extracts of garlic reversibly inhibited platelet aggregation through platelet deposition on severely damaged vessel wall but not affected platelet adhesion.

In fact, in the comparison of the effect of the Garlic Pill with Plavix on Platelet Aggregation and Bleeding Time, groups treated with 1200 or 2400 mg garlic inhibited platelet aggregation substantially, through an increased time of bleeding.

The use of garlic supplement should be taken with care for patients who are taking Anticoagulant as garlic may increase the risk of bleeding. Also, patients with an ulcer should consult with their doctors.

Herbal Therapy: Cat's claw, The best Whole Herb Medicine for Prevention and Treatment of Inflammatory diseases

Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrients

Whole food(herbal medicine), linking health benefits in the prevention, management, and treatment of diseases has placed an important role in human history over many centuries. The finding of whole food medication by renowned scientists all over the world to replace the single ingredient of Western medicine with little or no side effect has been difficult due to no commercial benefit and pattern right to producers.

Inflammatory diseases is disorders and conditions caused by inflammation. Cat's claw may be a next generation of the medical plant for treatment of inflammation against various diseases. According to the study by the Case Western Reserve University, Uncaria tomentosa exhibited high levels of anti-inflammatory effects through the interference of the pro-inflammatory expression.

Mitraphylline (MTP), the major pentacyclic oxindole alkaloid presented in Uncaria tomentosa, elicited an anti-inflammatory response that modulates neutrophil activation contributing to the attenuation of inflammatory episodes.

Furthermore, the ingredient, Mitraphylline (MTP) also showed a direct effect in the immune system by reduced almost 40% of the production of interleukin 4 (IL-4) and inhibited around 50% of the release of interleukins.

Indenture Stomatitis, a chronic oral disease that affects denture wearers is caused by Candida Albicans in inducing inflammation. Topical application of a gel of 2% U. tomentosa three times a day for 1 week, cat' claw significantly reduced signs of the disease, after 1 week of treatment.

In fact, the anti-inflammatory properties may also result from their ability to inhibit TNF-alpha, a central regulator of inflammation, and to a lesser production of PGE2, a principal mediator of inflammation in diseases production.

The effects of cat's claw in inhibited inflammatory diseases may result from its binding to proinflammatory cytokines and pathways. Use of the medical plant should be only prescribed by herbal for safety purpose.

Diabetes is defined as a condition caused by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose. It is either caused by cells in pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol. In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.

The effectiveness of chickpea in reduced risk of type II diabetes, probably due to the existence of high amount of dietary fiber. According to the Case Western Reserve University, increased consumption of soluble and insoluble fiber is associated with improved glucose metabolism in both diabetic and nondiabetic individuals.

People who follow high-fiber, high-carbohydrate diets over time, can see the benefits in controlling body weight, insulin requirements, glycemic control, and serum lipids up to 10 years of follow-up.

In the review of 14 randomized clinical trials, Dr. Wolfram T and research team found that addition of insoluble or soluble fiber to meals, increased consumption of diets rich in whole grains and vegetables, and vegan diets improve glucose metabolism and increase insulin sensitivity. The greatest improvement in blood lipids, body weight, and hemoglobin A(1c) level occurred in participants following low-fat, plant-based diets.

In fact, " High-fiber diets, especially of the soluble variety, and soluble fiber supplements may offer some improvement in carbohydrate metabolism, lower total cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and have other beneficial effects in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM)", Dr. Vinik AI and Dr. Jenkins DJ said.

Furthermore, The American Diabetes Association recommends a goal of 40 g of soluble fiber intake per day for a patient with diabetes.

Taking all together, chickpea with a high amount of dietary fiber may be considered as a functional food in reduced symptoms and complications of patients with diabetes.

Breast cancer (malignant breast neoplasm) is a cancer that starts in the tissues of the breast either from the inner lining of milk ducts (Ductal carcinoma) or the lobules (Lobular carcinoma) that supply the ducts with milk. there is also rare cases that breast cancer starts in other areas of the breast. In 2010, over 250,000 new cases of breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. alone and the risk of getting invasive breast cancer during life time of a women is 1/8.

Fresh Garlic Extract beside inhibited colon and gastric cancer in 2 previous article, it also is found to arrest the growth and alter the morphology of MCF7 breast cancer cells.

Also in MCF7 human breast cancer cells, garlic constituent diallyl trisulfide have highly effective antitumor effects by the suppressesing viability of cultured MCF-7 and MCF-12a cells, through decreased the percent of cells in G(2)/M and induced apoptotic cell death.

According to the study by the 201 South University Street, diallyl trisulfide, inhibited the expression of MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 breast cancer cells, regardless to the state of estrogen in the tumors.

In a total of in 285 women (aged 25-65 years old) newly diagnosed with histopathologically confirmed breast cancer, dietary Allium Vegetables has a negative association between the consumption of raw onion and risk of breast cancer.

Dr. Roy N., the lead author at the Kerala Agricultural University, said, "Docking studies and ADMET evaluation revealed twelve compounds (isolated from garlic) to be active against the targets(breast caner cell lines). All the compounds displayed highly negative dock scores which indicated good interactions".

Therefore, the effectiveness of garlic in reduced risk and treatment of breast cancer is probably due to existence of many phytochemicals found in the herb. Women who increased intake of garlic everyday, may see the risk of breast cancer reduced substantially.

Herbal Therapy: Cinnamon, the number One Whole Herb Medicine in management of diabetes and its complications

Intake of cinnamon is found to improve fasting glucose, glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity in women with insulin resistance associated with the polycystic ovary syndrome.

Cinnamon is a spice derived from the inner bark of tree, native to South East Asia, of over 300 species of the genus Cinnamomum, belonging to the familyLauraceae, use in herbal and traditional medicine as anti-fungal and bacteria level, to improve reproductive organ, prevent flatulence and intestinal cramping, and to treat indigestion, diarrhea, bad breath, headache, migraine, etc.

Cinnamaldehyde, in the animal study found in the husk of Cicer arietinum L. Monosaccharide, exhibited antioxidant effects in reduced 29% of free radical expression and glucolipid levels through its action on multiple signaling pathways including cell cycle arrest and anti pro inflammatory property.

In vivo and in vitro, administered orally cinnamic acid and cinnamaldehyde lower acute blood glucose and improve glucose tolerance, through stimulating insulin secretion in isolated islets, according to the joint study led by the University of Karachi.

In a 16-week double-blind randomized control trial of 116 individuals with metabolic syndrome, dietary intervention groups with the administration of cinnamon [6 capsules (3 g) daily], significant improve all components of metabolic syndrome in a sample of Asian Indians in north India.

Dr. Gupta Jain S lead author of the researchers said,"Significantly greater decrease [difference between means, (95% CI)] in fasting blood glucose (mmol/L) [0.3 (0.2, 0.5) p = 0.001], glycosylated haemoglobin (mmol/mol) [2.6 (0.4, 4.9) p = 0.023], waist circumference (cm) [4.8 (1.9, 7.7) p = 0.002] and body mass index (kg/m2 ) [1.3 (0.9, 1.5) p = 0.001] was observed in the cinnamon group compared to placebo group".

Other researchers in the study of cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia) anti-diabetic property on obese patients also suggested, its effectiveness of increased the lipid storage capacity of white adipocytes and increased the fatty acid oxidation capacity may be due to activities of some other components of cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia) in the prevention of  obesity-induced type II diabetes

Although cinnamon (Cinnamomum sp) has shown to express good glycemic control to patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), intake of cinnamon supplement and whole herb should only be given by the qualified herbal doctor to achieve a greater health effect without side effects.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, cinnamon is a very hot herb, overdoses may induce toxicity.

The chemical constituents of Cat's claw include ajmalicine, akuammigine, campesterol, catechin, carboxyl alkyl esters, chlorogenic acid, cinchonain, corynantheine, corynoxeine, daucosterol, epicatechin, harman, hirsuteine, hirsutine, iso-pteropodine, etc.

Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells growing and multiplying disordered and uncontrollable way in our body, becoming progressively worse and damaged other healthy tissues, sometimes spreading to other organs in the body via lymph or blood and results may be in death.

The herbal whole herb medicine may be used for the treatment of various cancers. In a recent study, cat's claw chemotypes showed a directed influence on genotoxicity and cytotoxicity against nonmalignant and malignant human cell lines.

In T24 and RT4 human bladder cancer cell lines, bark samples extracted by dynamic maceration, alkaloids or isomerized derivative significant induced cytotoxic activity in dose-dependent
manner, leading to cells death in the tumor cell divisive process.

According to the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in joint study with other renowned institutions, Quinovic acid glycosides purified fraction (QAPF) of U.tomentosa found in Cat' claw decreased the growth and viability and protected against cell proliferation in both T24 and RT4 cell lines, through interfering with the inflammation, immunity, cell proliferation, differentiation pathway.

In a total of fifty-one volunteers recruited with the median age was 64 (range, 33-85) years, and 47% of patients were female, cat's claw improves quality of life and symptom of fatigue in patients with advanced cancer.

Dr. Dreifuss AA, the lead author at the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University said, that In vivo, UT hydroalcoholic extract demonstration of both antitumoral and antioxidant effects. The antineoplastic activity may be the result in regulated redox and metabolism homeostasis as well as anti-neoplastic effects.

Taking together, the whole herb Cat's claw may be used for the prevention and treatment of cancers, but the prescribed quality must be given by the herbal doctor to reduce the risk of overdoses.

12. Vitamin C
13. Vitamin E
14. Vitamin K
15. Iron
16. Magnesium
17. Phosphorus
18. Potassium
19. Zinc
20. Etc.

Chickpea with a high amount of fiber along with the relevant antioxidant capacities may be considered as a functional ingredient of antioxidant for reduced risk and symptoms of Cardiovascular diseases.

Besides cancer, heart disease kills more than 2,000 Americans every day. Approximately 60 million Americans have heart disease.

Most of the heart diseases are caused by high blood pressure contributes to hardening of the arteries. High levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) build up in the arteries as a result of uncontrolled diet with high levels of saturated fat and trans fat. All these add to the formation of atherosclerosis lesions and eventually arterial blockage or anything that serves to damage the inner lining of blood vessels and impedes the transportation of oxygen and nutrition to the heart can be defined as a risk of heart disease.

According to the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropic, chickpea with Chickpea with significant amounts of all the essential amino acids except sulphur-containing amino acids and important vitamins such as riboflavin, niacin, thiamin, folate and the vitamin A precursor β-carotene may have beneficial effects on some of the important human diseases such as Cardiovascular diseases.

Researchers also looked at the total polyphenol and flavonoids concentration and protein concentrations. Both ingredients showed to express antioxidant activity in induced postprandial glycemic excursions and reduced postprandial glycemic load which are the independent risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disorders (CVD),

Furthermore, in the study of independent risk of CVD, fiber intake found abundantly in chickpeas showed to associate to Cardiac vascular disease (CVD). In total, 157 patients included in this study, dietary fiber intake can retard the decrease in the Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate eGFR, reduce the levels of proinflammatory factors, indoxyl sulfate, and serum cholesterol; and is negatively associated with cardiovascular risk.

In fact, intake of the fiber of any sources has shown to reduce the risk of numbers of disease. According to the Biomedical Research Institute Sant Pau - Cardiovascular Research Center Barcelona, fiber is taken together with phytosterols, vitamins and minerals( found in chickpea), exert antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombotic effects contributing to the delay of CVD initiation and progression.

Taken altogether, patients with or without cardiovascular disease may want to include chickpea in their diet, accompanied with good sources of vegetables and fruits.
